Romanoff, the second shoe to drop

Andrew Romanoff of Colorado was offered a job to drop out. Obama wants the other Democrat. You know what this e-mail, just released yesterday, means, even though the White House will spin it. These are three very distinct, clear job descriptions. I'm sure they weren't sent by Messina for editorial corrections. Rahm Emanuel's fingerprints are all over this, as they are with Sestak, as they will be when Blago sings. It's like the Nixon years--what did the President know and when did he know it? Except, our poor inexperienced President is probably as clueless about ethics as he is oil spills--where would he have learned? At least Nixon knew.

Romanoff says of the non-offer, non-bribe: "In September 2009, shortly after the news media first reported my plans to run for the Senate, I received a call from Jim Messina, the president's deputy chief of staff. Mr. Messina informed me that the White House would support Sen. Bennet. I informed Mr. Messina that I had made my decision to run," Romanoff said in a statement released early Wednesday evening. "Mr. Messina also suggested three positions that might be available to me were I not pursuing the Senate race. He added that he could not guarantee my appointment to any of these positions. At no time was I promised a job, nor did I request Mr. Messina's assistance in obtaining one."

When Do They Tune Out?

"So an oil spill that he had as much ability to prevent as George W. Bush did to stop Katrina from hitting shore has snared the president, who oversold himself and the power of government. But the Joe Sestak scandal may be worse. For one thing, it’s a White House–made mess, not a natural disaster."

I started tuning Obama out during the 2008 campaign, reached for the remote as he looked down his nose at us and our country and wagged his finger, promising us more taxes and higher energy bills, and of course, transparency and honesty in government. His transparency has come in strange ways. He's still a thin skinned, narcissist, Chicago thug, and nothing he's said since July 2008 has changed what he wrote in his books, said in his speeches, or the friends and associates with whom he surrounded himself. He is what he is.

This [Whitehouse] alibi boils down to: "We didn't try to bribe Sestak; we got Bill Clinton to try to bribe him for us. But what we were offering wasn't worth anything. So it couldn't be a bribe."

So if it is not (whatever the definition of "is not" is) a bribe, then it isn't a felony. But, an uncompensated seat on a commission is still a "thing of value."

Sestak and Obama White House

If you google "Joe Sestak Barack Obama" you get about 1,200,000 hits--and since he only claimed victory in the primary a few days ago, that's huge--even with duplicates and reposting. I wonder how this will affect the voters who might turn to the Republican candidate saying "a pox on both your houses." Pols and bloggers from Chicago can't imagine what all the fuss is about. Doesn't everyone bribe?

Talking points memo has a number of stories on this.
