Thursday Thirteen

Thirteen Food Triggers

Last week I wrote on my TT: "I watch my weight. I watch it go up. And then I'm really careful and I watch it go down. This is called yo-yoing, and all the ladies know this is not good, but we all do it."

We all have them. Certain flavors, snacks or habits that throw all our good intentions to the wind. I don't have a problem with candy or desserts or ice cream. Here are my triggers--obviously a few more than 13 which is why I grouped them. If I can avoid these, I don't even get hungry.

1. potato chips or corn chips
2. saltines or Ritz
3. Anything wrapped, inserted, folded or inside pastry--could be apple pie, chicken pot pie, or taco salad
4. cheddar cheese or American cheese or cream cheese especially on #2
5. pizza any type, but especially pepperoni with double cheese
6. peanut butter anything, especially with chocolate
7. French fries
8. sour cream or gravy
9. biscuits, rolls, bread
10. butter or margarine especially on #2 or #9
11. Lots of choices, buffet, snack trays
12. Reading food blogs, recipe magazines, watching Food channel
13. Snack food aisle in grocery store

Do you know your triggers?

Alas, I am 3/4 Scottish. I like to get my money's worth from everything I pay good money for. So my downfall is an all-you-can-eat buffet.

Facing serious health problems as a result of being way too much overweight, I have been forced to go on a real serious diet. And I'd like to add my findings to the EAT LESS, MOVE MORE technique.

I'm using a low carb diet. And to my complete amazement, I don't get hunger pangs on 800 calories per day. It's the carbs in your diet that trigger the hungry feeling.

My diet was planned by Virginia Doctor, a contributor to our weblog. He explained the whole thing in physiological terms, it made sense, and I have been on it for six weeks. So far I have lost 20 pounds, and have put away my size 24 denims and replaced them with size 18's. I will continue for about 40 more pounds.

Each day I have half a banana. My dream, when I reach my target weight, is to indulge myself with a whole banana every day!

I'm with you--the candy, desserts, and ice cream don't tempt me to overeat at all. It's salty & crunchy that's my downfall. Nuts, popcorn, chips with dip... I have to pretend I can't just MAKE dip, so I can ignore chips if I get them for the kids--without dip, I'll leave the chips alone.

it's the sweets that keep me going to the gym. :)

Great list. I find that my triggers actually make me hungry when I eat them. funny huh?
I am a sucker for sweet and salt together.

I can inhale a bread & butter basket.
And I run a mock at buffets.

That about sounds it up for me too, although chocolate and cookies are what do me in. Being a stay at home mom, i do find it hard to stay away from all these foods..why i need to lose 10 pounds. Great list, thanks for sharing...now how do you stay away from all these things, without going crazy? Thanks for stopping by my place.Happy Thursday.

For me, sometimes chips or sweet bread rolls. Other things I like I can't get here, so I do without.

I'm up too.

My triggers are similar to yours. I too love those salty, savory foods. Chicken pot pie, love it. Any thing with a pastry. Why does it have to be so hard? Oh my.

Love the banner we both are using this week! And I am like you: sweets are not a temptation for me so I can totally relate to your list. Fresh baked bread...is to me like chips for other people. And I have a lovely bakery where they bake a wonderful walnut bread, mmmhhh! cheddar cheese and crackers is another trigger too..
Now I am hungry! happy TT!

Wow, I'm really hungry now. LOL All of those things you listed are the things that get me too! My oh why can't carrots and celery taste like potato chips?

We have a lot of the same triggers. I also notice I tend to eat a lot when I am cooking (which is rare). But I snarf down about 50% of my food while cooking. Especially French Fries!

I think reading your list was my food trigger! :-)

I have a problem with 'late night crunchies'. I want salty/crunchy stuff at the worse possible time to eat it...especially nachos with lots of cheese.

I try to keep apples, pickles, carrots, celery, etc. on hand to keep it a little healthier.

Have a great weekend!!!

I have a problem with anything cheesey: blue cheese dressing/dips, nachos, burgers, etc. I've never really been triggered by sugary stuff, though.

They are really triggers for migraine, weight gain but they are teasers too coz we can't really eliminate it from our list. They are just too tempting to avoid.
Mine's up too.
