The murder of Whitey Bulger

Whackers Get Whacked by Dan Flynn, American Spectator

Winter Hill Gang leader James “Whitey” Bulger, who once “won” a multimillion-dollar prize from the Massachusetts lottery, ran out of luck in West Virginia Tuesday. The 89-year-old died in prison, violently, shortly after his transfer to the United States Penitentiary, Hazelton. The same federal government that empowered Bulger to murder enabled his murder through massive incompetence.

Bulger’s brother, Billy, serving as the most powerful politician in the Bay State and an FBI agent on Whitey’s payroll enabled him commit crimes for decades in Boston with impunity. Much like some police, he shook down drug dealers, bookies, and other racketeers for profit. The former Alcatraz inmate’s criminal instincts and street smarts helped him elude capture while on the lam from late 1994 until 2011, when a tip from Miss Iceland, 1974, led to the feds capturing him in Santa Monica, California, a place a long way from South Boston.

Many believe, and still believe, the FBI never really wanted to catch a guy who embarrassed them in such a major way. They knew he did wrong. But he knew they did wrong, too.

A trial found Bulger complicit in 11 murders. His story inspired characters played on the silver screen by Jack Nicholson and Johnny Depp. But his reluctance to use phones and his ability to elude photographers made him a mysterious, mythic figure in his native South Boston. There, many cast the villain as a hero. “He kept the drugs out of Southie” was a familiar, and false, refrain. But as in the local pedophile-priest scandal, belated media coverage of Bulger’s misdeeds eroded any folk-hero status he once enjoyed. The few reporters who covered him accurately faced threats. Boston Herald columnist Howie Carr, for instance, became the subject of a Bulger assassination scheme. Strangely, knowledge that Bulger became a “rat” for the government, and not any of his murders, did the most to harm his image in South Boston. This, along with gentrification, erased any notion of Bulger as a rogue worthy of admiration.

This work as an informant ultimately led to his undoing. Michele McPhee, a tied-in crime reporter who I frequently filled-in for during my flirtation with talk radio in Boston a decade ago, reports that the perpetrator attempted to gouge the wheelchair-bound Bulger’s eyes out. Whoever did the deed apparently knew where the security cameras looked. McPhee cryptically notes about a former Bulger associate: “Cadillac Frank Salemme's recently convicted codefendant Paul Weadick is a Hazelden inmate.” Various reports indicate involvement by mafia-affiliated inmates.

“You live by the sword, you die by the sword” seems too neat a conclusion here. Bulger worked the system for decades. The system, which strangely put him in general population, allowed men like him to work him over for a few minutes. Bulger’s life showed that fine lines sometimes differentiate cops and criminals. His death shows that, too.

Ancestry.com and Cesar Sayoc

Cesar Sayoc, the accused pipe non-bomb threat and Trump lover, claims to be Seminole Indian (and a lot of other things), but they won't claim him. Sort of like the Cherokee won't claim Elizabeth Warren. But what puzzles me about this article is the role of Ancestry.com. Are "roots" companies supposed to be revealing personal biographical and biological information to newspapers about people who have used their services? Didn't the Germans use genealogies to track down people with a drop of Jewish blood?

What’s going on with the 14th Amendment?

Yesterday I read an article on the birthright 14th amendment (which I truly believe Trump is using to get his base in high gear for the election and to keep the CNN opinion/new readers and watchers riled up and jumping off a cliff) which gave some fascinating background. I think it was from 2010—or at least a number of years ago since this pops up from time to time. It was by Ann Coulter, someone I rarely read since she also likes to get people riled up (during the 2016 campaign I think she supported Trump, but then turned against him; don’t recall the details). Anyway it provided historical background that was fascinating. I didn’t know any of it. In 2015 she did a scathing piece on the stupidity of Fox News on the topic of the 14th amendment, but in 2010, her piece was much more reasoned (if she can be called that) and detailed on anchor babies and it involved a footnote. http://www.anncoulter.com/columns/2010-08-04.html
“The 14th Amendment was added after the Civil War in order to delegitimize the Supreme Court's Dred Scott decision, which held that black slaves were not citizens of the United States. The precise purpose of the amendment was to stop sleazy Southern states [i.e. the Democrat party] from denying citizenship rights to newly freed slaves -- many of whom had roots in this country longer than a lot of white people.
The amendment guaranteed that freed slaves would have all the privileges of citizenship by providing: "All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside."
The drafters of the 14th amendment had no intention of conferring citizenship on the children of aliens who happened to be born in the U.S. (For my younger readers, back in those days, people cleaned their own houses and raised their own kids.)
Inasmuch as America was not yet a massive welfare state, attracting malingerers, frauds and cheats, it would be amazing if the drafters even considered the amendment's effect on the children of aliens.
But they did.
The very author of the citizenship clause, Sen. Jacob Howard of Michigan, expressly said: "This will not, of course, include persons born in the United States who are foreigners, aliens, who belong to the families of ambassadors or foreign ministers."
Coulter continues in the 2010 article:
“And then, out of the blue in 1982, Justice Brennan slipped a footnote into his 5-4 opinion in Plyler v. Doe, asserting that "no plausible distinction with respect to Fourteenth Amendment 'jurisdiction' can be drawn between resident aliens whose entry into the United States was lawful, and resident aliens whose entry was unlawful." (Other than the part about one being lawful and the other not.)
Brennan's authority for this lunatic statement was that it appeared in a 1912 book written by Clement L. Bouve. (Yes, the Clement L. Bouve.) Bouve was not a senator, not an elected official, certainly not a judge -- just some guy who wrote a book.

So on one hand we have the history, the objective, the author's intent and 100 years of history of the 14th Amendment, which says that the 14th Amendment does not confer citizenship on children of illegal immigrants.  
On the other hand, we have a random outburst by some guy named Clement -- who, I'm guessing, was too cheap to hire an American housekeeper. Any half-wit, including Clement L. Bouve, could conjure up a raft of such "plausible distinction(s)" before breakfast. Among them: Legal immigrants have been checked for subversive ties, contagious diseases, and have some qualification to be here other than "lives within walking distance."

That's a very nice, reasonable, political way to talk, but it doesn't hide the fact that the calls for violence, disruption and resistance from the Left are not intended to be productive or contribute to harmony. They are intended to bring down the Trump administration. If you think things are bad now, wait until November 7. If Republicans keep the House and Senate, there will be more rioting, burning, and screaming at the moon.  If Republicans lose Congress, Democrats will immediately begin plans to destabilize the government and stall the economy.  They will see to it that Trump can succeed at nothing that benefits the country.

