Ann Coulter on the Tea Party

Why does the “caring” left discourage wealth?

The earthquake in Haiti was a magnitude of 7.0. According to Wikipedia, the 1989 Loma Prieta quake in San Francisco was either 7.0 or 6.9 depending on which scale is used. In other words, the intensities were fairly similar. Haiti is devastated. If the New York Times is correct, the death toll could be in the tens of thousands. The death toll in the 1989 quake was 63, if you include indirect deaths due the quake.

The difference is wealth. San Francisco is one of the wealthiest areas in our part of the world, while Haiti is the poorest. Poverty makes natural disasters worse. Wealth mitigates natural disasters. You would think that those who worry about the poor of the world would promote policies that increase wealth. Instead, they push policies that restrain wealth creation, and they do it intentionally and knowing it will restrain wealth creation.

Why do these people need subsidized phone service?

The program in Ohio cost $26.9 million in the first quarter of 2012, the most recent data available, versus $15.6 million in the same timeframe in 2011. Compared to the first quarter of 2011, the number of people in the program nearly doubled to more than a million.

Phone subsidy spending in Ohio photo

I lived for 71 years without a cell phone (I now have an old one on my son’s plan), and now I’m paying on my phone bill (land line) so cell phone companies get $10 for each low-income “customer?”  And the media ripped Romney for his 47% statistic that it’s hard to appeal to people on a lower taxes platform?

Economic reading, a list

It’s always the economy, Stupid, II

For me it's abortion, I admit I'm a single issue voter, and Obama is the most anti-life at both ends president we’ve ever elected. But for most Americans, who don’t even seem that concerned about our safety and security also heading for the toilet, it's the economy. And on that Obama has been flat out awful--going after healthcare instead of the economy when Democrats had 2 of the 3 branches of government. While people lost jobs, homes and hope. Never waste a crisis, and he's had plenty to play with--like right now in the Middle East. And he will keep his promise to destroy coal, part of Ohio's economy. And what do Ohioans do? Act stupid and support him.

Under Obama’s watch, black unemployment has gone from bad to worse. It was 12 percent when Obama took office, and now it’s 14 percent. Average black unemployment in Ohio last year was 17.2 percent, compared to 7.6 percent for whites and 8.8 percent for Hispanics and Latinos, according to the most recent annualized figures available from the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services. But employed, middle class black Ohioans, secure in public service positions with tenure or unions, will vote him another 4 years.

"As the U.S. unemployment rate hit 9.5% in June 2009 and a shocked public was looking for a response, the new president introduced the Affordable Care Act. Whatever else one may say about ObamaCare, it has nothing directly to do with U.S. employment. For the next nine months, as unemployment ran between 9.5% and 10%, Congress at Mr. Obama's insistence worked on his health-care legislation. When Mr. Obama signed the bill into law in March 2010, the unemployment rate was 9.8%. If an opponent wanted to describe this in partisan terms, he might say that the president legislated an entitlement dream while the economy burned." Daniel Henninger, It's always the economy, Stupid. Noted in the news—the mess in Syria

U.N. chief Ban Ki-moon called for an end to arms shipments to both sides in Syria’s brutal war between Western-backed rebels and the Bashir al-Assad dictatorship before the conflict spins out of control. President Obama, on the other hand, did not call for an end to the violence and bloodshed. Instead, he spoke out in favor of the rebels-many of whom are actually al-Qaeda affiliated foreign jihadists seeking to create an Islamist dictatorship- and vowed to continue supporting them in a bid to topple Assad’s dictatorship. Thousands of civilians have died, and Christians are being “ethnically cleansed.”

Never let a crisis go to waste as his advisors said.  He took over the health care industry while unemployment rose, people lost their jobs, their homes, and their hope and change.  They are probably too discouraged to vote, or think their government benefits depends on his good heart. His die-hard supporters who haven’t lost anything but maybe a raise or two, will blindly vote for 4 more years of this.

Don’t blame First Nanny.

Michelle Obama is getting a lot of blame for the unpopular features in some school lunch programs, First Nanny, etc. and maybe that's a popular political stance for the anti-Obama crowd, but this type of government manipulation of food and nutrition goes waaaay back, first for farmers to pay for over production after WWII, then the low-come and poor, and the last two decades for the middle class purchasing processed and food-away-from home. Here's testimony from early in the GW Bush administration (2003). At that time it was thought "educating" people through labeling, media campaigns, health literacy and promotion would reduce obesity. And perhaps it did, because obesity in children slowed down about 10 years ago.

http://www.surgeongeneral.gov/news/testimony/obesity07162003.html

Looking back 40 years to the 1960s, when many of us in this room were children, just over four percent of 6- to 17-year-olds were overweight. Since then, that rate has more than tripled, to over 15 percent. And the problem doesn’t go away when children grow up. Nearly three out of every four overweight teenagers may become overweight adults.

I’m not willing to stand by and let that happen. American children deserve much better than being condemned to a lifetime of serious, costly, and potentially fatal medical complications associated with excess weight.

The Real History of Slavery by Thomas Sowell

The following is a partial review of Thomas Sowell’s book, “Black Rednecks and White Liberals,” and appeared in the October 2005 issue of Freeman, a libertarian publication. Review is by Richard M. Ebeling.  I don’t know how successful this book was—seems to be a compilation of his columns which appeared in newspapers—and I don’t know if there were revisions.  It would be good to review the history of slavery, especially since in modern times, we now know it is a larger enterprise in the 21st century than it was in the 18th century because of selling sex, and cheap labor.  And just as Arabs sold black Africans to the Europeans from raids in the interior of Africa, so Muslims today are capturing and selling slaves in Africa and Asia.  So his conclusion (the reviewer, I assume) that ending it in the British Empire closed that chapter isn’t accurate.

