What's on the news? Sex.

TV is running behind me in my office. Nothing about what Hillary is doing to destroy the country. Can't stand any more "news" about Trump ravishing women without their consent, so I click through a few channels--soap operas using some very explicit language that wasn't allowed the last time I saw one, Paternity Court, also sexually explicit euphemisms, probably if I kept it on I could find Jerry Springer, former Democratic mayor of Cincinnati, or Divorce Court, or Judge Judy, or Judge Mathis, all reporting sleeping around, or having sex with his girl friend's mother, or a guy with 8 baby mamas and behind in his support. I don't know if these are the deplorables or the Democrats. Guess I'll listen to the archived radio I enjoy.

Lebron James says guys don't talk like that [Trump] in locker rooms. I think he's a fabulous athlete, a great philanthropist, and did (finally) marry the mother of his children. But what's the image of him on the cover of Vogue? And what about all those athletes bragging about their baby mamas? Do they just speak quietly and respectfully of them behind their backs in the locker room?

It's odd that the party that tells us biological sex doesn't matter, concern for our privacy in bathrooms is a transphobic insult, and pronouns must be changed in churches that host outside events, all of a sudden are having the vapors over sexual banter and talking dirty--but only from men, not loopy women in bars or on Facebook. Sounding strangely phony and political.

Recovery from the death of a beloved pet

I packed up all Lotsa Spotsa's kitty things (our calico who died Monday) with her cat food and litter in a big shopping bag and looked up the address of Cat Welfare where we found her in 1999 to donate them. Stopped to browse the adoptable cats--female, adult, small, colorful, friendly. Big mistake. Maybe I'd better wait awhile.

But I did have to laugh at this story on the website about a successful placement:
"We lost George, our 17-year-old cat, at the end of June 2015. He was such a good friend and companion that we knew we could not replace him for a long, long time. And when we did, we knew we'd replace him with another calm, older cat. We waited eight days. Then we adopted these three goofy kittens. They were tiny when we got them, however, they have grown into their current collective nickname, "The Fatties." They shed too much and stink fairly often and destroy most everything but they are big, happy healthy girls -- sisters -- who we love to pieces and we couldn't imagine life without them. George would be appalled but, on some level, would probably grudgingly approve."

Cancer relapse in a child, a mom's account

I've been following Lily's story for years.  Her grandmother Carol is a blogger friend--her whole family, the Shaws, blog.  Recently, Lily relapsed after over 5 years in remission (she's 15 and  active in sports and doing teenager things, with tickets and hoping to see Adele). This is very rare after 5 years in remission. This was written by her mother, who posts on Facebook.
Well, not to sound like a 13 year old but today has SUCKED!!! It started out fine. Lily and I walked some and she did homework. Then she and I tossed the volleyball around which was fun.

Then she got her chemo. PEG - L- Asparaginase. Earlier this morning the doctor had gone through all the possible side effects especially the risk for anaphylaxis (that is where you have an severe allergic reaction to the point the airways swell making it where you can't breathe). We weren't expecting any reactions since she had a couple PEG doses last time she was in treatment and one two weeks ago. However he warned sometimes they see reactions after a lot of doses.

They started the chemo around 12:30 and within 20 mins I noticed a rash and she was coughing a little. Then literally in a matter of minutes it was a true medical emergency. Doctors and nurses literally came out of the woodwork it seemed. It was extremely scary. She was gasping for breath and couldn't feel her legs and arms. She couldn't talk. They were finally able to get her breathing clearly again after high dose IV Benadryl, Epi and hydrocortisone through her port. She is already on high dose steroids as a chemo so that also helps. She has rested and not felt great the remainder of the day. Not only is the medicine making her feel bad but it was also terrifying. This evening she started having a rash and some heaviness in her chest again so they are continuing with the Benadryl and watching her really closely.

So she won't be able to take that chemo. There is another chemo they will give in its place. The downside is instead of one dose it requires 6 doses. They don't feel she got much of today's dose so they will repeat the entire dose of the other chemo. In order to make up for this dose she will have the other chemo now Friday, next Mon, Wed and Fri and the next Monday and Wednesday. PEG is a regular part of treatment so we will have to do two weeks of three times of week for every dose of PEG she should have gotten from here on out. Complicated however worth it not to have a similar incident.

So they have said we are definitely here until next Monday and then they will reevaluate possibly letting her leave as long as she doesn't have any additional reactions and her blood counts start to recover.

