When the government separates children from parents

As you all know, our state and local governments separate children from their parents--usually an agency called child services something, and like what's happening at the border it is for their own safety and well-being. Sometimes the parent is going to prison, sometimes the home life is chaotic, sometimes the parent is mentally ill, or abusive, or homeless or has died.

If possible, the agency representing the state works to reunite the family, just as is going on at the border, sometimes they place them with relatives, as immigration services is doing, sometimes the hearings are extended or postponed, as is happening to the illegal immigrants who then just disappear.

It's a long, tedious process. Occasionally our American children are "surrendered," and an adoptive family is found, or they go to foster care until they "age out." It's always disruptive and painful for the children. If you care about the children our government is protecting at the border, toss in some care for America's children who go through this every day. . . maybe visiting dad in prison, maybe at granny's part of the time, and aunty's home part of the time. Frequent school changes, lost records, and missing friends while going from foster home to foster home.

Although the agencies are state and local, much of the funding for our U.S. children comes from your federal government which has an elaborate reporting system, and even then it sometimes fails the children (which is the sad story you read in the papers). The Adoption and Foster Care Analysis and Reporting System (AFCARS) collects case-level information from state and tribal title IV-E agencies on all children in foster care and those who have been adopted with title IV-E agency involvement. These child statistics include race, ethnicity, age, demographics, court dates, adoption and foster records, medical including immunization (which the foreign children don't have, btw), parents' problems, income, etc. quite detailed and the information collection and research has been going on for decades.

The border children have none of these records, and information is collected on the fly. The federal agencies have to be sensitive to child trafficking, and there's no quick way to find out who these children belong to. During the last administration an unknown number of children were placed with traffickers. I looked at the Ohio AFCARS page which had 18 different elements, and found it overwhelming. The section for tribal groups has 24 different elements.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/national/obama-administration-placed-children-with-human-traffickers-report-says/2016/01/28/39465050-c542-11e5-9693-933a4d31bcc8_story.html?

The Obama administration failed to protect thousands of Central American children who have flooded across the U.S. border since 2011, leaving them vulnerable to traffickers and to abuses at the hands of government-approved caretakers, a Senate investigation has found.  (Washington Post, Jan 28, 2016)

Hymns of praise

We attend the traditional service at our Lutheran church (NALC) in Upper Arlington, Ohio.  There are two other types of services—one I call “happy clappy” which I’m guessing is mostly post-1960s songs and praise music without liturgy and the other “clangy bangy” with very loud guitars and drums, and we have two locations for one congregation. Right now we have a total of five services, but I can remember a time when we had 10, trying to suit all the tastes in worship style and preaching. Our traditional service at Lytham Road has a choir and the other two have praise bands with perhaps a quartet to lead the music.  The pastors rotate, so we all eventually hear the same sermons by the same pastors. Right now we’re in a study called “Gathered,” which is about worship.  Last week was on music (song) with sermon by senior pastor Steve Turnbull and yesterday was the sacraments by Aaron Thompson who is director of the high school ministry.  Lutherans have two sacraments—baptism and communion, but for 1500 years the Christian church had six sacraments, but Martin Luther cut them to two, and today many Protestant and Bible and non-denominational churches have no sacraments, only memorials.

So this all leads to the opening hymn of praise, “Praise the Lord! O Heavens. I always read the information about the hymn writers at the bottom of the page (I don’t like to read words on a screen, because I like to see the music so I can practice my dwindling ability to read music.) This one said, Text: The Foundling Hospital Collection, London, 1796.  One of the beautiful things I appreciate about the Internet is I don’t have to wait long to satisfy my curiosity. An antiquarian book dealer, Simon Beattie of London had one for sale and was discussing its history. You can go to his website for further explanation of the institution and its collection, and also http://www.intriguing-history.com/foundling-hospital-collection/  The hospital has a fascinating history which includes Dickens and Handel. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Foundling_Hospital

The Foundling Hospital, Britain’s first children’s charity, had been established by Thomas Coram in 1739.  ‘The Hospital chapel, in use by 1749 and officially opened in 1753, soon became well known for its music as well as for its elegant architecture and adornments …  The singing of the children at ordinary Sunday services was a great attraction to fashionable London and became an important source of income to the Hospital through pew rents and voluntary contributions.  Music was specially composed and arranged for the Hospital chapel, and the success of the singing led to a demand for this music, which was met by the publication of a book called Psalms, Hymns and Anthems; for the Use of the Chapel of the Hospital for the Maintenance and Education of Exposed and Deserted Young Children.  It is generally known more informally as the Foundling Hospital Collection’ (Nicholas Temperley, ‘The Hymn Books of the Foundling and Magdalen Hospital Chapels’, Music Publishing & Collecting: Essays in Honor of Donald W. Krummel (1994), p. 6).  [from Beattie’s blog)

This hymn is in the 1978 Lutheran Book of Worship and the Lutheran Service Book and Hymnal of 1958, which notes the text is by John Bacchus Dykes, 1823-76, which wouldn’t work with the copyright of 1796.

Let us all kneel and thank God

This Republican PAC is funded by Democrat

Don’t let the name fool you.  “Republican Women for Progress” was founded all the way back in 2017, has literally never given any financial support to any Republican candidate, and their largest donor is a Silicon Valley billionaire Reid Hoffman who (1) was a major Democratic contributor long before Trump came on the scene and (2) is a man. If this is just the sort of "grass roots"  it's not clear Republicans should be too worried. It’s like thinking Nuns on a Bus are Catholic nuns.

Voter ID

Yesterday I paid $4 for a spring coat at the Volunteers of America. Apple Green with a nice hood that folds inside the collar for those brisk lake breezes and I will keep it up at our lake house. I paid cash. The woman in front of me bought several nice winter coats for children. Her bill was $14 and she used a credit card. For that small purchase at a non-profit she had to show an ID. In fact, you almost can’t function in the USA if you don’t have ID to get in a government building or to make a purchase which shows you are alive and living somewhere with an address or a citizen. But Democrats rage. Why is that? Why do they want dead Chicagoans and live Hondurans cancelling out black votes?  This is a rhetorical question, of course.

Relax liberals

Although I'm not sure this will assure my Democrat friends and relatives, Brett Kavanaugh will probably not bring any change to the leftward list of the last 60+ years of SCOTUS decisions. Beginning with Earl Warren (when I was in high school and during the 40 years  I  was a Democrat) we've had an activist court. Americans have become very comfortable with being told what to do by the highest court. Democrats are never disappointed with their presidents' SCOTUS picks; Republicans always are with whom their presidents chose.

Joseph Mussomeli at the Imaginative Conservative outlines the picks and pans. Eisenhower gave us Warren and Brennan; Nixon gave us Blackmun and Powell (Roe v. Wage and California v. Bakke); Ford's appointee John Paul Stevens helped strike down "a moment of silence;" Reagan's Sandra Day O'Connor often disappointed conservatives; GHW Bush's David Souter also sided with liberals; GW Bush's John Roberts supported Obamacare.