Born to into a very split household, Dad was a devout Catholic Republican and Mom a bed wetting liberal Jew. I know you're all thinking, "say what?" Anyway, while politics were rarely discussed as a family, politics were an event. Election night the phone got unplugged and pizza got ordered in. I grew up on ABC News Election Nights with Brinkley and Hugh Downs. I remember my Dad taking me to a Reagan rally at the Portland Airport Holiday Inn. It was a good growing up.

As I got older (high school) some of my Mom's liberal politics crept into my arguments. Hey, I was a teenager. I remember actually defending abortion at one point in of all places in Sunday School. This was the early 90's Portland, Oregon before Portland went full on insane.

1996 was my first election and I voted for Dole. Where did I switch from defending abortion in 1992 to voting for Dole 4 years later? I didn't go to college, I went to work out of high school and nothing moves teenage idealism to conservatism than seeing taxes taken from your paycheck.

But that was only the very beginning.

In 1998 I moved to San Francisco because I could and because I hated boring Portland. San Francisco's liberalism was so repulsive in every sense. Bums, drugs, corruption, anti-Israel, racism cloaked as diversity, if you name it and hated it, SF had it in spades. I lasted 4 years in SF before squirreling back to Portland. SF was terrible in 2002 and I saw the writing on the wall. That writing is what we read about everyday now. Poop maps anyone?

Back in Portland, married, a new homeowner and decidedly conservative, I found myself a plaintiff against my employer and the SEIU when my job was hijacked and this my career threatened. I successfully sued the union OUT of my job and an activist was born.

I became a national face for the Right to Work when Bush was President, testifying to Congress in 2007 against card check, something the democrats sarcastically and deceptively called the employee free choice act (ECFA). My story and many others like mine made certain EFCA never made it to Bush's desk. To this day I will never be able to repay those Constitutional, Federalist Society, attorneys whose brilliant legal minds came to my rescue pro-bono. A legal activist was born.

Then came the nightmare. His name was Obama. Obama kissed the asses of the union I had just defeated. He promised if elected EFCA would be the law of the land. And he won. I was more determined and more conservative every day that he promised he had a pen and a phone. He rammed through Obamacare, lost Congress, won re-election in 2012, and then lost the Senate in 2014. And yet he still terrorized freedom through executive fiat while he stacked the courts. He was wildly unpopular if the losses his party suffered yet he laid the groundwork that his stains would linger a long time. Maybe forever.

In 2013 I escaped for good insane Portland to North Carolina. For the first time in my life I lived where I could be an out, loud and proud conservative. And I was one in real life and on social media. And boy did those Portland, Oregon Facebook friends unfriend me at an impressive clip. A conservative??? Oh noes! Well ... Bye! I attended my first CPAC in 2014, I met fellow activists from all over the nation, I honed my skills in activist boot camps, landed at Heritage Action and in 2015 went to work for Ted Cruz's Presidential campaign. Ahhhh, life was good until it was Trump v Clinton.

I hated both of them and voted for neither. While I celebrated Inauguration Day, it was a celebration for me of Obama being gone. I had massive reservations about Trump until January 31st 2017, the night Trump nominated Gorsuch to the Supreme Court. One of the last events I participated in (before moving to my current location, Wisconsin) was the effort to lobby for Gorsuch. He was such a longshot but judicial activists like myself knew he was the next Scalia. And Trump delivered him.

Last June the SCOTUS (with Gorsuch) delivered the Janus decision that gives public sector union members the right to work. The decision was a Hosanna for a right to work advocate like me. The next day, Kennedy announced his retirement from the court.

On July 9th, Trump nominated a milquetoast Court of Appeals judge named Brett Kavanaugh. Kavanaugh was nothing to be excited about. But the increasingly unhinged left had other plans. Especially a crazy lady from Palo Alto and a Senator named Feinstein.

At the time of Kavanaugh's hearings, the left for over a year and a half had thrown everything they had at Trump to no avail. He was winning, America was winning, McConnell was winning. And the left was incredulous. And since they couldn't get Trump they were going to get somebody. Anybody. Judge Brett Kavanaugh was the unlucky victim.

What happened to Kavanaugh turned me into the biggest activist yet. The Democrats went so vile that a once a milquetoast judge was now someone I was willing to put my life on hold for to fly to DC, twice, to lobby Senators to confirm. Again, a judicial activist. A lover of the Constitution and the rule of law could not be stopped.

What happened to Kavanaugh was the Democrats doing in full view what created this walk away campaign, though I know its birth goes back to 2016. The assaults by the media, the invective by candidates (a basket of deplorables) and the like. From Wisconsin, I welcome all of you to the side of righteousness and fairness. To the Constitution, to the right to life, to liberty, to the pursuit of happiness; I walk with you to #MAGA.”

Thinking about organized crime and Khashoggi

Ohio's Black Hand Syndicate: The Birth of Organized Crime in America

When the news came out about the death, torture and mutilation of Jamal Khashoggi, the NYT Muslim reporter killed by his own countrymen, our media were horrified because he was one of their own. The story was even used to club Trump--but then everything is. Obviously, he'd done something to offend his "tribe" or "family."

I was reading "Ohio's Black Hand Syndicate; the Birth of Organized Crime in America" by David Meyers and his daughter Elise Meyers Walker at the time. (It happened in Ohio.) The Appendix contains the By-laws of the organization. Article 1: "The person who tries to reveal the secrets of this society will be punished with death." The articles go on to describe what other offences will be covered by Article 1 and includes offending someone, or harming another branch of the group or family. And the articles include using a knife to mark the offender, and stabbing. In fact, having one's body marked with a knife or being stabbed is also the punishment if a member has received an insult but didn't report it! And a member can be marked with a knife, stabbed, or branded if he fails to use the knife on someone else when ordered (perhaps the Saudis had the same rule?).

This crime syndicate was born in a fruit store in Marion, Ohio, and terrorized immigrant communities. All this was late 19th and early 20th century organized.  Evil is global and not confined to one ethnic, religious or national group.

