Nutrition and mathemagic

Really? You mean someone might not be able to go to Starbucks in order to buy 3 apples and a bag of carrots? Do you know how many Brits spend their winters in Spain? It's a short flight. Gorgeous grocery stores there. I try to rely on good, peer reviewed sources, but BMJ (British Medical Journal, https://bmjopen.bmj.com/content/9/1/e026966)  failed us here with mathemagic.

Speaking of Spain, I saved $500 in less than a year by giving up my morning coffee at Panera’s in 2015; I saved another $500 by discontinuing coloring my hair. I saved $200 by changing credit cards (got one that gives cash back). Helped pay for our 2015 trip to Spain.  And yes, their grocery store produce is better than any I’ve seen in the U.S. and the airports are packed with retired Brits coming and going.

Kamala Harris and the new racism

Don't know why Kamala Harris is virtue signaling about lynching (new bill) since it was the Democrats who fought the Republican bills all those years. “The Dyer Anti-Lynching Bill was first introduced in 1918 by Representative Leonidas C. Dyer, a Republican from St. Louis, Missouri, in the United States House of Representatives as H.R. 11279. It was directed at punishing lynchings and mob violence. The Dyer Anti-Lynching Bill was re-introduced in subsequent sessions of Congress and passed by the U.S. House of Representatives on January 26, 1922, but its passage was halted by a filibuster by Senate Democrats who were a minority in the US Senate in 1922. (Wikipedia).”  And that went on for years (200 anti-lynching bills always defeated by Democrats) until anti-lynching legislation passed a few years ago. More blacks are killed in 4 days through abortion than in 80 years of lynching and Harris is "pro-choice," and radically so.

Democrats don't share the values of immigrants and refugees

Why are Democrats like Pelosi and Schumer so determined to go back on their word about the Wall? Why are they now failing native born Americans--especially blacks? The 2020 election. In raw numbers, Pew Research projected 32 million Hispanics will be eligible to vote in 2020, compared with 30 million blacks. Hispanics now outnumber blacks and the attention they get from Democrats show that. The population of Asians eligible to vote will reach an estimated 11 million in 2020, which is more than double the 5 million who were eligible to vote in 2000, accounting for 5% of next year’s electorate.

So Democrats will grovel, lie and smear to suck in Hispanics which are from dozens of countries and they are primarily white. The Anti-Wall hysteria, not the pro-Wall common sense is the new racism--on the part of Democrats. Don't let that happen. Sanctuary cities are hot beds of crime for illegal crime syndicates. Democrats want to destroy the family values of Mexicans, Ecuadoreans, Venezuelans, Hondurans, etc. values that include religion, children, strong work ethic--all the reasons they came here, legally or illegally.

Millions more Africans came to the U.S. as legal immigrants in two decades than the 300,000 who came as slaves in 300 years. Many are Muslims--their family values and their experience with oppressive governments should make them Republicans, not Democrats. Africans have little in common except skin color with native born black Americans--not even President Obama had any roots in that period of history.

The Middle Class Yarn spun to frighten you

It's not exactly fake news, but it's misleading--the story you hear that the middle class is shrinking and so many more people are using government benefits because of the gap between the very wealthy and the "others." There are three things to consider:

1) demographics/age,

2) marriage or the lack of it, and

3) expansion of federal benefits from the poor and deserving to the middle class.

Rejoice, patriots. It's not true. The middle class is only shrinking because so many people have moved up to the next quintile! Have you ever driven to the suburban areas of Columbus (or the city where you live)--I can't believe the homes, schools, shopping centers, churches, gyms, parts, etc. And the new high rise housing in the central city for all those millennials willing to pay the apartment costs.

Also, as the boomers retire, they are now living on their pensions and investments (the very wealth Elizabeth Warren wants to go after), plus they are drawing Social Security. And guess what, a two parent household with both adults working has a much higher income than a one parent household who is most likely a woman. Two adults in a home have more time to distribute to the children to see to it they are educated and well-fed. It's amazing how many "experts" in socialist think tanks switch to "household" to show poverty rates and don't factor in $30,000 in transferred benefits like EITC, SNAP and Section 8.

We've been in 4 of the 5 quintiles in our 58 years together, as have many our age. We have 5 streams of income, as do many our age--some if they have military benefits have 6 or 7. We're certainly not suffering, but as retirees, we have less INCOME than when we were DINKs, but more WEALTH because we have lived frugally and invested or lived on one income. Warren wants to punish us for living on less when we were in our 40s.