Also, today we found out definitely that she won't be able to go to the Adele concert. Phillip had bought tickets for my birthday back in December for the girls and I--so sweet. We have known since we found out Lily relapsed it would be extremely difficult for her to be able to go, however we were holding out hope that her counts would start to recover and we could maybe get an exception with a mask (we have suite tickets). However, today Dr. Friedman said she didn't think there was anyway we could pull it off. I think we all knew that would be what happened however I had prayed her counts would recover so we could pull it off. We have looked forward to it so much. So I think Phillip is going to take Sophie and maybe a friend and Lily and I are going to listen to Adele's album in her room. However, it was yet another blow of something she would miss out on due to this.

So that is about it. Oh, steroids have kicked in big time in addition to the meds today, so its a hungry, sad, angry time (cancer moms know what I mean). Needless to say Cancer SUCKS!!!!!!

Keep an eye on your investments.

Small groups of anti-first amendment activists are doing the same thing they did to our churches. Chip, chip chip until the foundation is completely undermined. This concerns Procter and Gamble, but they'll be back.

"However, spurned by activist investors, a dishonest press and liberal executives, the anti-religious movement is growing in America and threatening the liberty of millions. Muslim, Jewish, Christian and other religious investors... and citizens should take notice. Many major American corporations are working with liberal activists to severely limit your ability to freely practice your religion. This is a well-funded, well-organized effort with many high-profile corporations such as Apple, Disney, Salesforce and the National Football League leading the charge. Today, we stopped Northstar Investment Management's attempt to have Procter & Gamble join in on this fervor, but much more work remains to be done."

"Northstar's proposal also attacked freedom of conscience and public accommodation laws. There is a growing pattern in which, after a conservative legislature or governor works to expand religious liberty protections, liberal activists team with major American companies to try to stifle these efforts," said Danhof. "Procter & Gamble's investors should be proud that they defeated Northstar's efforts to make the company another pawn of the left." Press release, National Center for Public Policy Research

Reading the small print of the party platforms--Rogue Agency

About that rogue agency Obama created which advances big banks (supporting Hillary): it should be abolished regardless of which party takes the White House. . .  p. 3 Republican Platform

"Community  banks  are  essential  to  ensuring small  businesses  have  easy  and  affordable  access to the capital they need to grow and prosper. Community banks should be relieved of excessive
regulations. We support removing roadblocks and regulations that prevent access to capital.

The  worst  of  Dodd-Frank  is  the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, deliberately designed to be a rogue agency. It answers to neither Congress nor the executive, has its own guaranteed funding
outside  the  appropriations  process,  and  uses  its  slush fund to steer settlements to politically favored groups.

Its Director has dictatorial powers unique in the American  Republic.  Its  regulatory  harassment  of local and regional banks, the source of most home mortgages  and  small  business  loans,  advantages big banks and makes it harder for Americans to buy a home. Its one-size-fits-all approach to every issue threatens the diversity of the country’s financial system and would leave us with just a few enormous institutions, as in many European countries.

If the Bureau is not abolished, it should be subjected to congressional appropriation. In that way, consumer protection in the financial markets can be advanced through measures that are both effective and  constitutional.  Any  settlements  arising  from  statutory violations by financial institutions must be used  to  make  whole  the  harmed  consumers,  with any remaining proceeds given to the general Treasury.  Diversion  of  settlement  funds  to  politically connected parties should be a criminal offense."

Why are you voting for Democrats?

Conservatives have a problem--moral relativism of liberals

"The problem for Conservatives is that they believe in morality and in recent days many conservatives found themselves in a gut-wrenching decision over whether to vote for or against Donald Trump. Individuals within the loop of moral relativism have no such problem. There may be one such person, but I have discovered no agony within the Hillary supporters.
  • Fifty million abortions? No problem!
  • 500 million dollars from the Federal Government to fund the new Nazis who run Planned Parenthood and sell off body parts? No problem!
  • Benghazi? No problem!
  • Releasing of terrorists from Gitmo? No problem!
  • Emptying the jails of individuals who produced and sold cocaine and heroin? No problem!
  • Hundreds of millions in cash delivered to Iran in the middle of the night for ransom? No problem!
  • Redefinition of marriage? No problem!
  • Transsexual bathroom directives from Obama? No problem!
  • No settlement of IRS harassment of Conservative groups? No problem!
  • Continued chaos and suicides of veterans in the VA? No problem!
  • Destruction of emails and servers by the Secretary of State? No problem!

When moral relativists in the Democratic Party demand that you do not vote for Trump, you have every right to make the same demand to the moral relativists to not vote for Clinton. If they, who do not believe in a moral universe, suddenly decide that there is such a thing; then, by all means use this fleeting opportunity to extract a pledge from them to not vote for Clinton."  Roland Lane

My first piano teacher

Hacked e-mails. Have you ever gotten an e-mail from someone with no subject, and just a link? I don't know where that link goes, but I don't click. I've had two this week. Today it was from Helena Patlak. Now, I do know a woman by that name and she died in 2012. When I was 8 and she was 16 and we lived in Forreston, IL she was my piano teacher (Helena Tinklenberg, daughter of the Reformed pastor and organist at his church). Some years ago through the magic of the internet I located her and said "Hi, how are you," and she probably responded, "Who are you?" and so I ended up in her address box, and six years later that is hacked. How does this work--who profits? Yesterday, I got a no subject line message from Win and Gracia with a link, missionaries from Alaska whose newsletters I used to get years ago.  I didn't click.