Glenn Beck interviews Michael Rectenwald of NYU

Michael Rectenwald is a former Communist professor at NYU and is now a libertarian. What really changed his views was having his friends and colleagues attack him because he didn’t like the PC atmosphere on campus and wrote about it. Was attacked as just another Cis-gender white male supremacist. He was an outstanding professor, loved by his students, did all the committee and membership stuff you have to do to get P & T at a university. Published many articles and books defending Marxism. But as I’ve mentioned before eventually the Left eats its own, and it went after him.

Glenn Beck is probably the best interviewer on radio/TV—actually lets his guest speak. Although we don’t watch him regularly like we did 5 years ago, he’s outstanding in this capacity. This is an excellent story about Prof. Rectenwald’s transition, not from male to female, but from left to liberal/libertarian. He explains what is happening in our culture: Communism is like blowing up a building with bombs; post-modernism is like placing a few strategic termites and waiting for the building to fall. He dates this to 1968. And it begins with language. Having THE TALK with children in the 21st century

Forty five years ago I was probably considering how to talk to my children about “where do babies come from.”  And as they got a little older I even asked my church for help as they neared those scary adolescent years (btw, got zip nada zilch).  It’s a little tougher today.

I can be fairly certain we talked about divorce.  That was all around them. Playmates. Cousins. TV and movie themes.  Even children’s books were addressing that trauma for children. And yes, modesty.  I’m sure they saw my disapproval at some of the 70s fashion when we went shopping or watched TV together.  But transgenderism?  Never.  In fact, until the Supreme Court decided to undo thousands of years of tradition for pagans and religious people alike, there was little said about that, but certain well funded groups needed a new challenge.  Same sex “marriage” in the 1970s was not an option—in fact, until the election of 2012, no responsible candidate for president would have even suggested it.

But there’s help today that wasn’t available then (in part there was no need for this title in the 70s).  Leila Miller and Trent Horn have co-authored, “Made This Way, How to Prepare Kids to Face Today's Tough Moral Issues.”  Some churches are buying it in bulk ($5) and giving it to parents.

The authors are Catholic (I heard about the book on the podcast of Catholic Answers), but don’t let that deter you if you don’t share their faith.  Catholics are really the only Christians who have a well thought out, systematic teaching on sexuality.

The authors’ approach “begins not with the Bible or Church teaching but with the natural law. In kid-friendly ways, Miller and Horn help you communicate how the right way to live is rooted in the way we're made. God's design for human nature is a blueprint or owner's manual for moral living that any child can grasp through reason and apply to modern controversies over sex, marriage, life and the quest for human fulfillment.”

The WalkAway Campaign

There is a social media site that’s getting a lot of traction, and I read it since I was a Democrat until 2000.  The founder, Brandon Straka, a gay actor (I suspect he must be out of work), has done some TV appearances on Fox—or possibly others. The bulk of the “testimonies” are young people—of all varieties—gay, trans, brown, black, born again Christians, Muslims, atheists, white even foreign—who have walked away either from liberalism or Democrat party.  Many submit videologs about their epiphanies.  Not all say they’ve become Republicans, but they aren’t voting Democrat in this or the 2020 election.  Their biggest complaint seems to be they are tired of being treated like victims, and they realize the media are biased.  That said, this one pasted below seems a little formulaic to me—as if it were written by a Democrat or two I know.  As if they were suddenly to see the light.  Question:  Do people really become wise, sensible, patriotic and pragmatic by getting off social media and not watching the news?

“I'm 26. I was a Democrat and progressive every since I first got into politics. Loved President Obama, voted for Bernie in the primary. Then voted for Hillary. I HATED Trump, the reason is because I thought he was racist, sexist and a bigot, I also thought all Republicans and his were supporters were too. When he won, I was devastated. Couldn't believe this happened. I expected the world to end, literally. Up until a little over a month ago, I was a dedicated viewer of CNN and MSNBC, listened to SiriusXM progress on a daily basis etc. Everyday that passed by, I got madder and madder. And I hated him more and more. I finally got so tired of him, I decided to stop watching the news and take a break from social media. That was when I finally had time to think, on my own, without 24/7 liberal commentary/media TELLING me how to think.. I realized this is the greatest country on Earth. I'm not a victim, I'm not a whiner. I take personal responsibility for myself. There's so much to be grateful for being an American. I started questioning why I was a Progressive. The reason is because I thought I was SUPPOSED to be one. I also realized that the news paints this man in such a terrible light, they WANT you to hate him. While in reality, this country is doing GREAT under his leadership. They want you to focus on his character and not how America is becoming the world leader again. Every single attack against him is that he's supposedly racist sexist and bigoted, that's all bs man. Nobody wants to talk about how great America is doing right now. When you realize that, there's no way you can be a Dem anymore. He is standing up for this country, and they hate it. They want him to be a globalist and make the rest of the world happy, at the expense of Americans. I honestly believe they don't love this country. I didn't. I came to the revelation that 90% of what I was complaining about was BS and playing the victim. All rooted in emotions and zero logic. I was mad all the time and truly didn't know why. That's exactly how all of them are. They'll never admit this country is wonderful. They'll never admit this man is doing great. I am. Therefore I am not a Democrat anymore, and I will vote for him in 2020. And whoever wants to help him along the way. I believe millons of Americans like me are walking away, silently. The media will never report it. But they will see sooner rather than later.”

Kavanaugh and caravan didn’t seem to do it, so--

After the Justice Kavanaugh debacle when many independents and even some Democrats turned against the last minute smear tactics of the Democrats in the Senate, a meeting was called.  Senate Democrats, members of the deep state, high level members of the Obama administration, tenured radicals in academe, late night comedians and the main stream media put their heads together two weeks before the election and said, "What can we do to stop this man who has foiled everything we've been able to throw at him?"

And they came up with another last minute plan . . . more dangerous and evil than all the rest combined. If anyone gets hurt, it will just be one of the little people who work for a living, because all the “targets” have layers of security.

Which party has an unabashed record for violence?

At 47%, Trump's approval rating at mid-terms is higher than Obama's in 2010, and 6 bombs didn't go off right before elections giving Democrats free air time to talk about how awful Trump is.

