I'm reading "Blindsight is 2020; Reflections on Covid policies from dissident scientists, philosophers, artists, and more" by Gabrielle Bauer, Brownstone Institute, 2022. It begins with two stories we've lived through the last almost four years. And I'm guessing it's not over.

 
Story one is the one all the media agencies, tech and pharma giants, politicians, local, state, and federal governments insisted we believe. And I did, and maybe you did, for about the first month after which not much made sense if you knew anything about economics or social sciences. It had the momentum of a patriotic war--if you didn't go along or found it fantastical, you were the enemy of the people. You weren't saving lard or scraps of aluminum to help our boys in Europe and the Far East.  And miraculously, it turned out to be just the crisis that the Democrat Party dreams about to turn to their favor. Demonize the incumbent and change the rules for voting,

Story two is the one that moved underground--it is told in this book by 46 epidemiologists, public health experts, doctors, psychologists, cognitive scientists, historians, novelists, mathematicians, lawyers, comedians, and musicians. They all took issue with the way the people in Story one were trying to stamp out a virus using unproven and dangerous methods, including lockdowns, experimental vaccines, masking and destruction of our basic liberties.

A lot of Democrats and liberals have been "red pilled" by this health crisis and trauma, even though they still don't like President Trump (who also got suckered by some of the "believe the science" deep state). I hope there are some answers in this book. I'm still in chapter one.

Fauci has reappeared

For a long time I didn't know anyone who had Covid. Then as more lockdowns, more masking, more vaccines and more boosters just about everyone I know has had it or now has it. Most recently, 2 women in my Bible study group--and we meet on Zoom! And almost all of them did everything they were told to do by the Biden administration and their state governments (our governor nagged us for 2 years). Have you had that experience? And now Fauci's back on the news again. Hasn't he had it at least twice? Must be time for the mid-terms?

New Omicron variants

"In recent months, scientists have identified multiple new Omicron subvariants of SARS-CoV-2. First spotted in South Africa and the United States, the subvariants—BA.4, BA.2.12.1, and BA.5—have driven new upticks in cases in both nations. The new versions of Omicron are even better at evading the protection offered by vaccines, a previous infection, or a combination of the two. So far, it’s unclear whether the new subvariants will drive a spike in cases worldwide as their predecessors, the Omicron BA.1 and then BA.2 strains, did this past winter and spring, respectively.

“We’re definitely entering a resurgence in South Africa, and it seems to be driven entirely by BA.4 and BA.5,” Penny Moore, a virologist at the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, South Africa, tells Science. “We’re seeing crazy numbers of infections. Just within my lab, I have six people off sick.”

So let's see what the Biden administration does about this.  More fear and panic.  Forced closures?  Mask mandates.  It's obvious from the number of publicized cases of fully vaxxed plus 2 boosters (like Jen Psaki, Kamala Harris and Bill Gates), that this is highly infections and seems to laugh off the vaccines.

The New York Times reports similar fears: “…A virus that shows no signs of disappearing, variants that are adept at dodging the body’s defenses, and waves of infections two, maybe three times a year — this may be the future of Covid-19, some scientists now fear. The central problem is that the coronavirus has become more adept at reinfecting people. Already, those infected with the first Omicron variant are reporting second infections with the newer versions of the variant — BA.2 or BA2.12.1 in the United States, or BA.4 and BA.5 in South Africa. Those people may go on to have third or fourth infections, even within this year, researchers said in interviews. And some small fraction may have symptoms that persist for months or years,

"It seems likely to me that that’s going to sort of be a long-term pattern,” said Juliet Pulliam, an epidemiologist at Stellenbosch University in South Africa. “The virus is going to keep evolving,” she added. “And there are probably going to be a lot of people getting many, many reinfections throughout their lives.”

What is a vaccine and why did the definition change?

I noticed the second booster isn't being pushed--my doctor says it's optional and the protection seems to be slight.

Here's how the definition has changed, yet many of us older (than 30) people still think of immunity rather than just less severe disease.  Notice the word "protecting" has disappeared as has "produce immunity."

We Bruces got the Pfizer version in February 2021 with great excitement, relief, and awe at the incredible system our local health systems had established in the such a short time.  It was touted, as I recall, at about 90% or higher, had by fall had dropped to 16%.