So relax liberals, Democrats, Progressives and Communists. Call back your witches, the Antifa, the Pink hatted haters. Stop the caravans invading. The court always leans left, even if it's not as fast as you desire.

NPR and The Donald

I was listening to NPR while putting away groceries. Did you know there is a woman in St. Petersburg posting discord and disrespect on Twitter who's a threat to our election integrity? I thought about it, and I'll stick with Maxine Waters, Nancy Pelosi and Rosie O'Donnell as bigger problems sowing hate and misinformation in our midterm elections. When that interview was over, the announcer went on to lament that President Trump called a prostitute "horse face," but had a soft spot of dictators. And all this with my tax money

Things change quickly in la-la land

Donald Trump, the man the Democrats/Progressives/Left and their buddies in late night TV accused of being mentally ill and incompetent, a stupid boob, a racist, sexist and homophobe, is now supposed to straighten out generations of Saudi regime behavior which includes hard line sharia justice, (chopping off hands, stoning women, beheading homosexuals). Until recently the Leftists were OK with sharia and if any of us were concerned WE were Islamophobes. Now that their victim is a journalist, well, it's shock and awe at the 7th century system of justice.

One of the President's simple phrases is "they are good people." He's quite predictable and doesn’t use big words. It's like Obama's stammer when he's searching for the next word. He said it about Mexicans coming illegally over the border, meaning not all were criminals, and the Left chose to NOT hear it, and instead heard "rapists." He said it in Charlottesville when angry groups were attacking each other, and others were just standing around and the Left heard only "I admire Nazis."

No matter what President Trump says, the leftist media and politicians translate it for the worst. He never said all Mexicans are criminals and rapists--he's not a racist. He never said the white supremacists were good and he agreed with them. That's just our "free press" media slinging it again, telling us what to think.

Democrat Professor acting badly

Another example of a crazy academic Democrat--James Thomas, an assistant professor of sociology at Univ. of Mississippi—“stick your fingers in their salads.” What unhinges these guys? I hope this stops his tenure and promotion plans.

I checked his staff bio page. Thomas’ "dissertation research focused on the role of stand-up comedy venues in the production of contentious politics. I conducted ethnographic fieldwork at three different sites where stand-up comedy took place: a professional comedy club, a self-described punk/rock/horror/sci-fi bar that hosted a weekly amateur comedy show, and a popular drag revue at an LGBT nightclub."

And you all thought PhDs had no fun! Imagine spending 5 years in comedy clubs and claiming you were working! And then when you finally get to "adult" you incite people to attack others in restaurants who disagree with you.

A caravan of illegal immigrants heading for our border

I supposed it would be paranoid to suggest the Democrats are behind pushing throngs of healthy, well dressed illegal immigrants to our border so there can be a confrontation complete with crying children on the news right before an election. If they were refugees, they'd just step over the border into Mexico. If they are political pawns and tools, they have to get to our border.

Why don't the central Americans who say they are escaping poverty and violence just go to Mexico? It's much closer, it's a very wealthy country, and they speak the same language. Some of the requirements for citizenship are steeper, but for being guest workers, that won't matter.

More threats on the life of the president and his administration by Democrats

Democratic senator Kamala Harris joked about killing President Trump and members of his administration in a Thursday appearance on The Ellen Degeneres Show. (2017 story)  Should she get the rodeo clown treatment from CNN--you remember, all he did was wear an Obama mask. Didn't even threaten to kill him. Wasn't running for president. Wasn't begging for more screen time on TV to boost his career.

https://www.dailywire.com/news/17021/cnn-got-rodeo-clown-fired-cnn-still-employs-kathy-john-nolte

Rep. William Lacy Clay (D-MO) expressed his amazement that “in 2013 such hatred, intolerance and disrespect towards the President of the United States could take place at the Missouri State Fair… Our fair is supposed to showcase the best of Missouri, instead, it showed an ugly face of intolerance and ignorance to the world.” Rep. Steve Webb (D-MO) added, “Sometimes apologies just won’t do. While I do not believe this represents all of rural Missouri, the racial undertones of a taunted rodeo clown dressed as our nation’s first black president is what the nation woke up to this morning. It’s time for all of us, from both rural and urban areas, to fight this type of sentiment with a united front. Leaders of this state need to do more than accept a pressured apology.”

Someone please contact Clay and Webb and ask what they think about the attacks on Trump and members of his administration the last 2 years of “resistance.”

Elizabeth Warren’s heritage

Image may contain: text

I noticed one cable news channel was calling the President's tweets about her phony claim, "racist." What about her depiction of her own paternal grandparents as racists, giving them as the reason her parents eloped (supposedly because her mother was part Cherokee). Another "throw granny under the bus" Democrat story. Everyone has family stories and histories, passed down. We just don't get to check the box for special treatment intended for someone else.

The recipes Elizabeth Warren contributed to “Pow Wow Chow” were for Crab with Tomato Mayonnaise Dressing and Cold Omelets with Crab Meat and appear to be word for word copies of a French chef's design.  Didn’t another Democrat fake a recipe story?

Warren didn't claim native American heritage until about age 30 when she got a diversity appointment at Harvard. I don't even call it cultural appropriation--just gaming the system since universities and the federal government were playing that game to look good. ". . .for at least six straight years during Warren’s tenure, Harvard University reported in federally mandated diversity statistics that it had a Native American woman in its senior ranks at the law school. According to both Harvard officials and federal guidelines, those statistics are almost always based on the way employees describe themselves." (Boston Globe, 2012)

Who determines that healthcare is too high?

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the average American family earned $74,664 (before taxes) and spent $57,311 across various expense categories in 2016.  [not sure what is “family”—probably means household—doesn’t give number of people]

1. Taxes 2. housing 3. transportation 4. food 5. pensions and insurance 6. Entertainment and contributions 7.  health care

Taxes are the biggest chunk. $18,900 each year, and then housing, $18,886. “Following housing costs, transportation ($9,049), food ($7,203), and pensions and personal insurance ($6,831) topped the list for the biggest ticketed items on most Americans' budgets. For the majority of people who prefer not to cook, the cost of dining out could add up big. The occasional luxury experience may not seem like a big drain on the average budget, but entertainment, cash contributions, and apparel and services accounted for nearly $7,000 (over 10 percent) of most Americans' annual expenses.”  Health care was $4,612. That said, health care increased almost 67% between 2006 and 2016, 8 years of which Obama was taking over our health insurance choices.

Crockpot Chicken, Pat Miller’s recipe

Mix together

1/2 cup mayonnaise

1/3 cup Panko bread crumbs

1/3 cup Parmesan cheese

1 Tablespoon Italian seasoning

Spread the mix over the chicken (I used 6 boneless thighs, but could be more—that’s what I had on hand)

Cook on low 5-6 hours in the crockpot.

We’re having this tonight with tossed salad and baked butternut squash.

Your story

No automatic alt text available.

Years ago I started reading “Prayer,” by Ole Hallesby a Norwegian Lutheran, after a friend told me it was a “classic.”  Couldn’t make it through the first chapter when I was younger.  I’m reading it now in my morning devotions, and every word jumps off the page. He had a doctorate, and was a professor of theology, but wrote devotional titles for the ordinary Christian.  This was first published in 1931. I probably gave my copy away years ago, and am now reading the church’s library copy. This edition has a study guide with questions.