It's the Democrats who have been encouraging violence--Clinton, Holder, Waters, etc. Just Google "violence against Fox" and you'll find stations attacked with bombs and trucks in Baltimore, Boston, and LA, and that's as far as I got.  What comedians have shown Trump’s severed head on YouTube/TV? Who thinks it’s funny to threaten his son with rape, and produce a rap video of the first lady as a stripper. Then subscribe to Washington Post on line and have 9 out of 10 articles be not just anti-Trump. but full of lies. The intent is to outrage their readers, and if it brings some unstable people to violence Nancy Pelosi gets her “collateral damage.” Who has been attacking members of the Trump administration in restaurants, malls and elevators? Who tells their supporters to get in the faces of Republicans and drive them out, or kick them when they are done?

The left is so undone with their collective inability in government, academe and entertainment to thwart we the voters, they are moved to violence.

On this day in 1987

The Borking. On October 23, 1987, the United States Senate held one of the most-controversial votes on a Supreme Court nominee in its history, when it rejected Robert Bork’s appointment.

The evil and words of Ted Kennedy was still apparent during the Kavanaugh hearings. We heard almost exactly the same charges.  "“Robert Bork's America is a land in which women would be forced into back-alley abortions, blacks would sit at segregated lunch counters, rogue police could break down citizens' doors in midnight raids, schoolchildren could not be taught about evolution, writers and artists would be censored at the whim of government, and the doors of the federal courts would be shut on the fingers of millions of citizens for whom the judiciary is often the only protector of the individual rights that are the heart of our democracy,” he said.

The irony is the Supreme Court always moves to the left, even with an appointment by a Republican.  Democrats are never disappointed in a Republican nominee—Republicans always are.

Update from Larisa on Lily’s leukemia

“Today Lily had her first 4 week off treatment appointment. Her counts looked good. Not quite normal yet but that is expected. She is feeling much better off chemo. Her back pain which was causing a bunch of issues a couple of months ago is much better since she started doing acupuncture!

Overall Lily is doing great. She is enjoying her senior year of high school. She has heard back from two colleges that she has been admitted and is waiting on her final 4 colleges and nursing programs to make a final decision.

Overall her body is still recovering from the two years of more chemo. This month they are running some additional tests to see how her immune system is recovering. Those results will take a couple of days. In addition she is continuing to follow up with orthopedics on her back — they recommended acupuncture which is working so praying that continues to improve her back and overall pain level. She will also follow up with endocrinologist in December. We are hoping getting off chemo will help with the issues she has had there. Time will tell on most of this. We are cautiously trying to wean her off some more of her meds. It will be a slow process.

So on a different note please send up a prayer for our sweet clinic friend Finn. His cancer continues to spread. He and his mom sat often beside us at clinic. Such a sweet family. Please keep them in your prayers. Rhabdo is a horrible cancer.”

Hungry children at schools

I'm watching a TV ad about hungry children and school feeding programs. It’s a very positive message about how these programs help children learn.

I attended kindergarten in Alameda, CA during WWII and remember receiving free milk (in glass bottles). I asked my husband who went to first grade (no kindergarten) in Indianapolis. He remembers free milk also--he even recalled leaving the classroom and going to a particular place in the building to get the milk.

When I was in high school we could buy milk cartons for 2 cents (no pop in the building in those days). The lunch program in the 1950s used "surplus government commodities," and according to the document cited below it began in 1947. Who can forget shredded turkey in gravy on mashed potatoes with a side of green beans? Not as good as mom's. My mother recalled lunches at her one room country school in Lee County, IL, but the parents brought it.

Now children can receive breakfast, lunch, after school snacks and summer nutrition programs when schools are closed either free or subsidized by the government. Breakfast programs began in 1966 as a pilot program, and became permanent in 1975. And now we battle obesity in children and almost 40 million children are fed at school. But "food insecurity" apparently has increased, not decreased.

When the government separates children from parents

As you all know, our state and local governments separate children from their parents--usually an agency called child services something, and like what's happening at the border it is for their own safety and well-being. Sometimes the parent is going to prison, sometimes the home life is chaotic, sometimes the parent is mentally ill, or abusive, or homeless or has died.

If possible, the agency representing the state works to reunite the family, just as is going on at the border, sometimes they place them with relatives, as immigration services is doing, sometimes the hearings are extended or postponed, as is happening to the illegal immigrants who then just disappear.

It's a long, tedious process. Occasionally our American children are "surrendered," and an adoptive family is found, or they go to foster care until they "age out." It's always disruptive and painful for the children. If you care about the children our government is protecting at the border, toss in some care for America's children who go through this every day. . . maybe visiting dad in prison, maybe at granny's part of the time, and aunty's home part of the time. Frequent school changes, lost records, and missing friends while going from foster home to foster home.

Although the agencies are state and local, much of the funding for our U.S. children comes from your federal government which has an elaborate reporting system, and even then it sometimes fails the children (which is the sad story you read in the papers). The Adoption and Foster Care Analysis and Reporting System (AFCARS) collects case-level information from state and tribal title IV-E agencies on all children in foster care and those who have been adopted with title IV-E agency involvement. These child statistics include race, ethnicity, age, demographics, court dates, adoption and foster records, medical including immunization (which the foreign children don't have, btw), parents' problems, income, etc. quite detailed and the information collection and research has been going on for decades.

The border children have none of these records, and information is collected on the fly. The federal agencies have to be sensitive to child trafficking, and there's no quick way to find out who these children belong to. During the last administration an unknown number of children were placed with traffickers. I looked at the Ohio AFCARS page which had 18 different elements, and found it overwhelming. The section for tribal groups has 24 different elements.

Hymns of praise

 

We attend the traditional service at our Lutheran church (NALC) in Upper Arlington, Ohio.  There are two other types of services—one I call “happy clappy” which I’m guessing is mostly post-1960s songs and praise music without liturgy and the other “clangy bangy” with very loud guitars and drums, and we have two locations for one congregation. Right now we have a total of five services, but I can remember a time when we had 10, trying to suit all the tastes in worship style and preaching. Our traditional service at Lytham Road has a choir and the other two have praise bands with perhaps a quartet to lead the music.  The pastors rotate, so we all eventually hear the same sermons by the same pastors. Right now we’re in a study called “Gathered,” which is about worship.  Last week was on music (song) with sermon by senior pastor Steve Turnbull and yesterday was the sacraments by Aaron Thompson who is director of the high school ministry.  Lutherans have two sacraments—baptism and communion, but for 1500 years the Christian church had six sacraments, but Martin Luther cut them to two, and today many Protestant and Bible and non-denominational churches have no sacraments, only memorials.