Vaccine: A product that stimulates a person’s immune system to produce immunity to a specific disease, protecting the person from that disease. Vaccines are usually administered through needle injections, but can also be administered by mouth or sprayed into the nose.

Truckers or the ladies in pink hats or the J-6 rioters: who is a bigger threat?

The truckers are 90% vaxxed as are most of the people supporting them. This has gone way beyond the vaccine. So now you hear all the media and political lies about Confederate flags, racism, and insurrections. I’m vaxxed too, although losing faith in it daily. Today I learned that a friend of mine who is vaxxed and boosted, has had Covid twice, which means she also has natural immunity, and she is extremely sick. (She also works with animals, and increasingly we see items about them being vectors). I have another friend who has had cancer, heart surgery, and hepatitis flares before 2020 when Covid started—she’s now had her fourth shot, which means they are rolling that out for the extremely immune compromised and we’ll all be next. She’s now having many incidents of A-fib, a known hazard/outcome for the vaccine. She’s 65, and in precarious health. I’m sure she decided to take the risk, but others should have that choice too without having their lives destroyed by the media and government. Also, although there are required vaccines in many places, there have been exemptions in the past, and also there definitely should be health exemptions, like young men with heart problems should be able to decide their risk. They know the natural immunity is real, they know there are test for natural antibodies, so why are the refusing to consider it. There are many things to protest. As in the 16th century. It's why millions of Christians are called "Protestants."

And it’s possible for 8,000 truckers to stop a government, but not a few hundred yahoos, unarmed in silly costumes. This “insurrection” and “take over the government” meme is just pandering to the worst sort of Democrats, the totally unhinged ones. Half a million women in pink hats on Trump’s inauguration day milling around and screaming in DC were far scarier.

Why are effective therapeutics denied in the USA?

The charts below are the COVID case and death count as reported by the World Health Organization for India and the United States. The WHO is certainly not an Alt Right, anti-VAX, conspiracy theory organization. The first graph shows reporting for India, the second is the good old USA. You may need to click on the image and expand it to see the full graph for the United States.

India was in the news daily in April of 2021 because of a sharp spike in cases and deaths. You can see the spike clearly on the India graph. Then in early May 2021 you can see a sharp reversal of trend followed by a steady decline to nearly no new cases in December for India. On the USA graph you can see a less radical ebb and flow of cases and deaths but since the Summer of 2021 you will notice a steady increase in both cases and deaths culminating in a sharp increase in cases and somewhat less sharp increase in deaths from late 2021 to present. In contrast India had nearly no new cases or deaths in the summer and fall of 2021 and only recently has had a spike in cases but the death count is remaining flat for India.

So, you may be wondering what happened in India in late April and early May of 2021. Well, India decided to ignore WHO guidance and began a massive program to treat COVID with a cocktail of drugs which included Hydroxychloroquine and Ivermectin. They have also been using these drugs as a preventative for COVID. The results cannot be denied. The numbers tell the truth. You may argue that these results do not prove causation but hopefully you will agree they justify giving these drugs a chance here in our land.

In the USA and around the world there has been a concerted effort to deny the usefulness of Hydroxychloroquine and Ivermectin for` treatment of COVID. Doctors in the USA are being threatened with loss of license to practice medicine if they prescribe these drugs for COVID. Social media and legacy media are censoring affirming information for these drugs. If you Google Hydroxychloroquine or Ivermectin the first page of results will all be articles in opposition to these drugs, containing many lies I will add. They are saying that use of these drugs is unsafe but both drugs are on the WHO Model List of Essential Medicines for Children – 8th List (2021). Both are approved for off label use a further indication that they are safe. If you post articles affirming the effectiveness of these drugs on Facebook, YouTube or Twitter you will be censored, and your posting will be pulled down. You have to search for it to find it as I have done with these WHO graphs.

The question we need to be asking is, why is there such organized opposition to safe drugs which may be effective in treating COVID? Ask your doctor now if he/she will prescribe Hydroxychloroquine or Ivermectin for treatment of COVID if you should come down with the disease. If their answer is no find a different doctor with the courage to do the right thing regardless of the threats. If we follow India's lead, we can beat this disease.

