Record cold in South Carolina

Global warming is natural and has been taking place the last 8,000 years or so; that said, there are so many things individuals, organizations, non-profits and the local, state, and federal government can do to preserve the best and enhance the rest without damaging cultures and nature. Unfortunately, it has become a political battle and a war for profits as investors and utilities chase the latest windmill and solar panel. The gulf between gain and truth seems to be getting wider.

Iceland is under a volcano alert

“An intense earthquake swarm began Saturday deep beneath Bárðarbunga, Iceland’s largest volcano complex. (Here’s how to pronounce it.) As of Tuesday, the Icelandic Met Office cautions there’s no evidence yet of magma moving toward the surface or that an eruption is imminent. Still, Iceland is springing into action, which suggests the threat is real. These people know their volcanoes.”

Global cooling is a great possibility, and interrupted air flights are virtually assured. Ohio used to be covered by glacial ice.

We are stewards of God’s creation

On the one hand, I think we’ve made wonderful progress, using the old term,  on environmentalism.  We started vacationing on Lake Erie in 1974, and it was just beginning to turn around. Automobiles—huge improvement, as also appliances. Many of these changes have come about because of pressure groups and modest increment in government regulations.  However, climate change/global warming are a different animal.  They are primarily a dislike for modern society, and a longing for a purity in the past that never really existed (usually we think conservatives live in the past, but on this it is the opposing team). The EPA regulations are increasingly economy killers.  And also harmful to the environment.  Burning corn to fuel autos is not only bad for the environment, but causes deforestation in South America, hunger in other parts of the world and air pollution.  This is not a current administration problem, I think it was Bush’s EPA, or maybe Clinton (these things start small and grow). Certain groups see global weather changes every where and use it as an excuse to stop economic growth. There’s not been much change in the last 2 decades, and they see that as evidence of change!  Most scary to me is the reported solar flares of 2012 which could have destroyed our civilization as we know it because we’re so dependent on technology, and no one could have done a thing about it. Earth missed the solar storm by one week.  Whew.  That was close. Someone must have been praying—was it you?  Maybe God decided we needed another chance. As a Christian I see the whole climate change/earth worship as a desire to feel some control in an increasingly senseless world; others see it as a take over by a one world government. Here’s a link to our near miss.

There's been no warming for over a decade. Could be another long cold spell. We could be heading for another 17th century cold spell. But this time we have technology on our side. Assuming some government power broker doesn't kill it.

The seven syllable volcano

A new burst of ash yesterday has halted the return to service of some European airports according to the NYT. Nasty stuff. Millions lost in commerce and leisure industries. Thousands of people stranded or inconvenienced. Ash and lava and poisonous gases in the air people breathe. Britain is sending ships to rescue its 150,000 citizens stranded abroad. Just imagine what volcanic ash clouds perhaps from a Pacific Island would do in the long run to wind turbines in the prairies, or solar panels on desert rooftops, and the nuclear plants sprinkled around the midwest--those energy sources so touted by the environmentalists as superior to fossil fuel. Talk all you want about "locally grown" or "sustainable," but block the sun for a growing season with an ash cloud in California and you'd find out quickly just what "food insecurity" really means. True, that nasty stuff in the clouds can shut down airports because jet fuel engines don't like it either, and there's no way to safely circulate the air, but other forms of heating and cooling that stored the sun's energy eons ago through rotting vegetation and animal matter aren't as affected. It's almost as if God is sending a reminder that he is still in charge and the cult of AGW better hang up its robes.

Job 38
4 “Where were you when I laid the foundation of the earth?
Tell me, if you have understanding.
5 Who determined its measurements—surely you know!
Or who stretched the line upon it?
6 On what were its bases sunk,
or who laid its cornerstone,
7 when the morning stars sang together
and all the sons of God shouted for joy?

8 “Or who shut in the sea with doors
when it burst out from the womb,
9 when I made clouds its garment
and thick darkness its swaddling band,
10 and prescribed limits for it
and set bars and doors,
11 and said, ‘Thus far shall you come, and no farther,
and here shall your proud waves be stayed’?

Icelandic volcano is shutting down air travel

Yes, I can see why the airline industry is concerned about the Iceland volcano affecting air quality and vision. But what about the long term affects? Remember the little ice age? Millions of Europeans froze or starved to death when the climate changed--it got colder because of the amount of ash in the air. And here we've been shutting down or over regulating the very industries that could help us if this were to happen again. Ah, the wisdom of Big Brother.

You don't need Sean or Rush to be a skeptic

Knowing I don't believe that humans control the climate, a friend asked me if I get my information from Sean and Rush. Why she would think that, I'm not sure since she knows how I love research and I question everything, regardless of the political slant and I seriously doubt she ever listens to either one of them. But the librarian in me just has to list this, 500 peer-reviewed papers supporting skepticism. . . Now I wouldn't agree with all of them, however, they represent an interesting span--some back to the early 1980s. But it's important to understand how government and foundation research grants are doled out, how peer-review is done, and how if you're not in the main stream (which could be flowing the wrong direction), you will be underfunded, understaffed, and under-promoted, whether in climate, astronomy, economics, library science, or war games. Even getting a published work to the shelf of a public library is political.

Catch the Green Scum Scam before it devours you

The Global Warming steam roller will demolish that part of the economy Obama hasn't. (I hope those of you buried in the most recent blizzard in the west are listening.) Even GWB couldn't protect us from the EPA, the endangered polar bear crowd, and Algorism. The greenies plan to kill us just like they did the African children by removing DDT, their only hope of survival. They thrived during the Bush years while he looked away and ignored Toto-Kyoto. Go here to read Dispelling the Global Warming Myth. The architects and building trades are so covered up with this nonsense I can hardly open my husband's e-mail.

"Due to the efforts of Heartland and others, the public is beginning to catch on to the cosmic scam that Al Gore, James Hansen ("an embarrassment to mankind") and others--mostly not scientists--have been perpetrating. Meanwhile, the Obama administration, seemingly determined to inflict the maximum possible damage on the economy in the shortest time, is trying to ram a cap-and-trade carbon tax through Congress before opposition can be mobilized. It's easier to do that, of course, when you know that Congressmen won't read the statute before they vote on it. So our only hope is an informed citizenry."

2009 International Conference on Climate Change Don't miss John Theon!
“I have publicly said I thought Jim Hansen should be fired,” Theon said. “But, my opinion doesn’t count much, particularly when he is empowered by people like the current president of the United States. I’m not sure what we can do to have him get off of the public payroll and continue with the campaign or crusade. I think the man is sincere, but he is suffering from a bad case of megalomania.”

Global cooling suggested

Don't buy those funny light bulbs yet. The regular ones help heat your home. Old Farmer's Almanac is predicting we're going into a cooling period and they're not looking at fuzzy caterpillars crossing the road.
These factors—the cooling Pacific, the yet-to-cool Atlantic, and the historical reduction in recent solar activity—suggest that a staggered cooling period could continue. Absent from most headlines about global warming is a discussion of measures suggesting that the warming has ceased and a cooling may have begun. For example, deep-ocean heat content has not increased during the past five years. Looking at just one year, from January 2007 to January 2008, we find that satellite-derived atmospheric temperatures indicate that Earth was about one degree Fahrenheit cooler at the beginning of 2008 than it was at the beginning of 2007. The United Kingdom's Hadley Centre ocean and land temperature records show cooling in the last seven to ten years.
