The July 2021 outbreak among the vaccinated

Although the breakthrough infections among the vaccinated were reported, the Provincetown, Massachusetts, mini epidemic in July 2021 was the first big one I heard about. (And haven't heard of another one.) Over a thousand people developed Covid, and over 900 of them were vaccinated. This article in CDC's January 2022, Emerging Infectious Diseases, "Multistate Outbreak of SARS-CoV-2 Infections, Including Vaccine Breakthrough Infections, Associated with Large Public Gatherings, United States" https://wwwnc.cdc.gov/eid/article/28/1/21-2220_article? is an interesting description of the investigation which was a major warning that vaccines might protect from death or serious illness, but not from getting or transmitting the disease. There is no comment in this article that P-Town is mecca for the LGBTQ community. Special guides are printed to promote this. I can't even link to some of the articles about the activities. Even the titles were pornographic.  We visited there in the late 1970s and it was true then. In this discussion there's no mention of the immune compromised state of untreated or controlled HIV or whether the drugs given to gay men for long term treatment of AIDS might affect the efficacy of the vaccines. I know there is research on this--I saw it in Lancet. Also, perhaps it was the serial intimacy and not the "large gathering" that was the problem? Masks, which are recommended for vaccinated people in this discussion, won't help with that. 

The main author, Radhika Gharpure, concludes that with all this data, "major epidemiologic QUESTIONS about BREAKTHROUGH INFECTIONS, such as the comparative infectiousness of fully vaccinated and non–fully vaccinated persons, duration of viral shedding, and duration of vaccine-derived immunity, REMAIN." The obvious question probably couldn't be pointed out without damaging her career.

Rolling Stone did an anecdotal account of those who were in P-Town and how the gay community stepped up to alert others, but it too seemed to suggest more masking as the solution to a terrible infection rate.

Legal marijuana in Massachusetts

I was watching on TV that traffic jam in Massachusetts for legal marijuana. What a stupid group--from the state lusting for taxes, to entrepreneurs raking in the bucks, to the deluded buyers. We've got massive health and expense with drugs, alcohol and obesity, marching with those who rant against GMO, chemtrails, vaccines and gluten. We have the deluded who put hormones regularly in their bodies, who think building fake vaginas and adding penises are a civil right, and they've now talked themselves into adding another toxic chemical to their already damaged bodies. Good luck on hanging on to those brain cells--they seem to be in short supply already.

Governors who hate Trump love taking credit for the surpluses, guest blogger

We have a Republican governor in Massachusetts running for reelection.  Governor Baker is a big time Trump hater.  Massachusetts has had two bad governors in a row so nothing gets done other than more taxes and people leaving the state.  The interesting  advertisements by Baker deal with more jobs created (yes, he takes credit for the Trump economic boom) and a financial surplus of one billion dollars. 

Surpluses never happen in Massachusetts.  What is this one all about????  Well, we all know the Trump tax bill allows USA corporations to bring back money kept over seas at a now reduced taxed rate.  There was a news item two or three months ago that stated these corporations had brought back $351 B (Billion).  Probably more now as more time has passed.  It has been a bonanza. I don't think the tax rate is responsible by itself for these actions.  The USA capital investment rate is now estimated to be over 10% (I saw another number at 8.5%) because the USA is growing very nicely while Europe is still growing, but at a slowing growth rate that is declining quickly.  China's stock market is moving downward very quickly as well with a 50% drop vs 2015 and a 20% plus drop since the tariff conversations started.

But here is my point.  The high tax states also have a tax on the monies brought back into the USA.  These states did not drop their taxing rate on the returned monies.  So they all got a wind fall of extra taxation.  So Charlie Baker, governor of Massachusetts., got a 1.2 billion dollar  surprise.  But yet he has the guts to say he did it.  This is just another example of the guts these do nothing politicians can claim and look their voters straight in their face doing so.  Connecticut is worse.  It got a 3 billion dollar surprise.  What did your state get?  95% of the voting public have not an idea of what is going on.

Our precious first amendment is being shredded

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof;" The first phrase of the first amendment of our Bill of Rights, ratified Dec. 15, 1791. So speech, press and assembly all rest on this one--freedom of religion without government interference. We take religion so lightly in the 21st century, but our founders didn't. In the European countries from which they and their forefathers came, one's religion depended on the Monarch. When Henry VIII wanted to divorce his wife, the whole country had to become Anglican, and when his daughter Mary took the throne, they became Catholic again. Then Calvin's ideas infected the Anglicans and those people became Puritans resulting in a civil war; Knox influenced Anglicans and they became Congregationalist and eventually they all ended up across the pond so our founders needed to take steps that all had freedom of religion, not just one or whoever was pleasing to a central government.