The failures of fighting this virus

The lockdowns failed, the masks failed, the social distancing failed--the mandates have caused ruined careers, open rebellion among unions and trades, a lost 2 years of schooling for the most vulnerable, terrible supply chain problems, and we have more Covid deaths than in 2020 when we had no vaccine. Treatments with inexpensive and safe products have been ridiculed and kept off the market, Big Pharma and Big Tech are acting like departments of government, censoring us. Dr. Fauci is still acting like the mini-god of SCIENCE and Biden walks around mumbling conflicting advice and demands. What a way to ruin a country. Almost like it has central planning like Russia or Venezuela or Cuba.

Dennis Prager had Covid

Why would Washington Post care if Dennis Prager had Covid? WaPo published a long article on him when he announced he had Covid. It's not like people who have had the shot haven't gotten Covid, or died of Covid, nor that younger men haven't gotten myocarditis and pericarditis just from the shot. [see VAERS; it's an alarming number compared to other vaccines] He was sick a few days, and was back on the radio at work in 3 days despite being in the dangerous age group (and I might say, overweight, another of the co-morbidities).

 
Of course, that's a rhetorical question (needs no answer because it's obvious). It's a leftist newspaper, with staff who hated Trump (who got the vaccines on the market), and fights anything like Ivermectin and HCQ (recommended by Trump) that Big Pharma can't make a buck from because they are safe and easily available. Nor does it report anything negative about border jumpers who come in without a vaccine.

I've always been puzzled that a private business like a newspaper dependent on advertising (capitalism) would support Democrats, although that's also easy. They spend huge amounts lobbying for tax and business benefits. Essentially, Jeff Bezos, the owner of WaPo, is like a shadow government official. That way government can't control business, which is the way Conservatives would run government. Huge corporations like Amazon and Microsoft or Pfizer like higher taxes because they hurt the smaller business which might be competition in the future. It's like early abortions being less messy and easier than late term. Nip it in the bud, so to speak. Also, they can just move business off-shore. They can be smug and self-righteous about climate change or building codes or their daughters sharing bathrooms with boys because they'll never face the problem.

Big reveal for Pfizer

Two bombshells this week about Pfizer. 1) Researchers admit natural immunity is better, and 2) Yes, fetal cells were used by Pfizer and they chose not to reveal it (to better compete), and lied to the various bioethics commissions. Meanwhile, Biden is not excusing those with conscientious objections. Add this to the whistle blowers in HHS revealing heart problems and the gaslighting by the media calling millions of people paranoid conspiracy theorists, and we have a HUGE mess. And yes, it was undercover research that revealed their lies to the American public and the churches.

Remember the Henrietta Lacks story, and the Tuskegee syphillis scandal? Do our "investigative" reporters only wake up when the trust of black citizens is violated?

 
Adult stem cells and cord blood stem cells do not raise special ethical concerns and are widely used in research and clinical care. President Bush stopped new embryonic cell lines from being developed with government money (did not affect privately funded research), but Obama jump started embryonic stem cell research I think during his first week in office. A huge difference in the characters of the two presidents.

Much of the income from Planned Parenthood is from selling baby parts--hearts, livers, scalps, eyeballs, etc.--for research.

Who trusts government when Biden is in charge?

I was reading through the comments of yet another expert, Dr. Michael Osterholm, an epidemiologist and director of the Center for Infectious Disease Research and Policy at the University of Minnesota. Virus Expert Just Issued This "Sobering" Warning (yahoo.com)  He is baffled by 2 things--the fast increase in cases among children, and the distrust of the government mandates. I have no idea either why it is increasing among children, but have an opinion on the federal mandates.

 
During the Trump administration, the media and "experts" were insulting and lying about him, and his supporters. Trump supporters were called deplorable racists, white supremacists and stupid. That transfers to the entire country. You can't expect a complete turn around when for four years Democrats have been telling people they can NOT trust the government! The flip flopping by Dr. Fauci, who after all did advise Trump as well as Biden, has been stunning.