What gets a rich Democrat excited? Killing babies

Cecile Richards, president of Planned Parenthood, recently stated that she gets excited hearing about how and why women choose to get an abortion:

"For too many years, certainly for my generation, all issues about sex and sexuality were stigmatized. Abortion was, homosexuality was. And the exciting thing to me now is that young people are telling their stories and they are living out loud. More women are telling their abortion stories, and I told mine. I think once we get out of the shadows, and I think the LGBT movement has led the way in this, it normalizes what should be an open and honest conversation."

Where has she been?  I remember reading gay and feminist newsletters 40 years ago that were excited about being "open and honest," . . . and ghoulish.

She's one who already had three children and thought that was the perfect size for her family, so she aborted the fourth.  A full sibling of her other three.  They didn't get a vote; nor did the one she killed.

Capitalism is progressive, socialism is not

"The champions of socialism call themselves progressives, but they recommend a system which is characterized by rigid observance of routine and by a resistance to every kind of improvement. They call themselves liberals, but they are intent upon abolishing liberty. They call themselves democrats, but they yearn for dictatorship. They call themselves revolutionaries, but they want to make the government omnipotent. They promise the blessings of the Garden of Eden, but they plan to transform the world into a gigantic post office. Every man but one a subordinate clerk in a bureau, what an alluring utopia! What a noble cause to fight for!"
- Ludwig von Mises  https://mises.org/library/bureaucracy

When did Democrats get so prissy and delicate about smutty talk?

"Rap lyrics celebrate the assault of women all day long, and our pop stars twerk for the precise purpose of attracting lewd attention, and some of these artists are fêted at the White House and elsewhere as role models for young people. My friends—even some of my pious Christian friends—watch and celebrate Game of Thrones, which if I understand correctly, features graphic depictions of the demeaning of women and everyone else.

Bill Maher, hero to the Left (and likewise to some on the Right for his straight talk about Islam), has a foul mouth and celebrates his hanging out at the Playboy Mansion, where people are known to behave in the way Trump describes, and that is perfectly cool. Even Ann Coulter wants to be friends with him.

President Kennedy joked about his presidency being like a golf course; I will spare you the foul punch line if you don’t already know it. Senator Ted Kennedy was caught in flagrante delicto drunk and palming waitresses. Bill Clinton is a known sexual predator. Joe Biden has often been shown on camera being far too handsy with pretty women."

Why Clinton's media buddies focused on Trump all week-end

What's with this woman and putting people in containers like buckets and baskets? Does she have a refrigerated box for baby parts from the little ones who won't grow up to vote?

Here's what Secretary Clinton said about Bernie's supporters in a speech for Goldman Sachs. “This coalition, a collection of generally under-represented, low social capital individuals has become increasingly networked and increasingly motivated. This group that our analysts are calling the ((Makes air quotes)) bucket of losers could not only be a significant force in the next election but could, on an outside percentile, even win.”

Then for the older crowd: "In lucrative paid speeches that Hillary Clinton delivered to elite financial firms but refused to disclose to the public, she displayed an easy comfort with titans of business, embraced unfettered international trade and praised a budget-balancing plan that would have required cuts to Social Security, according to documents posted online Friday by WikiLeaks."

 http://www.nytimes.com/2016/10/08/us/politics/hillary-clinton-speeches-wikileaks.html?_r=0

You can see why her media buddies focused on Trump all week-end, instead of her leaked speeches.

What has Trump done? Internet meme

"Last night a friend claimed that Donald Trump wouldn’t make a good president; he is brash, he is racist, he is a loudmouth; you know the normal things people learn to recite after being programmed by television news. The one I loved was that, “Trump is arrogant.” My friend questioned if one man could make “that much difference in the world today.” To my friend's credit, she was respectful enough to let me respond when she asked, “Really, what has Trump done?”

I said, “In June of last year, Trump entered the race for president. In just a little over a year, Trump has single handedly defeated the Republican party. He did so thoroughly. In fact, he did so in such a resounding way that the Republican Party now suffers from an identity crisis. He literally dismantled the party. Trump even dismantled and dismissed the brand and value of the Bush family.

Trump has Obama petrified that Trump will dismiss programs that weren’t properly installed using proper law.

Trump has single handedly debunked and disemboweled any value of news media as we knew it—news now suffering from an all-time level of distrust and disrespect.