Hillary Clinton has said publicly a number of times that we must change cultural norms and religious doctrines as they concern sexuality and abortion. But sexual freedom and gender are not in the Bill of Rights, not even the 19th, which specifically applies to women voting; and religion is. There is no criteria for gender identity except feelings; it is not based on biology, science, religion or law. Changes in the meaning of the word sex were made in the back rooms of the federal bureaucracy by Obama's LGBTQ staffers in 2012 (around the same time they convinced him to rule on gay marriage). Americans never had any say in this.

Massachusetts has passed a law taking effect October 1 that restricts churches to having only worship events in their buildings unless they have transgender bathrooms. Violators will be jailed. Think of all the festivals, day care, voter registration, weddings, funerals, debate matches, home schooling events, public concerts, ESL classes, and food pantries that churches now have open to the public that are not worship. Someone needs to sue the state of Massachusetts for violating the First Amendment rights of its citizens.

Large or recently built churches often have a handicap, family, or one stall restroom for which they can slap a sign on the door to meet government sex police standards, but why should they have to, and what about older, smaller buildings?

Little princess Wannabee steps in it

"Elizabeth [minority benefits wannabee] Warren represented not just Travelers Insurance, but numerous other companies starting in the late 1990s working out of and using her Harvard Law School office in Cambridge, which she listed as her office of record on briefs filed with various courts. Warren, however, never has been licensed to practice law in Massachusetts."

This woman has a real truth problem in her personal and professional life (also claimed to be the first nursing mother to take the bar exam, although how you prove or disprove this, I don't know). I really don't want her in Congress, but I can't vote in Massachusetts. If she wins, Ms. Phony Baloney will be making laws that affect all of us!

You're toast. You're history. You and yours need to go down in a pit of shame for passing this ridiculous piece of legislation which will increase taxes on everyone and raise costs for everyone while rationing care for the elderly. If I've ever seen a piece of legislation misnamed, it would be "Patient Protection and Accordable Care."

Coakley and Obama's fat cats and special interests

An editorial in today's WSJ points out how cozy Democrats are with Big Health. They occasionally appear for whip lashing by the Administration, but right now they are needed to "fill Teddy's seat." This Massachusetts race is certainly getting strange. I'm for Brown. I'm part of the right wing rich fat cat conspiracy (DNC ads) that sent him money.

"Amid a Beltway panic, the health lobby is riding to the rescue of the Massachusetts liberal, whose defeat in the special Senate race next Tuesday could deny Democrats the 60th vote for ObamaCare and thus maybe spare the U.S. health system from the coming damage.

As first reported by Timothy Carney of the Washington Examiner, the host committee for the fundraiser at Pennsylvania Avenue's Sonoma Restaurant includes lobbyists for Pfizer, Merck, Eli Lilly, Novartis and sundry other drug companies that have been among the biggest of ObamaCare's corporate sponsors. Other hosts—who have raised at least $10,000 for Ms. Coakley—include representatives from UnitedHealthcare, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Humana and other insurers. As far as we can tell, the insurance industry claims to oppose ObamaCare's current incarnation.

Naturally, lobbyists from America's Health Insurance Plans and Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America, the major trade groups, were on hand too. Money follows power in Washington, obviously, though this example seems especially inexplicable given that Ms. Coakley's GOP opponent, state senator Scott Brown, may be the last chance to defuse the health-care doomsday machine. But maybe someone in the press corps will bother to mention this episode the next time President Obama takes aim at the "special interests" he claims are opposing his agenda."

How the government can make you an outlaw

My husband retired from IBM about a decade ago, and as we aren't old enough for Medicare we still buy our health insurance through the company. But IBM, with its typical courtesy, informed us recently that we will be fined by the state.

Why? Because Massachusetts requires every resident to have health insurance, and this year, without informing us directly, the state had changed the rules in a way that made our bare-bones policy no longer acceptable. Unless we ponied up for a pricier policy we neither need nor want—or enrolled in a government-sponsored insurance plan—we would have to pay $1,000 each year to the state.

My husband's response was muted; I was shaking mad. We hadn't imposed our health-care costs on anyone else, yet we were being fined ("taxed" was the word the letter used).

