Diversity Equity Inclusion in higher education

"Diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives in higher education involve a range of objectionable elements, such as giving preferential treatment to job candidates from particular race and gender groups and generating a massive administrative staff that encroaches on faculty autonomy and attempts to structure and surveil even informal campus interactions." City Journal, Oct. 18, 2022  DEI Statements: Empty Platitude, or Litmus Test? | City Journal (city-journal.org)

Diversity means division.
Equity is inequality
Inclusion is exclusion.

D.E.I. departments are establishing tribalism in our country not based on kinship or blood ties, but on color and sex. Look how tribalism is working out in Africa. There are major civil wars in two African countries, Ethiopia and South Sudan, both with majority Christian populations and most people killing each other are the same race (just like Europe for many centuries). There are 83 tribes in Ethiopia and over 60 in South Sudan. If you are a member of a small tribe, you'll never get ahead unless a relative comes into power, then it's easy street.

And further, the acronym should be D.I.E. because that is the wish of the bureaucrats in the universities who have sent their graduates out to poison corporations which now also have DIE departments.

Gimme some of that

The St. Louis Federal Reserve website has an "Economic Equity Series" within its publications category. "Podcast about advancing a more inclusive and equitable economy." Sorry, Charlie, the job's already finished! Just watch the ads on TV. All the actors (and I assume writers, directors, stage managers, set designers, camera operators, editors, and producers) are 99% black and/or the occasional Asian or Hispanic. You can see for yourself that American blacks drive Mercedes, vacation in $100,000 RVs, wait in line for Starbucks $10 coffee, grill in the back yards of multimillion dollar homes with neighbors of all makes and models, wear designer clothes, visit the doctor and dentist regularly, and travel to exotic locations. The only white actors are filling the roles of the farmers, plumbers, wind shield replacers and gutter cleaners. Not only are the upper middle class consumers black, but the servers and salespeople are too! It's amazing how since May 2020 America has become so woke that there are no more "marginalized and poor" people of color. That must look pretty good to those border jumpers from 160 countries rushing our southern border.

The equity is that because most of the poor and marginalized 13% in the USA are actually white, the low income blacks can now sit in front of the TV just like low income whites and wonder how they can get on that gravy train.

Microaggressions and Me at Ohio State University

Hmmm.  What do you suppose this workshop, Microaggressions and Me, is really about, and who will be held accountable? I saw this wokeness notice at the Ohio State onCampus for May 5, 2022.  I don't know if it is a trial program waiting for compulsory status or if it's permanent and for credit. Something to keep the huge, multi-million dollar staff in the Diversity office busy?  But wait, first you must have Microaggressions 101 and 102!

Diversity never means ideological or political diversity; it's never about the persecution or discrimination of Christians. As values to live by diversity, inclusion and equity aren't useful. Look at the biggest news stories of the moment--the Russian and Ukrainian War.  Same race, color, religion, history, fashion, architecture, music, athletic events etc.  Yet there is a war.  How many of the reasons were microaggressions?  Or the abortion conflict--the leaking of a draft of a SCOTUS decision.  Is the death of millions a microaggression or a holocaust? Is putting aside a horrid decision of the 1970s really a microaggression?  Yet it's all the talk today.

How long before this is compulsory for all students and staff--although there is already something like that. They've done that, plus had that mobile "Check your Blind Spots" reeducation unit.  The College of Food Agriculture and other departments already have their own D. I. E. units. It's permanent employment for the Black Studies and Women Studies of the old days and more recently, Queer Studies graduates to get jobs. Could be victimology 101.   https://cfaesdei.osu.edu/ .  I was blogging about the various workshops and reeducation camps offered by OSU in 2010. So is it any wonder that the kids went out from academe to populate the corporations to create "wokeness." We librarians had workshops in the 90s on how to give better service to foreign born, non-English speaking students, and students/staff with disabilities, but that was nothing compared to this brainscrubbing of the diversity czars.   https://collectingmythoughts.blogspot.com/2010/11/diversity-unity-and-multiculturalism.html  Ohio State also has a DISCO program with 8 departments "to foster understanding about the possibilities and complications of social differences related to gender, race, ethnicity, class, sexuality, dis/ability, etc., and their intersections."

