The link between autism and oral contraceptives

Birth control came around the same time that autism was diagnosed at around 1 in 10,000 and now, with widespread birth control use, the number of autism cases has skyrocketed. Is there a connection? I certainly think so--and it's in every flush that goes through the water system, so everyone gets it in combination with all the hormones in our food.

George W. Bush's popularity is up. That happens with most presidents, but usually not in 5 years. History judges them.

Obama has helped that by not bringing the troops home, not closing GITMO, redefining terrorism as workplace violence, or just ignoring it, by taking credit for the killing of Osama bin Laden, when it was the "interrogation" techniques of the Bush era that provided the intelligence, by flubbing and lying about Benghazi, by dancing on the graves of the poor dead children of Sandy Hook for his personal political gain, by rushing to mega storm Sandy, which made no difference in the recovery and the victims suffered for months, by worsening race relations by constantly playing the race card, by raising taxes on everyone with his lies about healthcare, by crony capitalism worse than Bush-Cheney fans could have imagined which has enriched the "fat cats" he loves to criticize, and by exhibiting extremely poor taste in his family's hedonistic life style while so many people still suffer from the recession.

Yes, Bush will probably be glad to see him and shake the hand of the man who made America miss him.

Our culture approves abortion, looks down on adoption

‘Molly (not her name) a 20-year-old woman, came to PDHC intent on having an abortion. She is in college and already has a baby. She's in a relationship, but her parents do not approve of her boyfriend. They've helped with her first baby and she was afraid that they would be unhappy and not want to help her again. We talked with Molly about her options and the importance of having an ultrasound done before she would make a decision. Molly was very upset during the appointment and cried. She felt torn. She didn't believe in abortion but felt she had no other choice. During the ultrasound, the nurse was able to find a heartbeat and dated the pregnancy at six weeks. Molly did not want to see the ultrasound screen and refused pictures. The nurse spoke with her about her concerns and shared resources that could help should she decide to continue the pregnancy. She left the appointment undecided. A few days later, our nurse called with the physician's review and Molly said that after talking things over more with her boyfriend she had decided to continue the pregnancy! Our nurse gave her more information about how to get started with prenatal care and other resources. She also invited her to come back to PDHC for maternity clothes and parenting classes. “

40-50 years ago this would have been a no-brainer.  She knows this is a sibling of her child; a grandchild of her parents; knows what it is to be a mother.  Why snuff out a life that others would welcome?

Let’s not shed more blood for Islamic civil wars

Civil war in Syria. Weapons of mass destruction. Gas poisoning. Hmmm. Haven't we heard that before? As a reason for going to war? Would it be different just because Obama is president, who incidentally, hasn't really gotten us out of Afghanistan and Iraq, and has lost more military in Afghanistan than Bush did. I'm really not willing to shed more blood for people who hate our culture, religion and way of life.

Democrats voted for higher taxes on the poor by reelecting Obama

Everyone by 2015 will be paying more taxes under the President's plan--except of course, those who don't pay any taxes. Although even the poor get to pay more taxes for their cigarettes--the poor and less educated do not respond to price pressure so most will continue to smoke anyway.  Cigarette excise taxes are regressive--lower income smokers spend a disproportionate share of their income on cigarette taxes compared to smokers with greater incomes . In NY from 2003–2004 to 2010–2011, the percentage of income spent on cigarettes for smokers with annual incomes less than $30,000 more than doubled (11.6% to 23.6%). These taxes really hurt the poor--and the first tax Obama passed in 2009 was $1 on cigarettes.  He's not the first president to lie about taxes, but we've got more gullible voters these days. And they ARE educated.

Bishop Watterson High School

Students at Bishop Watterson High School in Columbus, Ohio are petitioning and organizing to have a gay teacher reinstated. Unless they wish to attend a government school, this is a bad idea. Unlike Protestants who protest and regroup at the slightest secular wind change, Catholics have a few more restrictions. Protestants get to have the burden of private interpretation of scripture and see the pope in the mirror every morning; Roman Catholics do not. The government has already destroyed the Catholic adoption agencies by insisting children be placed, not for their best interest, but the desires of the adopting couple. Let's not destroy a very fine school system by misguided beliefs about the purpose of sexuality.

People are being quick to judge the current administration for failures to apprehend the Tsarnaev brothers before they assembled their arsenal and bombs (in a state with strict gun control). I'll wait (surprise!). There are hundreds of plots foiled that we never hear of. It's a huge country; there are big cities; and how watched do we want to be to prevent this?