We've spent much of our lives putting away what money we could for retirement. We always intended to be self-sufficient. We've paid off the mortgage on our home, don't carry credit-card debt, and have savings in case of an emergency. We also have a regular monthly income of about $3,000, which includes an IBM pension. My husband, 61, earns a little money on the side, sometimes working as an electronics consultant on renewable energy projects. I'm 58 and make some money writing science books. We are not wealthy, but we aren't a risk of becoming a burden on society either. How did we become outlaws?

Read more how what was supposed to save the middle class from the costs of the uninsured ended up costing every one more and offering less. But then, have you ever known the state or federal government to take over a private industry and then save you money? Wendy concludes, "The mandate in Massachusetts was sold as something that wouldn't penalize people like my husband and me. But those political promises were only good for as long as it took to get the mandate enacted into law." And that's exactly what will happen with Obamacare, which at this time, no one even knows how it reads or what it is, not even the sponsors. "Getterdone--we'll hope 'n change it later" is Reid and Pelosi's motto.

The Massachusetts Primary--Guest Blog

Yesterday the primary took place in Massachusetts to replace Senator Ted Kennedy. Link. AG Martha Coakley won the Democratic nomination with 304,056 votes or 47% of the Democratic vote and 37.5% of the total vote. Scott Brown won the Republican nomination with 141,810 votes or 89% of the Republican vote and 17.5% of the total vote. You can cross parties in the primary so it is difficult to say whether a Republican voted Republican or did they cross over and vote Democratic. But a big factor is that only 11% of all registered voters in Massachusetts are registered Republicans. The last time there was a Republican Senator was Edward Brooke who lost his seat in 1979.

But how come Massachusetts gets a Republican governor every second or third election? Because they need one to clean up the financial mess the Democrats create. Well, the Democratic train wreck is here now and the nation, along with Massachusetts needs to put a Republican in this seat. Is it impossible? It is next to impossible, but the time has never been better. Republicans don't vote much in Massachusetts elections as they think it is no use. Well, with these very small turn outs the Republicans have a better chance than normal. I have addressed this communication to those of you who live in Massachusetts. You must vote! Also, please send this to all the people you know in Massachusetts and work to get a better turn out. I believe the election date to fill this seat is January 18th or close to this date.

Democratic candidates for governor in NJ and Virginia were voted down. That made big news and sent an unsettling message to the 111th congress. A Republican Senator from Massachusetts would be like setting of the A bomb in Congress.

Again, please vote and pass the word onto your fellow Massachusetts residents and friends. It is not impossible. And just as important, Scott Brown is a well qualified state Senator who has great values and represents a true difference to the liberal politicians trying to destroy or republic, our culture, and our future.

Running for Kennedy's seat in the Senate

"We're in the second year of a major recession. Millions of Americans have lost their jobs. Our 401Ks and retirement plans have plummeted in value. Businesses have closed and are continuing to close. We have all seen examples throughout this state and certainly throughout the country.

Here in Massachusetts, as the unemployment rate rises toward double digits, the response of the Governor and the majority party has been to raise taxes of every type and make it tougher for businesses to survive. Remember they are the economic engine that will help us recover. I have stated on many occasions that higher taxes will further weaken our economy and put even more people out of work. In Washington, the politicians mistakenly believe that spending more money and growing the size of government is the answer. They are wrong. I believe that it is the private sector - small businesses and entrepreneurs -- that will get our economy moving again. Government can and will help, but it also needs to know when to step out of the way."

Now no homeowner in Massachusetts is safe

A report is called in to police that someone is trying to break into a house. So they go there. Unfortunately for Massachusetts, it's a black man trying to get into his own house, and he gets very testy with the police expecting them to know he's someone very important, Professor Gates of Haaavard.

Now even the President, who didn't comment for days on a Muslim terrorist killing one of our soliders right here in the United States, has decided to weigh in.

"President Obama addressed the arrest of Harvard scholar Henry Louis Gates Jr. at his Cambridge home during his news conference tonight, saying that "anyone would be angry" and "the Cambridge police acted stupidly."

Obama prefaced his reply by saying that "I might be a little biased here" because "Skip Gates" is a friend, and by acknowledging that "I don't know all the facts."

He then recited what has been reported, and joked that if he tried to jimmy the lock at his current residence -- the White House -- "I'd get shot." Boston Globe report.

Good luck, Cambridge. It's open house in your neighborhood from here on out. He wasn't arrested for trying to get in his own house as the media has reported, he was arrested for disorderly conduct--accusing the police of racism. And Obama was right--he didn't have all the facts. But he did have them about the murder of his soldier and he chose to keep quiet.

