Now they’ve gone too far in bashing the Bushes

Laura was always fresh faced and lovely in my eyes. Remember all the Hillary hair internet sites? Seems her hair dresser doesn't enjoy being left out.

"It took Laura Bush four years to finally look good. It's taken Michelle Obama two months. She wears fake eyelashes that are beautiful. She can't do those herself." (Hillary’s former hair dresser.) Meow.

Paul L. Williams writes for the Canadian Free Press and he‘s one of those talking heads experts called in on the various cable and broakcast chatty news shows. He lists TWENTY TWO (22) personal assistants, secretaries, coordinators, and deputy-whatevers and their salaries here. Considering the economic times and her non-office, she certainly is a big spender--and I don’t think the gardener or make-up artist were even on that list.

The Obama handlers seem to be keeping Michelle under wraps so she doesn’t behave stupidly, like someone close to her, and mess up plans for legislation with falling poll numbers. Maybe all this staff is a pay-off for keeping quiet? She knows how rough those Chicago handlers can get. Look what they're doing to the Blue Dogs!

Michelle Obama is the first First Lady to hire a full-time makeup artist. Ingrid Grimes-Miles travels with her and is credited with making her eyebrows look less "angry,” but an Obama spokesman is quick to point out this salary is out of their personal funds. ?? Does that mean what supporters have donated instead of the ordinary taxpayer?

Do you even remember the last 8 years? Every one of Laura Bush's appearances was carefully staged and scripted. I don't think she ever said a word that wasn't cleared through her advisors and by the end, she had gotten so used to playing the part that all you ever saw was her blank stare and her vapid smile. She reminded me of a stepford wife.

Michelle's words are definitely not scripted and I defy you to show me an example of Laura inspiring others the way that Michelle did in her emotional speech to inner city black girls.

You really think she is being kept under wraps? We see more of her than we did of Laura, and she has two young daughters.

You're so used to the artifice and shallowness of the Bushes that you don't quite know how to handle it when you see genuine people being themselves.

To the above commenter.... THANK YOU.

I could not have said it better myself.

I believe I was discussing 22 personal staff in a time of economic downturn, not who writes which script. Someone should be writing for Michelle among those 22 employees, God knows she certainly insulted Ohio women during the campaign. Oh the whining! The angst! How awful to be a high priced lawyer and wife of a senator and having to pay back those college loans and pay for private school for the kiddoes. Did Laura specifically demean any particular group of women? I must have missed it.

And Laura was a librarian.

We have two wars to deal with, Heath care in crisis, unemployment in double digits and all the rest that we are dealing with...and we worry about has HI lied to us about Obama being born there or what type of beer they drank at the "beer summit" or the wearing of false eyelashes..For pete sake. it is kinda nice to have a first lady that gets in there, has opinions and inspires little girls. Good for her...

I love it when Dems scrap over every piece of litter of the Bushes and ignore the huge trash piles of the Obamas. 22 personal assistants--you would be outraged if that was a Republican.

"Michelle Obama’s performance as first lady is getting high marks from her predecessor Laura Bush.

Speaking to The Associated Press after a change-of-command ceremony for the USS Texas submarine at the Naval submarine base, Bush said Friday she’s watched the current first lady from afar and is impressed.

“I think she’s doing a terrific job,” she said. “It’s like a club; very few people have been in that position. I sympathize with her, and I also know what it’s like.”

Bush was known as a traditional first lady, but was the first to record one of the president’s Saturday radio messages. She also held a news conference in the White House briefing room, rare for a first lady, to accuse Myanmar’s military rulers of ineptness after a killer cyclone struck."

She's a class act all the way, even in retirement, complimenting Michelle.

Staff size depends on how active a role the flotus takes on.

If you're just a meeter and greeter, like the former flotus, then you don't need much of a staff. If you're going to use the position do actually try to accomplish something (like the miserable Just Say No campaign), then you need a bigger staff.

I am constantly amazed at how people feel the need to not only live through their idols, but to also tear down others whom they have never met nor know.

People such as this are sad.

I am not sure what scares me most... (Alleged) Christians (yes, I am talking about you Norma) bearing false witness by quoting Janet LaRue's statement about Obama's health care by comparing it to Jack Kevorkian or quoting Janet LaRue.

Norma, where was your concern / outrage for us taxpayers during the Bush administration?!! Laura Bush paid her staff ~ $1.4 million annually vs. ~ $1.6 million annually for Michelle Obama. Can you believe the gall of Michelle Obama to outspend Laura Bush!?!!

Norma, my suggestion to you would be to stop spreading FUD (Fear, Uncertainty, and Doubt) and propagating double standards and do something productive like... I dunno... feed the homeless...

Ken, I was probably feeding the homeless before you were born, and also working for your right to be born.

And just what do your good works have to do with anything? Isn't that what you're saying?
