Glenn Beck’s series on the geo-political threat of Russia

Glenn Beck did part 2 of his Russian series tonight discussing the history of Russia going back a thousand years up to the role of Alexandr Dugin, a Putin adviser, and the alliance with various anti-liberal and liberal groups. For example, disgustingly anti-gay (to suck up to the family values Christians), but also vigorously anti-fracking (because Russia is the source of energy for all of Europe). It's a very confusing hodge podge to reinstate the 5th column the Communists lost in the U.S. But the U.S. is the enemy--it must be destroyed. He sees Putin manipulating the Orthodox church to gain power. During Soviet times, Russians were relocated all over the empire (usually as political punishment) and now is using their residency in those countries as excuses to take back those countries.  For instance, ethnic Russians living in Ukraine, Crimea, Uzbekistan or Belarus.

Does this guy look like Rasputin (crazy faith healer and spiritual adviser to the czarina) on purpose? Putin has found a role for the Orthodox Church, but just keep in mind, monarchs, kings, czars, presidents and Imans know how to use religious people.

http://www.glennbeck.com/2015/01/13/the-root-of-the-problem-russia-part-1-2/

Putin had this to say regarding Ukraine/Crimea during his recent state of the union address:

“For Russia, Crimea, ancient Korsun, Chersonesos, Sevastopol have a great civilization and sacred significance – as well as the Temple Mount in Jerusalem for those who profess Islam and Judaism. That is how we are going to treat this. Now and forever. ”

Peter the Great said it and Putin/Dugin are saying it now. They see Russia as the “Third Rome”. Ukraine and Crimea are their holy sites. The significance of such traced back to the Apostle Andrew. Vladimir I was baptised there making Kievan Rus’ a Christian state. They’re going to defend and struggle for it as if it were the Vatican or the Temple Mount.

NALC will be at the March for Life, January 22

The North American Lutheran Church (Canada, U.S. and Mexico synod) is planning to participate in the 2015 March for Life, Thursday, January 22, 2015, in Washington, DC, the 42nd anniversary of the Supreme Court's Roe v. Wade decision which made abortion legal in all 50 states. For more information contact Pastor Dennis Di Mauro of Trinity Lutheran in Warrenton, VA, dennisdimauro@yahoo.com. This is always an inspiring event to watch—they look so cold-- but I think EWTN is the only channel that covers it.

It’s been 10 years since they killed Terri Schiavo

This story about a young man who comes out of a coma 12 years later  brings to mind the Terri Schiavo story of 10 ears ago. She was dehydrated to death. Her autopsy report showed no illness, a strong heart and lungs, and she even had loving parents who were willing to take her home and care for her. But her husband didn't want her, had started a 2nd family, and had already spent all the money he'd won for her care in a law suit. Dehydration is a terribly painful way to die, unlike starvation, and she could still feel pain.

“Yes, I was there, not from the very beginning, but about two years into my vegetative state, I began to wake up. I was aware of everything, just like any normal person,” Pistorious, now 39, recalled to NPR. “Everyone was so used to me not being there that they didn’t notice when I began to be present again. The stark reality hit me that I was going to spend the rest of my life like that — totally alone.”

University of Virginia fraternity cleared; Rolling Stone and President Sullivan still guilty until they try to make things right

The fraternity accused of gang rape in the irresponsible Rolling Stone article has been cleared by the Charlottesville Police Department of wrongdoing and has been reinstated by the University of Virginia.

If Teresa Sullivan UVA president doesn't apologize, she'll make women administrators look like knee jerk jerks. She is supposed to be president of all the students and faculty, not just special interests.

I’m a kafir, a gentile, and a Christian

A person who is not a Muslim is a kafir. I'm thinking the equivalent word for not a Christian is an unbeliever (if Christians are speaking), or gentile for those who aren't Jews. All groups probably have such a term for those outside the faith. It's OK  for Muslims to lie to kafirs . To us the rules of a peaceful religion don't apply.

 http://www.clarionproject.org/node/3320

Here’s another word that doesn’t mean what we think.  “World peace” means total submission to Allah, after submitting to Sharia, so they don't consider it lying when they say they are a "religion of peace." (GWB got this very wrong.) The problem is Islam means "submission," and that's not exactly how we see it .

“Freedom and justice” also mean something different (even as with leftists and Marxists). Justice is according to Sharia, and has nothing to do with God's justice, or the laws of justice of our country. And human rights can only be defined by Sharia.