Mass in Motion

Sandy at Junk Food Science has a great article about a new tax waster [or waister, if you will] in Massachusetts, called Mass in Motion. It's $750,000 in grants for wellness programs. Remember, this is the state which has sent Barney Frank to Congress year after year to supervise Fannie Mae. If employers can tap you on the shoulder and coerce you into a "lifestyle management program" can voters suggest that some of the Congress need to lose pork in order to be returned to Washington?

I'm no expert on weight loss, but some of the things in the "tool kit" have already been judged in peer reviewed research to have little affect in long term weight loss--such as Weight Watchers

There was no difference between the low-carbohydrate approach of Atkins, the high-protein low-glycemic load approach of the Zone diet, the very low-fat approach of Ornish, and the low-calorie/portion-size approach of Weight Watchers, according to a 2005 study published in JAMA

And drinking 8 glasses of water a day was also debunked some time ago as a weight loss aid. I think that myth was started by plastic bottle manufacturers.

These type of grants (the $750,000 to Massachusetts) are ubiquitous--the only surprise is that it is so modest. They are everywhere, especially from HHS and USDA which props up our farmers, and the private foundations; it keeps the grant writers busy and the bureaucrats and lawyers employed. They often go hand-in-hand with greenies and vegan wannabees--so you throw in a few million for bike lanes, redesigned housing complexes, and community gardens. Mike Huckabee may be one of our most famous former fatties, and he put Arkansas on a diet because it worked positive results for him. The results are quite mixed, and Sandy also reported on this two years ago. There was an increase in underweight children, and the percentage of overweight and at risk African American girls significantly increased as they grew.

I can't prove it, but I'm guessing if you chart the huge weight gains of Americans and the rise in diabetes and other obesity related health problems, you might track it back to government interference 30-40 years ago with our food commodities like corn and sugar. When I was growing up we had real sugar in Coca-cola and candy bars, and I sure didn't see so many obese people. Our legislators and regulators, probably after a few hearings before Congress, slapped tariffs on imported sugar (because it was bad for us and made us dependent on foreign imports), and then paid U.S. farmers to grow more corn to put high fructose corn syrup in everything from soup to soft drinks. And each generation got fatter. Anyone know where there's a chart?

We don't eat oil, but we're dependent on it for everything in our culture. The government has done the same thing in the name of being "independent of foreign oil" and going green. Then when the government botches it up and creates huge industries like carbon exchanges and ethanol that support their mistake, they can tax us again to try to correct it.

Paper mills in Fitchberg, Mass

Another strange economic analysis in the USAToday today, to prove, I suppose how bad "this economy is." There's a large photo in the print edition with caption, "Troubled times: the paper mills have closed in Fitchberg Mass., on the Nashua River, and the city is in an economic slow down." We visited that part of the East in the late 70s, and most of the paper mills, furniture factories, and textile mills were on their way out then or were being turned into renewal projects from the perfect storm of union strikes, environmental regulation, and improved technologies which reduced the number of workers, or required expensive upgrades to old buildings. I've checked several web sites about Fitchberg, and can't find anything about a recent closing of paper mills, at least not since its unemployment rate of 5% in April 2008.

But also, I found on the web the 2000 census, and guess what? In 1999 (i.e., long before George W. Bush), Fitchberg was below the national average in college and high school graduates, it was above average in disabilities, it had fewer foreign born than the rest of the U.S. (was about 1/3 foreign born in 1920), had a lower household income than the rest of the country, lower median income, and families below the poverty rate was 12.1% compared to 9.2% for the country, and 15% for individuals, compared to 12.4% for the country. Clearly, Fitchberg was in trouble a decade ago, but it certainly wasn't "this economy" and the current slow down.

Also, the reporter decides to feature a 47 year old divorced mother of 17 year old twins who was 9 months behind on her mortgage before she sought help from the non-profit counseling agency. This is the example of what "change" is needed? Four years ago she had purchased a home for $210,000 on an income that was from 2 jobs--a house cleaner and a home health care worker. Her patient went to a nursing home, and she lost that part of her income. What she did to bury herself even further is not told, but clearly, she shouldn't have had that level of indebtedness no matter who was in the White House.

And yet she's hopeful that a "change" in Washington might make a difference in her life. Yes, 'mam the way FDR dug the hole deeper that Hoover started in the late 20s and extended for 10 years.

The good news about Fitchberg is its 29 year old woman mayor. Seems to be a trend, because she looks like a woman who plans on big things, just like another small town mayor who's been in the news lately.

Also, the rivers are clean now, not brown like they were when the paper mills were running.

Why should I have to shop around?

