Test at home for Covid19

“The U.S. Food and Drug Administration granted emergency use authorization(link is external) (EUA) today for an innovative COVID-19 viral antigen test developed with support from the National Institutes of Health’s Rapid Acceleration of Diagnostics (RADx) Initiative. Ellume USA LLC, Valencia, California, designed the test for use at home without a prescription. This is the first EUA awarded for an at-home COVID test that can be purchased over the counter.  Ellume developed the test with a $30 million contract and technical support from the RADx Tech program, managed by the National Institute of Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering (NIBIB), part of NIH.” NIH-funded COVID-19 home test is first to receive over-the-counter authorization from FDA | National Institutes of Health (NIH)

If this works as other innovations do, the price should come down with competition.

RADx was part of the Warp Speed program of President Trump although not mentioned in the above article. Evidence is here: Operation Warp Speed: Vaccines, Diagnostics, and Therapeutics | 2020 Congressional Testimony from CDC

Restart the count

These two tests are being conflated both by the CDC and some states. Let's start over on the count, shall we? It's just science, you know, and that is never wrong, except a lot during this pandemic.

Viral tests — also known as PCR tests due to a process known as polymerase chain reaction — are administered to discover whether someone has an acute, current infection of COVID-19. These tests are what public officials are referencing when confirmed cases are reported.

Antibody, or serology tests, on the other hand, measure whether or not an individual might have come into contact with COVID-19 in the past. They do this by testing an individual's blood to see if their immune system has developed antibodies in response to the disease.