That said, if our media were more diligent and less worried about offending some ethnic group, and if they they took their eyes off Sarah Palin and the Tea Party once in awhile, they might actually be a help in protecting us. It makes me yearn for the days of the Watergate investigation and the Bush derangement syndrome. With the way the MSM portrays this country, sometimes I wonder if they are a hate group trying to discourage immigrants from coming here so they can hang on to all the good jobs.

And if the Obama Administration had not been so careless about classifying Ft. Hood and the recruitment office killings, it might have been able to send a stronger message about what the U.S. security forces would tolerate.

I really don't think you can learn explosives and bombs just using the internet. It takes some practice and support. Most people can't even light firecracker flares without getting hurt. I hope the FBI, DHS and police don't follow the President's reasoning that this is over. They've found the YouTube videos, and these aren't the only young men flexing their hatred for America.

Why does the left wing media like to portray Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold of the Columbine killings as white supremists? Apparently because it was April. The McVeigh killings were in April.  And he wasn’t part of a conspiracy either.  Or they need more chalk marks on the right side of the board. They were kids! They weren't bullied, they weren't outcasts, and they had good parents. The left just can't fathom evil, because they don't understand good.

Boston won’t give him a choice of words

Obama wouldn't call it terrorism, but Arkansas will.

"Senate Bill 630, which passed 35-0 and goes to the House, is known as “Andy’s Law” in honor of U.S. Army Pvt. William “Andy” Long of Conway, who was shot and killed outside a west Little Rock recruiting center in 2009. Pvt. Quinton Ezeagwula of Jacksonville was wounded in the shooting rampage."

Andy was killed by Abdulhakim Muhammad an American Muslim who had traveled to Yemen and Somalia for training.  Survivors of the Ft. Hood massacre also have had no justice from Obama, who calls it "work place violence."

What’s wrong with these people?

They are liberals.  And they were partially right; the brothers are white (ethnic Chechens although they never lived there), and one was a citizen of the USA, having come here as a child. I’m guessing if the citizen ever voted, it was for Obama.

The trial of Kermit Gosnell, the ghoulish late term abortionist of Philadelphia,  must have the pro-abortion folks worried. Even though the main stream media didn’t cover it, the news is getting around through social media.  As in photos of babies’ feet in jars, and of spinal cords snipped.  For the first time I can remember, I'm hearing radio ads on behalf of Planned Parenthood. The word abortion is never used; nor birth control; or even reproduction. Just access to health. Breast cancer is higher in women who abort their first pregnancy; suicide rate is higher for women who abort. Whose health? Planned Parenthood’s. Follow the money. Abortion is its money-maker. And minorities its target.

I can't think of any recent events that have been the result of right wing conspiracies, and certainly the Tea Party has been nothing but peaceful and patriotic, so why do the MSM go this route time after time?  Eventually, they’ll probably be right—but the “real right” like Hitler, were Socialists, aka National Socialism.  The KKK was created by the Democrat Party, as were Jim Crow laws and lynching to terrorize blacks into submission.

Arizona, Aurora, Sandy Hook,  the Austin plane attack (2010) by the guy who didn’t like the IRS,  the guys who murdered the army recruiters, and the various vandalism at recruiting stations, the woman who hated her promotion and tenure committee so she blew them away—none of these people were right wingers, or even particularly political.  They were evil or mentally deranged.    Even Timothy McVeigh 18 years ago was a loner and not part of any group plot. In his letter to the media he justifies his actions as being anti-military—bombing Serbia and Iraq at the time.  That doesn’t sound very right wing to me.  And he was executed for his crimes.  Have we executed Muslims for their crimes? Isn't the guy who shot Bobby Kennedy still in prison? The American Muslim who shot up Ft. Hood?  Has he been executed? 

This latest attack by the Chechen brothers the MSM can proudly say, was from “home grown, white terrorists,”  like some hoped, but immigrants from the former Soviet Union.  One a citizen, the other a legal resident.  But they are  most likely a part of a global philosophy that these liberals in the media and buddies of the president just can't seem to recognize.

COFFEE FILTERS

Who knew! And you can buy 1,000 at the Dollar Tree for almost nothing even the large ones.