"Microaggressions and Me Workshop

Many of us wonder how we can intervene when we experience or witness a microaggression. But what do we do when someone tells us we are the person enacting a microaggression? How do we hold ourselves and each other accountable empathetically and consistently? This workshop offers participants an opportunity to reflect on the ways all of us can perpetuate microaggressions and explore how to move forward once we’ve been made aware of the microaggressions we perpetuate. Presented by ODI's Strategic Diversity Planning, Training and Assessment unit (to be attended after Microaggressions 101 and 102)."

The No-Fear Act

Today when I was looking up some COVID19 statistics at the CDC site, I noticed something at the bottom of the page called the "No-FEAR" Act. Have you heard of that? Trust me, President Trump hasn't removed all the ridiculous red tape and piles of useless paperwork in DC. "The Notification and Federal Employee Antidiscrimination and Retaliation Act of 2002 is a United States federal law that seeks to discourage federal managers and supervisors from engaging in unlawful discrimination and retaliation. It is popularly called the No-FEAR Act, and is also known as Public Law 107–174."

I'm not sure where the final total of these discrimination and retaliation reports goes, but every government department and agency seems to be required to fill them out. . . quarterly. Then annually, then compare them to the last 4 years (at least that's all I found so I was looking at annual totals from Obama years also). I didn't investigate in depth--only about 10 minutes. What I found out from the agencies I looked at is that it takes about 200 days to investigate a complaint (race, color, religion, reprisal, sex, PDA, national origin, equity pay, age, genetics (?), awards ). The biggest complaints seemed to be performance evaluations and non-sexual harassment. There were miniscule number of filings considering the size of some of the agencies, and in most cases there were zero findings of discrimination and retaliation. Maybe if you complain about your boss, the investigation and findings would be to get demoted to this awful job.

Where did all this divisiveness and anger come from? Academe.

Got problems? Look at academe. Every protest you see today--race, gender, homophobia, gaps--all begin in academe. She warned us with this book in 2018, it was oozing and boiling then and most of us ignored it or laughed at the snowflakes. It's also affecting how the Covid19 virus is being handled.

Are you a coward or just a racist?

Have you seen the hand lettered signs "Silence is violence?" It's the opposite of what it says. That means you aren't allowed to speak your truth at all, you can only bow and scrape. In fact, your silence is compliance and acceptance of the racism myth and that as a white person you are evil. "Silence is compliance." A Catholic priest in Carmel, Indiana, is the Bonhoeffer of our times. He's telling it like it is. He's not being silent. He actually called out the rioters and looters. Called them names! Melted a few snowflakes. Support him by not being silent about this insanity.

I realize you may not be retired like I am, you don’t have a monthly pension, so you're afraid to speak out--might loose your job. Or friends. It doesn't matter if my pastor sees my criticism of the church--he has no idea who I am. You tell me on the QT that you support everything I write but, . . you must be silent. I do understand, really, and thanks for the private messages. I'm not posting for glory or likes. I post the truth. But please stop being cowards. You are letting them destroy Columbus (or whatever city you live in). You know they won't stop with the removal of the Columbus statue, or the stand down order of the police, don't you? That just encourages them. It's like whacking a hornets nest--they won't go away. And NO, you are not safe in UA or Worthington or Hilliard.

When OSU or your high school says we need more staff for IED (Inclusion, equity, diversity) classes and more reprograming of your kids' minds, JUST SAY NO! Pull them out. Don't pay ridiculous tuition and fees. Do not let the Controllers of BLM/ANTIFA turn your children's minds to mush. Your life matters, too. Learn from history. How do you think a few overseers were able to control 50 slaves in the fields of the plantation if not through fear and intimidation? How were the Nazis able to round up thousands of Jews and keep them compliant?

No country in the world has offered hundreds of nationalities and religions and ethnic groups the opportunity to live side by side under a Constitution that says they rule the government, not the other way around. Stand up and be proud.

This isn't about slavery in the 17th century. It isn't about microaggression or unconscious bias. This isn't about Police. Those are tools they use against you. Don't let them reprogram you.