“A related theme that Sowell discusses in a chapter on “The Real History of Slavery” is that the institution of human bondage is far older than the experience of black enslavement in colonial and then independent America. Indeed, slavery has burdened the human race during all of recorded history and everywhere around the globe. Its origins and practice have had nothing to do with race or racism. Ancient Greeks enslaved other Greeks; Romans enslaved other Europeans; Asians enslaved Asians; and Africans enslaved Africans, just as the Aztecs enslaved other native groups in what we now call Mexico and Central America. Among the most prominent slave traders and slave owners up to our own time have been Arabs, who enslaved Europeans, black Africans, and Asians. In fact, while officially banned, it is an open secret that such slavery still exists in a number of Muslim countries in Africa and the Middle East.

Equally ignored, Sowell reminds us, is that it was only in the West that slavery was challenged on philosophical and political grounds, and that antislavery efforts became a mass movement in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. Slavery was first ended in the European countries, and then Western pressure in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries brought about its demise in most of the rest of the world. But this fact has been downplayed because it does not fit into the politically correct fashions of our time. It is significant that in 1984, on the 150th anniversary of the ending of slavery in the British Empire, there was virtually no celebration of what was a historically profound turning point in bringing this terrible institution to a close around the world.’

George H.W. Bush lost the support of his party when he went back on his promise not to raise taxes and was defeated by Bill Clinton with  the help of Republicans who chased a 3rd party dream—Ross Perot.  But for Obama, it actually increases his support from die hard Democrats. They just love taxes!

Obama giving $450 million to Muslim Brotherhood, a terrorist organization

This is peanuts—he’s supporting a $4.8 Billion loan from International Monetary Fund.

The Obama administration notified Congress on Friday that it would provide Egypt’s new government an emergency cash infusion of $450 million, but the aid immediately encountered resistance from a prominent lawmaker wary of foreign aid and Egypt’s new course under the leadership of the Muslim Brotherhood.

The aid is part of the $1 billion in assistance that the Obama administration has pledged to Egypt to bolster its transition to democracy after the overthrow last year of the former president, Hosni Mubarak. Its fate, however, was clouded by concerns over the new government’s policies and, more recently, the protests that damaged the American Embassy in Cairo.

The United States Agency for International Development notified Congress of the cash infusion on Friday morning during the pre-election recess, promptly igniting a smoldering debate over foreign aid and the administration’s handling of crises in the Islamic world.

But would they be shocked by a 2nd trimester abortion?

Arms and legs are twisted off the body, lungs and heart ripped out and laid on the table to be reassembled after the head is removed.

The curator testified that animals had been euthanized in shocking ways at the Reston Zoo: Some were shot, rabbits were slammed into walls and chickens were fed to pythons.

But in a Fairfax County courtroom Friday, Ashley Rood said she reached her breaking point after uncovering evidence that the zoo’s director, Meghan Mogensen, had drowned an injured wallaby named Parmesan in a plastic bucket.

Washington Post, Sept. 29

“The D&E or Dilatation & Evacuation method was developed and largely replaced the above. It involves the live dismemberment of the baby and piecemeal removal from below.

A pliers-like instrument is used because the baby’s bones are calcified, as is the skull. There is no anesthetic for the baby. The abortionist inserts the instrument up into the uterus, seizes a leg or other part of the body, and, with a twisting motion, tears it from the baby’s body. This is repeated again and again. The spine must be snapped, and the skull crushed to remove them. The nurse’s job is to reassemble the body parts to be sure that all are removed.”

I’m a single issue voter—LIFE

I have a big ol' Thompson Chain Reference NIV Bible that I take to my Saturday class (we're doing Beth Moore's David). Because she was doing an armor of God passage, I looked up the "chain" topic to see what other passages had a similar meaning. The topic (374) BATTLE OF LIFE was in bold on the upper right hand of the page on the right hand side of the open Bible, a total of 4.5 columns (turning the page). Then I noticed the word on the upper left of the page on the left. BARAK. One verse. Can we say confirmation for this single issue voter?

                          Battle of Life

Susan Rice

The woman who went on five different Sunday talk shows a week ago to lie to the American people about the attack in Libya on
9/11, saying it was a spontaneous protest when the administration knew it was in fact a terrorist attack 24 hours after it occurred, skipped Israeli Ambassador Benjamin Netanyahu's speech yesterday at the U.N. General Assembly in New York City. U.S. Ambassador Susan Rice instead decided to go to a lunch with foreign ministers. There is no word on whether Rice's decision to skip Netanyahu's speech was spontaneous or planned in advance.

Is it a lie if everyone else knows the truth?

Kathleen McKinley, Houston Chronicle, 9-28-12

"We now know that Ambassador Susan Rice went on all Sunday news shows a week ago and knowingly lied to America by saying the Libyan attack was a protest that went wrong, and NOT a planned terrorist attack. The White House also falsely insisted that it was because of a video on Youtube. Not for a day or two, but for TWO WEEKS. The White House not only knew within 24 hours of the attacks that it was a planned terrorist attack, they also knew that Al Qaeda was most likely behind the attack."

Well, Yes, Kathleen, this is true, however, everyone knew the WH was lying.  I think I had it figured out the next day.  The harm is to his imploding reputation. Democrat presidents don't just lie about sex.

Major Crimes—it’s just not working for me

"I asked for season 7 of the Closer (DVD) for my birthday last week, which my daughter and son in law gave me when we went out to eat at the Rusty Bucket. Oops. My husband had started over with season one, is viewing one a day, so it may be after Christmas before I get to see it (we watch them together).  Yesterday he started season Two. He's the kind of guy who can put a package of double fudge brownies in the freezer and only eat one a day!"