1. Cover bowls or dishes when cooking in the microwave. Coffee filters make excellent covers.
2. Clean windows, mirrors, and chrome. Coffee filters are lint-free so they'll leave windows sparkling.
3. Protect China by separating your good dishes with a coffee filter between each dish.
4. Filter broken cork from wine. If you break the cork when opening a wine bottle, filter the wine through a coffee filter.
5. Protect a cast-iron skillet. Place a coffee filter in the skillet to absorb moisture and prevent rust.
6. Apply shoe polish. Ball up a lint-free coffee filter.
7. Recycle frying oil. After frying, strain oil through a sieve lined with a coffee filter.
8. Weigh chopped foods. Place chopped ingredients in a coffee filter on a kitchen scale.
9. Hold tacos. Coffee filters make convenient wrappers for messy foods.
10. Stop the soil from leaking out of a plant pot. Line a plant pot with a coffee filter to prevent the soil from going through the drainage holes.
11. Prevent a Popsicle from dripping. Poke one or two holes as needed in a coffee filter.
12. Do you think we used expensive strips to wax eyebrows? Use strips of coffee filters..
13. Put a few in a plate and put your fried bacon, French fries, chicken fingers, etc. on them. It soaks out all the grease.
14. Keep in the bathroom. They make great "razor nick fixers."
15. As a sewing backing. Use a filter as an easy-to-tear backing for embroidering or appliqueing soft fabrics.
16. Put baking soda into a coffee filter and insert into shoes or a closet to absorb or prevent odors.
17. Use them to strain soup stock and to tie fresh herbs in to put in soups and stews.
18. Use a coffee filter to prevent spilling when you add fluids to your car.
19. Use them as a spoon rest while cooking and clean up small counter spills.
20. Can use to hold dry ingredients when baking or when cutting a piece of fruit or veggies.  Saves on having extra bowls to wash.
21. Use them to wrap Christmas ornaments for storage.
22. Use them to remove fingernail polish when out of cotton balls.
23. Use them to sprout seeds.  Simply dampen the coffee filter, place seeds inside, fold it and place it into a plastic baggie until they sprout.
24. Use coffee filters as blotting paper for pressed flowers. Place the flowers between two coffee filters and put the coffee filters in phone book.
25. Use as a disposable "snack bowl" for popcorn, chips, etc.

Short attention span? Shorter books.

The hottest book publishing trend today--less is the new more, says Michael Levin, founder and CEO of BusinessGhost, Inc., who has written more than 100 books.

“The first time I saw a 73-page ‘book’ offered on Amazon, I was outraged,” says New York Times best selling author Michael Levin. “But I thought about how shredded the American attention span is. And I felt like Cortez staring at the Pacific.”

The trend in books today, Harry Potter notwithstanding, is toward books so short that in the past no self-respecting publisher—or author—would even have called them books. But today, shortened attention spans call for shorter books.

Levin blames smartphones and social media for what he calls “a worldwide adult epidemic of ADH, ooh, shiny!”

“Brain scientists tell us our brain chemistry has been transformed by short-burst communication such as texting, Tweeting, and Facebook posts,” Levin adds. “Long magazine articles have given way to 600-word blog posts. And doorstop-size books have been replaced by mini-books.”

This sudden change in attention spans changed the way Levin approaches ghostwriting. “Even five years ago, we aimed for 250-page books. Today we advise our business clients to do 50-page mini-books to meet impatient readers’ expectations for speedy delivery of information.”

Levin, who runs the ghostwriting firm BusinessGhost.com and was featured on ABC’s Shark Tank, says that people are looking for leadership disguised as a book. “Today,” he asserts, “people don’t want you to prove your assertions. They just want to know that you have legitimate answers to their questions and that they can trust you. If you can’t get buy-in with 50 pages today, you won’t get it in 250.”

The trend toward shorter books caused Levin to offer what he calls the “Book-Of-The-Quarter Club,” which creates four 50-page hardcover mini-books a year for BusinessGhost’s clients. “This allows them to address four different major issues, or four different sets of prospects, and provides quarterly opportunities for marketing events,” Levin says.

How short will books eventually run?

“Can you say ‘haiku’?” Levin asks. “We’re waiting for a three-line, 17 syllable book. It could happen.”

The other day I read the news article from the Huffington Post on the Internet about Obama claiming the gun lobbyists lied to the members of Congress and that's why the gun legislation didn't pass. I commented at the site:

Murray: “If anyone knows about lying it's Obama. He's done that throughout his entire political career.  How about the B.S. when he claimed he was at the hospital while his mother died because she had no medical insurance."

September 11 vs. April 15

Liberal media denied that Sept. 11, 2012 could have any significance for the Benghazi attacks, but for some reason thought April 15 must hold great importance for right wing Americans, obviously suspect in the Boston bombing.  Hey guys--most of us have the tax money confiscated all year long so it is ready for redistribution.

