Speeches by First Ladies
However, if you don't like a candidate the wife is fair game it seems. I remember when a group from the American Library Association refused to attend (or maybe picketed) a speech by Laura Bush, a former librarian and big supporter of reading and archives. ALA is so left it could fall off the planet. And I remember people on the right criticizing Mrs. Obama for her toned arms! She always looks great, and is a great role model for girls who can't get out of jeans, but detractors couldn't see it.
I read one account that Michelle’s speech 8 years ago was the same as that 7 habits of highly successful people book. But can’t imagine why Trump's campaign staff wasn’t more careful. At least she didn’t say it was the first time she’d been proud of her country. Although, maybe she did—I didn’t hear the speech.
I was a speech writer for a state politician in my 1983 job for the state of Ohio; it was a lot of cut and paste from her old speeches plus mixing in current issues, then making sure it had her rhythm and style. In those days you didn’t have the internet for checking word phrases.

First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt carried a gun due to death threats

Former First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt has lunch with students at the Ohio State University on November 13, 1959.
Notice the purse under her arm in the first photo? Did you know, in her later years, Eleanor Roosevelt was a "pistol packing" liberal? Pictured in the second photo (discovered at the FDR Library) is her pistol permit. Former First Ladies did not have Secret Service protection until 1964 and Eleanor had numerous death threats against her and a bounty for her head by the KKK for her outspoken support of civil rights throughout the 1950s. It is said that she always carried a gun in her purse when she traveled. Tom Betti spoke with tour guides at great length at her home in Hyde Park, New York and they insist she target practiced and was ready to defend herself! She was never afraid of anyone, but prepared to defend friends, herself, and what she believed in. One thing is clear from her ID photo, don't mess with Eleanor!

Now they’ve gone too far in bashing the Bushes
"It took Laura Bush four years to finally look good. It's taken Michelle Obama two months. She wears fake eyelashes that are beautiful. She can't do those herself." (Hillary’s former hair dresser.) Meow.
Paul L. Williams writes for the Canadian Free Press and he‘s one of those talking heads experts called in on the various cable and broakcast chatty news shows. He lists TWENTY TWO (22) personal assistants, secretaries, coordinators, and deputy-whatevers and their salaries here. Considering the economic times and her non-office, she certainly is a big spender--and I don’t think the gardener or make-up artist were even on that list.
The Obama handlers seem to be keeping Michelle under wraps so she doesn’t behave stupidly, like someone close to her, and mess up plans for legislation with falling poll numbers. Maybe all this staff is a pay-off for keeping quiet? She knows how rough those Chicago handlers can get. Look what they're doing to the Blue Dogs!
Michelle Obama is the first First Lady to hire a full-time makeup artist. Ingrid Grimes-Miles travels with her and is credited with making her eyebrows look less "angry,” but an Obama spokesman is quick to point out this salary is out of their personal funds. ?? Does that mean what supporters have donated instead of the ordinary taxpayer?