Left of center think tanks crunch the numbers and in horror say, the sky if falling. There's a gap that wasn't there in 1979. We need a more "progressive" system--higher taxes. Well, duh. You mean when we lived in an upper middle class neighborhood of the 70s in a home with 1.5 bathrooms, 2 TVs, 1 phone, 1 car, 1 income, and lived month to month with 2 growing children in our home? Do you mean when we had 1 week vacation, which we spent at Mom's farm, and paid our own health insurance? Do you mean when we had a mortgage and a car payment, but no credit card or college debt (never had that because we never borrowed). Do you mean when FICA withdrawals from our 1 check ended at $22,900 and there was no Medicare tax (now is $127,200 FICA + 1.45% for Medicare)? And the personal exemption? Much higher then. Don't have the exact figure for 1979, but if the 1913 rate (year of modern income tax) of $3000 were adjusted for inflation it would be about $72,000--anyone getting that?

So what has the government done for the poor and low income with all the tax money and safety net money we've sent in the last 40 years? Well, the so-called safety net expanded so much that the middle class now qualifies for many entitlement programs meant for the poor. The middle class voter now screams if there's no COLA for Social Security (which originally was for the poor widows and orphans) and Medicare.

Now 55% of the U.S. population are receiving some sort of entitlement--and it's not because we're poor, it's because we're middle class and wealthy. It's because for every election the politicians dangle an increase for the population served by Social Security, or one of our 5 health insurance programs. Government programs NEVER get smaller--they always expand, and since there are so few poor people in America, they expand into the middle class. There are people earning over $100,000 who qualify for government benefits--even Obamacare.

Short trip to the fitness center

We decided to change our routine a little--we got 4-5" of snow last night (still falling) so rather than take 2 cars to Lifetime Fitness where we work out (about 2 miles), I decided to go with Bob in his car.  We had driven 2 blocks north when his SUV began to spin out--he couldn't get it to straighten out, so on about the 3rd spin as we went into the southbound lane and on coming traffic, he said, "Well, I guess we won't go this morning," and we continued south with our new best friends, and returned to our garage. It's supposed to warm up today, but he was also planning to take paintings to a UAAL show in Friendship Village.  That will need to be evaluated as there are no plows out yet either for our condo or the streets (7:15 a.m.).  I've already got my heart rate up. . . but this is not the way to do it.

Who’s the racist; is the Wall racist?

The President is accused of being a racist by his enemies because of the travel ban for groups originally targeted by Obama and the Wall, which several years ago Democrats agreed to fund and high profile Democrats like Obama, Pelosi, and Schumer are on video strongly advocating for it.

Neither Muslims or Mexicans are a race--one is a world wide multi-ethnic religion, the other a nation of multi-ethnic people who speak a European language--Spanish--and are 60% white. The U.S. is 70%. There are also many middle-easterners and Asians coming in through our porous southern border, especially where there is no wall/barrier/fence. If they would vote Republican, that original 20 billion the Dems approved would be there tomorrow.

The Democrats continue to demonize people as racist, ignoring the KKK in their closets and roots. They are eying 2020 and have nothing for the nation but old, failed socialist policies like higher taxes and freebies.  Now they've declared a red hat, a slogan, obscure words, teen-age boys, Catholics, and all of Western Civilization racist. They've examined every idiomatic expression for dog whistles and racism, from “rule of thumb” to “union of man and woman” to pronouns,  to the names of sports teams. 

National Socialism, aka Nazi, is extreme statism, when a government takes control of a business or sector of the economy to benefit the state, like health care, education, etc. Hitler didn’t just target Jews, he  also killed the disabled, gypsies, Christians, Poles, etc.--who were absolutely no danger to him. As far as dividing us--that began in Academe, with now massive, bloated departments devoted to "diversity," aka division. Hitler learned the attacks against Jews from the Turks who used it on Christians, and eugenics from Margaret Sanger, founder of Planned Parenthood. But it was the Communists of USSR, China and Cambodia who really grew mass human destruction (although not as many as legal abortion), but because it is a form of socialism which the Leftists admire, they can only mention Hitler in their tirades against Trump.