Trump has leaders from all over the world talking about him, whether good or bad. Trust me, powerful men who have been president before weren’t liked by the global community. I doubt Mikhail Gorbachev liked Reagan when Reagan said, "Tear down that wall."

Trump has expressly disclosed the fraud perpetrated on the American public by Hillary Clinton. He has, quite literally, brought Hillary to her knees—if you believe that nervous tension and disorders offer physical side effects and damage.

Trump has unified the silent majority in a way that should be patently frightening to “liberals.”

As the press accuses Trump of being a house of cards, Trump has proven the press is the real house of cards. He has whipped up the entire establishment into pure panic. Trump has exposed them for who they are and worse, what they are. George Clooney was right when he said Trump draws live news coverage of his podium that he’s not yet approached. Thanks, George, you were perfectly correct.

What we see as headline news today are actually the last bubbles from the ship that is now sunk—meaning the standard news media, as a propaganda machine, has been exposed. They have no more value.

In the same way Trump asked the African-American community this question, I asked my friend, ”At this point, what do you have to lose?” We have mass cop shootings, riots in our streets, ambushed cops, double digit inflation, bombs blowing up in our cities, targeted police, BLM, a skyrocketing jobless rate, no economic growth, privately owned land being seized by the federal government, the worst racial tension in my lifetime, no God in schools, more abortions than ever, illegal aliens pouring into our country, sick veterans receiving no care, and a debt that doubled in seven years to $19 trillion. Are you really happy with the condition of the current system?

One man has done all of this in one year—one guy, and on his own dime. And with everything I’ve written above, you believe Trump hasn't done anything? You claim that you are afraid of Donald Trump? No wonder we’re in trouble. You can say that Trump is a lousy presidential candidate. That’s your right. Just don’t ever say he’s not effective.

That Megan Kelly, FOX News, CNN, MSNBC, Washington Post, Rachel Maddow, the Huffington Post, the New York Times, Raleigh’s News and Observer, the AP, Don Lemon, Jake Tapper, and many more, failed to implement their collectively orchestrated lie on the American people against Trump, is actually a massive testament to Trump. The press colluded pure propaganda to accomplish his demise … and they have collectively failed and miserably.

Here's just one example of how badly America is injured right now. There are high school football players on their knees during the national anthem simply because the press used as propaganda to program those kids to do that very thing. But, these kids are mimicking NFL stars the same way the same kids chooses which brand of football shoe to purchase—they're overtly brain-washed to do that very thing.

Now, we have a generation of children who hate America.

America’s problem isn’t that little children are on their knee in collective disrespect of America. Our problem is that America is on her knee from collective disrespect by Americans.

You can disrespect America all you want. But, it’s high-time you respect the silent majority. Because they’re not simply the “silent majority” as you’ve been trained to believe when Hillary calls them “deplorables.” The fact is, they are simply the majority. And now they're no longer silent either. Donald Trump changed all of that, single-handedly and within one year.

What the Friday Wikileaks showed about Clinton

"If you were wondering if a Trump candidacy was any worry to Clinton, then wonder no more.

The hacked emails released by Wikileaks shows an interesting tidbit about how the Democrats looked at the idea of a Trump candidacy, and you can safely see that of all the candidates Hillary actively wanted to face, Trump was on the list.
...
Calling them the "pied piper" candidates, team Hillary describes Trump, Cruz, and Carson as nominees that could - if handled properly - make the extreme the mainstream.

"We need to be elevating the Pied Piper candidates so that they are leaders of the pack and tell the press to them seriously," it said in the email.

The summary is that the DNC and the Clinton campaign wanted Trump to be Hillary's opponent because they knew his extreme stances could be used to alienate and divide. They could then use these candidates to paint the Republican party as a whole as something dangerous.

Trump was a tool for Hillary's campaign all along. She wanted the press to take Trump seriously, put him up as the most viable option for Republicans, and the right took the bait, hook, line, and sinker. Now with the Trump campaign burning to the ground, and GOP leaders walking away due to his recent comments, the Clinton campaign's plan to put Hillary on top is coming to fruition.

In short, the Republicans have been played. Trump was a unknowing puppet for Hillary from the get-go, and the right - though some had very strong suspicions - didn't know it."

The phony outrage

Image may contain: 3 people
The American voter is so shocked and outraged by Trump's vulgar behavior. Not. What they pay to see.

"Without discounting the grossness of what Trump said 11 years ago, the protestations from the same class whom I have watched my entire sentient life deny the existence of the concept of obscenity (while injecting it into every sphere of public life) over his vulgarity do seem a bit, shall we say, rich. To put it another way, if you spend several decades undermining standards, traditions, and values, calling "Piss Christ" art, celebrating misogynist/vapid/degrading rap and pop "lyrics" as music, and promoting low reality/celebrity 'culture' as something to strive for, you're gonna get some side effects." – James Morrow

Has Nina Burleigh apologized to American women for saying disgusting things about us?