Silence is compliance. Don’t be a coward.

Stop treating women like it’s 1975

"You're Invited: Women in Technology Networking Night. Tech Hub’s fourth annual Women in Technology networking night is Feb. 27 at 6 p.m. at the TDAI Ideation Zone (300 Pomerene Hall). "

When I receive messages like this from Ohio State University I do wonder why after almost 50 years of pushing, nudging, cajoling and nagging, we still have to have "women only" events. Don't these people read the statistics about women and graduation rates, business start ups, life expectancy, special laws and set asides, etc.

Even President Trump got on the “women only” bandwagon at the urging of his daughter. In 2017 while the pink hat/hate ladies marched, he passed the "Promoting Women in Entrepreneurship Act," which encourages entrepreneurial programs that recruit and support women, and the "Next Space Pioneers and Innovators and Explorers Act," which directs NASA to encourage women and girls to study science, technology, engineering and mathematics and to pursue careers in aerospace.

Women first received more than half of the bachelor’s degrees awarded in the 1981-82 academic year—almost 40 years ago. Today they earn about 57% of bachelor’s degrees. The number of college-educated women in the adult population (ages 25 and older) surpassed the number of college-educated men in 2007--13 years ago.

Or maybe the diversity and inclusion people just have nothing else to do and have to keep building their empires. Or, maybe it's just another way to recruit women to vote for Democrats . . . keep telling them there's a gap, that they are oppressed, that white men especially are their enemy. Democrats hate happy citizens (usually conservatives)--have to find something awful.

IEDs blow up college costs

I have received Christmas/holiday greetings from the OSU Vice Provost for Diversity and Inclusion and Chief Diversity Officer Executive Director of the Todd Anthony Bell National Resource Center on the African American Male. There may be hundreds of these administrative bloat positions at any college or university by the time you include the department level and committee level appointments plus the various centers.

The Diversity lottery winner—guest blogger Dimitrii, immigrant from Moldova

“Our family won the visa diversity lottery in 1995. We came to the USA in 1996. Some family was left over in the former Soviet Union country Moldova. In 2000, I asked my father to sponsor a trip to visit my birth country, he said, "No, you must forget that place, they don't care about you. You must keep going to school, learn the language and assimilate here. You are an American in the making now." In 2002, I became a naturalized American citizen.

As a responsible citizen, I paid all my taxes even as a 16 year old working for cash at a deli. Then I went to college. Was a 'blind Democrat' for many years. If it said Democrat, I voted for the candidate. Then something happened. When my father passed away, I dropped out of college, but 2 years later came back and was able to finish. My student loans went up. My classes started to cost more, even though I was going to a CUNY public University in NYC. When I started college George W. Bush Jr. was POTUS. When I graduated in 2012, you all know who was the POTUS. I lost my health coverage when my father passed away, but eventually worked my way to own my own private insurance. Could not keep my doctor. I developed deep psychological problems because I had to start working and building relationships with new doctors. My credit was fairly good, but the APRs went through the roof.

In 2016, with the support of all my family in NY, I was finally told the truth. To research the candidates I want to vote for. Started doing the research and discovered a more loving home, which brought me to discover Conservative values. I actually was always raised conservative, yet I sided with the Democrats, because I was too lazy to look into it. I am pleased to have discovered a side of America which I love belonging to. 2.5 years ago I made a decision to #walkaway and I have not been more confident and more content with my decision. The Democrats indoctrinated me from my elementary school and all the way through college in NY. I will never go back. Thank you for all that this movement and its' supporters do for me and all other proud Americans who chose to #walkaway. God Bless Liberation, God Bless You All, and God Bless United States of America. “  Dimitrii

Diversity, Inclusion, Multiculturalism, Microaggression, Ableism, etc.

It’s a huge industry—diversity and inclusion.  There are special reeducation camps on all college campuses, with sub-groups within departments and student organizations and this has expanded to/within corporations.   I noticed this announcement for Ohio State.  It’s like religious evangelism—in fact, it is a religion, except supported by tax dollars. Ohio State has had such an office/department since 1970—almost 50 years.  It’s almost impossible to untangle the number of staff positions and departments—there is for instance, a Council of Hispanic Organizations (UCHO) and the Hispanic Oversight Committee (HOC) at The Ohio State University. They’ve been publishing a magazine for over 25 years.