 
The mismanagement at the border and the disaster in Afghanistan certainly haven't caused Americans, even Democrats, to trust Joe Biden! Renaming "infrastructure" and slapping a $3.5 trillion bill (our money) to build up the Democrat party doesn't help. Saying Climate Change is the no. one problem when other things are more pressing and more difficult is also a terrible mark against federal mandates. That ill will that Democrats have seeded for years is bearing fruit, and it just may be costing lives. It's bleeding into the minds and hearts of the American people.

Censorship by Big Tech

"Democrats and their media buddies continue to blame Republicans for hesitancy to get the jab. Yet they were the ones sowing seeds of doubt about it when Trump was president--not because of science, but because of hate and they wanted to defeat him in the election. 

Also there are two groups that are always featured in low vaccination rates--1) blacks, and 2) health care workers. Democrats love to depict Republicans as knuckle dragging idiots who don't understand science. So what does that say about how Democrats think about blacks and health care workers?"

So, Facebook follows that up with a warning or suggestion about how to find information on the virus or vaccine.

Whether I use Johns Hopkins, Cleveland Clinic, WHO or CDC data, the geniuses at FB use algorithms that flag, target and demote my posts and comments so few will see them. Big Tech in collusion with the Democrat party is denying us access to information.

Patent protection

Is Biden discouraging patent protection? "The announcement that the United States might waive intellectual property rights could stymie the discovery and deployment of new vaccines; returning us to the same vulnerable position we occupied in the closing days of 2019. All the wiser and yet, somehow, not. While I remain firmly in the camp that the patent system needs to be updated and reformed, we must appreciate that patents do indeed provide an incentive for innovation."

Christian doctors discuss Covid19

The "Doctor doctor" program on EWTN broadcast May 15 a discussion of May 11 (before the latest CDC announcement) with 2 doctors, one in Portland, OR and one in Fargo, North Dakota.

Learned that 84% of those most vulnerable (over 65) have at least one of the shots, and 71% are fully vaccinated. They answer most of your questions, although for some there's no answer right now. This is a Christian, and medical perspective, not political. Interesting discussion also of "long Covid," and the value of vaccinating teens.

I went to the gym and then the local grocery store this morning, and neither is requiring masks.

Racism rears its ugly head again--teachers and elderly are TOO white

 It's a form of eugenics.

After 9 months of preaching "science" at us (unless it was a therapeutic the President recommended then it wasn't science, it was hate that came to the fore), our national health plan is now to NOT vaccinate seniors after the hospital workers, but to use race as the criteria.  Blacks are not less healthy because of their race; it's their lifestyle.  Fewer children raised with married parents, more obesity, more life style diseases, poor diets (by choice), and higher crime rates. It's not racist to use medical science instead of social change goals.  

Those woke goals have never been shown to improve the health and welfare of minorities.  This pandemic and the leftist goals behind the plan to close down the economy, shut down the best chance minorities have had in my lifetime to achieve, thrive and excel--the Trump economy. The Left is terrified that minorities will get ahead--they could lose the lock on their vote.  It would take a few months for  them to get to me because there are a lot of logistics to get people convinced and lined up.  I prefer to get the vaccine after a few bugs are worked out.  But minorities are already very reluctant.  I watched Dr. Varon of Houston on Newmax this morning, and he said about 50% of his healthcare workers do NOT plan to get the vaccine. At Houston Hospital, Head Of COVID-19 Unit Sees Some Staff Wary Of A Vaccine : NPR  When asked why, he said most of them are black and Latinx, and because of a history of racism in the 1950s and 1960s, they are suspicious of being a guinea pig.  Add to that the number of educated, wealthy, crunchies who are anti-vaxxers anyway, and you can see we've got a problem. 

 Our medical ethics swamp has decided the elderly are "too white." But their own history (which includes Medicaid and Obamacare) has made minorities suspicious and reluctant to trust their own industry.  Add to that the critical race theory that is invading every level of education, all the non-profits and the corporations, plus many churches, plus four years of demeaning the President who got the Warp Speed program going in record time, and we've got a full fledge mess on our hands. Minority health care workers are also more suspicious of Trump (wonder whose fault that is--Gov. Cuomo and Gov. Newsom and MSM have continually laid a foundation of doubt that this vaccine could be safe). 

