This is odd--faculty already get a break on their kids' tuition

Dear Medical Center Faculty:

If you have a child who is applying to The Ohio State University College of Medicine this year, we would like to know about it.

While we do not guarantee acceptance into the program, we would like to be notified that your child is applying so that we may be sure that their application receives the appropriate attention. Your child's application will be subjected to the same rigorous review process of any other applicant.

If you have a son or daughter who has applied to the College of Medicine, please contact us by email . . .

If they don't get special consideration, why even mention it to you?

There are odd things in the whole legacy/dependent regulations. For instance, the children, adopted children and foster children of a same sex partner get the same advantages as the employee's children, but not an opposite sex partner. There are many reasons heterosexual live-in couples don't marry: 1) still legally married to someone else; 2) don't want to give up pension benefits or alimony of former or deceased spouse; 3) annulment wasn't approved; 4) personal distate for legal contracts, etc. But the university makes the call on the morality and validity of the relationships outside marriage. So I suppose the foster child of the ssp could get a special nod for medical school, too.