So this all leads to the opening hymn of praise, “Praise the Lord! O Heavens. I always read the information about the hymn writers at the bottom of the page (I don’t like to read words on a screen, because I like to see the music so I can practice my dwindling ability to read music.) This one said, Text: The Foundling Hospital Collection, London, 1796.  One of the beautiful things I appreciate about the Internet is I don’t have to wait long to satisfy my curiosity. Don’t let the name fool you.  “Republican Women for Progress” was founded all the way back in 2017, has literally never given any financial support to any Republican candidate, and their largest donor is a Silicon Valley billionaire Reid Hoffman who (1) was a major Democratic contributor long before Trump came on the scene and (2) is a man. If this is just the sort of "grass roots"  it's not clear Republicans should be too worried. It’s like thinking Nuns on a Bus are Catholic nuns.

Voter ID

Yesterday I paid $4 for a spring coat at the Volunteers of America. Apple Green with a nice hood that folds inside the collar for those brisk lake breezes and I will keep it up at our lake house. I paid cash. The woman in front of me bought several nice winter coats for children. Her bill was $14 and she used a credit card. For that small purchase at a non-profit she had to show an ID. In fact, you almost can’t function in the USA if you don’t have ID to get in a government building or to make a purchase which shows you are alive and living somewhere with an address or a citizen. But Democrats rage. Why is that? Why do they want dead Chicagoans and live Hondurans cancelling out black votes?  This is a rhetorical question, of course.

Relax liberals

Although I'm not sure this will assure my Democrat friends and relatives, Brett Kavanaugh will probably not bring any change to the leftward list of the last 60+ years of SCOTUS decisions. Beginning with Earl Warren (when I was in high school and during the 40 years  I  was a Democrat) we've had an activist court. Americans have become very comfortable with being told what to do by the highest court. Democrats are never disappointed with their presidents' SCOTUS picks; Republicans always are with whom their presidents chose.

 Joseph Mussomeli at the Imaginative Conservative outlines the picks and pans. Eisenhower gave us Warren and Brennan; Nixon gave us Blackmun and Powell (Roe v. Wage and California v. Bakke); Ford's appointee John Paul Stevens helped strike down "a moment of silence;" Reagan's Sandra Day O'Connor often disappointed conservatives; GHW Bush's David Souter also sided with liberals; GW Bush's John Roberts supported Obamacare.

So relax liberals, Democrats, Progressives and Communists. Call back your witches, the Antifa, the Pink hatted haters. Stop the caravans invading. The court always leans left, even if it's not as fast as you desire.

NPR and The Donald

I was listening to NPR while putting away groceries. Did you know there is a woman in St. Petersburg posting discord and disrespect on Twitter who's a threat to our election integrity? I thought about it, and I'll stick with Maxine Waters, Nancy Pelosi and Rosie O'Donnell as bigger problems sowing hate and misinformation in our midterm elections. When that interview was over, the announcer went on to lament that President Trump called a prostitute "horse face," but had a soft spot of dictators. And all this with my tax money

Things change quickly in la-la land

Donald Trump, the man the Democrats/Progressives/Left and their buddies in late night TV accused of being mentally ill and incompetent, a stupid boob, a racist, sexist and homophobe, is now supposed to straighten out generations of Saudi regime behavior which includes hard line sharia justice, (chopping off hands, stoning women, beheading homosexuals). Until recently the Leftists were OK with sharia and if any of us were concerned WE were Islamophobes. Now that their victim is a journalist, well, it's shock and awe at the 7th century system of justice.

One of the President's simple phrases is "they are good people." He's quite predictable and doesn’t use big words. It's like Obama's stammer when he's searching for the next word. He said it about Mexicans coming illegally over the border, meaning not all were criminals, and the Left chose to NOT hear it, and instead heard "rapists." He said it in Charlottesville when angry groups were attacking each other, and others were just standing around and the Left heard only "I admire Nazis."

No matter what President Trump says, the leftist media and politicians translate it for the worst. He never said all Mexicans are criminals and rapists--he's not a racist. He never said the white supremacists were good and he agreed with them. That's just our "free press" media slinging it again, telling us what to think.

Democrat Professor acting badly

Another example of a crazy academic Democrat--James Thomas, an assistant professor of sociology at Univ. of Mississippi—“stick your fingers in their salads.” What unhinges these guys? I hope this stops his tenure and promotion plans.

I checked his staff bio page. Thomas’ "dissertation research focused on the role of stand-up comedy venues in the production of contentious politics. I conducted ethnographic fieldwork at three different sites where stand-up comedy took place: a professional comedy club, a self-described punk/rock/horror/sci-fi bar that hosted a weekly amateur comedy show, and a popular drag revue at an LGBT nightclub."

And you all thought PhDs had no fun! Imagine spending 5 years in comedy clubs and claiming you were working! And then when you finally get to "adult" you incite people to attack others in restaurants who disagree with you.

A caravan of illegal immigrants heading for our border

I supposed it would be paranoid to suggest the Democrats are behind pushing throngs of healthy, well dressed illegal immigrants to our border so there can be a confrontation complete with crying children on the news right before an election. If they were refugees, they'd just step over the border into Mexico. If they are political pawns and tools, they have to get to our border.

Why don't the central Americans who say they are escaping poverty and violence just go to Mexico? It's much closer, it's a very wealthy country, and they speak the same language. Some of the requirements for citizenship are steeper, but for being guest workers, that won't matter.

More threats on the life of the president and his administration by Democrats

Democratic senator Kamala Harris joked about killing President Trump and members of his administration in a Thursday appearance on The Ellen Degeneres Show. (2017 story)  Should she get the rodeo clown treatment from CNN--you remember, all he did was wear an Obama mask. Didn't even threaten to kill him. Wasn't running for president. Wasn't begging for more screen time on TV to boost his career.

William Lacy Clay (D-MO) expressed his amazement that “in 2013 such hatred, intolerance and disrespect towards the President of the United States could take place at the Missouri State Fair… Our fair is supposed to showcase the best of Missouri, instead, it showed an ugly face of intolerance and ignorance to the world.” Rep. Steve Webb (D-MO) added, “Sometimes apologies just won’t do. While I do not believe this represents all of rural Missouri, the racial undertones of a taunted rodeo clown dressed as our nation’s first black president is what the nation woke up to this morning. It’s time for all of us, from both rural and urban areas, to fight this type of sentiment with a united front. Leaders of this state need to do more than accept a pressured apology.”