D and I essentially exists to convince people to base decisions, culture and lifestyle on how people look.

“The “Check Your Blind Spots” Tour is a series of events in partnership with CEO Action for Diversity & Inclusion™. The “Check Your Blind Spots” event aims to give faculty, staff, students and community members the opportunity to learn about unconscious bias, perhaps discover some of their own and become aware of companies doing the same.

By participating, you will be empowered with the knowledge and resources needed to strip yourselves of preexisting biases and better understand the role that you can play in advancing diversity and inclusion within your communities and in your future places of work”

Professor disciplined for not attending reeducation classes

I hope this guy has a go fund me page--I'll contribute. These "reeducation camps" are exactly what he said! I had to attend them (I was associate professor), but they never lasted 2 days! Don't ever think tenure protects you. They can take away your office, your grants, assign you to freshman classes (like playground duty in public school), remove funding for conferences and travel. These things have gotten worse--they are a cottage industry for the left. Sometimes it's a department within the institution, but they bring in visiting pooh bahs to mess with your mind who make their living doing this. This is another example of the fascist techniques of the left. They have nothing to contribute so they ramble on about race, genital interchangeability, and climate, but no plans jobs or taxes (except to increase them) or national security. A huge scam--and if you're sending a kid to college, the costs are all folded in.

https://www.thecollegefix.com/post/32510/

I remember one where the speaker's English was so bad no one could understand him. But we had to be there. I had an assistant once who refused to go to a workshop to build team work--he didn't want to eat with those people. I think he threatened to go to the ombudsman or union and my boss just let it slide. Me?  Hey, it was a free lunch to sit around the table and play with legos.

There is little diversity in academe--political, intellectual, or even curiosity. It's much worse than the 1990s. Yes, college faculty and administrations are way to the left. But so are the students. Women now outnumber men in higher education enrollments and they are much more likely to be liberals (41.1 % for women, 28.9% for men identify as liberal). And it begins before college, because these are freshmen. Warn your children. Have the "talk." They'll need more than condoms for protection. Of their minds and values. It's why they voted for Bernie, and real adults voted for Trump.  https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/rampage/wp/2017/05/02/political-polarization-among-college-freshmen-is-at-a-record-high-as-is-the-share-identifying-as-far-left/?

The word police on campus

"Language has been described as complicated, intriguing and beautiful.” So opens the University of New Hampshire’s “Bias-Free Language Guide,” whose unstated purpose is to make language a lot more complicated and less beautiful. “We offer this guide as a way to promote discussion and to facilitate creative and accurate expression,” the authors assert. “This guide is not a means to censor but rather to create dialogues of inclusion where all of us feel comfortable and welcomed.”

Oh boy. So what is offensive? Well, the photo with the guide shows no one of European origin--not Irish, German, Serbian, French, Russian, or Finn. Everyone is thin, good looking and dressed alike in denim and white. No one is disabled. No males in the photo, although one person appears to be gender-neutral or transitioning.

Connect Students Image 1

 https://web.archive.org/web/20150730183429/http://www.unh.edu/inclusive/bias-free-language-guide?

Senior citizen, elder, and elderly have been banished from the guide—back to “old people.” When I was a college student I thought anyone over 25 was an old person. HA!  Micro aggression has been subdivided to micro-assault, micro-insult and micro-invalidation.

Do narrow minded Americans need to travel more to see how others live?

We have travelled outside the U.S.—Ireland, Russia, Italy, Finland, Estonia, Germany, Austria, Greece, Turkey, Egypt, Israel (and briefly Canada, but that was just airports). What we saw there in terms of little population groups disliking each other and ethnic battles that dated back for centuries should make Americans feel proud (until the last 6 years) of the way we’ve patched up centuries of ethnic battles.

