On line. Suggest some brand names, please, or store. It's been awhile. Dressy. Sleeves. Not short. Not straight. Not white or black. Size 8-10. $50 or under.
Do you have a Dress Barn in your neck of the woods? I've seen dresses like that there, and they are very reasonable. Also, Target, or T. J. Maxx or Kohls. I do a lot of looking, as opposed to actually buying.
That is so true. It was torture trying to find something to wear to a wedding this past weekend. That's another long story. Dress Barn things can look kind of cheap, though. I also look online - Overstock.com, even Ebay. Coldwater Creek has very good clearances. There's also a place called Travelsmith. I've found good basic things there and on sale they're not too bad. (It sounds like I shop all the time but really, I just look. My SIL is the big shopper & sends me all these links.)
The above were all from Chadwick's the only source where I could find a dress at the bottom of the knee. But they all have a "shaper slip" and the reviews of those are not good. Why wear a dress that allows you to move or dance, and then put up with a built in girdle?
Try Travelsmith. Their dresses are so practical and comfortable (although there's lots of black). They're a little over the $50 mark, but anything you get there will last for years.
Preferring truth to custom, the better to the good, adapt to adopt, reform to revolution, solutions to goals, knowledge to awareness, faith to spirituality. The rules.

We used to have a Dress Barn--not sure any more. A lot of stores don't carry dresses anymore--just separates.

I love to buy Coldwater Creek brands at the resale shop, but have to shorten them about 4 inches.

I saw the bright green one, or something just like it, on a young brunette today--she was about a size 20, but it looked good.