Hugh Hewitt outlines the first 2 Trump years

I’m exhausted watching President Trump.  How does he do it?  He has accomplished so much and kept so many promises, yet runs all over the country campaigning for local and state candidates. Are there three of him? The latest release of a hostage held by 2 years brings that number to over 15.  Yet the media are upset if he doesn’t have an answer for Khashhoggi’s disappearance in Turkey within 48 hours.  Hugh Hewitt writes:

“As President Trump’s first two years in office come to a close, we’ve seen

Add to that:

  • the repeal of the sequester on defense spending and
  • a massive military rebuild underway;
  • a massive tax cut of unprecedented depth and structural change;
  • a renegotiated trade deal between the United States, Mexico and Canada;
  • withdrawals from the awful Iran deal and, in effect,
  • the absurdist Paris accord;
  • the rollback of job-killing and bureaucrat-empowering regulations by the hundreds;
  • an economy surging while unemployment drops to 3.7 percent ;
  • and a new entente in the Middle East (one that arose despite
  •  U.S. recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel) that
  • sees the United States and Israel aligned and cooperating closely with Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Bahrain and now
  • a new government in Iraq against the expansionist Iranian theocrats.

Tracy, guest blogger, visits DC during the Kavanaugh hearings!

So my husband and I went to Washington DC for our 20th anniversary . We had the trip planned a month and a half in advance, but it happened to end up being last week and weekend when all the Kavanaugh protests were happening . We got to be in the gallery on the senate floor when Mitch McConnell and crying Chuck Schumer addressed the subject of moving forward with the vote.  It was so neat to actually be in there . Anyways , we went to all the protests - we were very respectful, minus the fact that our presence itself was offensive because we wore our Trump gear and I had on a “Confirm Kavanaugh” shirt .

Despite the fact that we were just quietly observing these protests, we were verbally attacked multiple times . I was called a gender traitor more times than I can even count . One woman told us ( after observing our trump gear ) to go back to Alabama , Mississippi , or wherever the “F%*^” we were from. ( We are from GA ) . Perhaps she should take a look at the electoral map and see all the red. . .  why would she assume we were from Alabama or Mississippi ? We were yelled at to get the F out of there , that we weren’t welcome .

One woman walked right up to us with her daughter who appeared to be about 15 or 16 years old . First she told us that President Trump is only making America great if you’re white and she went on to talk about our white privilege ( she was also white) . She then went on to ask if we had daughters . My husband told her yes , that we have two daughters about her daughter’s age . She then proceeded to tell us that she hopes that our daughters get raped and get pregnant and get denied an abortion .

I could go on and on with stories about our DC trip. So many people would walk by us , see our shirts or hats and give us a discreet thumbs up but keep walking as to not associate with us in fear of being attacked.  On the other hand, some would stop and talk and hang out with us and we met some awesome people whom I hope to stay in touch with . One guy came up to us and started up a conversation with us and asked if he could hang with us . I told him of course ! He then pulled his MAGA hat out of his backpack and put it on because he felt safe to do so since he had others with him.

It was truly an eye opening experience. You see it on TV and it’s nuts . . .  but seeing it in person is a lot different . We actually witnessed the famous protestors banging and trying to claw open the Supreme Court doors . It was pure craziness .

The DC and Capitol police are amazing and on top of it.   Super kind and helpful, but when it came down to business - they weren’t playing . Even in the angry mob - I felt safe for the most part with the exception of a couple of times where I felt nervous . They also had undercover cops everywhere .

Cupp on Kanye

S.E. Cupp, a token conservative on CNN, said this  about Kanye West and Donald Trump’s meeting, “I think you had there a man who’s clearly not okay and a president who’s willing to exploit that. And worse, to exploit that under the auspicious of race relations and black communities, joblessness, mental health, all the things that ended up in this bucket of issues that were sort of addressed in this free for all.”

S.E. Cupp can ramble on a bit herself—used to work for Glenn Beck and I watched her every evening.  West talked without interruption or coaching from Trump about fatherless homes--including his own when growing up. He talked about how welfare has debilitated men. He talked about off shore manufacturing hurting blacks. He talked about education--what's good and what isn't. He talked about being diagnosed with a mental illness (a misdiagnosis--it was sleep deprivation) even with an IQ in the top 2%. At one point, he corrected himself when he said something negative--said he wants to only be positive.

Have you ever heard Barack Obama speak off the cuff with no teleprompter?  About 50 “uhs” and stammers.  West was actually more articulate than Obama, and since Obama was raised by upper middle class white grandparents, Kanye possibly knows more about being a black man than Obama does.

For this he's ridiculed on CNN, Facebook and Twitter.  It’s just not proper for a black man to work and live outside the Democrat bubble.

No wonder you didn’t get a thank you note for that gift

Kavanaugh syndrome

Women who went to college, wrote the Harvard gynecologist Edward H. Clarke in 1873, risked “neuralgia, uterine disease, hysteria, and other derangements of the nervous system,” such as infertility.

Conestoga trip, October 10

We had a great trip to Fort Ancient Earthworks and Nature Preserve to see the 2,000 year old, human-built earthen walls in the Little Miami River Valley with our Conestoga group (Ohio history). It is believed to be a sacred and ceremonial site, and was never a Fort, but got that name before people knew what it was. http://fortancient.org/

Then we went to Lebanon, OH to the famous Golden Lamb restaurant, had a wonderful meal, and visited the Harmon Museum and Art Gallery. https://www.harmonmuseumohio.org/

I haven’t downloaded photos yet, but I have a bunch!

People are not one dimensional

So there can't be "good people on both sides?" My views on abortion are no secret, it's taking the life of the weakest and most vulnerable, yet I have friends and relatives I've known all my life who donate to Planned Parenthood AND volunteer at food pantries for the vulnerable. I watched on TV the paid harridans and harpies storming the doors of the Supreme Court over Kavanaugh's swearing in, but many Democrat women stood silently watching and grieving, not making themselves into idiots or destroying property. They'll go home, work on local campaigns and be patriotic Americans. God hears prayers from both/three/four sides. Only He knows the heart and he will judge. There are good people on all sides. Use facts, not hate. Respect our Bill of Rights.

Need cinnamon

I used the last of my cinnamon making an apple pie.  I’m within walking distance of a Penzey store, but I won’t shop there.  Bill Penzey doesn’t want anyone in his store who voted for Trump.

"Well. I’m a conservative who did not vote for Trump, but I don’t want any part of Bill Penzey’s sanctimony and condescension. I’m not a big one for boycotts, and it doesn’t bother me one bit if a merchant holds political opinions opposed to my own, and advocates for his or her candidate or issue. That’s what America is about. But I’m not about to spend a solitary sou, farthing, or pfennig in the store of a merchant who has such open contempt for people like me. No, I didn’t vote for Trump, but as far as I’m concerned, I would like for Bill Penzey to assume that I did. I know lots of good men and women who voted for Trump, and the idea that Bill Penzey despises them puts me off of his business for good."

