On the debate between the Vice Presidential candidates

I didn't stay up for the whole debate on Tuesday, October 1--I just don't like seeing the moderators make themselves part of the story. Not as bad as ABC, but CBS, you should be embarrassed.

JD Vance was Mr. Smooth--kind, deliberate, thoughtful, incisive, and super prepared to bring the story back to Harris, the economy and the border, and why isn't she doing something NOW. The media have done a bang-up job of demonizing and lying about Vance, so people must have been stunned to see a smart, civil, talented, articulate and compassionate family man. Vice Presidents don't win elections, but they can soften or puff up the image. I don't know that I could've voted for McCain if Palin hadn't made him tolerable. The media tried to ruin her too; it's just what they do. They see themselves as commissioned to get Democrats into office.

Of course, the stars didn't align for Tim Walz. The news that came out yesterday that he lied about Tiananmen Square, that Iraq was bombing Israel, and the Biden/Harris team had done nothing to prevent a crippling dock strike that will send prices soaring, was all bad news not just for Harris/Walz, but for our leaderless country.

Oh, and the silly moderators decided to make the tragedy playing out before our eyes called Hurrican Helene was tossed in as a climate change issue, something on almost no one's list of concerns. Someone ought to fly them to NC to scoop mud out of homes.

The "facts" Walz blurted out were never fact checked by the moderators, and some were blatantly false (not misinformation or misspoke, either). It looks as though the legacy media doesn't cover anything that could make Democrats look bad, so they just don't have the information to explain that awful, terrible, ridiculous border bill that failed, the one that would have codified an enormous number of illegals allowed in. Harris lied about it too in her debate with Trump.

What you can say and what will get you cancelled

We can say, "China doll."
We can say, "dinner China."
We can say, "Chinese calligraphy."
We can say, " Chinese Communist Party.."
We can say, "Made in China."
We can say, "Chinese slave labor."
We can say, "all the tea in China."
We can say, "Chinese cabbage."
We can say, "Chinese silk."
We can say, "The great wall of China."

But we can't say, "The China Virus," even though the NIH and Congress have shown it to be so, and in February 2020 our major news outlets were calling it that.

"China virus outbreak has now killed six people and infected more than 300" CBS News, January 21, 2020.

"Economic impacts of Wuhan 2019‐nCoV on China and the world," Journal of Medical Virology, Feb. 18, 2020.

"News outlets contribute to anti-Asian racism with careless stock photos on coronavirus coverage." Media Matters, March 5, 2020

While Nancy Pelosi was calling Trump a racist for referring to a global threat as the "China virus," or the "Wuhan virus," which the media were also calling it, she was inviting tourists to come to San Francisco. ‘Come to Chinatown, we are careful, safe, and come join us.’ Fox News, Feb. 24, 2020.

Catching up with CBS

Listening to CBS News this morning I hear they are still blaming Trump for New Zealand. Big worry about "white supremacists." Nothing about all the Christian churches, Jewish Temples and Islamic Mosques attacked or bombed by Islamists in the past year. Everything is about Trump since 2016--the media just bump, grind and strip on this false narrative, pushing up his poll numbers. There was a big bombing of a Catholic Cathedral in the Philippines on January 29—did you hear about it?  I just noticed it in a social media post yesterday.  Don’t recall prayers for them from our pulpit as we did for New Zealand.  And in early March, it was Christians in Nigeria.

I rarely watch 60 Minutes (CBS)., but last night saw J.D. Vance (Hillbilly Elegy) of Columbus talking about the lack of venture capital in areas beyond the coast. At first (2016) the liberals loved Vance--talked about him sort like a cute pet--but a quick glance at newer reports I see they are back to hating common sense, believing someone who actually was poor and knows the system, and who used his grandparents' love (changed his name to theirs) and his own determination to pull himself out of poverty. The Left just doesn't like anyone who leaves the government run plantation.

Vile remarks from liberal media

"CBS News’ Scott Pelley offered a commentary last week, calling the attacking congressional Republicans self-inflicted “to some degree,” so Rep. Scalise being shot was partially his fault . ."

https://townhall.com/tipsheet/mattvespa/2017/06/19/cbs-news-was-the-steve-scalise-shooting-to-some-degree-self-inflicted-n2342881

I expect outrageous, stupid, inane and violent remarks on social media. I've seen some of the compilations.  But from Scott Pelley?  Really vile. Because Scalise is a conservative Catholic from the South, member of conservative caucus, the leftists in the media and culture feel free to ascribe all manner of thoughts and behaviors to him. They've lost all their humanity and deserve our contempt.

Musing on the scandals—some of which I’m forgetting

Just a guess, of course, but I think Sharyl Attkisson, the Emmy-award winning CBS News investigative reporter who has covered Benghazi and now thinks her computer may have been compromised, will probably not get the backing from CBS she is hoping for. After all, what's in it for CBS except the wrath of Obama?

What a surprise. Lois the the Leaker, the director of the Internal Revenue Service’s Exempt Organizations division, Lois Lerner, is invoking the Fifth Amendment and will not appear before Congress to answer questions about the agency’s targeting of Tea Party and other conservative groups. She'll be subpoenaed. She knew a year ago (at least) what was going on.

What is so dangerous about a group of women who find people registered to vote who list empty parking lots as a residence? For starters, it's scary for Democrats to be held accountable. It's so scary, the founders need to be audited.

Steve Miller, the departing IRS acting head, has admitted his really bad idea to “leak” the story and bury it on a Friday afternoon. Last week he denied it—or maybe walked around it.

