Here's something to remember about private letters. In the U.S. they (content) belong to the writer (or estate), but in England (and I assume Ireland) they (content) belong to the recipient. Regardless, I think it's tacky to sell Mrs. Kennedy's private letters to a priest. Although technically this was an act of friendship not confession, who knows how she saw it. They should have been returned to her daughter.