No Columbus Day celebration in Columbus, Ohio

Many who want to demean Christopher Columbus for pursuing his mission of finding a shorter route to Asia and spreading the Gospel of Jesus see themselves as more enlightened and morally superior as they donate to or demonstrate for Planned Parenthood which ended the lives of over 321,300 Americans just last year using our tax dollars.  https://californiafamily.org/2018/planned-parenthood-killed-321384-babies-last-year-bringing-total-killed-to-over-7-6-million/

Columbus was never in North America, went to prison and died unsuccessful in his mission. Unfortunately, Planned Parenthood continues on with the blessings and help of the Democrat party, many Republicans, the churches, the entertainment world, academe and media.

Most of the amazing and advanced cultures in central and South America had collapsed before any contact with Europeans, some hundreds of years before. Maybe they just ran out of children to kill?

"While incidents of human sacrifice among the Aztec, Maya, and Inca have been recorded in colonial-era Spanish chronicles and documented in modern scientific excavations, the discovery of a large-scale child sacrifice event in the little-known pre-Columbian Chimú civilization is unprecedented in the Americas—if not in the entire world." https://news.nationalgeographic.com/2018/04/mass-child-human-animal-sacrifice-peru-chimu-science/

Heidi Walked Away after 2 terms of Obama and voting for Hillary

“I grew up in a blue-collar family we didn't have much but we did have my dad who busted his butt. Growing up I always heard how the Democratic party was for the working class people for the people who didn't have much, and the Republican party was for the upper-class rich folks. Always voted Democrat because they are the people who work for us! As I grew up and became old enough to vote, I was always reminded, Vote Democrat! Don't know the candidate doesn't matter if they have a D beside their name vote for them, They understand and fight for working class people!

When Obama came up for office I thought our hopes and dreams as Americans had been answered, I felt so passionately about it, I worked for both of his grassroots movements. I made so many phone calls and knocked on doors I was so full of passion that he was going to change the world! Joe Biden even came to our campaign headquarters and I got to shake his hand, I thought How amazing is this! These 2 men will save this country!

As time went by I started to watch how our country became more and more divided, but in my mind, it was those EVIL Republicans doing it, because the Democrats work for us right? I was so confused I honestly felt lost because it wasn't making sense to me. Then when it came time to vote for the Democratic nominee, I voted Hillary and as a woman, I felt I had to vote for the woman it was my duty as a woman and as a Democrat and we had to beat Evil Trump! He was everything I hated, right? But I watched the news and I watched how my party was being overtaken by these hateful spiteful people who where trying to take the rights of free speech away who where beating people for speaking against them, who set fires and riots on campuses, because they didn't like the speakers, and how horrible my divided my country became and why, and just like that the veil was lifted from my eyes.  I saw things for what they really where and who truly was doing these things, and the evil Trump wasn't as evil as the news and people said he was. He actually was fighting for the same things I wanted to change! Talk about a slap in the face, It was like everything I knew all my life was a lie everything I was taught wasn't true.  I felt like I had just run into a wall because where do I belong now?  Who speaks for me and my family?

My boyfriend showed me a video of these college kids having an Anti-Trump Rally, and it was so full of hate and how they treated others who disagreed with them, and I said enough is enough and that's the day I walked away from the Democratic Party and changed my vote to Republican.  I still find myself sometimes feeling lost because I disagree with something the Republicans stand for that I don't. Then all I have to do is turn on the T.V. and be reminded that even though I might disagree with some things, I sure as heck don't agree with the Democrats.

I have lost family, I have lost friends because I support Trump, I have been called every name in the book and been told how much of a disgrace I am because I support him. Which just all goes back to why I walked away. Democrats aren't about helping one another and lifting others up when you have a difference of opinion, they are about conforming to their mindset and if you don't, then you're an evil hateful racist. As for me and my family, we will fly our American Flag every day, we will show Pride in our country and support our men and woman in uniform, and in 2020 we WILL be a household that Votes for TRUMP! “

Praising God for a great Sunday

What a great Sunday. Church at Upper Arlington Lutheran (Lytham Rd.) with liturgy, wonderful hymns (O worship the king, Rise up, O Saints of God, Beautiful Savior), challenging sermon by Joe Valentino, the Lord's table with anointing, and the choir singing, "Oh, how I love Jesus "(arr. Lloyd Larson). Then it's lunch and study with our church fellowship group, and a cello quartet recital later in the afternoon at Highlands Presbyterian church.

Guest Blogger Jeffrey outlines flaws in Ford’s story

A quick summary of Ford's credibility:

She refused to hand over the results of her polygraph.

She refused to hand over her 2012 Therapist’s notes.

She said she was afraid to fly, but has flown dozens of times.

Since she did in fact fly, she offered no other reason for the politically beneficial delay she insisted on.

She said she wanted anonymity but contacted WaPo multiple times.

Said she got advice from “beach friends” but didn't mention that the primary one was a former FBI lawyer, Monica McLean, who worked for Preet Bharara, a man Trump fired.

She also failed to mention, when talking of her Beach friends at the hearing, that Monica was sitting right behind her.

She had a perfect memory of 1982 but couldn't remember basic things from the previous 10 weeks.

She'd been drinking.

She changed the year of the alleged attack.

She named 4 people, but had no backers.

She couldn't remember how she got home even though her story had her escaping a house far from home, pre-cell phone.

No friend ever said "Hey you disappeared, where did you go? How'd you get home?" No one got an unexpected call from a payphone to pick her up.

She gave no location or any details that could be researched for verification.

She never told anyone of the incident nor claimed PTSD prior to Kavanaugh's name circulating 30 years later.

She said that she put the 2nd door on her house because of PTSD, but evidence shows it was to get around zoning laws to create a rentable apartment.

She said she didn't know that Grassley offered to come to her, even though it was broadcast nationally.

She feigned no knowledge of polygraphs even though her ex’s sworn statement said she'd coached Monica McLean how to beat it in the 1990s, and in any case her profession should have at least well acquainted her with it.

She claimed it was a repressed memory, something that is rare, disputed by experts, doesn't fit this profile, and is often conflated with the far more common false memory.

She co-authored a paper on repressed memory creation years before she claimed to have one.

Nothing is known of her pharmacology, but given her past alcoholism, her visits to a therapist and her general presentation, odds are high that it's extensive.

She scrubbed her social media, preventing checks on her credibility and biases.

We know from a pussy hat photo that she was rabidly anti-trump. The hat puts her in a 1-2% subgroup of extremists.

Extremists in general are not known for honesty or clarity of thought, but rather paranoia, which can lead to delusions and false conclusions. This subculture in particular is known for being "easily offended" which is often in fact, falsely offended.

She had zero family or friends with her, not from the 80s nor from today. She was surrounded only by Democrat Party Handlers.

Constant cries of bravery and “nothing to gain” vs a $700,000 GoFundMe and a career boosted a la Anita Hill. An instant hero within her chosen subculture.

