If they don't get special consideration, why even mention it to you?
And how are you going to do that??
There are odd things in the whole legacy/dependent regulations. For instance, the children, adopted children and foster children of a same sex partner get the same advantages as the employee's children, but not an opposite sex partner. There are many reasons heterosexual live-in couples don't marry: 1) still legally married to someone else; 2) don't want to give up pension benefits or alimony of former or deceased spouse; 3) annulment wasn't approved; 4) personal distate for legal contracts, etc. But the university makes the call on the morality and validity of the relationships outside marriage. So I suppose the foster child of the ssp could get a special nod for medical school, too.