Did Nina Burleigh ever apologize for treating the President of the United States like a boy toy in a women's magazine?

"The president's foot lightly, and presumably accidentally, brushed mine once under the table," Burleigh writes. "His hand touched my wrist while he was dealing the cards. When I got up and shook his hand at the end of the game, his eyes wandered over to my bike-wrecked, naked legs. And slowly it dawned on me as I walked away: He found me attractive."

She adds: "I probably wore the mesmerized look I have seen again and again in women after they have met him. The same silly hypnotized gleam was displayed on the cover of Time magazine in Monica Lewinsky's eyes."

In an interview, Burleigh, now a New York freelancer, said she in no way felt harassed or pressured by the president but that it was "not unusual for women" to swoon over him. What is unusual, for a journalist, is Burleigh's sexually charged declaration of support for Clinton. "I'd be happy to give him [oral sex] just to thank him for keeping abortion legal," she said." Washington Post, July 6, 1998, quoting Mirabella magazine essay she wrote.

Her full quote, not used in that WaPo story: "I would be happy to give him a blowjob just to thank him for keeping abortion legal. I think American women should be lining up with their presidential kneepads on to show their gratitude for keeping the theocracy off our backs."

So, just as Hillary Clinton threw millions of women in a bucket as deplorable, this Time reporter wanted all American women to perform oral sex on the president. Who's more lewd--this obscure female journalist or the famous Donald Trump? Do you know any pro-life women who would prostitute themselves like this for a magazine article or even write such evil? Is that how to get published?

She got a lot of flack--after all it was 1998. But she wasn't very good at prophecy, claiming there would be no problem if a man had written about a woman.  'Wake up, ladies! Were we ever to get a female President, Pete Hamill or Norman Mailer would never be so savaged and maligned and ridiculed for writing about the woman’s charms. On the contrary. They would be paid a king’s ransom by Esquire for performing the service." http://observer.com/1998/07/my-spin-through-the-cycle/

Both Clintons should return to Haiti and shovel mud

Hillary Clinton failed Haiti as Secretary of State. Bill Clinton and the Clinton Foundation allowed their donors to do the rebuilding (U.S. tax dollars paid them) instead of those non-profits that had experience. They didn't listen to the Haitians about what they needed. To make way for the new industrial park the Clinton promoted as a "model," hundreds of farmers were removed from their land and given meager compensation in return. Many are now unemployed. The State Department and its partners said the park would create 65,000 jobs when fully operational.  Nearly four years later, there are just over 9,000 employees. Workers that Circa spoke with make the equivalent of $3.81 per day.

Friends of the Clintons made out like bandits. The Haitian people still suffer. Now we've had Hurricane Matthew--don't believe anyone who has donated to the Clinton Foundation, or their relatives.

Back from Lakeside--it was gorgeous

Image may contain: ocean, tree, sky, outdoor, nature and water
Beth Sibbring photo, October 7, 2016

We're back from Lakeside, but did catch the leading Fourth Estate/Fifth Column of ABC this morning and they have all of a sudden turned into prudes, who never heard or never said a sexist, obnoxious thing about a woman. Who knew? These are the same reporters who swooned over Bruce Jenner's new breasts and hormone enhanced body. These are the folks who say biological sex means nothing, it's just a feeling. A man who's been married 3 times, owns casinos and says nasty things is not my idea of an ideal candidate. That said, up against a woman who managed a "bimbo eruption" squad for her husband's affairs destroying their lives and careers, whose ex-president husband then made millions while she was Secretary of State and then sold herself for $250,000-$500,000 each time she took money from a government that oppresses women, Trump is still the better of the two to choose the next Supreme Court.

With Donald Trump we know the media will be hanging on every word--he'll be the most watched president ever, whereas with Clinton we will have even more bad policies, appointments and misspent money glossed over than with Obama.

Donald Trump made lewd comments. Wow. I thought from reading social media that only women did that, taking selfies with their girl friends out on the town Friday night at a bar raising their drinks and then posting to Facebook. Lips pursed in a kiss; cleavage busting out all over. Those are not photos for mama or grandma.  I've been scrolling past and not commenting, but I guess I should have blocked them or demanded an apology.

In 2005, or whenever he said these terrible, sexist things, I think Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama were still pledging that they believed marriage was between a man and woman.  Surely there is some video of those terrible, homophobic things being said by these progressive, socialist politicians.