Boko Haram means “Western Education is Forbidden,” but it’s real name is  Jama’atu Ahlis Sunna Lidda’awati wal-Jihad, which means “People Committed to the Propagation of the Prophet’s Teachings and Jihad.” Members are known to reference the Islamic verse that states, “Anyone who is not governed by what Allah has revealed is among the transgressors.”  Are we being culturally sensitive when we refuse to believe them?

Our precious freedom of speech and religion

"An idea isn’t a human being. Neither is a sacred cow. And those who confront, dismiss, debunk, sneer at and fear them aren’t necessarily bigots." [David Harsanyi.] Debating marriage isn't homophobia. Examining crime statistics isn't racist. Looking at choices women make about employment isn't sexist. Saving unborn babies by closing unsanitary abortion mills isn't dismantling women's "health care." But the media and the federal and state governments are closing in on free speech, regulating everything we can say and think.

A tenured professor at a Catholic University is not allowed on campus pending firing because he questioned the silencing of a student who wanted to present the case for traditional marriage, i.e., the Catholic teaching. In Ohio a librarian was fired for suggesting in an e-mail discussion group of faculty, a conservative title as a possibility for a reading list. Discussing black crime is not about socio-economic conditions. That doesn’t cause the high murder rate in black communities--that's an insult to all the honest low income, law abiding people. Every abortion mill that is closed is greeted by the death squad as awful and eliminating choice and pro-lifers are villified.

Even 20 years ago, a well known, tenured professor in another state at a top flight school who was helping me with some of my research was forced out of his position because he wouldn't teach 3rd rate feminist drivel in his English classes, which the women's cabal wanted substituted for classic English and American authors. His department denied him grants, teaching assistants and an office since there was no reason to fire him because he defended his right to teach and his students' right to have the best. He eventually found a job in a branch of a university in another state, and has rebuilt his career, but you have no idea the amount of hate and power on the other side. This man prided himself in being a liberal and progressive, a loyal Democrat, but it just wasn't enough for radical feminists. We see the same coming at us in the form of closing small bakeries and florists, and the churches will be next, as they already are in Canada.

Billy Ireland Cartoon Library and Museum—Conestoga trip

Today our Conestoga group had a tour of the Billy Ireland Cartoon Library and Museum in Sullivant Hall on the OSU Campus.  I like libraries and I like art, so I was in “hog heaven.” The building is beautiful, and the “back room” peek at the moving stacks, specially designed boxes and equipment, was amazing.  It is open 1-5 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday and is open to the public if you’d like to visit.  None of the books circulate.

The current show is "King of the comics: William Randolph Hearst and 100 years of King Features." It will be on display until March 15. Hearst bought the New York Journal in 1895 and soon dropped the price of a paper to a penny, increasing circulation 7x. When the competition collapsed, he hired their people including the best cartoonist. Soon he was shipping the Sunday comic section to other cities with his comic characters becoming national celebrities. The display is divided by decade, and anyone my age will remember a lot of these. Although some I know only from a book of cartoons my mother had from the 1940s.  It is my opinion that after the 50s, the quality of the drawings became less complex--but this is an art form about which I know nothing. But at 5 pm I sure know more than I knew at 2 pm. The Billy Ireland Cartoon Library and Museum is the largest cartoon library in the world. I think the building opened in late 2013 and is really magnificent--before that it was in the Wexner Center.

Converted by Catherine Adair, former Planned Parenthood staff

After an abortion at a young age, Catherine Adair worked for Planned Parenthood, the nation's largest abortion provider. But what she saw behind the abortion clinic's doors made her quit the industry and later become a pro-life advocate.  But it didn’t happen immediately—first she came back to church. First she needed forgiveness.

“People who say they re pro-choice never have to face their victims.

There is so much love in the pro-life movement.  There’s not much on the other side—it’s all about me, me, me.”

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wncJ7uZz3tE

On September 22, 2012, the Pro-Life Action League gathered eight former abortion workers in Chicago, Illinois, to share the stories of how they left the abortion industry and became advocates for life.

What does Islam mean? “Voluntary submission to God”

I suppose if you snoped every sentence, you might find something wrong, however, I remember most of these stories from the news, and I've been really inconvenienced at airports around the world because of many of these. I've seen the photos of the dead children. Also, I've been to Israel where Muslims have more freedom and wealth than just about anywhere in the middle east.