Literally, all there is her word vs all of the above. Not a shred of evidence.

Second wave feminism and assault

Forty-five years ago I'd occasionally attend a "consciousness raising" group during the blossoming of second wave feminism. I wrote book reviews for a female publication put out by some OSU librarian-feminists. Women studies departments were being developed to capitalize on the interest. It was the era of “women’s lib.”  I don't recall the homes exactly, but they were in the OSU campus area. And were at night!  Sitting on the floor with our arms wrapped around legs seemed to be required, even if there was a free chair in the room. I may have attended with a woman in my neighborhood who was unhappy in her marriage to a professor, and later abandoned husband and children to go east and find herself. At least I can’t imagine I was so foolish to go into that area at night alone.  I think her name was Laura.

Even with a Russian major and all those Soviet history and literature courses I had, I didn't connect the dots between feminism and Marxism until much later when the movement leaders began dividing up women by black/white, gay/straight, young/old. At these meetings women would talk about their sadness at dashed dreams, boredom with being a stay at home mom, disappointment with career choices, anger with parents, boyfriends or husbands for not understanding. Heady stuff.

Not once did I ever hear a woman say she'd been assaulted, raped, or even abused. That’s not to say it wasn’t happening, just that no one said anything if it was.

Speculate this

The left assumes there are leakers running the show, but what if the FBI had already run that 7th investigation, already checked out the details of Ford's fake rape story (2 drunk teens rolling around on a bed with their clothes on), already had interviewed all Kavanaugh's friends (and enemies), already read the yearbooks, already had searched the archives of the various Maryland police departments, already interviewed her friends, her sex counselor, her ex-boyfriends, etc. What if the FBI already had been busy combing through the raveling threads of her fantasy before Flakey Jeff suggested a week's postponement? Just because it wasn't leaked to the NYT by someone inside the swamp, doesn't mean it didn't happen. So a shocked and subdued Di-Fi wants it sealed.

Latino physician crisis?

“California Latino physician crisis has found it will take upwards of five centuries to fully address the shortage of Latino doctors, imperiling the health and well-being of all Californians .”

I get some odd “diversity” “multicultural” “victim” “underserved”  and “racist” material dumped in my e-mail.  But did you know not having enough Latino doctors is going to kill Californians? Apparently, the current influx of illegal immigrants don’t plan to learn English so California needs more Spanish speaking doctors. How are more Spanish speaking doctors going to serve those Californians who speak Chinese, Tagalog and Vietnamese, Persian, Portuguese and Punjabi, and hundreds more who feel most at home with Swahili, Yiddish and Navajo? There are 112 languages in the Bay Area schools alone.

If Californians’ health is being imperiled it is their state government that is doing it—high taxation, over regulation and climate hysteria laws will probably drive doctors and potential doctors out of the state.

We don’t need to have a specific percentage of Latino librarians, Latino auto mechanics, Latino lawyers, or Latino dog groomers to have an informed, safe, functioning society.  But the open borders and sanctuary cities are funneling criminals into Hispanic communities where it is easier for them to hide.  Planned Parenthood is killing a disproportionate number of minorities.  Some of the dead and dying will be Hispanic/Latino babies. In the U.S. combined, blacks and Hispanics accounted for 55.4% of the 405,795 abortions reported by race and ethnicity (2012).

Democrats and the Ford accusations

Democrats Kavanaugh

How Democrats have worked the system with their handmaiden media.

  • 1. Before the hearings within minutes of the nomination, call Kavanaugh unqualified on camera. Fail.
  • 2. During the hearings, claim to know how he'll vote on unspecified cases not yet before the court on camera. Fail.
  • 3. Leak rumors to the press. Fail.
  • 4. Discuss sex abuse uncorroborated charges from 36 years ago claiming it's not really a trial, therefore OK to assume guilt on camera. Fail.
  • 5. Redefine groping to mean rape with help of #MeToo movement and social media. Fail.
  • 6. Find other accusers dug up by TV porn lawyer. Fail.
  • 7. Use scribbles in a high school year book as evidence of guilt for uncorroborated sex abuse charges. Fail.
  • 8. Demand that Kavanaugh not defend his reputation, record and family and ridicule his lack of masculinity which was the basis for 1-7. Fail.
  • 9. Demand a seventh FBI investigation to delay the confirmation. Fail.
  • 10. Claim the FBI investigation is flawed even before reading it. Call in the harradins, harpies and misanthropes to ratchet up the resistance. Roll cameras

Democrat Playbook

Young black man walks away

“Not one Republican called me an "Uncle Tom".
Not one Republican called me a "coon".
Not one Republican called me a "sellout".
Not one Republican called me a self-hating racist, or a bigot, or a homophobe.
Not one Republican ever insulted my intelligence.
Not one Republican stabbed me in the back because I had the nerve to be a free thinker.

I was convinced as a college student back in 2004 that the Democrats were the saviors, to the point where I told my father that since it was my first year as a registered voter that I was thinking of voting for John Kerry. The next day, my old man called me down to his office and he prescribed that red pill for me via a long persuasive talk about the cold hard truth behind politics. On election day, I voted for Bush.

In 2008, I was naïve enough to want to see history be made as we had a first-ever minority President in my lifetime. Due to the economic recession, I voted for Barack Obama. And then I enlisted into the United States Navy and that move gave me a whole brand new perception on life and on patriotism. We all had to live with eight years of one of the biggest mistakes I ever made by voting for Obama. And some of us voted for him twice. I didn't vote at all in 2012. The economy got even worse. Nothing in the urban areas improved. Race relations went backwards. Social media was crawling with fake armchair politicians who do nothing but post memes and report any and everyone with opposing views.

I am so thankful that this #WalkAway trend is spreading so widely and so quickly and I'm thankful that so many people have seen the light and have seen right through all the leftist liberal BS propaganda. The party that's all about "Love Trumps Hate" is ironically the same party that spreads more hate than anyone else in the United States and are riddled with the divide-and-conquer mentality. I walked away when I admittedly voted for Donald J. Trump in 2016 and I will surely vote for him again in 2020. Make America Great Again and let's keep it great!”  From the #WalkAway site, by David Allen

America is under attack by guest blogger, Todd L. Thorton

“I'll go out on a limb here and say assaulting people in restaurants, airports, and elevators because they don't agree with a particular point of view rises well above a civil conversation. Destroying businesses, city vehicles, occupying parks, defacing private homes, and blocking city streets is no way to win an argument. Taking a stand against national borders, law enforcement, and the rule of law tips the scales of sound judgement. America doesn't want socialism in any form.

We are proud nationalists, not racists. We want everyone to do well and be successful. The left has destroyed our schools, our health care, and religious freedoms. Their idea of "help" is to fence off minorities into racist "projects" and attempt to care for their every need at their neighbor's expense. No one wants a hand-out, they want a damn job. They attack our legal system because a conservative court will stop them from overturning our elections, taking our guns, our freedom, and our ability to stop them from fundamentally changing America into China, Venezuela, Brazil, Argentina, or Cuba. They decry fascism while actively practicing it while calling us fascists. They think we are that stupid because we don't speak up.

