How to keep a woman poor—government entitlements

As the above chart – via Gary Alexander, Pennsylvania’s secretary of Public Welfare — shows, the single mom is better off earning gross income of $29,000 with $57,327 in net income and benefits than to earn gross income of $69,000 with net income & benefits of $57,045.

It would sure be tempting for that mom to keep the status quo rather than take the new job, even though the new position might lead to further career advancement and a higher standard of living. I guess this is something the Obama White House forgot to mention in its “Life of Julia” cartoons extolling government assistance.

But women are flocking to vote for Obama! Maybe we didn't deserve the vote?

I know plenty of young women who make from 20 to 50 thousand a year and manage to survive. They have kids, sometimes husbands, all kinds of situations. They are certainly not rich and they struggle from paycheck to paycheck. They do not look at themselves as poor or entitled or any of the stuff you say about them constantly. They just work and live their lives. They are to be commended even though they probably meet the criteria for being poor, they are not poor. No one is keeping them in poverty, certainly not the government that you blame. I also knew a girl who was on welfare, and her county was offering to pay her tuition. When she asked my advice, it was 'Do It". She did and has been for a long time a registered nurse. That welfare program gave her an opportunity to get an education, pay it all back in her increased tax rate and move on. What about safety net do you not understand?

I understand safety net quite well, and I would have given her the same advice. The Julia ad which this addresses, had a woman on benefits from cradle to grave. You know it's the truth but you continue to support a president to encourages it--other presidents have acknowledged it may be a necessity for some. This one makes it a way of life. And when you have no truth, no message, you can always correct my spelling.

Murray sez:
Anon #2 has it right. Obama is selling Charisma not any past accomplishments. The young think he's "cool" and have no idea of the freedoms they are losing and the huge debt bill they will be expected to pay. Women and the young need to shut off the TV and start looking under the covers.
