Ten months and he's still studying Afghanistan! Now he's decided they have corruption and that changes the game plan. Why? We've got loads of it in our own government, and it never stopped us before! We've got Barney Frank who assured us everything was fine in Fannie Mae, and Timmy Geithner who couldn't figure out his taxes so he just didn't pay them, and bunches of people from Chicago knee capping everyone and taking names, threatening news outlets. We've got eco-lobbyists and rich marxists camping out at the White House. This whole Afghan dither thing is so blatantly political I would think even his most loyal, boot licking supporters would have it figured out and show some concern for the lives of our military and those of our allies. Or on a good day, perhaps they could show a little caring for the people of Afghanistan who must really be confused by a President who says victory isn't necessary, especially since a year ago he said this was THE WAR. Giving speeches to our military 3 days in a row first at Ft. Hood, then Arlington, and today at Elmendorf Air Force Base in Anchorage, Alaska do you suppose he ever got an inkling what war is about? Apparently not. The speeches looked like they were given through clenched teeth and drawn from a heart of stone.
Obama is terrified of offending his far left base. Or maybe the Chicago goon squad he brought with him to DC. Whichever, he won't do anything to offend them for fear of losing support for health care (which he just had to rush through with no one seeing it) or cap and trade so together they can kill all our economy. He just had to rush rush rush the stimulus package or something really awful like 9% unemployment could happen, again without anyone knowing what was in it. And it has all sorts of surprises that had zip nada zilch to do with stimulating the economy, but which affect health, taxes, and especially energy. Little bombs of excrement that his closest advisors tucked inside and none of our elected representatives got to debate.
But he must deliberate even longer on Afghanistan and not let it detract from his war on our economy.

It's eight years after Bush and Deferment Dick went into Afghanistan and it's left up someone else to clean up their mess.
Ignoring of course all those campaign promises about which was the right and just war aren't you. Deferments were common in the 1960s--I think my husband had 4 or 5 himself, as did thousands of men our age. And women, of course. And college students. And fathers. And everyone who turned 18 after the 60s and never even had to give it another thought.
As a veteran of that era, we have a name for those who were pacifists when young enough to fight and then militant when any personal risk had passed. We know them as Chickenhawks and Deferment Dick is the poster child for that group. But with his failing memory, he probably won't even remember his many deferments.
Deferments were legal and not just for pacifists. Blame your guys--they were in charge.
Calling them "pacifists" was just a kindness on my part.
Now, back to dithering and our president who doesn't believe in victory. If you're a Vietnam vet, you probably remember we ran out on our allies in that one too, resulting in the death of millions.
I'm a Vietnam vet all right. And considering the mood of the country at the time about the war. A condition created in large part by those who tried anything and everything to avoid serving in the military. I'm not convinced it was a great idea to stay any longer and add to the 58,000 killed and 300,000 wounded US serviceman. None of us wanted to be the last casualty in a war it was obvious the country was looking for a way to get out of. We just wanted to be back in the states having a good time like the rest of you.
I personally prefer a president that puts some thought into matters such as these. Rather than one who rushes headlong into a war and relies on a wing and a prayeras his plan of action.
If your gripe is with the deferred who join war protests, I'm right with you, but most men with deferments went on doing--getting an education, being a father, solving medical problems--what got them the deferment. The protestors, in my opinion, lengthened the war and muddled the politics, just as they have done for the Iraq and Afghanistan wars, with a huge boost from our Democrat congress who helped get us there. The treatment of returning service men was outrageous, and guilt over that fed into the "I support the troops but not the war" mentality of our present conflict.
That said, WWII was the last war in which we had a "victory" that Obama is so fearful of. And we were awfully slow getting into that.
For the most part, I long ago got over my differences with the majority of the Vietnam war protestors, deferred and even those who traipsed off to Canada or some other country to avoid military service. Actually, I'm no longer even sure that they weren't the ones who in the end were right. My "gripe," as you call it, is with the members of any of those these groups who now wrap themselves in the flag and question the patriotism of anyone who disagrees with them about our present conflicts. I find it hard to reconcile how many of these people can, on a daily basis, preach that our government is not to be trusted and is indeed incapable of doing anything right. And then express outrage that some people apparently believe their assessment of the government and finds fault with it's war policies.