John Quincy Adams on Islam

"In the seventh century of the Christian era, a wandering Arab of the lineage of Hagar, the Egyptian, combining the powers of transcendent genius, with the preternatural energy of a fanatic, and the fraudulent spirit of an impostor, proclaimed himself as a messenger from Heaven, and spread desolation and delusion over an extensive portion of the earth. Adopting from the sublime conception of the Mosaic law, the doctrine of one omnipotent God; he connected indissolubly with it, the audacious falsehood, that he was himself his prophet and apostle. Adopting from the new Revelation of Jesus, the faith and hope of immortal life, and of future retribution, he humbled it to the dust, by adapting all the rewards and sanctions of his religion to the gratification of the sexual passion. He poisoned the sources of human felicity at the fountain, by degrading the condition of the female sex, and the allowance of polygamy; and he declared undistinguishing and exterminating war, as a part of his religion, against all the rest of mankind. THE ESSENCE OF HIS DOCTRINE WAS VIOLENCE AND LUST: TO EXALT THE BRUTAL OVER THE SPIRITUAL PART OF HUMAN NATURE." John Quincy Adams The American Annual Register for the Years 1827-8-9 (New York: E. & G.W. Blunt), 29:267-402 posted at Apologetics Press, http://www.apologeticspress.org/apcontent.aspx?category=7&article=1142

Thomas Jefferson and the Musselmen [Muslims]

Our first encounter as a nation with Muslims was when we were very weak. Appeasement and paying ransom for our sailors.  What's the excuse now?

"In March 1785, when Jefferson was Ambassador to France and John Adams was Ambassador to Great Britain, the two met in London with Sidi Haji Abdul Rahman Adja, the Ambassador to Britain from Tripoli.  The Barbary Pirates had captured American merchant ships and had imprisoned their passengers and crew.  Not yet having a strong navy, the Congress wanted to negotiate a fair tribute as a way to appease the pirates.

Jefferson and Adams were eager to know how the Barbary States could claim the right of piracy against peaceful American merchant vessels.   Jefferson wrote that, in the ambassador’s view, according to the Koran, “all Nations who should not have acknowledged their authority were sinners, that it was their right and duty to make war upon whoever they could find and to make Slaves of all they could take as prisoners, and that every Mussulman [Muslim] who should be slain in battle was sure to go to Paradise.” . . .By 1800, the annual payments to piratic Muslim states were almost one million dollars a year, one fifth of the federal budget."

It won’t be long now

Porch Sitting Union of America's photo.

If you’re looking for a reason, don’t waste your time

“Cartoons did not start militant Islam’s fire. Neither did the Bushes, Israel, the Satanic Verses, the Pope, beauty pageants, KFC restaurants in the Middle East, Mohammed teddy bears, or a YouTube video.

The Religion of Perpetual Outrage hates all infidels for all reasons for all time. The targeting of Mohammed cartoonists is a convenient excuse to feed the eternal flame of Islamists’ hatred of the West. If it isn’t ca...rtoons, it’s always something else. The grudge is everlasting.

Instead of acknowledging their gutlessness in the face of Koran-inspired Muslim vigilantes, press pontificators cloak their fear in the mumbo-jumbo of “tolerance.” They demand that the rest of us to pledge fealty to their selective multi-culti sensitivities lest we be branded “Islamophobes.”"  Michelle Malkin

Freedom of speech in the United States?

The French are planning to have a free speech rally now that the Jihadis are dead (along with hostages and journalists). Wouldn't that be nice to have a free speech rally in the U.S., but probably only the Tea Party would do that, and then the left would call them terrorists.

A quarter of the 26,500 immigrants to Israel in 2014 were from France, where there is a growing violent anti-semitism. Until a crisis like we've seen in the last 2 days, the French government seems helpless. Along with other Europeans who have immigrated they say Europe seems dead, Israel seems alive. No sense trying for the U.S.--we're only welcoming illegals. https://www.commentarymagazine.com/…/zionist-dream-come-tr…/

In France you can't publish cartoons of the prophet Mohammed for public dissemination. In the U.S. you can't privately publish your beliefs about sex for personal use.

“This is not about religious freedom, this is not about free speech.” said the Mayor of Atlanta.  No, it never is when you object to homosexuality based on religious beliefs.  It’s just old fashioned leftist bigotry.

