Identity politics and the Left

I subscribe to "New Criterion," and it must have had a great ad, because I doubt I've read more than 2-3 articles in my first 6 issues. But Roger Kimball has a good editorial in January 2023 issue, that I'll just give a tease:

"If chattel slavery hadn’t existed in the United States, the Left would have had to invent it. What we mean is that the idea of slavery has become so dear to the disciples of identity politics that without its moral sanction they would be lost. Absent the original sin of slavery, the entire racialist racket that holds our society hostage would sputter to an inglorious halt. The race hustlers promoting 'affirmative action' (i.e., race- or sex-based discrimination) would be out of business, as would the real-estate magnates and firebugs of Black Lives Matter. Ditto the angry historical fantasists behind The 1619 Project.. . .  https://newcriterion.com/issues/2023/1/the-mob-comes-for-madison

Anti-racism, microaggression, knocking down statues of saints, white supremacy--you know the deal. Yet slavery has existed since the beginning of history, and particularly flourished in Africa, and still does. Even Biden's administration looks away while women and children enter servitude to pay their passage across the border in sex slavery. People anxious to make a new life come from all over the world to flood our borders.

And I've said something similar about poverty. We have so many programs to fight poverty from the government and non-profits (including churches) that if poverty disappeared tomorrow, we'd have to reinvent it or have millions of unemployed staffers and CEOs who would be out of work. Race hustlers and poverty pimps. It's far more than a cottage industry--it's big business.

No, it’s not Obama’s economy

The recession was over in June 2009, but the reason the workers didn't see a lot of change was the government intervention, so there wasn't real progress. Business owners who could just waited it out--didn't expand, didn't hire, and cut their labor force. Others went under if they didn't have lobbyists and friends in the party. One of the worst programs I thought was "cash for clunkers." It was a give away to the car companies, and it seriously damaged lower income people who needed transportation to get to work or find work--they were the ones who would buy those clunkers that were being destroyed. It was also a give away to the green lobbyists and the mortgage industry because so many people had to finance those new cars even with government handouts. On a graph, it looks like economic growth, but really solid growth happened after Obama was out of office and unable to terrorize business.

It's no wonder Democrats focus on "infested" as a racist word (Elijah Cummings), or Trump's tax returns (Gavin Newsome). Low unemployment, low inflation, low mortgage rates, shrinking credit card debt, higher savings rates, higher consumer confidence, and for me, I'm making more with my 403-b than I when I worked. And there are millions and millions of retirees having the same experience with their 401-k, pensions and savings--even those who hate Trump.

The next step for the Democrats is to deliberately sabotage the economy and the American people in order to get Trump and their power back.

It’s not about breakfast cereal anymore

Today I received in my e-mail a notice about The Racial Equity Anchor Collaborative funded by the W.K. Kellogg Foundation.

Reading through the blurb it appears to be an organization to funnel voters into the Democrat Party because there's no policy or plans, just vague buzz words about racial healing, equity and full potential: Nine organizations.

  • NAACP;
  • Advancement Project’s national office;
  • Asian & Pacific Islander American Health Forum (APIAHF);
  • Demos;
  • Faith in Action;
  • National Congress of American Indians,
  • National Urban League;
  • Race Forward;
  • UnidosUS.

Seems to have evolved out of the Ferguson riots 4 years ago.

We have so many wealthy foundations and non-profits throwing money at social justice and racial equity projects I'm beginning to see them as part of the problem rather than part of the solution. I'm wondering if the bureaucracy of the NGOs (there are 1.5 million in the U.S.) isn't rivaling that of the federal government.

Who benefits from the race riots?

As I noted earlier, statistically, both in number and rate, more whites in the commission of a crime are killed by police than blacks. Whites also kill each other--about 84% is white on white because most crime is intraracial, gays kill each other, too, and many who kill know the victim. Only women and children don't fit that mold. When children are murdered, it's most likely one of the parents or her boyfriend, and a gun isn't used. In central Ohio right now we have a grisly serial murderer of women (again), a white man with white victims, unfolding and they're just finding the bodies. But it doesn't seem to make the national news, cause riots, or stick to the news cycle.

Why is that? Money and power.

Racialists, politicians, and media outlets can't make money or get votes by stirring anger over a mother suffocating her baby, or a white man kidnapping and killing white women. No one breaks windows and steals Air Jordans over a child killed by its parents. Racist alarmists and poverty pimps like Dyson, Jackson, Sharpton, Black Lives Matter and hundreds of academics on the government grant teat would have to cut back on their extravagant life style if riots like Charlotte, Dallas, Ferguson and Tulsa didn't happen.