Elizabeth Warren’s heritage

I noticed one cable news channel was calling the President's tweets about her phony claim, "racist." What about her depiction of her own paternal grandparents as racists, giving them as the reason her parents eloped (supposedly because her mother was part Cherokee). Another "throw granny under the bus" Democrat story. Everyone has family stories and histories, passed down. We just don't get to check the box for special treatment intended for someone else.

The recipes Elizabeth Warren contributed to “Pow Wow Chow” were for Crab with Tomato Mayonnaise Dressing and Cold Omelets with Crab Meat and appear to be word for word copies of a French chef's design.  Didn’t another Democrat fake a recipe story?

Warren didn't claim native American heritage until about age 30 when she got a diversity appointment at Harvard. I don't even call it cultural appropriation--just gaming the system since universities and the federal government were playing that game to look good. ". . .for at least six straight years during Warren’s tenure, Harvard University reported in federally mandated diversity statistics that it had a Native American woman in its senior ranks at the law school. According to both Harvard officials and federal guidelines, those statistics are almost always based on the way employees describe themselves." (Boston Globe, 2012)

Who determines that healthcare is too high?

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the average American family earned $74,664 (before taxes) and spent $57,311 across various expense categories in 2016.  [not sure what is “family”—probably means household—doesn’t give number of people] 

1. Taxes 2. housing 3. transportation 4. food 5. pensions and insurance 6. Entertainment and contributions 7.  health care

Taxes are the biggest chunk. $18,900 each year, and then housing, $18,886. “Following housing costs, transportation ($9,049), food ($7,203), and pensions and personal insurance ($6,831) topped the list for the biggest ticketed items on most Americans' budgets. For the majority of people who prefer not to cook, the cost of dining out could add up big. The occasional luxury experience may not seem like a big drain on the average budget, but entertainment, cash contributions, and apparel and services accounted for nearly $7,000 (over 10 percent) of most Americans' annual expenses.”  Health care was $4,612. That said, health care increased almost 67% between 2006 and 2016, 8 years of which Obama was taking over our health insurance choices.

Crockpot Chicken, Pat Miller’s recipe

Mix together

1/2 cup mayonnaise

1/3 cup Panko bread crumbs

1/3 cup Parmesan cheese

1 Tablespoon Italian seasoning

Spread the mix over the chicken (I used 6 boneless thighs, but could be more—that’s what I had on hand)

Cook on low 5-6 hours in the crockpot.

Years ago I started reading “Prayer,” by Ole Hallesby a Norwegian Lutheran, after a friend told me it was a “classic.”  Couldn’t make it through the first chapter when I was younger.  I’m reading it now in my morning devotions, and every word jumps off the page. He had a doctorate, and was a professor of theology, but wrote devotional titles for the ordinary Christian.  This was first published in 1931. I probably gave my copy away years ago, and am now reading the church’s library copy. This edition has a study guide with questions.

Hugh Hewitt outlines the first 2 Trump years

I’m exhausted watching President Trump.  How does he do it?  He has accomplished so much and kept so many promises, yet runs all over the country campaigning for local and state candidates. Are there three of him? The latest release of a hostage held by 2 years brings that number to over 15.  Yet the media are upset if he doesn’t have an answer for Khashhoggi’s disappearance in Turkey within 48 hours.  Hugh Hewitt writes:

Tracy, guest blogger, visits DC during the Kavanaugh hearings!

So my husband and I went to Washington DC for our 20th anniversary . We had the trip planned a month and a half in advance, but it happened to end up being last week and weekend when all the Kavanaugh protests were happening . We got to be in the gallery on the senate floor when Mitch McConnell and crying Chuck Schumer addressed the subject of moving forward with the vote.  It was so neat to actually be in there . Anyways , we went to all the protests - we were very respectful, minus the fact that our presence itself was offensive because we wore our Trump gear and I had on a “Confirm Kavanaugh” shirt .

Despite the fact that we were just quietly observing these protests, we were verbally attacked multiple times . I was called a gender traitor more times than I can even count . One woman told us ( after observing our trump gear ) to go back to Alabama , Mississippi , or wherever the “F%*^” we were from. ( We are from GA ) . Perhaps she should take a look at the electoral map and see all the red. . .  why would she assume we were from Alabama or Mississippi ? We were yelled at to get the F out of there , that we weren’t welcome .

One woman walked right up to us with her daughter who appeared to be about 15 or 16 years old . First she told us that President Trump is only making America great if you’re white and she went on to talk about our white privilege ( she was also white) . She then went on to ask if we had daughters . My husband told her yes , that we have two daughters about her daughter’s age . She then proceeded to tell us that she hopes that our daughters get raped and get pregnant and get denied an abortion .

I could go on and on with stories about our DC trip. So many people would walk by us , see our shirts or hats and give us a discreet thumbs up but keep walking as to not associate with us in fear of being attacked.  On the other hand, some would stop and talk and hang out with us and we met some awesome people whom I hope to stay in touch with . One guy came up to us and started up a conversation with us and asked if he could hang with us . I told him of course ! He then pulled his MAGA hat out of his backpack and put it on because he felt safe to do so since he had others with him.

It was truly an eye opening experience. You see it on TV and it’s nuts . . .  but seeing it in person is a lot different . We actually witnessed the famous protestors banging and trying to claw open the Supreme Court doors . It was pure craziness .

The DC and Capitol police are amazing and on top of it.   Super kind and helpful, but when it came down to business - they weren’t playing . Even in the angry mob - I felt safe for the most part with the exception of a couple of times where I felt nervous . They also had undercover cops everywhere .

Cupp on Kanye

S.E. Cupp, a token conservative on CNN, said this  about Kanye West and Donald Trump’s meeting, “I think you had there a man who’s clearly not okay and a president who’s willing to exploit that. And worse, to exploit that under the auspicious of race relations and black communities, joblessness, mental health, all the things that ended up in this bucket of issues that were sort of addressed in this free for all.”

S.E. Cupp can ramble on a bit herself—used to work for Glenn Beck and I watched her every evening.  West talked without interruption or coaching from Trump about fatherless homes--including his own when growing up. He talked about how welfare has debilitated men. He talked about off shore manufacturing hurting blacks. He talked about education--what's good and what isn't. He talked about being diagnosed with a mental illness (a misdiagnosis--it was sleep deprivation) even with an IQ in the top 2%. At one point, he corrected himself when he said something negative--said he wants to only be positive. 