Should we be looking to Europe for guidance in health care?

In Europe they are combining euthanasia and organ harvesting how-to symposia to specifically target the disabled. Their organs are less likely to be damaged by diseases or accidents. Remember those death panels that weren't in Obamacare? They were in the Stimulus. Hitler went after the disabled before he targeted the Jews. It's important to desensitize the populace. Even liberals can get squeamish.

In Holland and Belgium they are probably wondering what the fuss is about in the Kermit Gosnell trial. The Lancet reports that about 8% of their infants who die--80-90 a year--are euthanized. And that was 1997--probably higher today. Sure, Gosnell was messy and spreading diseases to his patients, but the babies? Collateral damage of the pro-abortion, pro-euthanasia, anti-life movement. Perhaps the Nazis won after all?

Students petition to have gay teacher rehired at Catholic high school in Columbus.

Her lesbian relationship appeared in a public way--the newspaper.   I'm sure the school authorities knew, and there was a tacit agreement about her not announcing her relationship which she apparently did in her mother's obituary by announcing her partner as a survivor. There are thousands and thousands of Protestant churches that have no over site except the local congregation, no magisterium and no pope (except the one in the mirror). Where 2 or 3 are gathered, they create a new church to fit their private interpretation of scripture. 

If all those students signed the petition, then their parents have wasted a lot of money on private school tuition, or the school has done some very poor religious instruction. Remove the nature of the firing and replace it with something else the church teaches, such as denying the sacraments,  or the real presence in the Eucharist, or teaching birth control methods in health class. Would she be on staff?

This happened with the ELCA.  Lesbians were ordained as pastors decades ago with the agreement they would remain celibate.  They changed their minds and ripped the church apart for 2 decades, ending in a split and the formation of a new synod. Essentially, they said scripture and church rules didn’t matter, only their private interpretation. Chocolate Lasagna—looks criminally delicious

INGREDIENTS
1 package regular Oreo cookies (Not Double Stuff) – about 36 cookies
6 Tablespoon butter, melted
1- 8 ounce package cream cheese, softened
... 1/4 cup granulated sugar
2 Tablespoons cold milk
1- 12 ounce tub Cool Whip, divided
2 – 3.9 ounce packages Chocolate Instant Pudding.
3 1/4 cups cold milk
1 and 1/2 cups mini chocolate chips
DIRECTIONS
1. Begin by crushing 36 Oreo cookies. I used my food processor for this, but you could also place them in a large zip lock bag and crush them with a rolling pin. When the Oreos have turned into fine crumbs, you are done.
2. Transfer the Oreo crumbs to a large bowl. Stir in 6 tablespoons melted butter and use a fork to incorporate the butter into the cookie crumbs. When the butter is distributed, transfer the mixture to a 9 x 13 inch baking dish. Press the crumbs into the bottom of the pan. Place the pan in the refrigerator while you work on the additional layers.
3. Mix the cream cheese with a mixer until light and fluffy. Add in 2 Tablespoons of milk, and sugar, and mix well. Stir in 1 and 1/4 cups Cool Whip. Spread this mixture over the crust.
4. In a bowl, combine chocolate instant pudding with 3 and 1/4 cups cold milk. Whisk for several minutes until the pudding starts to thicken. Use a spatula to spread the mixture over the previous cream cheese layer. Allow the dessert to rest for about 5 minutes so that the pudding can firm up further.
5. Spread the remaining Cool Whip over the top. Sprinkle mini chocolate chips evenly over the top. Place in the freezer for 1 hour, or the refrigerator for 4 hours before serving.

Self-hatred among liberals

Sirota is a male, white American liberal, a political commentator and radio host based in Denver who writes for Slate.  Apparently he said something so stupid, it is hard to believe.  He said or tweeted or wrote that he hoped the bomber looks just like him (that's a paraphrase). Can you imagine a Mexican American or an African American or an Iranian American saying that?  What self hate and guilt consumes these white liberals. Maybe they really do know what their toxic politics are doing to babies and minorities? 

Based on the fact that most violent crimes are committed by males, and that whites are the majority in the country, their ancestors having come here from Europe to escape centuries of oppression, Marxism and dictatorships, that wouldn't be a bad guess.  However, few men know how to use pressure cookers. (Unless they can tomatoes.)  Really, you men should be embarrassed to claim him.