Yesterday it looked like the Paris police were all over this. Today, not so much. Now 2 hostage situations, and possibly 2 more dead. The NYPD once had the best counter terrorism force in our country--maybe the world. DeBlasio has dismantled it. Why? It could happen here. http://www.limitstogrowth.org/…/new-york-mayor-de-blasio-i…/

Teixobactin—this is good news

I love this stuff. God doesn't make junk. "Many of the most widely used antibiotics have come out of the dirt. Penicillin came from Penicillium, a fungus found in soil, and vancomycin came from a bacterium found in dirt. Now, researchers from Northeastern University and NovoBiotic Pharmaceuticals and their colleagues have identified a new Gram-positive bacteria-targeting antibiotic from a soil sample collected in Maine that can kill species including methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Moreover, the researchers have not yet found any bacteria that are resistant to the antibiotic, called teixobactin. Their results are published today (January 7) in Nature." Obama is campaigning again

The President is on the campaign trail for his legacy talking about the economic recovery. This recession recovery has been the slowest on record, and we're still 2 trillion behind where we should be if it had been a normal recovery (recession was over in June 2009). The middle class has gone without a raise for 7 years. The big boost to the economy in 2014 was increased health care spending, now that's something to cheer, and the wallet fattening lower gasoline prices caused by fracking which all his supporters hate. The fat cats are loving the stock market. The rosy economic picture he is painting could continue if Republicans show some backbone, or other body parts, and the Keystone Pipeline gets passed (he's already announced he's going to veto it after 6 years of study) and they stop all the crazy regulations that are holding business and growth back.

Some factors about longevity are about race, not poverty or education

Hispanics on average live 80.6 years, non-Hispanic whites 78.1 years and African Americans 72.9. More education can add as much as 10 years to the life expectancy of blacks and white; but for Hispanics, it doesn't seem to matter. A high school drop out will still live longer than an educated white or black American.

http://newamericamedia.org/2012/12/latino-life-expectancy-exploring-the-hispanic-paradox.php

A 25-year old Latino high school dropout in 2008 is likely to outlast both his African-American and white gender counterparts by ten years. Actually, he will probably fall about three years short of the estimated mortality demise of very highly educated white males.

Je Suis Charlie (I am Charlie)

I'm finding this a bit hypocritical coming from Americans. In this country, you can't speak in favor of a discussion on traditional marriage without losing your tenured faculty position at a Catholic university or your bakery business or floral shop, and God forbid if you're a chef who used the n-word two decades ago. And in Canada, you can be put in jail if you are against “full inclusion.” Yes, it's not the same as being murdered, but it's also not freedom of speech and religion.

Also, the murder of those French cartoonists who insulted religious people of all faiths was terrible, and coverage has been from sunrise to sundown, but Africans are dying too at the hands of Muslim terrorists. Much of Nigeria is, or was, Christian, but Muslims and Christians lived peacefully together until a few years ago. Boko Haram is killing and kidnapping, and after a brief flurry of media interest in the summer, we heard nothing.

Six things about Vitamin D, Harvard Medical School Health Beat

A number of factors influence a person’s vitamin D levels. Here are six important ones.

  1. Where you live. The further away from the Equator you live, the less vitamin D–producing UVB light reaches the earth’s surface during the winter. Residents of Boston, for example, make little if any of the vitamin from November through February. Short days and clothing that covers legs and arms also limit UVB exposure.

  2. Air quality. Carbon particles in the air from the burning of fossil fuels, wood, and other materials scatter and absorb UVB rays, diminishing vitamin D production. In contrast, ozone absorbs UVB radiation, so pollution-caused holes in the ozone layer could end up enhancing vitamin D levels.

  3. Use of sunscreen. Sunscreen prevents sunburn by blocking UVB light. Theoretically, that means sunscreen use lowers vitamin D levels. But as a practical matter, very few people put on enough sunscreen to block all UVB light, or they use sunscreen irregularly, so sunscreen’s effects on vitamin D might not be that important. An Australian study that’s often cited showed no difference in vitamin D between adults randomly assigned to use sunscreen one summer and those assigned a placebo cream.

  4. Skin color. Melanin is the substance in skin that makes it dark. It “competes” for UVB with the substance in the skin that kick-starts the body’s vitamin D production. As a result, dark-skinned people tend to require more UVB exposure than light-skinned people to generate the same amount of vitamin D.

  5. Weight. Body fat sops up vitamin D, so it’s been proposed that it might provide a vitamin D rainy-day fund: a source of the vitamin when intake is low or production is reduced. But studies have also shown that being obese is correlated with low vitamin D levels and that being overweight may affect the bioavailability of vitamin D.

  6. Age. Compared with younger people, older people have lower levels of the substance in the skin that UVB light converts into the vitamin D precursor. There’s also experimental evidence that older people are less efficient vitamin D producers than younger people.