Kyra Sedgwick the star of the Closer:

After seven seasons, the ratings keep going up. For some people, this would mean staying until viewers stopped watching. But Sedgwick was happy that fans are still begging for "The Closer" not to end. The 46-year-old admitted to the L.A. Times, "People come up to me all the time and go, 'Please! Don't! Why?' It's heartbreaking, and I feel badly about it, but I'm also thankful they're saying that and not, 'You're still doing that show? Oy!' It's so much better to leave having people want more."

Forty days of prayer

‎40 days of prayer (before the election) started today. When I googled this I found a lot of groups--Catholics, evangelicals, Baptists, and various ministries I've never heard of. I think I even saw that Planned Parenthood was doing some sort of prayer thing, which seems really odd. (Please God, send us more helpless babies? The coffers are getting low.) So I was in exercise class at UALC-Lytham, bored (I hate exercise), so I prayed while following the routine. Up with God, 2-3-4/down with debt 2-3-4; heal the nation 3-4/change our hearts 3-4.

Today, our nation faces multiple crises – pending economic collapse, moral disintegration, and international terrorism -- but all have spiritual underpinnings. Together, they are even more daunting than those Americans confronted in 1776, 1863 and 1941.

Now as then, our national survival is at stake.

Now as then, our destiny rests in God's hands. The crises confronting us are beyond the power of human beings to resolve without Divine guidance.

Nothing short of a Third Great Awakening can save us.

And then there was this one in the 40 days before the 2008 Election:

Whomever is elected, we must remember the words that Daniel spoke to a godless king, Belshazzar, many centuries ago. He said: “The Most High God is sovereign over the kingdoms of men and sets over them anyone he wishes.” (Daniel 5:21)

But this one, by Catholic Sistas, actually had a list of what to pray for.

Take back our language

The term “politically correct” has become very trite and is applied to everything from learning disabilities (“differently abled” for emotionally disturbed, disruptive students) or career choices (“sanitation engineer” for garbage truck driver).

Calmly speak the truth, and if you are called a racist, a homophobe or an Islamophobe when telling the truth, stop the assault, because that is what it is. You are being silenced, not with a loaded gun but with loaded words.

  • Being concerned about what Islamic leaders declare publicly about the destruction of Israel, is not Islam-hating or bigotry—it is citing their own sources and leaders—believe them;
  • saying Obama is a food stamp president is not racist—it is the policy of his own administration to actively recruit low income people to government programs—bonuses and stimulus money are used for this and it manipulates their loyalties;
  • supporting the Biblical definition of marriage is not gay bashing, it is God’s plan for the continuance of the human race with whom he wants to be in relationship, the very people for whom Jesus died.

One candidate DOES have time for Netanyahu!

543425_10151253100197650_1420938479_n[1]

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Mitt Romney to have foreign affairs conversation today.

President Obama refused to meet with Netanyahu on his trip to the United States, and the Israeli government presumably thought a meeting with the opposition candidate in the absence of one with the sitting president would be too provocative. But there was apparently an eagerness on the Israeli prime minister's part to talk with Romney in order to help win as broad American support as possible for the red lines he outlined in his United Nations speech with respect to the Iranian nuclear program.

As for Romney, he expects to explore Netanyahu's understanding of the red lines, and also, we are told, wants to hear Netanyahu's perspective on developments elsewhere in the Middle East.

Not sure if that important governmental advisory group, The View, has time for Romney.

The Obamas are worth about $12 million.  Maybe pikers compared to the Romneys but certainly the 1%, and a whole lot wealthier than you or me.  Neither Barack nor Michelle attended public schools, nor have their children.

An American physician speaks out

“All our life, my family has walked in the American way. We did not take anything from anyone. We never felt entitled. Instead, through our own hard work, we struggled for success.

My husband, Sheldon Adelson, a son of a poor Boston taxi driver, started his business life at the age of 12, and has achieved everything with his own hands. His companies have directly created more than 50,000 jobs and indirectly provided employment for hundreds of thousands of Americans and people around the world. These jobs have in turn supported an even greater number of families.

For my part, I have worked as a medical doctor for almost 40 years in the areas of internal, emergency and addiction medicine. In those years I have saved human life and helped countless individuals regain meaningful lives.

Our belief is that it is one’s right and obligation to rely on oneself, on one’s efforts, on one’s talent. This is the American way. This is the dignified way — to be an entrepreneur, not a follower; to rely on yourself, not to expect the government to take care of you; to strive to do your work by yourself, not to demand others do it for you.

And if you succeed, then your success is exactly what America is about — proof of the American dream!

But the American dream is possible because of certain fundamental rights that are conferred and protected by our Constitution.”

It’s time for a new economic patriotism—King Barack

But that one issue covers a lot of territory.  Enticing women to vote Democrat with free birth control pills?  Tacky.  Plus, for as long as they’ve been keeping track, the more birth control is made available, whether free or insurance or private money, the higher the abortion rate goes.  Now, if you can’t figure that one out, it’s back to Sex 101 for you.

The most anti-life President in the history of the United States, both as an Illinois senator and a U.S. senator, who has also expanded  the wars, personally selects his drone targets, not kept his promises to religious groups, and bowed to Muslim leaders who enslave women and imprison gays.

Tax money for the nation’s largest abortion provider (actually Nixon started that, so Obama is only expanding what a Republican started).

Destruction of the first amendment with the HHS Mandate—he began with religion which is the basis of free speech, and now he’s wimping out before Muslims over our constitutional right to free speech because they want Shariia.  Morsi, whom he helped put in power with his smiling approval of Arab Spring, is criticizing Obama’s defense.

Mother Teresa said that abortion is the biggest threat to world peace, and I agree. And your reasons for approving the killing of babies in the womb?