Have you ever heard Barack Obama speak off the cuff with no teleprompter?  About 50 “uhs” and stammers.  West was actually more articulate than Obama, and since Obama was raised by upper middle class white grandparents, Kanye possibly knows more about being a black man than Obama does.

For this he's ridiculed on CNN, Facebook and Twitter.  It’s just not proper for a black man to work and live outside the Democrat bubble.

We had a great trip to Fort Ancient Earthworks and Nature Preserve to see the 2,000 year old, human-built earthen walls in the Little Miami River Valley with our Conestoga group (Ohio history). It is believed to be a sacred and ceremonial site, and was never a Fort, but got that name before people knew what it was. http://fortancient.org/

People are not one dimensional

So there can't be "good people on both sides?" My views on abortion are no secret, it's taking the life of the weakest and most vulnerable, yet I have friends and relatives I've known all my life who donate to Planned Parenthood AND volunteer at food pantries for the vulnerable. I watched on TV the paid harridans and harpies storming the doors of the Supreme Court over Kavanaugh's swearing in, but many Democrat women stood silently watching and grieving, not making themselves into idiots or destroying property. Need cinnamon

I used the last of my cinnamon making an apple pie.  I’m within walking distance of a Penzey store, but I won’t shop there.  Bill Penzey doesn’t want anyone in his store who voted for Trump.

No Columbus Day celebration in Columbus, Ohio

Heidi Walked Away after 2 terms of Obama and voting for Hillary

“I grew up in a blue-collar family we didn't have much but we did have my dad who busted his butt. Growing up I always heard how the Democratic party was for the working class people for the people who didn't have much, and the Republican party was for the upper-class rich folks. Always voted Democrat because they are the people who work for us! As I grew up and became old enough to vote, I was always reminded, Vote Democrat! Don't know the candidate doesn't matter if they have a D beside their name vote for them, They understand and fight for working class people!

When Obama came up for office I thought our hopes and dreams as Americans had been answered, I felt so passionately about it, I worked for both of his grassroots movements. I made so many phone calls and knocked on doors I was so full of passion that he was going to change the world! Joe Biden even came to our campaign headquarters and I got to shake his hand, I thought How amazing is this! These 2 men will save this country!

As time went by I started to watch how our country became more and more divided, but in my mind, it was those EVIL Republicans doing it, because the Democrats work for us right? I was so confused I honestly felt lost because it wasn't making sense to me. Then when it came time to vote for the Democratic nominee, I voted Hillary and as a woman, I felt I had to vote for the woman it was my duty as a woman and as a Democrat and we had to beat Evil Trump! He was everything I hated, right? But I watched the news and I watched how my party was being overtaken by these hateful spiteful people who where trying to take the rights of free speech away who where beating people for speaking against them, who set fires and riots on campuses, because they didn't like the speakers, and how horrible my divided my country became and why, and just like that the veil was lifted from my eyes.  I saw things for what they really where and who truly was doing these things, and the evil Trump wasn't as evil as the news and people said he was. He actually was fighting for the same things I wanted to change! Talk about a slap in the face, It was like everything I knew all my life was a lie everything I was taught wasn't true.  I felt like I had just run into a wall because where do I belong now?  Who speaks for me and my family?

My boyfriend showed me a video of these college kids having an Anti-Trump Rally, and it was so full of hate and how they treated others who disagreed with them, and I said enough is enough and that's the day I walked away from the Democratic Party and changed my vote to Republican.  I still find myself sometimes feeling lost because I disagree with something the Republicans stand for that I don't. Then all I have to do is turn on the T.V. and be reminded that even though I might disagree with some things, I sure as heck don't agree with the Democrats.

I have lost family, I have lost friends because I support Trump, I have been called every name in the book and been told how much of a disgrace I am because I support him. Which just all goes back to why I walked away. Democrats aren't about helping one another and lifting others up when you have a difference of opinion, they are about conforming to their mindset and if you don't, then you're an evil hateful racist. As for me and my family, we will fly our American Flag every day, we will show Pride in our country and support our men and woman in uniform, and in 2020 we WILL be a household that Votes for TRUMP! “

Church at Upper Arlington Lutheran (Lytham Rd.) with liturgy, wonderful hymns (O worship the king, Rise up, O Saints of God, Beautiful Savior), challenging sermon by Joe Valentino, the Lord's table with anointing, and the choir singing, "Oh, how I love Jesus "(arr. Lloyd Larson). Then it's lunch and study with our church fellowship group, and a cello quartet recital later in the afternoon at Highlands Presbyterian church.

Guest Blogger Jeffrey outlines flaws in Ford’s story

A quick summary of Ford's credibility:

She refused to hand over the results of her polygraph.

She refused to hand over her 2012 Therapist’s notes.

She said she was afraid to fly, but has flown dozens of times.

Since she did in fact fly, she offered no other reason for the politically beneficial delay she insisted on.

She said she wanted anonymity but contacted WaPo multiple times.

Said she got advice from “beach friends” but didn't mention that the primary one was a former FBI lawyer, Monica McLean, who worked for Preet Bharara, a man Trump fired.

She also failed to mention, when talking of her Beach friends at the hearing, that Monica was sitting right behind her.

She had a perfect memory of 1982 but couldn't remember basic things from the previous 10 weeks.

She'd been drinking.

She changed the year of the alleged attack.

She named 4 people, but had no backers.

She couldn't remember how she got home even though her story had her escaping a house far from home, pre-cell phone.

No friend ever said "Hey you disappeared, where did you go? How'd you get home?" No one got an unexpected call from a payphone to pick her up.

She gave no location or any details that could be researched for verification.

She never told anyone of the incident nor claimed PTSD prior to Kavanaugh's name circulating 30 years later.

She said that she put the 2nd door on her house because of PTSD, but evidence shows it was to get around zoning laws to create a rentable apartment.

She said she didn't know that Grassley offered to come to her, even though it was broadcast nationally.

She feigned no knowledge of polygraphs even though her ex’s sworn statement said she'd coached Monica McLean how to beat it in the 1990s, and in any case her profession should have at least well acquainted her with it.