I think the Lapps (Sami) in Finland have 11 different languages, wander over 4 countries, have special protections like our American Indians, and are generally not well liked by Finns who are a different ethnicity. And among the Sami the reindeer people don’t like the fish people who don’t like the forest people. The Somalis in Finland have a high crime problem among the youth who need to know both Finnish and Swedish in order to get a job and are experiencing discrimination—but were never slaves and have socialized healthcare and free college.

When we shopped in Estonia, the retail clerks were speaking Russian to each other.  Big problems there between native Estonians, and Russians who have lived there for generations—or since WWII. We were pleasantly surprised in Israel, which is another melting pot with Jews, Muslims, Christians and others like Bahai.

In Italy, which hasn’t really been a nation all that long, the light skinned, fair northerners who believe their culture is the only one that matters, look down on the dark skinned, poverty prone southerners.

In Ireland the hatred for the Brits and what they did to them during the famine is still palpable. There seems to be a monument to every battle back to the Scandinavian invaders , most of which we’ve never heard of. Also in Ireland it was the economic boom years when we were there and almost the entire service trade were foreign—Poles, Czech, and other east Europeans whose economy hadn’t yet recovered from Communism—the nannies were head covered Muslims. The Irish wouldn’t take any of those jobs in the tourist industry—except in the rural areas where they were entertainers and historical site managers. Even the restaurant managers were foreign (serving Irish food for the tourists). These people stayed to themselves, had their own churches, clubs, even trades. Meanwhile the Irish were searching for deeper roots with special schools and summer internships in Gaelic language.

The Volga Germans, invited to Russia because of their superior farming skills during Catherine the Great’s reign, are some of the most discriminated against people in Russia, and now its eastern former provinces. They speak a form of old low German, and aren’t welcome in Germany either after 3 centuries since many speak Russian. They do make it in the U.S., however.

The push for diversity and multiculturalism in the U.S. has done the opposite of what those words would seem to mean. And leading the pack in finding irritants among groups is the Obama administration, with appointments like Holder, cheered on by the likes of Sharpton,  filled with poverty and race pimps who fear a loss of their jobs or non-profits if people really were working together for a greater country and the greater good.

Update: Somalis demonstrate at the welfare office in Sweden. 14% of the population in Sweden are immigrants. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tn8sdVIECo0

What to do with degrees like these?

“In 2010, the New York Times reported on Cortney Munna, then 26, a New York University graduate with almost $100,000 in debt. If her repayments were not then being deferred because she was enrolled in night school, she would have been paying $700 monthly from her $2,300 monthly after-tax income as a photographer’s assistant. She says she is toiling “to pay for an education I got for four years and would happily give back.” Her degree is in religious and women’s studies.”

http://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/george-will-subprime-college-educations/2012/06/08/gJQA4fGiOV_story.html

But what are all those tuition and fee increases going for?  In part, narcissism.  Bloat. Says George Will.  And I’ve blogged about it when I see it at Ohio State which has an Office of Diversity and Inclusion; Faculty of Color Caucus of the Department of History; the Race, Ethnicity, and Nation Constellation of the Department of History; and DISCO, Diversity and Identity Studies Collective . Courses like “Gender and race in contemporary architecture.”

UCSD found money to create a vice chancellorship for equity, diversity and inclusion. UC Davis has a Diversity Trainers Institute under an administrator of diversity education, who presumably coordinates with the Cross-Cultural Center. It also has: a Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender Resource Center; a Sexual Harassment Education Program; a diversity program coordinator; an early resolution discrimination coordinator; a Diversity Education Series that awards Understanding Diversity Certificates in “Unpacking Oppression”; and Cross-Cultural Competency Certificates in “Understanding Diversity and Social Justice.” California’s budget crisis has not prevented UC San Francisco from creating a new vice chancellor for diversity and outreach to supplement its Office of Affirmative Action, Equal Opportunity and Diversity, and the Diversity Learning Center (which teaches how to become “a Diversity Change Agent”), and the Center for LGBT Health and Equity, and the Office of Sexual Harassment Prevention & Resolution, and the Chancellor’s Advisory Committees on Diversity, and on Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender Issues, and on the Status of Women.