Romney’s ad—Ohio is coal country

http://www.mittromney.com/forms/bankrupt

“President Obama is attacking Mitt Romney because Mitt Romney supports coal miners.

In 2008, Barack Obama said building a coal-powered plant will bankrupt you. (voice over and video of that famous line)

President Obama wages war on coal while we lose jobs to China. We can’t afford four more years.”

Remember all those squirrely light bulbs the government is forcing us to buy?  Made in China.  In coal fired plants.  And it’s not even clean coal, and they are terrible polluters.

“CFLs are manufactured mostly in China with virtually no health, safety, or environmental protection regulations. Ironically, most of the electricity used to manufacture CFLs comes from coal-fired generators. As CFLs increase in popularity, mercury exposure to workers, to electricians, to maintenance personal, to consumers, to water supplies, and to the living environment, will go ahead almost unchecked.” http://lightbulbchoice.com/cfls-are-mercury-polluters/

Woman vandalizes pro-Israel poster

Mona Eltahawy screams at police: "What are you arresting me for?" For starters, spray painting walls in a subway, assaulting another citizen, pushing and shoving. Screaming at police. Resisting arrest. Stupidity? Racism? And she's a CNN and MSNBC favorite guest? I've never seen her, have to take their word for it. Her 5 minutes of fame.

However, I viewed the video, and it was not an anti-Muslim poster, it was pro-Israel, condemning Jihad.  So I don't know who wrote the headline. But we've twisted the English language so much, now supporting Israel is anti-Muslim; supporting traditional marriage is homophobic; saying Obama and Chicago in the same sentence is racist.

Remember the flap about Romney’s dog?

President Obama’s dog gets its own high-paid staffer:

“Bo made the news when he and his handler were flown to join the president on vacation in Maine,” Gray wrote about the Obama family dog. “It has been reported that the first family’s dog handler was paid $102,000, last year.”

That would be an excellent story to go along with the Romney dog carrier of 30 years ago. But I doubt that the media cares. I’m trying to think what a 40 hour week looks like for a “dog handler” of one dog.

Presidential Perks Gone Royal: Your Taxes Are Being Used For Obama's Re-election

Book

The food police are coming

Here is a frightening prospect:

"To have any chance of release from obesity's ever-tightening grip, the NATION will REQUIRE broad based efforts in every corner of society: homes, schools, community organizations, all levels of GOVERNMENT, urban design, transportation, agriculture, the food industry, the media, medical practice, and, without question, biomedical research."

JAMA Sept. 19, 2012 p. 1095

Any chart of the growth of the restaurant industry can show you the relationship between the modern women/feminist movement and obesity.   So maybe it’s up to moms to rein in the eating out, to spend a bit more time in the kitchen preparing food instead of opening packages, and stop driving the kids everywhere.  Actually, the childhood "obesity epidemic” stalled over a decade ago, but that hasn’t stopped the government intrusion in our lives.

The researchers can glamorize or sympathize, but the fact remains, a woman employed outside the home whose time is valuable, turns to restaurants/fast food outlets to feed her family.  Many women know nothing of the time short cuts or economic savings women of my generation learned from our mothers.

“The researchers acknowledge that food prepared in the home is nominally cheaper than purchasing food in restaurants. But in view of the value of time that must be devoted to shopping and cooking, as compared to the high-calorie, low-cost, mass-production meals available at ever-increasingly convenient locations (with ever diminishing travel and waiting time), the fast-food option appears to make good economic, if not health, sense.”

Tiller’s abortion clinic will reopen

It’s true that atheist dictators and despots have killed far more people (usually their own citizens/subjects) than all the wars Christians have fought over theology, liturgy, Christology, etc., however, if Christian abortionists like George Tiller (Lutheran) and the pro-choice Christians keep at it, they could surpass those killing fields.

“The Wichita-based non-profit group Trust Women Foundation Inc. purchased Tiller’s former clinic in late August, Executive Director Julie Burkhart said Wednesday.

Erin Thompson, an attorney for Tiller’s widow, confirmed the sale. “

I’m against the death penalty, whether it’s murder of an abortionist, murder of a pre-born baby, or the legal execution of a slime ball doctor who murdered his fellow soldiers at Ft. Hood.  But at least I’m consistent.  Are you?

An abortionist can make more money before noon in one day, than following one patient 7 months to deliver a live baby, and s/he doesn’t need to worry about being sue several years later if the baby isn’t perfect, smart, and athletic.

Ambassador and leading candidate for Secretary of State in a second Obama term: "What happened initially was that it was a spontaneous reaction . . . as a consequence of the video, that people gathered outside the embassy and then it grew very violent."

Romney’s freedom message

The Clinton Global Initiative gives Mitt Romney a STANDING OVATION for his talk this week on sustaining economies. He begins with inspiration from the Tunisian fruit vendor whose suicide catalyzed the Arab Spring. Romney proposes solutions to despair and fanaticism. How? Job opportunities. The rule of law. Fair trade. Property rights. Prosperity pacts. "The right moral course ... Coupling aid with trade." So worth watching though 15 minutes. [Kelly Monroe Kullberg]

Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney proposes linking foreign aid to economic reforms abroad at the Clinton Global Initiative meeting on Tuesday.

90% of Obama’s problems are Bush’s—he says

On 60 minutes Obama surprised even his supporters by only accepting 10% of the blame for the economy. Washington Post Fact Checker goes through this morass rather carefully and gives him four Pinocchios (the maximum), the little dummy with the long nose that grew with lies. The very long article concludes with some sadness that it is time for him to start accepting some responsibility for the mess—and the consequences of the healthcare law will be killers.

Clearly, a huge part of the deficit problem — about half — stems from the recession and forecasting errors. But Obama’s policies represent a big chunk as well. (We would welcome suggestions for fine-tuning these numbers.)