Justice Department names a reporter (James Rosen) a criminal, read his private e-mails and tracked his whereabouts, right on the heels of the expose of the AP phones.  MSM reporters seem to be waking up to what he crook Obama is. But not Jay Carney.

CBS apology to our military and Vietnam Vets

CBS' apology was pretty poor in my opinion--"to those who were offended" for denigrating Vietnam veterans in Amazing Race. They never apologized for what they did or the thought, planning and evil behind it. The competitors had to sit through a musical number celebrating Communism in order to get a clue they needed to continue, and CBS planners put a checkpoint at a Communist memorial park built around the wreckage of a downed B-52. I think the MSM is beyond repair.

Here's how an apology works. I'm sorry I did xyz, I was wrong. Forgive me. NOT: I'm sorry your feelings are hurt.  And forgiveness does not mean reconciliation.  The one to whom you apologized is under no obligation to be your friend, especially not if it’s as limp as “I’m sorry you were offended.”

CBS, Consistently Biased Source

I watched the “balanced” story on billionaires supporting super PACs on CBS last night.  95% of the content was based on an interview with appropriate snarky and straw man questions for Julian Robertson, father of hedge funds and founder of a Mitt Romney PAC.  He’s given $1.25 million to get Romney elected, the man he says is the best in the history of the presidency in terms of qualifications.  At the tail end, almost as an after thought, the reporter included a reference to an e-mail (we don’t see it) from Hollywood’s Jeffry Katzenberg who has contributed to Obama’s campaign $2 million and  justifies his donation as fighting the right wing.  He had no tough questions and no face to face on camera time—just a throw away paraphrase of an e-mail. Katzenberg said nothing about Obama’s qualifications and accomplishments, at least not for this report. Nor was he asked if he would seek special favors.

I’m not sure the reporter even mentions how mad Obama was at the Supreme Court over PACs, and then decided to get one for his own campaign.  Nor did he note what a big supporter of environmental issues Robertson is—usually a cause to make the MSM swoon.  The point of this interview was to cut down on Romney who is starting to look like the guy to go after.  Don’t believe me when I tell you that if you watch only broadcast news you only get news for Democrats slanted to make the GOP look bad?  Watch the video.

Letterman's liaisons with staff revealed

Nothing will happen to Letterman, but the extortionist (also CBS employee) will probably go to jail. Letterman will continue in his job as late night molder of the culture and character of Americans with off color jokes and hypocrisy.

Update: This story in WaPo contains zero editorializing--something I've never seen in their reporting.

Even the media people need to keep their jobs

An interesting story appeared on three national news programs Monday and Tuesday: amid all the bad news they were reporting, they actually brought on experts who were sensible, calming, experienced, and who said we have been through much worse times in the past 30 years (particularly in bank failures) and we will make it through this. Wow. It’s as though the advertisers, producers, writers and reporters suddenly realized they were contributing to the malaise and panic, and just possibly their OWN JOBS might be on the chopping block if they join the “sky is falling” crowd. Of course, it didn’t last long and they soon returned to their hysteria. It’s hard for a leopard to change his spots amidst the zebras. They all look like lunch. For people on fixed income and pensions, as we are, this is not a fun time to open the monthly statement. But from 2003-2007 it was a joy to meet with our investment adviser. It was like having a third person living with us who turned over his salary, but didn’t eat or use utilities or ask for the credit card to go shopping. What goes up must come down; all bubbles burst; nobody ever got rich (except federal and state bureaucrats and lobbyists) by asking the government for help.

The CBS Early show today actually showed how taking your lunch to work can equate to 500 gallons of gas in a year, a trip to Hawaii or contribute to a house down payment. The beautiful female lawyer who was interviewed was spending about $100 a week on just eating lunch at work--and she wasn’t even going to any great places. It’s amazing to think this woman went to college! And law school! I’m sure if interviewed about the state of the economy she’d be a whiner.

Here’s what I’d tell my son and anyone else worried about the economy: stop smoking (or some other expensive habit like daily lattes, lunch out or weekly manicures), put that money into your IRA, take a deep breath, and let the market do what it always does--correct and advance.

He's probably a Democrat

Les Moonves' salary in 2006 was $5.6 million, plus a bonus of $15 million for a total package of $28.6 million, according to the week-end WSJ. He got a 29% increase for 2007, for a package valued at $36.8 million. Guessing from what CBS offers us in entertainment, I'm betting he votes Democrat and is supporting Mrs. Clinton.

My 2007 pension was under $20,000, and I'm a Republican even though they also spend money like a drunken Kennedy. Still, I believe he should answer to the stockholders and not liberals who want to put a cap on the compensation of CEOs and executives of corporations.

Despite the trash, fluff and fodder, the Rathers and Courics who get enormous salaries to read the news, they should get what they pay for. . . and they are. And when you read Rather's remarks about Couric, you realize how many words that man uses to say, Yes, No, or Maybe.

Katie Couric

The other day I realized I'd almost completely stopped watching TV. I used to catch Book-TV on week-ends, Fox News occasionally in the evenings, HGTV once in awhile. Boston Legal if I was up late. Maybe 10 minutes of Dancing with the Stars. WOSU Antiques Roadshow.

Gone. The thrill is gone. I think it is Katie. I really do. Tonight I walked into the living room as she was interviewing the parents of one of the young men from Duke who've just been through the worst nightmare a parent could imagine. I almost gagged. I whined. Complained. She and the other talking heads contributed to this mess. Stalked out of the room. Then it hit me. She's the reason. Katie has permanently turned me against TV.

She always looks like she's sincerely speaking at a wake; she asks asinine questions; her voice is like fingernails on a blackboard; her wardrobe looks like they dressed her from my own closet. Please. Send her home.