Regardless of who the terrorist is found to be in the Boston bombing, whether he be singleton or a groupie enamored of a philosophy that doesn't like American freedoms and symbols, our left leaning media and politicians seem bent on finding blame not among their own policies of down playing the seriousness of international terrorism, but on the right. After all, even the word had been struck from the official vocabulary, but there it was-- the deed.

Have abortion protestors caused the mayhem, disease and death perpetrated by abortionist Dr. Gosnell? 

Who has been in the streets marching against taxes on April 15?  I haven’t heard of a single story. Stories of Obama’s 18% tax rate, yes, I did hear that.

Were the first responders not quick enough that we should think higher taxes would have prevented this? 

Barney Frank, political hack,  and political strategist David Axelrod seem to be really messed up. They admitted they knew nothing, but shifted blame anyway.

Humor in headlines: Family held captive. . .

There’s a story in the Washington Post about a “Loudoun family held captive in home-invasion robbery.”  A reader suggests a better story line and says he’s unemployed and looking for a job—and could do a better job.  Personally, I always thought “home-invasion” was over kill for break-in.  And why are we left to speculate about the weapon?   “. . . used a weapon to hold the family against their will, authorities said.”  Was it a gun?  A pressure cooker?  A box cutter?

President Obama bases his gun control efforts on poll results that claim we the people want more restrictions on access to guns (he doesn't like the Constitution, especially those pesky amendments).

President Obama claims that polls show the overwhelming majority of Americans want to make it tougher for criminals and the mentally ill to own guns. Then he proposes legislation that will restrict only non-criminals and non-mentally ill.  At least, my definition of a criminal is someone who doesn’t obey the laws.

When John Atta Mills, the President of Ghana, died last year, then Secretary of State Hillary Clinton personally led the delegation to his funeral. But everyone knows Ghana is more important to our history and alliances than Great Britain. Obama can't pull anyone away from this gun control efforts, so everyone is too busy to honor Margaret Thatcher. Of course, that's bogus. He believes the free market and capitalism isn't important, and that is what she represents, so he won't honor her.

Just for "fun" I decided to read through the privacy rights I was giving away in order to complete a store survey (in order to enter a sweepstakes). I had to click through a number of hot links to even get to this level. Reminds me very much of HIPAA, which by the time you read through all the ways your privacy is protected, everyone except possibly the janitorial service has access to your medical records.

But apparently it’s never consensual if it’s a teacher and student.  She certainly sounds like she was consenting.

Farmington police said the allegations date back to 2010 and involve a now-former student who said that Rajkumar started groping her when she was 15 and that they had sex after she turned 17. The girl told police that she and Rajkumar had sex several times during some weeks, and that they had sex in a closet in his classroom.

Philadelphia Department of Health complicit in Gosnell killings

It's great that we're passing the news along about Kermit Gosnell [which the media have ignored], killer of women and babies in Philadelphia. But now the focus needs to shift to the health department which turned a blind eye for over a decade, while this man made millions. Hospitals reported the damaged women that were coming to them. Injured patients reported Gosnell. Their reports went nowhere. One of the health department officials was a doctor who when in private practice had been referring teens to Gosnell. The women and babies were primarily poor and minority. I doubt that this collapse of public health is limited to Pennsylvania. Our local agencies are afraid to do anything about abortion clinics. Helping the poor is often just a platform for building a power base.

When a mentally ill man kills his mother and shoots up a school it is news 24/7 for weeks and the President takes the dead with him on a campaign tour to regain the House. When Gosnell kills far more for decades, making himself a millionaire, it is ignored by the media and the White House.

PIZZA BALLS
3 cans Pillsbury Buttermilk Biscuits (10 per can),
56 pepperoni slices,
... block of Colby cheese,
1 beaten egg,
Parmesan, Italian seasoning, Garlic powder,
1 jar pizza sauce
Cut the block of cheese into 28 squares.
Flatten a biscuit out and stack pepperoni and cheese on top.
Gather up the edges of the biscuit.
Line up the rolls in a greased 9x13 in pan.
Brush with beaten egg.
Sprinkle with parmesan,
Italian seasoning and garlic powder.
Bake at 425°F for 18-20 minutes.
Use the pizza sauce for dipping

Finally, this past week,  USA Today and The Atlantic have published two opinion pieces from Democrats on the failure of the media to report on the murder of women and babies, and the filth and horror of Gosnell’s abortion clinic.