Now one could argue, as Obama’s defenders do, that his policies to combat the recession were intended to be temporary. But he has also supported permanently extending the Bush tax cuts for Americans making less than $250,000, which by itself will shrink federal revenues for years to come. That means these are no longer Bush’s tax cuts, but Obama’s.

Moreover, an important part of Obama’s legacy — the health-care law — has not even taken full effect yet. The CBO calculated virtually no impact on the deficit in the first 10 years after enactment, but all bets are off after that.

Finally, Obama claims that “we have actually seen the federal government grow at a slower pace than at any time since Dwight Eisenhower.” We regret to say that the president is repeating a widely debunked column that appeared on MarketWatch earlier this year. We devoted three columns to the column’s faulty logic, and FactCheck.org and the Associated Press also said it was bunk. (PolitiFact said it was “half true.”)

Not to get too deep in the weeds again, but the claim is based on treating 2009 (as we said, an amalgam of Bush and Obama policies) as actually Bush’s year, and then ignoring Obama’s proposed spending increases in the future. Such calculations help to dramatically shrink the growth of spending under Obama relative to other presidents.

How to keep a woman poor—government entitlements

As the above chart – via Gary Alexander, Pennsylvania’s secretary of Public Welfare — shows, the single mom is better off earning gross income of $29,000 with $57,327 in net income and benefits than to earn gross income of $69,000 with net income & benefits of $57,045.

It would sure be tempting for that mom to keep the status quo rather than take the new job, even though the new position might lead to further career advancement and a higher standard of living. I guess this is something the Obama White House forgot to mention in its “Life of Julia” cartoons extolling government assistance.

They are coming after other rights after taking this one from you

"Contraceptive and other mandates have been levied on Catholic institutions by American legislators and courts, which argue that the “right” to contraception takes precedence over religious freedom. Future government mandates are likely to include assisted suicide and recognition of same-sex marriages. By agreeing to these mandates, Church representatives risk grave imputability in the wrongs of others, as defined by canon law. Sponsors of employee benefit plans which include contraceptive coverage risk canonical penalties because payment contributions indicate immediate material cooperation with an intrinsic evil. Furthermore, by collaborating even under protest, the Church encourages further government intrusions on religious freedom. Executive summary, "Contraceptive Mandates and Immoral Cooperation" by Marie T. Hilliard, JCL, Ph.D., R.N

If you are a protestant, no one's in charge, no one will tell you about evil or collaborating with the government, so on this you may have to trust the one church with the most experience and age. But whatever direction your church takes, this isn't the end--he will come for more and more.  Don't believe me?  When was the last time your church was allowed to evangelize while feeding the poor? Teaching English to foreigners? Roofing a home in a deteriorating neighborhood?

It’s a gift basket to run against them—why not open it?

“Every Republican claims to be against "Obamacare." But "Obamacare" isn't a single issue. It's a gift basket to a Republican campaign stuffed with everything Americans hate about big government. Look, here's a punitive mandate. And here's a consolidation of power in the bureaucracy. And this greasy-palms crony capitalism should be helpful. Not to mention a trampling of religious liberty, a technocratic advisory board with authority over Medicare cuts, a heinous new tax on medical devices that starts next year, and more than 1,200 waivers issued to lucky (and mostly unionized) businesses.

The gigantic, shambling abomination that is Obamacare contains so much ammunition for conservatives that the NRA should be scoring it.”  Matt Purple

Who said pro-choice people made sense?

The Adoption Triad refers to 3 kinds of adults in a family constellation--a birth mother, an adoptive parent(s), and an adoptee (unfortunately, these cases usually leave out the birth father, although not always, and this distain for fathers has leaked into the general culture). Life issues don't always come out as you would expect. You would think all of them would be pro-life, or pro-adoption, but that's not the case. Our president is the son of an unmarried, teen mother facing great discrimination for her choice to give life to her bi-racial baby. He of all people should be pro-life, given that about 40% of abortions are for black girls and women. Some liberals hope more abortions will reduce crime and poverty. It's a high price for a little one to pay for society's mistakes and sins.

Does the government make children fat?

"With over seventeen million children living in food insecure households and one out of every three children in America now considered overweight or obese, schools often are on the front lines of our national challenge to combat childhood obesity and improve children’s overall health." From the Healthy, Hunger Free Act.

Somehow, putting "obese" and "food insecure" together clashes in my mind. Many low income children come from households blanketed with government programs. Now the schools have to undo that too? During the Clinton years, it took a village. Now it takes the USDA, HHS, HUD, EPA and Michelle Obama.

Democrat women don’t care about the last 4 years?

“We’ll continue doing what we have been doing, trying to get the president’s message out on the ground. Whether it’s in the suburban areas of Northern Virginia, or Denver, Ohio, to talk about what the president wants to do in the future. That’s the other thing that you find most often with women. They’re not really concerned about what’s happened over the last four years, they really want to know what’s going to happen in the next four years,” Obama deputy campaign manager Stephanie Cutter said to guest host Susan Page on the Diane Rehm Show today.

With women like this on his staff, Obama has a War on Women with female generals. Apparently, Democrat women are too dumb to worry about the last 4 years (increasing unemployment, expanding wars, exploding middle east, inflation, rising tuition costs, declining home values, etc.) they only care about the next 4 years and getting free contraception.  Republican women, however, have a different perspective.

Ohio Voter Integrity Project

The Franklin Co. Board of Elections voted 3-0 to reject a request to remove 308 people from the list of registered voters for a variety of reasons, including being dead and empty lots for addresses. The Board hadn't yet been notified of the deaths, Ohio Voter Integrity Project was told.