America is under attack, and as such, an equally defensive show of force is required to stop these offensive attacks. The left has lied, misled, and deceived the American public using scare tactics because they too know we are not Venezuela. The left will pay the price at the ballot box this fall. The left has brought tools to the battle field of political discourse never before used. Despite George Soros spending nearly $1 Billion to finance the fall of America funding this nonsense and nightly reporting of the horror and lies by $1 Million talking heads at CNN, ABC, CBS, NBC, et. al, the left is still failing. All that money should have been spent on homelessness, education, medical research, cleaner fuels and the environment all issues the old left used to care about.

The old left is gone, replaced by globalists using our youth as tools to destroy freedom, democracy, and everything that stands in the way of the power of Billionaires to lord over us. The leftists and Democratic socialists/communists are about to have these weapons of political discourse now turned upon them. One simply cannot un-ring the the bell when it appears they are losing.

Despite their best efforts, we will win. We are smarter, we work harder, we love freedom, and we love the United States of America. Say no to censorship. Do not let anyone divide us by gender, by race, by religion, or even by sexual orientation. We are all Americans. Period. Identity Politics is designed by the leftists to destroy and divide us. Vote Republican in all races this fall and continue the journey to make America great again.”

Toxic masculinity and white supremacy

There was a huge semi parked in front of Marc's today--full of potted mums. All had been unloaded by the time I walked in. There must have been hundreds, every color and size. I kept thinking about the time and physical effort to drive that massive truck, and to load and unload. When I came out I saw the truck had moved ahead a little so as not to block the store entrance. I could see someone moving around inside, so I stood by the truck's tail gate for the driver (and I assumed a helper) to come out. He finally appeared. Only guy on the truck. He was white, fair skin, about 20, slight build, with a huge smile, blue eyes, and neatly dressed. "Can I help you," he asked. "Did you do all that by yourself?" I asked, motioning to the racks and racks of mums. He still had a load of flowers inside the truck and was moving them. "Oh yeah, it's not hard, and now I have another stop for the rest of the load."

Maybe there's a slender woman out there who could have wrestled this load and driven the truck and still be pleasant and polite to a stranger, but I haven't met her.

A new shampoo—Soapbox

Today at Marc's I noticed a shampoo I hadn't seen before, not expensive with a fragrance, Coconut, I like--Soapbox. As I was reading the ingredients, I noted this company donates soap made by local suppliers to needy people and even offers hygiene education. Each bottle has a number and you can see where your "contribution" is going. "Each of your Soapbox products donates a bar of soap to someone in need and often these bar donations are also paired with proper hygiene education. Sustainability is key and we practice it by working with local soap makers when available."

Made in the U.S.A. and company is located in Washington, DC. When I looked up the financial details, I see it is listed as a "for purpose" company owned by David Simmick and Daniel Doll, founded in 2010. I think it is also at Walgreens and Whole Foods.

Birthday of Lina Sandell, October 3, 1832

Today is the birthday of Lina Sandell, Oct. 3, 1832, writer of the great hymn, "Children of the Heavenly Father." I had never heard this hymn before joining Upper Arlington Lutheran Church in the 1970s, but after attending so many baptisms, confirmations and funerals in the last 40+ years, I call it my favorite. Karolina Wilhelmina Sandell-Berg wrote over 2000 hymns and can be found in the hymn collections of many denominations.

She walked away from the Democrats after the 2016 election, guest blogger Etana Hecht from Israel

During the campaign, politics became a passion of mine. I had CNN on all the time, and I loved the debates, loved diving into Twitter and FB conversations, and like so many others I was really excited about having a woman as president. As the elections got closer, I was confident she would win, like so many others. I spent a few evenings before the election with a like-minded friend, making campaign calls in districts that were still considered toss-ups.

My story isn’t unique in the disbelief and honestly, horror, I felt as the day went on (It was morning here in Israel) and the results started taking shape in a way so many of us had had no reason to expect. I got my kids off to school, stayed in PJs and cried, worried for the minorities who were so disparaged by Trump. I woke up my husband to tell him that Trump won and he laughed like I just told the funniest joke in the world. He gave me my space to be sad, and then together with a good friend of ours, knocked some sense into me over the course of an 8 hour conversation that lasted well into the night.

That was the beginning for me. It took awhile, but slowly I was able to gain some clarity and the clouds cleared. I now hate CNN with a passion. I had been as outraged as everyone else when Trump brought out the phrase “fake news”. I can definitely say without a doubt they are not only fake news, but the levels of dishonesty they resort to for their views is a disgrace to journalism. Fake news doesn’t mean they report something that didn’t happen - it means they’re reporting things that are not news, i.e,- fake news. Or they report things with such a slanted bias, that anyone with any self respect should see right through it and question their motives. The anger I feel towards the mainstream media, and CNN in particular, comes from the shame at having allowed them to dupe me, brainwash me, into hatred. Hatred towards Trump, hatred towards anyone who was associated with him, and anyone who supported him. They made me into an angry, perpetually outraged person and my natural personality is the exact opposite of that- I’m passionate, but also very easy going, I love people and I love having a good time.

As I was navigating my newfound confusion about everything I had thought was a given, I started to look for alternate sources of information, and kind of tried to “reset” my preconceived notions. My hatred for everything Trump was deeply ingrained and I was very very skeptical of anything not anti-Trump for awhile. I still felt a sense of disgust at his inauguration. It was painful to watch Obama hand over the presidency and I felt sorry for Hillary. But that was also when the absolute madness started getting out of control. The marches. The pink hats. Then came the so called “Muslim Ban”, and this is where the media started to lose me. It wasn’t a Muslim ban, it was common sense. I tried to keep some of my “liberal” outrage and jump on the whole “Trump is anti-Muslim” bandwagon, but I couldn’t, because it was so obvious that it wasn’t true. Unvetted immigrants from extremely dangerous and toxic parts of the Middle East are obviously a terrible idea, and it made perfect sense to me to put an end to it until they can figure out a vetting process. Of course, the mainstream media gave absolutely no perspective to the issue. The most they did was have their token pro-Trump commentators on a panel with 5 or 6 anti-trumpers and shout him down. That’s journalism today? That’s debate? They started to look crazy to me, and it only got worse from there. That’s around the time that I began looking for alternative media sources.

The first one I found was a guy named Dave Rubin, who had previously been on The Young Turks, and had left to open his own show. He’s a gay Jewish guy who always considered himself a liberal, or a classical liberal, but leftism and the Democratic party has gone so far to the left, that he no longer aligned with leftist values. His show, called The Rubin Report, hosted all sorts of people for long form interviews. It introduced me to dozens of thinkers and interesting people, but more importantly, it introduced me to ideas and conversation. Real ideas, real debate, real dialogue with people who had no interest in disparaging the person with the opposing view, but rather to engage in thoughtful, nuanced discussion about various topics. It was a breath of fresh air, and I started following many of his guests, which opened me up to the incredible world of alternative media, mostly on YouTube.

