Wednesday night picnic August 24

The last family picnic of the season--we're sitting at a picnic table with Bob and Pat Borean in the foreground and a few others enjoying hot dogs, baked beans, macaroni salad, chips, watermelon, cookies and lemon-ade. You can see us in the second photo too, Bob in the navy shirt on the white chair.  Games for the kids, always fun to watch.

Wednesday night Picnic

On Wednesday evening we head for Perry Park, weather permitting, to eat a hot dog, macaroni salad, baked beans, watermelon and chips.  This is a happy time, with a lot of laughter.  We bring a long our chairs because there aren't enough picnic tables to hold the crowd. In the second photo are Bob and me and Pat and Bob with whom we were sitting, and then some photos of the volunteers who help with the food. It was extremely hot last night, but the breeze from the lake was wonderful.

It's 94 at the lake

 And the air conditioning died.

We've contacted the new owners and they've decide to replace rather than repair.  That's what the new environmental laws do--force people to buy new rather than repair. It's supposed to be cooler tomorrow, and we haven't had the really hot days that Columbus has experienced.  The AC was new when we bought our cottage in 1988, and we replaced it in 2002. So I hear 20 years is a good record for AC units. Tonight we go to the picnic in the park--last week was too rainy and cold! Tonight we'll be slapping our ankles as the bugs in the grass bite!

Lakeside 2019, week one

Yesterday and today's programs in Lakeside are on the Little Free Library movement, begun by Todd Bol and now international. I think there are at least 4-5 in Lakeside, but not sure I've seen any in Upper Arlington. https://littlefreelibrary.org/ On my way to yesterday's lecture by Margaret Bernstein a Channel 3 Cleveland reporter I stopped at one and picked up a Jessica Fletcher mystery and replaced it with an Agatha Christie.

Tuesday’s Lakeside Women’s Club featured Gretchen Curtis on the History of Knitting in Photography, and I was the co-hostess providing and serving refreshments. That evening the Patriots Symphonic Band performed “Sounds of Summer.”  The band members are drawn from more than 25 communities across northeast Ohio, and I think this was their third performance in Lakeside.

Wednesday evening was the opening of the weekly community picnic, and we had a day of glorious weather, which has been in short supply this week.  Same menu as the previous 26 years--hot dogs, baked beans, macaroni salad, potato chips, water melon, and sandwich cookies. This year there are many new picnic tables in the park, so we finally left the lawn chairs in the car.

Wednesday night picnic at Lakeside

Dinner was all planned. Baked chicken, fresh green beans, potato salad and fresh strawberries. Then on my afternoon walk I went past the park where they were setting up for the community picnic. . . so everything went back into the frig for tomorrow night. Hot dogs, macaroni salad, baked beans, potato chips, watermelon, lemonade and cookies.  Not the healthiest diet, but once in awhile that's OK.

Our Lakeside neighbors, Arlene and Roger
Marcia from Toledo ate with us
The kids love the hoola hoop games after eating