DISCO? No thanks

"Debra Moddelmog is a professor in the Department of English [at Ohio State University"]. She specializes in 20th century American literature, sexuality studies and intersectionality studies and is director of Diversity and Identity Studies Collective at OSU (DISCO). . . .She has organized and successfully carried out a new interdisciplinary minor in Sexuality Studies at Ohio State. Her work on diversity has had a significant impact on the Ohio State humanities curriculum."

There's a place for everyone (as a department head) at OSU.

Diversity, unity and multiculturalism

Ohio State's Board of Trustees has changed the name of the Office of Minority Affairs to the Office of Diversity and Inclusion. So what do all these words mean. Let's think about crackers.

Unity is the sign that says CRACKERS above your head in the supermarket.

Diversity means there are 13 different boxes of Ritz crackers--salted, unsalted, 2 stacks, 4 stacks, mini-crackers with peanut butter, whole wheat, snowflake design, low fat, more fiber, cheese flavored, etc.

Multicultural is the section with crackers from Israel, Mexico, Canada, with different shapes and textures, sometimes in small metal boxes screen printed in bright colors.

Inclusion is everything in that aisle, including the ones that look more like cookies than crackers, animal crackers, pretzels made in a Ritz cracker shape, English biscuits, graham crackers, etc., but which the stockers just didn't know where to place.

Someone didn't connect the dots in federal-state partnership

Tip lines and 250 agencies can't take the place of old fashioned common sense.

"Innovative Anti-terror Information Sharing: Maryland’s Federal, State, and Local Partnership Model," Chapter 11 in Safeguarding Homeland Security; Governors and Mayors Speak Out was just released Sept. 18. 2009. Former Maryland Governor Robert Erlich wrote about how Maryland was connecting the dots through an innovative federal-state partnership, but they seemed to have slipped up on Maj. Hasan who lived, worked and worshipped in Maryland.
Chapter summary: Maryland created the first fusion center which collects and analyzes disparate data or information to try to “connect the dots” to prevent acts of terrorism. The public is encouraged to provide information through a “tip line.” The Center has federal, state, local, and private sector participation representing 250 agencies or organizations. The Maryland Center is led by members of all three levels of government. A principal objective of such a fusion center is to develop a pattern of cooperation and information sharing.
Maj. Nadil Hasan had communicated 10 to 20 times with Anwar al-Awlaki, an imam released from a Yemeni jail last year who has used his personal Web site to encourage Muslims across the world to kill U.S. troops in Iraq. No formal investigation was opened into Hasan. Rep. Pete Hoekstra of Michigan, the top Republican on the House Intelligence Committee, said it was his understanding Hasan and the imam exchanged e-mails that counterterrorism officials picked up. Hoekstra requested that the CIA, FBI, NSA and DNI preserve all documents relating to the Fort Hood attack and related matters for potential investigation by Congress, so this isn't swept under the rug as just some demented soldier going crazy.

Dr. Val Finnell a former classmate of Hasan in Public Health (in Maryland) says Hasan was always focused on another subject. "He would frequently say that he was Muslim first and an American second. That came out in just about everything he did in the university," said Finnell. Hasan would become visibly upset when people challenged him about his beliefs, but no one ever thought he would resort to such violence.
"Instead of being investigated and punished for his treasonous behavior, political correctness assured that Hasan was fast-tracked through the Army ranks and allowed to continue as a psychiatrist treating soldiers returning from the front.

Political correctness is a lie employed by liberal elites to preserve myths about favored groups. It is sold as a way to ensure that society treats people fairly. But it is actually a derangement whereby normally lucid people disregard inconvenient truths and willfully reject facts to avoid confronting uncomfortable realities.

On Meet The Press last Sunday, Army Chief of Staff General George Casey now infamously said about Hasan’s rampage, “As horrific as this tragedy was, if our diversity becomes a casualty, I think that’s worse.” Gary Bauer

WAAANNA

White and Asian Americans Need Not Apply. Although in California, it appears that Asian is a minority in a state where they are probably the 2nd largest group, and in Ohio, Asians are called "people of color." I've looked through some of the photos at the websites, and it appears the "one drop" rule still applies.
