John Wesley's advice on voting

Wesley had three points to keep in mind, which he recorded in his journal from October 6, 1774. He wrote:

“I met those of our society who had votes in the ensuing election, and advised them,
1. To vote, without fee or reward, for the person they judged most worthy:
2. To speak no evil of the person they voted against: And,
3. To take care their spirits were not sharpened against those that voted on the other side."

Thomas Sowell on Ferguson’s victims

"The first victims of the mob rampages in Ferguson have been people who had nothing to do with Michael Brown or the police. These include people — many of them black or members of other minorities — who have seen the businesses they worked to build destroyed, perhaps never to be revived.

But these are only the first victims. If the history of other communities ravaged by riots in years past is any indication, there are blacks yet unborn who will be paying the price of these riots for years to come.

Sometimes it is a particular neighborhood that never recovers, and sometimes it is a whole city. Detroit is a classic example. It had the worst riot of the 1960s, with 43 deaths — 33 of them black people. Businesses left Detroit, taking with them jobs and taxes that were very much needed to keep the city viable. Middle class people — both black and white — also fled." Thomas Sowell

Not me

How do you read books?
#reading

Not me. I read books like the dieter sneaking snack food. I even cheat by reading the ending or sometimes just the footnotes. I like them free or cheap at the resale shop, and I won't read them if underlined. I keep some for pets and adornments. I hang on to some because my mother's name is inside. I keep a book in my lap just in case the TV show is boring, and a few in the car in case the trip is endless. A house without books might as well be haunted.

Wise words

Except.  Be cautious, Conservatives.  Obama knows exactly what he is doing.  He isn’t really trying to build up the weak by pulling down the strong—he’s trying to pull down everybody.

Where's the teleprompter when you need him?

James Taranto's Great Orators of the Democratic Party
    • "One man with courage makes a majority."--attributed to Andrew Jackson

    • "The only thing we have to fear is fear itself."--Franklin D. Roosevelt

    • "The buck stops here."--Harry S. Truman

    • "Ask not what your country can do for you; ask what you can do for your country."--John F. Kennedy

    • "So for everybody in Washington who's busy scrambling, trying to figure out how to blame somebody else, just go ahead and talk to me, because it's my job to make sure that we fix these messes, even if I don't make them."--Barack Obama

Are these quotes by Hillary real?

This e-mail is going around. Giving dates isn't exactly references. She sort of said them, but the lines are usually out of context. Like the first one--she said to rich Democrats at a fund raiser. Check all the quotes at Urban Legends.

Always check out the forwarded e-mails you get--most aren't worth passing along, whether on health, immigration, religion or politics. At least google it to find out the origin. The real Hillary is probably much scarier.