Only Ohio Democrats seemed concerned that VIP might be removing people not eligible, even though the requests do not depend on party, but on correct addresses.  Every legal voter should demand clean registration rolls.

iPhone 5

The demand for iPhone is causing riots in China at Foxconn, employer of some 1.1 million Chinese workers. It also supplies products for companies such as HP, Dell and Microsoft. Have we seen that in Obama ads about jobs going overseas? No. His administration is hoping this gooses the economy.

Workers at Foxconn are so miserable there have been 17 suicides and there are nets on the buildings. Work, sleep, eat--all in the same building. I've seen factory farm chickens that look happier.

Wang Zhiqian, who used to work on Foxconn’s production line and now recruits workers for the company. “We attract many fewer workers now than in 2010. People would rather work at a hotel or other places. It’s not a lack of workers in these areas, it’s a problem of spiritual emptiness.”

Wang and others describe work days that routinely extend three hours into overtime, leaving little opportunity to do anything after hours but sleep, and little talk among the workers, who stew in their frustrations.

“It’s definitely not a happy place,” he said.

Bishop asked to suspend forums led by pro-Obama supporter

“Cleveland Right to Life has issued a formal letter to Cleveland Bishop Richard Lennon asking him to suspend the Diocese's "Faithful Citizenship" meetings on the grounds of their disregard for pro-life issues.

"As a pro-life woman and a Catholic, I am appalled," notes Molly Smith, President of Cleveland Right to Life. "Our Church is under attack by the most liberal, pro-abortion leadership in history. The Cleveland Catholic Diocese is missing a great teaching and unifying opportunity by responding in this manner."

Faithful Citizenship meetings were organized by the Diocese of Cleveland with the goal of aiding Catholics in preparing themselves to vote this November. The forums, led in part by open Obama-supporter Karen Leith, downplay abortion and religious freedom, issues of irreducible importance to Catholic voters.

Incumbent President Obama is undoubtedly the pro-abortion candidate on the ballot for November's presidential election, having supported more initiatives to increase abortion than any other president and having worked hand-in-hand with organizations like Planned Parenthood and NARAL Pro-Choice America. The Faithful Citizenship meetings disregard the pro-abortion stance of both President Obama and Senatorial Candidate Sherrod Brown.

Ohio Right to Life and Cleveland Right to Life ask that all pro-life Ohioans stand together in asking that the Bishop of the Diocese of Cleveland defend life in this crucial time leading up to what will be a pivotal election for our country.”

What is this called?

100_2650

It’s a kitchen tool from my stove drawer, and I think I’ve had it at least 51 years.  I think its purpose is to remove hot things from water—like baby bottles being sterilized—something we used to do, when we moms made formula.  For the last few decades I’ve only used it occasionally—probably for salads or to pull something hot out of the oven or microwave. But I don’t know what it’s called.

I was watching YouTube and an OB-GYN, Dr. Levantino, speaking on Priests for Life while rather drily describing a 2nd trimester abortion (D & E), of which he’d done several hundred. He was using fetal models, but had the actual tools to dilate the cervix and invade the uterus (that’s a medical term—invade—not kidding).  My tool has some semi-sharp teeth for griping, but his were very pointed and sharp  and straight,  less curving.  He described going into the uterus with the tool, grabbing an arm or leg of a living baby with those sharp teeth, all by feel since he can’t see what he’s doing, and twisting and pulling, until a little arm or leg came out. The limb or heart or lung was then laid on a tray because after the abortion, all the pieces had to reassembled or the woman/girl could hemorrhage.

I don’t think I’ll use this tool again.

How many pro-choice voters, who send donations to Planned Parenthood, the largest provider of abortions in the U.S.,  know what goes on during an abortion?  The doctor said sometimes he pulled out a little face that was looking back at him.

Stop beating up Mitt Romney

A friend via e-mail says:  “I support Mitt Romney because... should be our mantra... And perhaps his campaigning tactics aren't quite right on, so what are we doing about it? Do we agree with Obama and what he has done in his campaign? Does a true, leader's test come directly from misleading a country for almost 4 years and topping it off with damming campaigns about our country's status, about his opponent?

Think about what Obama will do IF he is re-elected! He will have unfettered reign over all policies...cap and trade, taxes, oil drilling (what a joke!), our Constitutional rights, and will he re-write the 2-term limit of the presidential office.

As we focus on the real issues, we all need to read the statements that the candidates make about policies regarding the issues. For instance, I am outraged by how Obama, Clinton, etc. have swept under the rug the attack on our embassy in Libya and the killing of our ambassador, Ambassador Stevens. No one is really crying out about this, yet we, the United States, were attacked! What about Israel? Arms control across the world? Have you seen Obama's actions/words in regard to these situations? And what do you think about them...?

These are questions for both candidates and if everyone would examine their conscious as to their beliefs, then examine the candidates' records and policies, the choice should be clear. We are brighter than what the media plays us to be...let's show them that!”

This woman has a real truth problem in her personal and professional life (also claimed to be the first nursing mother to take the bar exam, although how you prove or disprove this, I don't know). Killing Ohio’s economy while adding to your utility bills

We shouldn’t be surprised by what’s happening [laying off 1200 coal miners]. Obama told us his disastrous plan for the coal industry and affordable electricity on the campaign trail in 2008. “If someone wants to build a new coal-fired power plant they can, but it will bankrupt them,” candidate Obama said then. “Electricity rates would necessarily skyrocket,” he added.

Noise, Mr. President?

PRESIDENT OBAMA: "Well—look, I have conversations with Prime Minister Netanyahu all the time. And I understand and share Prime Minister Netanyahu's insistence that Iran should not obtain a nuclear weapon, because it would threaten us, it would threaten Israel, and it would threaten the world and kick off a nuclear arms race."