Bigotry on the left

Clarence Thomas is the only black Justice currently sitting on the United States Supreme Court, and only the second to ever do so, but his life and accomplishments have been ignored at The National Museum of African American History and Culture except for a negative reference.  Is it racism? Bigotry?  Is it because he’s a Republican, the only party that consistently advocated full rights for black Americans? The party that tries to save black babies from the abortion machine of Planned Parenthood?

“Unfortunately, by ignoring the contributions of Justice Thomas, the National Museum of African American History and Culture implies that there’s no room for a black man who dares to challenge conventional wisdom of the Left. It also ensures that visitors will learn nothing about one of our nation’s most significant jurists.” http://thehill.com/blogs/congress-blog, October 4, 2016

Brennan asks Hillary about body image

FYI: Brennan is a paid child actor, daughter of a Pennsylvania state senator, Daylin Leach, a Democrat, performing at Hillary's Townhall yesterday. I heard a clip of this farce on the radio yesterday. Even before checking it I knew it was phony and a written script. No one is allowed to speak to the Great Madam Secretary without the right credentials.
"Hi Madam Secretary. I'm Brennan and I'm 15 years old. At my school, body image is a really big issue for girls my age. I see with my own eyes the damage Donald Trump does when he talks about women and how they look. As the first female president how would you undo some of that damage and help girls understand that they're so much more than just what they look like?"
Today we got our flu shot and while in the waiting room I went through a stack of magazines. I picked up the October issue of O The Oprah Magazine and every model in every photo was thin-- fashion, food and furniture. Oprah was all bundled up for the cover, but the last page had a photo of her walking and she looked 50 lbs thinner than the last time I saw a photo (several years ago). I'm not sure young women read her magazine, but they may read Self and Shape which both use women as close to anorexic as I've seen while calling them healthy and physically fit. That, my dear Democrat plant Brennan, is why young girls have an unhealthy body image. Not Miss Universe who made this story up about 6 months ago--at least that's when she remembered it.

Faux outrage

The price of celebrity professors is paid for by student loans. "Harvard pays the adjuncts who teach many of its undergraduate classes an average of $11,037. Elizabeth Warren, who likes comparing the salary of a company's employees to its CEO’s, isn’t comparing the $429,981 that Harvard paid her before she ran for office to an adjunct’s salary. And unlike a CEO, all Warren did was show up for a little bit and then go back to her real business as a lawyer and government consultant." (Frontpage Magazine, June 12, 2014)

What does Judeo-Christian mean, by Dennis Prager

What does Judeo-Christian mean:

The United States of America is the only country in history to have defined itself as Judeo-Christian. While the Western world has consisted of many Christian countries and consists today of many secular countries, only America has called itself Judeo-Christian. America is also unique in that it has always combined secular government with a society based on religious values.

But what does "Judeo-Christian" mean? We need to know. Along with the belief in liberty -- as opposed to, for example, the European belief in equality, the Muslim belief in theocracy, and the Eastern belief in social conformity -- Judeo-Christian values are what distinguish America from all other countries. That is why American coins feature these two messages: "In God we trust" and "Liberty."

Yet, for all its importance and its repeated mention, the term is not widely understood. It urgently needs to be because it is under ferocious assault, and if we do not understand it, we will be unable to defend it. And if we cannot defend it, America will become as amoral as France, Germany, Russia, et al.

First, Judeo-Christian America has differed from Christian countries in Europe in at least two important ways. One is that the Christians who founded America saw themselves as heirs to the Old Testament, the Hebrew Bible, as much as to the New. And even more importantly, they strongly identified with the Jews.
For example, Thomas Jefferson wanted the design of the seal of the United States to depict the Jews leaving Egypt. Just as the Hebrews left Egypt and its values, Americans left Europe and its values (if only those who admire Jefferson would continue to take his advice).

Founders and other early Americans probably studied Hebrew, the language of the Old Testament, at least as much as Greek, the language of the New. Yale, founded in 1701, adopted a Hebrew insignia, and Hebrew was compulsory at Harvard until 1787. The words on the Liberty Bell, "Proclaim Liberty throughout all the land . . . ," are from the Torah. Vast numbers of Americans took Hebrew names -- like Benjamin Franklin and Cotton Mather (kattan in Hebrew means "little one" or "younger").

The consequences included a strong Old Testament view of the world -- meaning, in part, a strong sense of fighting for earthly justice, an emphasis on laws, a belief in a judging, as well as a loving and forgiving, God, and a belief in the chosenness of the Jews which America identified with.

The significance of this belief in American chosenness cannot be overstated.

It accounts for the mission that Americans have uniquely felt called to -- to spread liberty in the world.
This sense of mission is why more Americans have died for the liberty of others than any other nation's soldiers.

