When the definition doesn’t fit the reality

Define SMART GROWTH: Well-planned development that protects open space and farmland, revitalizes communities, keeps housing affordable and provides more transportation ...

You know the buzz words: sustainability, community, affordability, green spaces, multiple use, stewards of the earth, carbon neutral, yada yada. It all translates into less housing for the poor and low income, and more wealth for government officials and developers.

Yes, there is a gap between blacks and whites and blacks and Hispanics when it comes to home ownership and the greening of the housing industry will set that in stone, with those on the lower end never able to catch up--unless they are part of the Chicago elite housing bureaucracy like Valerie Jarrett.

Note to Marfis: Being ignorant doesn't keep you off my blog, but being rude and ignorant does. If you don't believe the studies of what eminent domain, public housing, urban planning, free ways through neighborhoods, welfare for generations, and other well intentioned but disastrous programs have done to families and business, reading this little blog won't change your mind.

It is interesting that my comments were not deleted until I questioned your concluding that I want to keep minorities "on the rez" because I posted information showing that they are, in fact, increasing their home ownership.

Your first comment was rude. The rez comment made no sense without it, so it was removed too. I certainly didn't say housing hadn't increased among minorities. It has, along with a huge number of foreclosures. Many very wealthy minority families also take advantage of all the set asides for the well to do that keep the modest income homes out.