Harald Schmidt, an expert in ethics and health policy at the University of Pennsylvania, says because older people are whiter, this will "level the playing field." What? Kill off granny in the nursing home so a Walmart stocker who because of youth isn't at risk can be first in line? Does that make sense? If this is "ethics" is suspiciously pre 20th century. And teachers are too white? Democrats/liberals/progressives definitely plan to keep the schools on lockdown and destroy another generation of black children who are already being short changed.

The big day is here

Today, December 14,  the electors of each state cast their vote in the Electoral College, that much hated, peculiar entity that elects the President. An amazing invention so that 47 states aren't ignored and that even the little guy gets representation. It's also the day the vaccine that our President fought, badgered, and bullied for to get it out in record time to defeat the virus is being administered. The Democrats will always ignore this, because they could have never done it and they know they weaponized it at our expense to defeat the man who had exposed them (both parties). No matter how the vote goes with the Electoral College, we know Trump has been the winner in both the election and the vaccine. I will be in line when it comes to the elderly in Ohio, and I'll whisper, "Thank you, President Trump. You have triumphed."

Musings and opinions

A former in-law writes: “The Hunt Club tavern is still packing them in at its small location. I get pissed every time we go by it.”

Yes, it’s too bad when people can still go to bars, but not to church. However, this whole lockdown would have made more sense if it involved keeping people our age at home—we are the people with age, heart conditions, lung problems, obesity, diabetes, etc. If you were out and about, I hope there was a good reason, and that no one could have done that errand for you.

The good news is that although cases are on the increase, the fatalities are below 1%, which means that those getting Covid now are much better off with the newer treatments and more knowledge that those who got it in March and April. Our president has been successful and cut about 15 years off the approval schedule for a new drug that should be delivered to health care workers in early December. We will still have people who fear vaccines, but hopefully we’ll have more herd immunity besides that which we’ve developed through the spread of the disease. 95-99% success for a vaccine is unheard of. Let’s see if it works that well on the general public. Every media outlet will announce every side effect, or death with anxious faces and whispers, when they never paid attention to flu deaths, or shingles side effects, or falls among the elderly. They may even demand on Twitterverse that immunizations stop until NO ONE has any side effects, although if Biden takes office in January, those alarm bells will stop so the end of the pandemic can be attributed to him.

Albert Sabin letter in my file

I'm sure I've done this several times in the last 20 years (since I retired)--condensing and throwing away files, especially those related to work. Now I'm into personal things. Considering the news about the vaccines, it was interesting to find a copy of a letter I wrote in 1983 to Dr. Albert Sabin who developed the oral polio vaccine which was much easier for school children. (I had the Salk vaccine given at school).

"I will always be grateful that as a parent I didn't have to go through the worry my parents' generation suffered. In 1949, my cousin Jimmy died of polio and 3 weeks later my sister became ill with polio. Although she lived, now in middle age she is suffering many after affects of deterioration.

Thank you for your contribution to the health of the world."

I had seen a newspaper column by Bob Greene who reported that Dr. Sabin was paralyzed in a lot of pain and unable to walk and was confined to a hospital bed at the National Institutes of Health. Green thought letters from the public could cheer the 77 year old.

Maybe it worked, because he lived another decade. I read a NYT obituary for him today and was surprised to see many parallels to other viral diseases, and how he continued to work on this problem. He also worked on Sandfly fever, dengue fever, toxoplasmosis and encephalitis. He and Dr. Salk (credited for the polio vaccine injection with booster shots) had a rivalry.

He denounced the Federal policy of vaccinating all adults against the Swine flu virus in 1976, which bore a strong chemical resemblance to the virus of 1918-1919. He spoke the truth as he saw it without diplomatic considerations and thus many government doors were closed to him even though he was a hero.

Is the vaccine ready?

Good news on the vaccine—Pfizer --and the markets are responding. Although I wouldn't be surprised if some powerful Democrat CEO in the company didn't arrange for the news to come out after the election (yes, a conspiracy theory that is completely understandable). It's easier than digging up dead voters. Democrats don't care about life issues, so yes, even if they killed more people. This is Trump's legacy--cutting through the red tape and getting some reform in fusty musty departments buried in the muck of the deep swamp.
