Soothing musical memories

This blog is from a January 1989 letter:

I've been using my New Year's resolution and my Prevention newsletter to do walking again. Last week I logged 10 miles in my little book--not up to my old records when I used to do about 4 miles a day. . .

I don't have anything exciting to tell about like the concerts, plays, and museums that my big sister goes to. I guess she'll have to get the culture for the rest of us. The other day I was listening to National Public Radio (which is about all I listen to these days) and I heard a lovely piano solo that I remembered Joanne playing way back when, and I thought what a blessing it was to the whole family that she studied piano for so many years. We grew up hearing the beautiful music of the masters and didn't even realize it.

Hey, that's Bill Maher

Bob has taken to watching old reruns of the TV series, "Murder She Wrote," and today I looked up from my blogging and said, "Hey that's Bill Maher, the late night political commentator."  "You mean the one who got fired and then rehired?" "No, but it's Bill Maher with long curly hair,"

So I looked it up and sure enough, it's "Fire Burn, Cauldron Bubble" Episode aired Feb 19, 1989.

Waiting for new glasses

My cataracts are gone, but I’ll need some sort of prescription so that I don’t have to carry around reading glasses (currently using 3 pair, and seem to always be looking for them).  The first few weeks my close up vision was fine, but has slipped some, and distance still has some astigmatism.  When we were at the lake 2 weeks ago, I found a pair from 1989. I’m still adjusting to color—particularly anything in the blue spectrum. According to what I’ve read, some people with cataract removal experience more purple.

Friday Family Photo

Last week my niece Cindy and family visited us. She and her husband are teachers in Bradenton, FL. About 18 years ago, Cindy also got a nursing degree. Here she is with her proud mother, my sister Carol, and her brother Greg at her graduation ceremony in May 1989.