At what point will the sane folks (yes, there are some!) who have identified as "Democrat" for years realize that their party is gone? At what point will they finally say, "That's enough. I can't stand by and watch one generation decide to trash the whole structure of this once-great country. It's not rational (and is incredibly arrogant) to imagine that a few politicians of our day are smarter than all the brilliant minds that conceived this country and all the great statesmen who nurtured it through many generations into being the greatest country in the world. I can't pretend any longer that it is fine to kill someone else because they are inconvenient for me. What can possibly be gained by allowing the government to make all important decisions for citizens thereby permanently infantilizing them?" Surely there's a point at which this realization will hit! I don't imagine that my thoughts here will have any impact on anyone else; I certainly don't expect any of those mentioned above to suddenly have an epiphany because of my expression of my thoughts/feelings here. If you are one of those, don't imagine that any rebuttal you might write here will have any influence on me, either. Just unfriend me and go on about your business. I'm fine with that. At some point thinking people have to express thoughts even when they know they'll be dismissed. I reached that point today.

Don’t install Bible study in our public schools

I was in elementary school in the 1940s--they weren't "teaching" Bible then, although it was read occasionally. It's a bad idea--we've got 35,000 protestant denominations and groups, many called "Bible churches." We've got 6 rites within Catholicism with another 21 under that. We've got Orthodox, Mormons, and Jehovah Witnesses, plus some spiritualist types, unity affiliated, Swedenborgian, and those are just the ones in the big tent of Christianity. Then there is a buffet table of other religions who also have their own sacred scriptures. Teach religion at home or send your child to a religious school. We've got lefties who say we can't say "Western Civilization" or use certain pronouns. Can't imagine what they'd do with the battles and ceremonies of the Old Testament.

Virginia out-ghouls New York

Virginia is now trying to out-ghoul and out-Gosnell New York. If the infant is born alive in an abortion procedure, she will be made comfortable until the "mother" [is she a mother if the baby isn't a baby?] and doctor decide whether to "abort" [aka kill] her or let her live. Planned Parenthood founder Margaret Sanger used abortion to keep the population of the poor and minorities down.  It's still the Democrat method.  More blacks are killed in 4 days than 80 years of lynching. Vast expanses of the world have no radio stations.  Stopped in Italy, France, Turkey, Romania--all were playing U.S. rock or similar. Found a Russian language speaker in Ufa, but now is playing Russian pop/rock/folk. Moved on the St. Petersburg and found a Christian station, http://radiomaria.ru/  They are speaking slowly and calmly,  and I can catch a few words. Also visited Lithuania and Norway.

My brother-in-law loves to say phrases in other languages and greet people.  He would love this one.

A lot of sick people out there.  There is NEVER a medical reason to kill a child while mother is in her final month.  This is not maternal health, or women’s reproductive rights—it’s an attempt to kill all respect for human life, to dehumanize the entire nation, to destroy families.  Infants will be next; then toddlers.  They are already after the disabled and elderly in about 25 states.

Why now?  Conservatives and the pro-life movement for the last 47 years have been saying abortion was a state’s rights issue and have organized to unravel the very bad law called Roe v. Wade.  Even far leftist pro-aborts have admitted it is a weak, poorly sourced law.  Now they are terrified of a conservative court and the absence of RBG on the court is energizing the radicals, calling a murder in the 9th month a mother’s right to abortion.  God will not be ridiculed.

Democrats are just being honest about who they are

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC) has pushed Democrats out of the closet--they are finally honest about who they are. Elizabeth Warren wants to tax wealth instead of income, Kamala Harris wants to raise taxes and make all medical care free for the asking, getting rid of health insurance, and Julian Castro thinks a 70% tax rate (AOC's suggestion) is too low--he's going for 90%. Meanwhile, Venezuela is in chaos--people are starving while the rulers stash away money for what they know is coming, Cuba looks like a 1950s used car lot, North Koreans don't have food or electricity, and 100 million East Europeans, Russians and Chinese are dead. All is forgotten by gen-x and millennial snowflakes due to erosion of the education system that began before their parents were born. It's been 30 years since Americans naively believed when that wall came down between the Germanys, Communism had failed. We have several generations who are reanimating the Socialist Zombies of history.

And what countries had the most liberal abortion laws in history, and are now suffering for it? USSR and China. Democrats are pushing that too.