It is why those who today most identify with the Judeo-Christian essence of America are more likely to believe in the moral worthiness of dying to liberate countries -- not only Europe, but Korea, Vietnam and Iraq. That is why America stands alone in protecting two little countries threatened with extinction, Israel and Taiwan. That is why conservative Americans are more likely to believe in American exceptionalism -- in not seeking, as President Bush put it, a "permission slip" from the United Nations, let alone from Europe.

The second meaning of Judeo-Christian is a belief in the biblical God of Israel, in His Ten Commandments and His biblical moral laws. It is a belief in universal, not relative, morality. It is a belief that America must answer morally to this God, not to the mortal, usually venal, governments of the world.

That is why those who most affirm Judeo-Christian values lead the fight against redefining marriage. We believe that a pillar of Judeo-Christian values is to encourage the man-woman sexual and marital ideal, and to provide children with the opportunity to benefit from the unique gifts that a man and a woman give a child, gifts that are never replicable by two men alone or two women.

That is why those who most affirm Judeo-Christian values are unmoved by the idea that the war in Iraq is moral if Germany, France, China and Russia say so, but immoral if they oppose it. We ask first what God and the Bible would say about liberating Iraq, not what Syria and other members of the U.N. Security Council say.

That is why those who most affirm Judeo-Christian values believe that war, while always tragic, is on more than a few occasions a moral duty. Nothing "Judeo" ever sanctioned pacifism. Of course, the Hebrew Prophet Isaiah yearned for the day that nations will beat their swords into plowshares. But another Hebrew Prophet, Joel, who is never cited by those who wish to read the secular value of pacifism into the Bible, said precisely the opposite: "Beat your plowshares into swords and your pruning hooks into spears. Let the weakling say, 'I am strong!'"

And that is why those who want Judeo-Christian values to disappear from American public life affirm multiculturalism, seek to remove mention of God from all public life, and make Christmas a private, not a national, holiday.

The battle over whether America remains Judeo-Christian or becomes secular like Europe is what this, the Second American Civil War, is about.

  • Not all Christians are good, so Christianity is evil.
  • Not all Muslims are terrorists, so Islam is peace.
  • Not all men are rapists, so we live in a rape culture.
  • Motherhood is the most important work, so the only job allowed for women is motherhood.
  • Some speech is hateful, so free speech is hate speech.
  • Conservatives are not Progressives, so Conservatism is destructive.
  • All Progressives are conservationists, so spending is conservation.
  • Not all citizens save for retirement, so those who do must pay for those who don't.
  • Some people can't get a state ID card, so voter fraud doesn't exist.
  • Some people vote 12 times in one election, so voter ID is racist.
  • The batteries in all electric cars use precious metals from strip mines, so politicians say the coal industry must die.
  • Tens of millions of people stop looking for work, so they are not unemployed.
  • American taxes make people on welfare wealthier than 99% of the world's poor, so America hates the poor.
  • Americans hate the poor, so America must pay the world.
  • Western capitalist democracies are the cleanest nations on earth, so CO2 is a pollutant.
  • Every living mammal exhales CO2, so humans are parasites.
  • There are more men than women in science and technology jobs, so college is sexist.
  • There are more women in college than men, so women need safe spaces.
  • People who support the police and safe neighborhoods are deplorable, so people who burn down their neighborhoods and shoot police are freedom fighters.
  • One man's freedom fighter is another man's terrorist, so Americans are terrorists.

The Climate Change scam

I live in Ohio and see evidence of climate change all around. There's coal to the south of me and the Great Lakes to the north of me, with rich farm land in the middle. The state used to be under a glacier called the Illinoian about 300,000 years ago and more recently the Wisconsinan, about 24,000 years ago. Our two huge ancient rivers, the Erigans and the Teays were destroyed by glaciers. No smoke stacks, no algae from farmers, and no people messing things up, just sun, ocean and earth movements. Lake Erie didn't exist yet. About 14,000 years ago the glacier retreated and gouged out Lake Erie for us.

We are not in charge here although we do have a serious responsibility to take care of planet earth (and she's not our "mother," btw) and need to cooperate in keeping our lakes and rivers clean so we can use them. Taxing us to send money out of the country to some global get rich bureaucracy is a waste.

"In the realm of climate scientism, the rule seems to be: If the facts don’t support your argument, talk louder, twist the facts, and insult your opponents. That’s certainly what self-styled global warming “experts” like Al Gore and Bill Nye are doing. Rather than debating scientists who don’t accept false claims that humans are causing dangerous climate change, they just proclaim more loudly. . ." Dr. Willie Soon.