From there, I was able to really begin to understand and form my own ideas, my own values and be able to apply those to whatever the outrage of the month was. Instead of jumping on whatever bandwagon CNN and half my FB feed was telling me to jump onto while only providing a small portion of relevant information, I started to look into issues for myself and take in a broad spectrum of views before forming an opinion. Once that happened, I had no choice but to conclude that on a whole lotta issues- I agreed way more often with the actual policies that Trump proposed than the Democrats. I would consider myself a right-leaning libertarian, or a libertarian leaning conservative at this point. Haven’t chosen one yet   ;)

I can’t go into every single example, but let’s take one - the wall. The wall is racist! Right? Not so much… The wall makes as much sense as having a gate around your property. His rhetoric was definitely over the top sometimes, but anyone claiming he said ALL Mexicans are rapists are being shamelessly dishonest. He used harsh language about very bad people as a way to get his message across. The media made it seem like the wall is as bad as taking brown babies and throwing them into a ditch, but stop and think for one minute- America is not anti-(legal) immigrants, and neither is Trump. All the wall would accomplish is forcing asylum seekers to request access to the country legally, as well as doing some badly needed damage to the loads of drugs, weapons, and human trafficking that a wall-less border allows for. Both positives for the country.

Now I’ll switch from what started attracting me to the Republican party to what drove me away, very quickly, from the Democratic party. If I had to choose one word it would be intolerance. The condescending attitudes combined with a touch of hysteria tainted every single conversation and debate, to the point that it’s almost impossible to find someone who still associates and considers themselves a leftist who’s willing to have a civil and honest conversation without jumping to attack the person they’re speaking with.

So many assumptions on the left are based on pure falsehood, that only serves to divide. The idea that minorities, gays, women, blacks, even Jews are under attack, or under some sort of threat posed by the Trump administration is pure garbage based on nothing other than a storm of hysteria whipped up by the mainstream media and even elected officials of the Democratic party at this point. Saying that doesn’t make me homophobic, racist, anti-Semitic, sexist or any other label people might want to slap at me- it makes me realistic.

The best part of this journey is what I found when I started opening my eyes and engaging in conversation with anyone who doesn’t fit the tiny path leftists have shrunk to - I found love, acceptance, tolerance, willingness to engage in ideas that were opposing or even controversial - everything the Left and the Democrats claim to stand for! The only diversity the Left welcomes at this point is diversity of skin color, ethnicity, and sexual orientation, which in itself is actually kind of racist/homophobic/insert here. Just look at how conservative blacks/gays/Mexicans are treated. There is zero tolerance, as seen on your thread, for diversity of ideas, even when the other ideas come from someone who I know for a fact isn’t racist or homophobic- me!

Trump Derangement Syndrome is real, and it’s dangerous. I’m grateful every day that I was snapped out of it and I’m back to my sunny, happy personality now that I stopped believing that every time Trump does or says something, someone will die or the world will end. It’s dangerous because as hateful as they claim the rhetoric is from Trump, it’s actually significantly worse coming from the Anti-Trump crowd who are ironically blinded by hatred. I’ve never seen personal attacks and rhetoric as vicious as we’ve been seeing from the Anti-Trump crowd, and it’s getting worse, not better. The adults in the room have GOT to stand up and say enough is enough, before they destroy everything they claim to protect.

The great thing about this time is, as Dave Rubin says, that the shakeup has provided some seriously fertile ground for thoughts and conversations in the mainstream, and we’re looking at a mass exodus from the Democratic party that really can’t be stopped at this point. They’ve thrown too many Americans off their narrow path, and I don’t see them backtracking and winning them back anytime soon.
It’s a great time to be alive, and an even better time to #walkaway

NTIS/NTRL data base for searching

“The National Technical Reports Library (NTRL – U.S. Department of Commerce) has become an open access resource, following a decision made by the National Technical Information Service (NTIS).

The National Technical Information Service serves as the largest central resource for government-funded scientific, technical, engineering, and business related information available today. For more than 60 years NTIS has assured businesses, universities, and the public timely access to approximately 3 million publications covering over 350 subject areas.

The Kavanaugh hearings, guest blogger Kay

I am a Republican. (Let’s see, I have a devotion to my Catholic faith (therefore I must support the KKK), I support the 2nd amendment (therefore I must support wide spread use of guns, rather than responsible use), I do not believe in murder, including a baby in the womb (not sure what that is called), I believe in marriage between man and woman, as intended by God.  I don’t know if I want to go on as the truth is important to our well being and humanity.

I would like to add, because of the Democrats of this committee (and perhaps others, but I’m thinking of at least Durbin and Feinstein), they are trying to turn the tide to suit their agenda. If you had noticed, Feinstein did not ask questions of any substance during her turn to question Kavanaugh. These Democrats blame the FBI should have handled it, but their “own” member (Biden) claimed truthfully, the FBI does not make any recommendations. I’m sure you heard Biden’s outburst that has been replayed and replayed. (From the Clarence Thomas hearing)

The Senate committee attempted many times to accommodate Ford. If you saw the interview with Ford, you would have realized she did not know of these offers. One can only guess that her attorneys are running the show.

It is the committee’s obligation to complete a full investigation. While the majority attempted to obtain information and accommodate Ford, the minority did NOTHING.

If listened to Kavanaugh’s statements, he repeated his stance that he requested an immediate hearing on the matter, immediately, and that he wanted to make his own statements, that he would do anything the Senate committee asked him to do whether it be their own investigation or another FBI one.

From Kavanaugh’s perspective, if your life has been turned into a complete, beyond belief, mess (can’t think of a better word, and I know they are out there!), you would be very angry, very insistent on resolving the mess, and very persistent of your own innocence to the accusations.

I can understand his perspective.

For Dr. Ford, she (with most likely help from others) has brought to the table a very serious accusation.  None of us approves of any assault of any kind whether it comes from a man or from a woman. Her accusation has no substantive proof.

And wrongly so, the Democrats are advocating Kavanaugh should prove his innocence. Actually, she should have the burden of proof. Think about that concept. It has been discussed widely across news media (maybe, though, not in CNN’s world). Think about the ability to accuse someone, resulting in the ruin of that person’s life, without regard of carrying out justice process, that is: “innocent until proven guilty”. Think how that can be the ruin of men of this society  and actually anyone.

It’s sick.

My first entry was October 2, 2003. No credit for the misspelling.  It’s the best I could do without making one.

Do you know the sex/gender terminology?

Grant #2011-JF-FX-0001  Urban Institute  “Access to Safety, Health Outcomes, Substance Use and Abuse, and Service Provision for LGBTQ Youth, YMSM, and YWSW Who Engage in Survival Sex “https://www.urban.org/research/publication/access-safety-health-outcomes-substance-use-and-abuse-and-service-provision-lgbtq-youth-ymsm-and-ywsw-who-engage-survival-sex

This report provides a list of definitions for LGBTQ youth at risk for health problems. It was sort of wordy, so I condensed a bit.  In a discussion group we were noting the changing terminology.

Cisgender: Individuals whose experiences of their gender match the sex they were assigned at birth.

