Yesterday morning we got an update on our dishwasher/paper plate problem. It wouldn't be fixed in time for the big Thanksgiving Day dinner. But Hallelujah! Wednesday at dinner we had full table ware and weren't eating with plastic. I don't know what got fixed (needs 180 degrees on rinse) but we are all relieved. Also rent announcements for next year came out, and we're so thrilled that Trump's economy is working and the inflation I expected didn't happen. I think the hype we're getting about "affordability" is last year's Biden left-overs and they smell bad.

Something I'd never thought of
"The next time that you wash dishes by hand, here's an experiment I'd like you to try. Stop up the sink over which you hot rinse the dishes, and then at the end of the wash cycle, measure how much water is in there. I'll bet it's more than you thought you were using, because when it runs down the drain, you don't see it. How many gallons did you end up with?
I'm suggesting this experiment because, unbelievably, newer, efficient dishwashers use as little as five gallons of water for the entire dishwasher load. On the other hand, says the American Water Works Association, when you wash dishes by hand, the average person uses 20 gallons of water. Now maybe this figure comes from those that leave the tap on as they're washing and aren't conservative with water the way you are. But I'll bet that it would be a challenge for you to hand wash an entire day's worth of dishes using five gallons only-for the dipping, washing and rinsing."
I wonder if the writer factored in the energy to build and create the dishwasher? But it's good to know the new ones are so efficient. Mine isn't very old (a Maytag), but it's a piece of junk and will soon need to be replaced.

Every night the same conversation
At our summer home on Lake Erie in Lakeside, Ohio, we wash and dry the dishes together. At home we have a dishwasher. This is such a pleasant, companionable task we often say we'll do it in Columbus, but we never do. And as he washes, and I dry, my husband says the same thing every evening, "How can two people create all these dirty dishes and silverware?" So I go through it piece by piece--this fork was used for cat food, this spoon was for the Cool Whip, this spoon served the main dish, this one the vegetables. It's like talking to a toddler who asks "why," you explain, and he then says, "but why?"
Tomorrow the herb class is going on a field trip to Schedel Arboretum and Gardens in Elmore, Ohio. We'll have a guided tour and a box lunch. Our hostess is Carolyn Swanger. We met Gene and Carolyn Swanger a number of years ago when they bought a cottage at Lakeside and then needed an architect to make it fit their family's needs. He's faculty emeritus at Wittenburg, just some of the many wonderful people we've met here.
Each Wednesday there's a picnic in the park, but so far we haven't attended. There always seems to be something else, and tomorrow will be no different. After a box lunch I don't think I need hot dogs for dinner.

You may order by contacting Consumer Sales at 1800 442 9991, M-F, 8:00AM to 8:00PM EST.

--------------------------
So 3 months past the "platinum warranty" that cost $89, which apparently covered a different rack and wouldn't have been covered anyway, and all I get is this apology for a product they've known for years was corroding. DO NOT BUY MAYTAG!