STEVE KROFT: "You’re saying, you don't feel any pressure from Prime Minister Netanyahu in the middle of a campaign to try and get you to change your policy and draw a line in the sand? You don’t feel any pressure?"
...

"When it comes to our national security decisions—any pressure that I feel is simply to do what's right for the American people. And I am going to block out—any noise that's out there. Now I feel an obligation, not pressure but obligation, to make sure that we're in close consultation with the Israelis—on these issues. Because it affects them deeply. They're one of our closest allies in the region. And we’ve got an Iranian regime that has said horrible things that directly threaten Israel’s existence."

Many women are forced to abort

But this one was murdered.  Her baby survived, but has cerebral palsy.

It is estimated that about 65% of women who abort are forced by boyfriends, husbands, parents, or peer pressure.  This is choice? This is why you’re sending money to Planned Parenthood?

What can one person do? Pray, says Max Lucado

In the gym, the church parking lot, Starbucks—everywhere I go, I hear the same question: “What can I do about the condition of our country?” Declining moral standards. Economic turmoil. Seemingly endless bickering and posturing of our leaders. More than ever before, citizens are concerned about the future of our nation. The presidential election is drawing near and we wonder, “What can I do?”

Here is the answer: pray. During times of national concern, our first and foremost task is prayer.

Look at what happens when the War on Poverty kicks in during the mid-1960s. Whoosh.  Onward and upward.  And look what happens when the two Bushes are in the White House.  Growth in federal subsidies.  So if we elect Romney, we may save the country from being turned over to radicals, or Muslims, or Communists working inside the government, but I don’t think we’ll save a lot of money.

Dissing Catholicism

"There were a lot of bad speeches at the Democratic National Convention, but Caroline Kennedy's speech was the low point in many ways. She got up on a national stage and used her professed Catholic faith to justify and actually demand the preservation of grave evils that the Church explicitly condemns. She presented lies for the truth, and tried to justify it with her Catholic faith." Jennifer Hartline, Catholic Online.

I know way too many Christians who justify Obama's policies with their private interpretations of the Bible or the church (any church, pick one), ignoring Abortion and the HHS Mandate which destroys their first amendment rights. Look out boomers, you'll be next—first free contraception and abortions on the front end, then he’ll start at the other end with killing them with kindness euthanasia. What makes you so special if others aren’t?

Lyndon Baines Johnson and the 1957 Civil Rights Act

LBJ was one of the best and cagiest politicians and presidents America has ever known.  He was a consistent racist and fought Civil Rights legislation, but as the Republican president and war hero Dwight Eisenhower  pushed the 1957 Civil Rights legislation Johnson became convinced he needed to throw African Americans a bone, not unlike modern day Democrats who keep blacks on a short, tight leash.  Today he is hailed and admired for the 1964 Civil Rights Act.  And children are not taught an accurate version of U.S. history.  To the victor belongs the archives, as we librarians say.

"These Negroes, they're getting pretty uppity these days and that's a problem for us since they've got something now they never had before, the political pull to back up their uppityness. Now we've got to do something about this, we've got to give them a little something, just enough to quiet them down, not enough to make a difference. For if we don't move at all, then their allies will line up against us and there'll be no way of stopping them, we'll lose the filibuster and there'll be no way of putting a brake on all sorts of wild legislation. It'll be Reconstruction all over again."

Johnson was recorded on a White House taped (and saved) conversation claiming, “I’ll have them niggers voting Democratic for the next two hundred years.”  How true and perceptive.

Just another Chicago politician

Dr. Conrad Worrill is an African-American educator, activist and former radio talk show host on Chicago's African-American-oriented station WVON. He told the Examiner that Obama was an inspirational speaker who moved people. But in the end, he became just another Chicago politician.

"His rise in politics, his trajectory in politics has led him to make adjustments in his political decision-making. And that's the case with many politicians. So he's no different from many others in that regard. He's a politician," Worrill said.

If you could go back and interview your 2008 self

He never counted, but it was very profitable

“Unlike some of the other speakers, I have never been involved in a large-scale abortion mill, a business (and it is a business, don't kid yourselves) that was set up for the sole purpose of performing abortions. My experiences are perhaps a little more universal in terms of obstetricians and gynecologists in the country who were trained to do abortions during their residencies and then continued doing so as a part of their private practice, but not even the major part. Certainly it was never a major part of our private practice.

My partner and I, however, were relatively important in the Albany area for one infamous fact, which to this day I regret. Our group was just about the only group that was performing late abortions, D&E procedures, Dilatation and Evacuation. And we received referrals from all over the area in our part of the state from not only just the doctors in Albany and Schenectady, but from neighboring counties 70 to 80 miles away. We had a lot of patients.

I've never actually counted. I'm glad I can't say that I'm responsible for 50,000 plus abortions, but I know I've done hundreds of the procedures, and that's direct, hands-on involvement, as Mr. Scheidler said, with the forceps in your hand, reaching into somebody's uterus and tearing out a baby.

People ask, why do doctors do abortions? Many of the reasons have come out already, and I am going to amplify them. It's profitable, a lot of money in it! One way to make abortion less available is to make it unprofitable, and there are probably a lot of ways you can do that. . .

In my practice, we were averaging between $250 and $500 for an abortion, and it was cash. That's the one time as a doctor you can say, either pay me up front or I'm not going to take care of you. It's totally elective. When a woman comes to me and is pregnant, and her husband's lost a job, and maybe their insurance isn't in effect, we won't turn her away. But when somebody's going to have an abortion, it's an elective procedure. Either you have the money or you don't, and they get it.