Gender expression: The aspects of behavior and outward presentation that may (intentionally or unintentionally) communicate gender to others in a given culture or society.

Gender nonconforming: People who have or are perceived to have gender characteristics or behaviors that do not conform to traditional or societal expectations. Gender-nonconforming people may or may not identify as transgender.

Sexual orientation: Whom a person is physically and emotionally attracted to. Sexual orientation is distinct from gender identity; transgender people may identify as heterosexual, bisexual, gay, lesbian, or any other sexual orientation.

Transgender: People whose gender identity (internal sense of being female, male, or another gender) is incongruent with their sex assigned at birth (physical body).

Young men who have sex with men (YMSM): Young men who may identify as heterosexual but have sex with members of the same sex, often in exchange for money and/or material goods.

Young women who have sex with women (YWSW): Young women who may identify as hetero-sexual but have sex with members of the same sex, often in exchange for money and/or material goods.

Exploiter: An individual who uses tactics involving force, fraud, and coercion to control a young person’s involvement in the commercial sex market.

Peer facilitator: A peer, who may or may not be engaged in survival sex, who provides nonexploitative support to someone engaging in survival sex, so the person engaging in survival sex does not have limited mobility; decides what they do and what they trade sex for; and is not subject to force, fraud, or coercion.

Youth engaged in survival sex: The phrases “youth engaged in survival sex” and “youth who exchange sex for money and/or material goods (e.g., shelter, food, and drugs)” are used here to reflect young people’s experiences of involvement in the commercial sex market in their own terms.

Gay family: An alternative familial network of LGBTQ people that may act as an alternative to the family of origin from which many LGBTQ people, particularly youth, have been excluded. The term may also be used to refer to drag houses in the ball scene.

Ball scene/house culture: A community consisting primarily of black and Latino and Latina LGBTQ people organized around anchoring family-like structures, called houses, and competitive balls. [I’d never heard of Ball Culture, but you can find a description in Wikipedia https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ball_culture .  Apparently, Langston Hughes in the 1920s described it.)

Barrier and nonbarrier protection: Any contraceptive or other protective device or method used to prevent unwanted pregnancy or the transmission of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) or other STDs.

Interesting findings about the almost 300 youth in this study (this is the 3rd report):

99% of these LGBTQ at risk youth in this study were using contraceptives (barrier and nonbarrier). [A quick look shows that compares with about 50% of non LGBTQ teens)

93% were using the services of a helping agency, 99% accepted help from them and 94% said they would seek help from that agency again

only 5% in the study were white.

47% male, 36% female, 11% transwoman (i.e.biological male), 3% transman (biological female), 5% other, not specified, or wouldn’t say

These youth are at greater risk than heterosexual male and female youth for violence, abuse, sexual victimization, mental health risks,  sexually transmitted diseases, and homelessness

Did it really snow in Colorado last night?

Sent by a friend (male).

It had been snowing all night. So at ….

8:00: I made a snowman.
8:10: A feminist passed by and asked me why I didn’t make a snow woman.
8:15: So, I made a snow woman
8:17: My feminist neighbor complained about the snow woman’s voluptuous chest saying it objectified snow women everywhere
8:20: The gay couple living nearby threw a hissy fit and moaned it could have been two snowmen instead
8:22: The transgender person asked why I didn’t just make one snow person with detachable parts
8:25: The vegans at the end of the lane complained about the carrot nose, as veggies are food and not to decorate snow figures with.
8:28: I am being called a racist because the snow couple is white..
8:31: The Muslim gent across the road demands the snow woman wear a burka
8:40: The Police arrive saying someone has been offended
8:42: The feminist neighbor complained again that the broomstick of the snow woman needs to be removed because it depicted women in a domestic role
8:43: The council equalities officer arrived and threatened me with eviction
8:45: TV news crew from CNN shows up. I am asked if I know the difference between snowmen and snow-women? I reply, “Snowballs” and am called a sexist.
9:00: I’m on the News as a suspected terrorist, racist, homophobic sensitivity  offender bent on stirring up trouble during difficult weather.
9:10: I am asked if I have any accomplices… my children are taken by social services
9:29: Far-left protesters offended by everything are marching down the street demanding that I be beheaded.

Moral: There is no moral to this story.  It’s just the world in which we live today and it might get worse.

Cyclist death rate highest in Florida

“The Most Dangerous Place to Bicycle in America. Pinellas County, Fla., has the highest cyclist death rate in the Tampa Bay metro area—which has the highest rate of any metro region in the U.S. “ according to the Wall Street Journal.

It’s the word “rate” that bothers me.  The rest of the article seems to use numbers and percentages.  We have more people, more vehicles and more cyclists than in previous years. However, for Florida, it has both the highest rate per capita and the highest number. The lowest rates are all in states that have considerable snow and weather not conducive to biking.

“…The number of cyclists killed in motor-vehicle crashes nationwide hit 840 in 2016—the most recent data available—according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. That was the most since 1991 and a 35% jump from 2010. A range of likely reasons explains the rise in deaths, including more overall vehicular traffic and driver distractions, according to people who track transportation trends. Texting by drivers remains a big problem, said Deborah Hersman, chief executive of the nonprofit National Safety Council.

“Almost every state in the country has a texting ban, but we still find drivers are texting behind the wheel,” she said. Alcohol is a factor. In 2015, 22% of fatally injured cyclists, and 12% of drivers in these crashes, had a blood-alcohol content level of at least 0.08, the legal limit for motorists in most states, according to the nonprofit Governors Highway Safety Association.  While cyclist death rates have risen in many states since 2010, the three with the most fatalities since then—Florida, California and Texas—account for about 40% of all cyclist deaths, according to NHTSA, despite having 27% of the nation’s population…”

A female attorney leaves Democrat party after the Kavanaugh travesty

“Dr. Ford is believable, inasmuch as I think something happened to her, but she is being used in a craven and contemptuous manner by her party. Her lawyers never even told her that all of this could have been done privately in her home. And while all of this is happening my lovely senator, Kamala Harris who got her start in politics by sleeping with Willie Brown, is fundraising. And Dianne Feinstein, who I used to respect, has turned into a senile party hack who will do anything to keep her job.”

Electric Mirror company is Christian and Pro-life

https://www.electricmirror.com/

I was watching a program on how a family owned business (7 years in the garage) can thrive and succeed with Christian values. I've never seen this product, although I haven't been looking. Made in America, Christian, pro-life. I found 2 locations that sell this in Columbus. Wish I needed a mirror! The Mischels filed an Amicus Brief in support of Hobby Lobby. They adopted their son Aaron whose 14 year old mother had been raped (her own mother attempted to get an abortion for her). Aaron is part of the business. No one could call him an unwanted child.

“Over the years, President Jim Mischel, Executive Vice President Aaron Mischel and the Mischel family have chosen a variety of not-for-profit organizations to be recipients of financial support from Electric Mirror. These vital groups focus on health and wellness for people with serious diseases; provide food and shelter to orphans and widows; rescue victims of sex trafficking; foster stability and prosperity for the poor and homeless; and help those hit hardest by natural disasters.”
