Obama's Likability Gap

Daniel Henninger of the WSJ thinks candidate Obama 2008 and President Obama 2011 are two different guys.
Obama.2008 was engaging, patient, open, optimistic and a self-identified conciliator.

Obama.2011 has been something else—testy, petulant, impatient, arrogant and increasingly a divider.
Not me. I always "heard between the lines"--sarcasm, dislike for us, and whining. The way he treated Joe the Plumber is not a lot different than his treatment of Paul Ryan. The way he supports today's union thugs looks pretty much like what he promised SEIU while campaigning in 2008. What was optimistic about hearing he wanted energy prices to go up so we'd become more willing to accept green myths and stories? Where's the hope in higher taxes for small business people earning more than $200,000? Didn't anyone else hear that?

The alien in the White House

When I commented on my blog some time ago that Obama was not "one of us" I received such vicious, race-baiting comments I think I took that essay down. People Liberals think you're talking about race or ethnicity, not character or patriotism. So I was glad to see Dorothy Rabinowitz's column in today's WSJ, "The alien in the White House" because she covers it all. The man doesn't know or respect our history--not even its failings. Who but the clueless about the spiritual base of the Civil Rights movement would turn Martin Luther King day into a national work day? Who but a man who had no respect for the military would make small talk to his audience before addressing a Muslim terrorist attack on our soil, on our military base? What President ever would jump into a purely local issue--behavior of police observing a break-in and call it racist without knowing the facts--but wait weeks and weeks to rally his subordinates in charge of the regulatory agencies to address an economy killing oil disaster? Who would go on an apology tour while we are still at war--or what commander-in-chief would all but ignore those wars he promised 3 years ago to end? Who but one who is an empty hollow shell, a man without a country, without an inner source, a complete narcissist, a man with no belief system except failed marxism, political grave of the spiritually dead. No, he isn't one of us. Nor is he in any traditional sense of the word, a leader.

Yes, Theresa, it is a single issue election

Character. The sum of those distinctive mental and moral qualities, and those traits instilled by nature, education religion and habit. Theresa Hogan has a long article on the Op-Ed page of the Dispatch today, claiming some Republicans are voting a single issue, ABORTION. Well, that would be enough for me, but the single issue for me is the man Barack Obama. I don't care if he is a Christian, Muslim or Buddhist. He must be a man of character.
    • His Supreme Court and lower court nominees.
    • Who will be rubber stamped because he'll have a filibuster-proof Congress.
    • Who will decide critical cases based on their personal feelings and beliefs rather than the Constitution.
    • Which Obama sees as a mere list of negatives.
    • His tax plan and rescinding the Bush tax cuts.
    • Taxes imposed because of his idea of fairness, not need.
    • Which will destroy our economy with the same heavy hand that FDR used in the 1930s to extend and expand the Great Depression another 10 years after he took office.
    • His disregard for our security and the military.
    • A flaw so large that even his enemies have sensed it sending warnings through Joe Biden.
    • His willingness to run out on our allies, regardless of the circumstances that took us into the war, or what will get us out.
    • His unwillingness to face the serious charge of being a socialist by joking about sharing in grade school but never answering the charge.
    • His prancing around Europe like he was an elected leader, claiming to be a citizen of the world. Posing with symbols of fascism.
    • His address to the nation (infomercial) before he has been elected.
    • His choice of friends and associates, known terrorists, crooks and race baiters, while at the same time showing complete disregard for the living conditions and feelings of his blood relatives, white and black.
    • His inability to identify with or respect rural and working people and their values.
    • His lying about his position as "professor" when he was only a "lecturer," then using his attack troops in the press to go after Joe the Plumber because he hadn't passed his apprenticeship, and used his middle name (Obama doesn't like to use his).
    • The same lackey press who have been unable to find a thing askew in Obama's college record, employment history, his friendships, or his family.
    • His lack of experience--well, Theresa, dear heart, that's as wispy and dangerous as the web of the recluse spider (shy, lonely and sedentary, weaving its web in high and dark corners).

The stealth candidate

And I thought Clinton was Slick Willy and Nixon Tricky Dick. Obama has them both beat because even his most ardent, naive supporters know very little about him. You can't judge a man by his character if you don't have a clue who he is.
"Time and again, the man who draws so openly on King's legacy refuses to sacrifice an iota of possible political support by taking a principled stand on matters of racial justice that King said are matters of right and wrong. Instead, Obama makes cryptic or general comments that leave his position on important racial issues ambiguous or unknown." Juan Williams in today's WSJ
Unfortunately, I think we'll be finding out who he really is very soon. Republicans have contributed to this by choosing a candidate whose biggest attraction seems to be he's not as far left as Obama and will be tough on national security and doesn't advocate killing helpless babies. I wish there were more.