You can go in on a Monday morning, do three or four abortions (the procedure itself doesn't take five or six minutes), clean up the room, make room for the next patient, put her in. I'll be out of there in two hours; be out in time for lunch; nobody's going to call me at night; and I almost never, never have to worry about her lawyer ever bothering me. And I'm going to make the same amount of money as if I did one delivery with all those months of work [for a live birth]. Now, who's the fool? The ProLife obstetrician or the abortionist?”

Democrat Lyndon B. Johnson created the problem

527336_10151256376238417_1466311300_n[1]

There has never been a politician smarter and more sly than Lyndon B. Johnson who as senator in 1954 is the one who stuck this trick into the tax code, to keep some non-profits from campaigning him. Before that, churches were not 501C3 organizations. However, even though churches use the tax code as their reason for NOT speaking out against abortion or same sex marriage and other issues even those on the local scene like bond issues, I personally think it is the collection plate they fear.

This is why it’s important to read the bill, Nancy.

This will never happen

Paula Priesse fantasizes a bit now that Romney has shown his tax records showing 30% for charity.

“Mr. President, your party has falsely accused me of not paying taxes. I have proven otherwise. Since you brag about being the most transparent administration ever, Americans demand to see your college transcripts! NOW!!!”

Me too, Sister (editorial by Sister One of 2 Sisters on the Right)

As the Presidential election approaches, and we see that the polls show the candidates to be either neck and neck or with a variance of one or two points we, wonder how this could be possible. President Barack Obama has proven himself to be inept, unprepared for the presidency, and above all he has a background of socialist indoctrination. His family, his mentors, all taught him to resent capitalism and to embrace Socialism.

As someone who grew up in the United States of America enjoying all the freedoms guaranteed by our United States Constitution, I am baffled, astonished, bewildered, that so many Americans seem to have accepted and support the tenets of socialism which are so opposite to our values as a constitutional republic.

The War on Poverty has created dependency which in turn creates poverty which creates. . .

War on Poverty began January 1964.   Birth control pills were  introduced in the early 1960s which increased the need for abortion which became legal in 1973.

Let’s make it easier for military to vote; harder for dead and illegals.

“Military members and their spouses have long faced challenges when they vote. Unlike many Americans, military families are constantly on the go moving from one duty location to another. The frequency and unexpected nature of these moves have increased as our men and women in uniform have fought in Iraq and Afghanistan. For most military families, if they have any hope of voting, they are forced to navigate a confusing state absentee ballot process.

Unfortunately, most military families do not successfully navigate this process—a fact repeatedly evidenced in recent elections. In 2008, for example, less than 20 percent of 2.5 million military voters were able to request and return their absentee ballots and have that ballot counted. In 2010, that number dipped to 4.6 percent.”

Family Friday Photo—Third Cousins once removed

009

010 - Copy

About a decade ago Jeanie decided to research her roots, and discovered the George family of Pennsylvania from which I am also descended.  Her great-great grandfather Cornelius and my great grandfather David were brothers and both settled in Illinois.  Their sister Mary Anne lived in Iowa in the mid-19th century,  and in the 1990s her granddaughter wrote a huge family genealogy.  Jeanie’s family wasn’t in it, we think because her grandmother married outside the culture, and we knew nothing about her branch of the family tree.  But we’re all connected now, in part because of the internet which makes things much easier.  I had some family memorabilia from Cornelius’ family (the woven blanket, pottery from the 1840s, 1850s) and a pastry wheel from the early 19th c.  that was made for Mary Knopp George, a Danner descendent, the brothers’ mother.  So I gave them to Jeanie and she has two small museums in mind for them. We had such a delightful day together looking over old photos and comparing notes.  She’s a much more determined genealogist than I am and actually goes to historical sites, cemeteries, and court houses—and to distant cousins several states removed.

That made fewer people depending on the government, and for Obama that was bad, so he changed the definition of work. The Congressional Research Service, not Fox News, not Rush Limbaugh, found that the number of able-bodied Americans on food stamps exploded following changes to the work requirement by the Obama administration.

Thank you, Mitt Romney, for drawing attention to the culture of dependency. Romney's 47% comments offended some conservatives because those on Social Security and Medicare have already paid for those benefits, but the fact remains, the direction we're going is unsustainable.

What did you do to fight for America?

David Webb writes:  “Someday my child may ask me ... Dad what did you do to fight for America? My answer will begin with, I took a stand, I took action as best I could, I brought others to our righteous cause, I wanted to be able to answer your question.

What’s a little crime among Democrats?

TEN-TERM Congresswoman Maxine Waters? Her ethics charges are being dropped by the Democratic leadership of the HOUSE. She didn't MEAN ANY HARM WHEN SHE WENT DIRECTLY TO THE TREASURY DEPARTMENT to advocate for loans for the bank where her husband is on the BOARD OF DIRECTORS. But her Chief of Staff, who is also her grandson, might be in a little trouble.

The Ethics Committee paid the lawyer $1.3 million—that’s our money.  If a Republican has his foot over the line in the men’s room, he’s history.  She gets to steal . . .

We could use Calvin Coolidge today

Obama demeans and criticizes the successful—except the crony capitalists and celebrities who are contributing to his campaign.

Liberals can mock Mormons, not Muslims

Why the double standard? It's OK to mock Mormons, to even attend the play, but Muslims need TLC?
The Book of Mormon—a performance of which Hillary Clinton attended last year, without registering a complaint—comes to mind as the administration falls over itself denouncing Innocence of Muslims. This is a film that may or may not exist; whose makers are likely not who they say they are; whose actors cl aim to have known neither the plot nor purpose of the film; and which has never been seen by any member of the public except as a video clip on the Internet. No matter. The film, the administration says, is hateful and offensive (Susan Rice), reprehensible and disgusting (Jay Carney) and, in a twist, disgusting and reprehensible (Hillary Clinton).