Grief recovery, what is helpful and unhelpful

“Allow me to share my current personal observations, as a way of stimulating your own reflection… John Eldredge, Ransomed Heart Ministries, reflecting on the death of a good friend and colleague, as posted on Facebook

Helpful: Generous amounts of sunshine. Gardens, the woods - everything living and green. Long walks. Lonesome country roads. Swimming. Beauty. Music. Water. Friendly dogs (I’ve never understood it when someone says to me, “Yeah - we’re not really dog people.” That’s like saying, “Yeah - we’re not really joy people”). Chocolate. Kindness. Compassion. Not expecting myself to produce the same level of work I normally accomplish in a day. Yard work. Building a fence.

Unhelpful: Grocery stores. Malls. Television. Traffic. Draining people wanting to talk to me (friends and family are at this moment wondering which category they fall into. It’s quite simple - draining people are those who live out of touch with their own soul, and thus mine). Airports. The news - especially politics. Social media. Your typical dose of movie violence.

Do restaurants need to post "No phone" signs?

Image result for ubiquitous cell phone

We went out for dinner last night to celebrate an anniversary with our daughter and son-in-law at Houlihan's in the Kingsdale shopping center.  We had expected it to be crowded because it was a home game day, but were pleasantly surprised that at 5 p.m. there was no problem with service. I was wearing my new scarlet and gray outfit (OSU colors) which was a birthday gift.   I had a very lovely meal of petite filet mignon, grilled asparagus, garlic green beans, wine and a tasty salad. Near the end of our meal I noticed a beautiful young couple come in--they may have been dressed for Arlington's homecoming--the short swingy formal dresses are so popular. Within a minute of sitting, she whipped out her cell phone and began scrolling.  He reached over and gently tapped her hand and she put it down face up on the table, and in about 2 minutes picked it up again, all while chatting with him and occasionally showing him something she thought was funny. She could have stayed home in t-shirt and shorts and read her phone messages. It would have been a lot cheaper--and less rude.

And then the big shocker.  She apparently had a shoe problem or maybe a toenail was irritating her, so she brought her knee up above table height and was fixing whatever was wrong. I hope this was Dutch treat, because the young man deserved better.

Clinton, ISIS and Syria

Clinton's legacy. . . a failed policy in Syria. Hundreds of thousands killed, mass graves and chemical warfare with products possibly from supplies buried in Iraq--the U.S. hasn't even tested them, although they've been begged to, and I think you can guess why. U.S. has made over 6,000 airstrikes on ISIS (10 months ago figure).

Obama's war has now lasted 2 years longer than Bush's. Where's the outrage? Congress has supported both (although Democrats went all soft and squishy on Bush after they signed on endangering our troops). Clearly there are chemical weapons being used by ISIS--they didn't make them.

The Hyde Amendment and Tim Kaine

September 30 was the 40th anniversary of the Hyde Amendment which is estimated to have saved 2 million lives. You probably didn't see anything on the news because our media are controlled by forces that don't care about life issues. The Democratic Party’s platform promises to repeal of the Hyde Amendment because it “impede[s] a woman’s access to abortion.” It also promises to continuing funding Planned Parenthood, the country's largest abortion provider that receives half a billion in our tax dollars which are then laundered to payback various members of Congress during their campaigns. Hillary Clinton is also in favor of moving backward on Hyde. Vice-Presidential nominee Senator Tim Kaine of Virginia, who is "I'm a Catholic, but" has said he will subordinate his support for Hyde to Clinton’s agenda against it if their ticket wins in November.

If Hillary doesn't win, I guess Kaine continues to support Hyde to save his own political hide. Before the DNC convention, ""My voting position on abortion hasn't really changed," Kaine said in the interview aired Sunday. "I support the Hyde Amendment. I haven't changed that."

Then NARAL and Hillary's campaign manager came after him, and Woot! he changed his moral values concerning life. And don't clutter my comments window with stories of Trump's flip flops. We all know that, and we also know no one elected him to anything in the past based on his promises and religious convictions. We know Hillary has flip flopped in order to get elected and lied about even very small things.  She can't resist a lie if it looks good on her.

More on fish oil--tips from a librarian--me

Several days ago when I posted about bursitis and Fish Oil someone asked me about brand or dose. I've found 2 good articles, and if you're linked to a Public Library with databases, here are the titles, "Groundbreaking study reveals new mechanism behind fish oils' health benefits," Life Extension, Sept. 2012; and "Report: Maximizing Omega-3 health benefits," Life Extension, June 2014. Both articles have extensive bibliographies--over 200 citations between them. Covers metabolic syndrome, asthma, COPD, cardiovascular disease, cognition (happy to know it might stop cognitive decline of aging), and cancer. The 2nd article talks about using both fish oil and Krill oil (I thought they were the same).

Penny pincher tip: when I print from a database off site, I always check the page arrangement, and sometimes depending on layout, you can save 4 pages of printing.

The database I used was Ebsco's Alt Health Watch, and the only limiter I used was Full Text because I don't like to read on screen and knew I'd print if I found something.