Wal-Mart no longer carries the J.R. Watkins face cream I learned to love after purchasing it at the Port Clinton store last summer. I wonder if I can sue to require them to do so? Why should I have to shop around or send for it?

When I was researching the Gee accident story, I see Dr. Rebekah Gee, MD, MPH, an obstetrics and gynecology resident in the MGH/BWH combined residency program in Boston, was a plaintiff the Wal-Mart Massachusetts case forcing the mega-retailer to carry, Plan-B, a product the founders and owners find immoral and unhealthy. It kills embryos--it’s an early abortion without the trauma of thinking about a potential life.

It’s just amazing. Protesters try to force Wal-Mart to relocate or not build, denying jobs and low cost products in the area, and when they do jump through the hoops, they try to force them to change not only their business practices, but their personally held ethics and religious values.

Feb. 14, 2006 (Just in time for Valentine‘s Day, Wal-Mart announces it will carry Plan B) “A new [Massachusetts] state law that took effect late last year following heated debate on Beacon Hill requires all hospitals to provide the morning after pill to rape victims. It also allows pharmacists to dispense the pill without a prescription, but does not require them to do so. . . .

Sam Perkins, a lawyer for the three women, praised the board's decision and said he was prepared to file lawsuits in other states should Wal-Mart not overturn its policy. Abortion rights groups and women's organizations have also urged Wal-Mart to change its policy.

"From our point of view, they've bowed to the pressure of litigation, in part," Perkins said.

The plaintiffs — Katrina McCarty, 29, of Somerville, Julia Battel, 37, of Boston, and Dr. Rebekah Gee, 30, of Boston — were turned away when they tried to buy emergency contraception pills at area Wal-Marts.

The women said they knew they would be refused when they went to the Wal-Marts in Quincy and Lynn and that the action was planned with the abortion rights groups and lawyers.

"I'm proud to be able to tell my patients that they now can go anywhere for their prescriptions," Gee said. "My patients should not have to shop around." “

Gee’s attempt to fill the prescription was not personal, but a part of a planned action by abortion rights groups and Planned Parenthood. President Gee is a Mormon if I remember correctly. Should make for some interesting family discussions.

Now, will Wal-Mart be required to stay open all night, or to rush purchasers to the front of long lines at check-out? Will they need to stock kiosks outside bars on college campuses? How far do they need to go to satisfy the abortion lobby?

It's not brain surgery

why Ted Kennedy didn't go to Canada or Cuba to have his tumor removed--or even to a Boston hospital or a European hospital. No, he went to Dr. Allan Friedman at Duke University Medical Center in North Carolina. In 2000 and 2004 NC was solidly behind Bush; the Democrats are working hard to get her into the caretaker mindset right now. I don't know why Dr. Friedman is at Duke and not at some famous northeastern hospital in a Democratic state, or even Chicago where he was born and went to medical school, but let me guess; lower real estate taxes, lower state income taxes, lower luxury housing costs, lower crime rates, stronger ethical and moral values among the populace and the ability to lure the best talent there to assist him, despite the liberal administration and faculty at Duke. And who knows, there might even be some evil capitalist money (tobacco?) funding that tumor center. The 3.5 hour surgery has been declared a success and it will be followed up by chemo and radiation, which will probably be done closer to home.

The irony is that under socialized medicine only a wealthy government official, son and grandson of inherited, ill-gotten wealth would be able to afford such care. Even at the height of the power of Stalin and Mao, the party officials always had the best.* But more importantly, with socialized medicine, a doctor of Friedman's skill and talent, wouldn't even have been trained in the United States.

Democrats want their families to benefit from our health system (and "system" is not a good word for it), but they don't want you and me to have those benefits. They want us to wait in line for our turn, to have our health needs decided by a committee, and then be assigned to whatever hospital needs the work whether they've done 10 surgeries or 1000. It would make no difference if you elect Binky Obama or Hillary Rottie Clinton, all competition and excellence must be eradicated; everything must be dumbed down to be fair to the newest, non-citizen who doesn't speak English and the homeless guy who couldn't give up the bottle, and the exotic dancer who cried rape. Rev. Wright and Father Pfleger have already explained to you that if you're white you're a piece of trash. And let's hope that the equipment that will save your life doesn't have a petroleum base because then. . . well, sorry, that's been capped along with your life span by Lieberman-Warner.

*One of the ways I put food on the table as a grad student was translating a Russian medical newspaper, Medisinskii Rabotnik. The ordinary folks got a fel'dsher, usually female and poorly trained, not a doctor.