She claimed it was a repressed memory, something that is rare, disputed by experts, doesn't fit this profile, and is often conflated with the far more common false memory.

She co-authored a paper on repressed memory creation years before she claimed to have one.

Nothing is known of her pharmacology, but given her past alcoholism, her visits to a therapist and her general presentation, odds are high that it's extensive.

She scrubbed her social media, preventing checks on her credibility and biases.

We know from a pussy hat photo that she was rabidly anti-trump. The hat puts her in a 1-2% subgroup of extremists.

Extremists in general are not known for honesty or clarity of thought, but rather paranoia, which can lead to delusions and false conclusions. This subculture in particular is known for being "easily offended" which is often in fact, falsely offended.

She had zero family or friends with her, not from the 80s nor from today. She was surrounded only by Democrat Party Handlers.

Constant cries of bravery and “nothing to gain” vs a $700,000 GoFundMe and a career boosted a la Anita Hill. An instant hero within her chosen subculture.

Literally, all there is her word vs all of the above. Not a shred of evidence.

Second wave feminism and assault

Forty-five years ago I'd occasionally attend a "consciousness raising" group during the blossoming of second wave feminism. I wrote book reviews for a female publication put out by some OSU librarian-feminists. Women studies departments were being developed to capitalize on the interest. It was the era of “women’s lib.”  I don't recall the homes exactly, but they were in the OSU campus area. And were at night!  Sitting on the floor with our arms wrapped around legs seemed to be required, even if there was a free chair in the room. I may have attended with a woman in my neighborhood who was unhappy in her marriage to a professor, and later abandoned husband and children to go east and find herself. At least I can’t imagine I was so foolish to go into that area at night alone.  I think her name was Laura.

Even with a Russian major and all those Soviet history and literature courses I had, I didn't connect the dots between feminism and Marxism until much later when the movement leaders began dividing up women by black/white, gay/straight, young/old. At these meetings women would talk about their sadness at dashed dreams, boredom with being a stay at home mom, disappointment with career choices, anger with parents, boyfriends or husbands for not understanding. Heady stuff.

Not once did I ever hear a woman say she'd been assaulted, raped, or even abused. That’s not to say it wasn’t happening, just that no one said anything if it was.

Speculate this

The left assumes there are leakers running the show, but what if the FBI had already run that 7th investigation, already checked out the details of Ford's fake rape story (2 drunk teens rolling around on a bed with their clothes on), already had interviewed all Kavanaugh's friends (and enemies), already read the yearbooks, already had searched the archives of the various Maryland police departments, already interviewed her friends, her sex counselor, her ex-boyfriends, etc. What if the FBI already had been busy combing through the raveling threads of her fantasy before Flakey Jeff suggested a week's postponement? Just because it wasn't leaked to the NYT by someone inside the swamp, doesn't mean it didn't happen. So a shocked and subdued Di-Fi wants it sealed.

Latino physician crisis?

“California Latino physician crisis has found it will take upwards of five centuries to fully address the shortage of Latino doctors, imperiling the health and well-being of all Californians .”

I get some odd “diversity” “multicultural” “victim” “underserved”  and “racist” material dumped in my e-mail.  But did you know not having enough Latino doctors is going to kill Californians? Apparently, the current influx of illegal immigrants don’t plan to learn English so California needs more Spanish speaking doctors. How are more Spanish speaking doctors going to serve those Californians who speak Chinese, Tagalog and Vietnamese, Persian, Portuguese and Punjabi, and hundreds more who feel most at home with Swahili, Yiddish and Navajo? There are 112 languages in the Bay Area schools alone.

If Californians’ health is being imperiled it is their state government that is doing it—high taxation, over regulation and climate hysteria laws will probably drive doctors and potential doctors out of the state. 

We don’t need to have a specific percentage of Latino librarians, Latino auto mechanics, Latino lawyers, or Latino dog groomers to have an informed, safe, functioning society.  But the open borders and sanctuary cities are funneling criminals into Hispanic communities where it is easier for them to hide.  Planned Parenthood is killing a disproportionate number of minorities.  Some of the dead and dying will be Hispanic/Latino babies. In the U.S. combined, blacks and Hispanics accounted for 55.4% of the 405,795 abortions reported by race and ethnicity (2012).

  • 1. Before the hearings within minutes of the nomination, call Kavanaugh unqualified on camera. Fail.
  • 2. During the hearings, claim to know how he'll vote on unspecified cases not yet before the court on camera. Fail.
  • 3. Leak rumors to the press. Fail.
  • 4. Discuss sex abuse uncorroborated charges from 36 years ago claiming it's not really a trial, therefore OK to assume guilt on camera. Fail.
  • 5. Redefine groping to mean rape with help of #MeToo movement and social media. Fail.
  • 6. Find other accusers dug up by TV porn lawyer. Fail.
  • 7. Use scribbles in a high school year book as evidence of guilt for uncorroborated sex abuse charges. Fail.
  • 8. Demand that Kavanaugh not defend his reputation, record and family and ridicule his lack of masculinity which was the basis for 1-7. Fail.
  • 9. Demand a seventh FBI investigation to delay the confirmation. Fail.

The next day, my old man called me down to his office and he prescribed that red pill for me via a long persuasive talk about the cold hard truth behind politics. On election day, I voted for Bush.

In 2008, I was naïve enough to want to see history be made as we had a first-ever minority President in my lifetime. Due to the economic recession, I voted for Barack Obama. And then I enlisted into the United States Navy and that move gave me a whole brand new perception on life and on patriotism. We all had to live with eight years of one of the biggest mistakes I ever made by voting for Obama. And some of us voted for him twice. I didn't vote at all in 2012. The economy got even worse. Nothing in the urban areas improved. Race relations went backwards. Social media was crawling with fake armchair politicians who do nothing but post memes and report any and everyone with opposing views.

I am so thankful that this #WalkAway trend is spreading so widely and so quickly and I'm thankful that so many people have seen the light and have seen right through all the leftist liberal BS propaganda. The party that's all about "Love Trumps Hate" is ironically the same party that spreads more hate than anyone else in the United States and are riddled with the divide-and-conquer mentality. I walked away when I admittedly voted for Donald J. Trump in 2016 and I will surely vote for him again in 2020. All that money should have been spent on homelessness, education, medical research, cleaner fuels and the environment all issues the old left used to care about.