Trafficking in persons, United States, 2008-2010

Most confirmed human trafficking suspects were male (81%), while 19% were female. Based on cases in which race was known, nearly two-thirds (62%) of confirmed sex trafficking suspects were identified as black. Confirmed labor trafficking suspects were more likely to be identified as Hispanic (48%). Most suspects in confirmed sex trafficking incidents were between the ages of 18 and 34 (77%) and were U.S. citizens (86%).

About 8 in 10 of the suspected incidents of human trafficking were classified as sex trafficking, and about 1 in 10 incidents were classified as labor trafficking. Federal agencies were more likely to lead labor trafficking investigations (29%) than sex trafficking investigations (7%).

“When you perform late-term "abortions" by inducing labor, you get babies. Live, breathing, squirming babies. By 24 weeks, most babies born prematurely will survive if they receive appropriate medical care. But that was not what the Women's Medical Society was about. Gosnell had a simple solution for the unwanted babies he delivered: he killed them. He didn't call it that. He called it "ensuring fetal demise." The way he ensured fetal demise was by sticking scissors into the back of the baby's neck and cutting the spinal cord. He called that "snipping."

Over the years, there were hundreds of "snippings." Sometimes, if Gosnell was unavailable, the "snipping" was done by one of his fake doctors, or even by one of the administrative staff.”

“Marcella Stanley Choung, who told us that her "training" for anesthesia consisted of a 15-minute description by Gosnell and reading a chart he had posted in a cabinet. She was so uncomfortable medicating patients, she said, that she "didn't sleep at night." She knew that if she made even a small error, "I can kill this lady, and I'm not jail material." One night in 2002, when she found herself alone with 15 patients, she refused Gosnell's directives to medicate them. She made an excuse, went to her car, and drove away, never to return. Choung immediately filed a complaint with the Department of State, but the department never acted on it.”

The abortionist murders are not getting much play in the MSM. Last time I checked there had been 7 stories about his trial (some coverage when he was first accused), 6 were on Fox, one on CNN. Our president is one of the politicians who believes if the intention was to abort, then a born alive baby doesn't need medical attention because it might question a woman’s right to an abortion.*  So if the media covered this story, they might have to question his judgment.

Abby Johnson, former Planned Parenthood worker now pro-life activist, asks “What if Gosnell had been snipping the spinal cords of puppies after they were born?? Think THAT would be news worthy?? Our country has gone nuts.”

Yes, Abby, and this one starts at the top with the politicians, the academics, social workers, and yes, even pastors and priests.

The feldshars of the USSR

The old Soviet Union had a solution for our shrinking supply of doctors which is coming our way.  Feldshars with a few years of medical training.  When I was in graduate school in the 1960s I translated articles from a newspaper, Medisinskii Rabotnik for a professor of sociology.  They sent feldshars to the rural areas and left the doctors in the cities to enjoy ballet and symphony and stores with something on the shelves.  The government controlled the number, selection, salaries and the region where they were assigned.  How many of these physician-lite people do you think will want to come (or be assigned) to your small community?

This morning I had a doctor’s appointment with a specialist.  Not only was the computer system with all patient records down, but the back up (in Chicago) was down. They needed to rely on my recall.  Beginning in January they will be forced to get rid of all their paper files.  None of this EMR/EHR has ever been tested to see if it will save money or improve care, or protect our privacy.  It’s a boondoggle for government bureaucracy and a boon for the IT companies.  In the last 2 years, my regular doctor has been looking at the screen of his lap top instead of me, and saying they have a new software update he’s learning to use.

Obama is driving doctors out of private practice. How does that help the poor? The doctor I saw this morning has 5500 patients in private practice.  Many are low income.  Where will they go—someplace with long lines.  Where the rest of us will be. 

We had the best medical care in the world, and he wanted it taken down.

The Lucasville Prison riot

It's the 20th anniversary (Easter Sunday, April 11, 1993) of the Lucasville prison riot in Southern Ohio. We were on a visitor list for a prisoner we’d known at OP, so were inside the walls shortly after it opened. Some people thought it was too good, too palatial for hardened felons. And compared to the old Ohio Penitentiary in Columbus (now gone), it was nice. But if you don't have your freedom, it's just another prison. Remember that and think on the Bill of Rights which is being eroded daily by executive order, by regulation, by the courts, by the Congress, by political correctness, and by our own laziness.

Coconut flour—I’d never heard of it—but here it is

  • Coconut flour is rich in protein, fiber and fat which makes it exceptionally filling.
  • Coconut flour is also a good source of lauric acid, a saturated fat thought to support the immune system and the thyroid. Like most healthy fats, lauric acid also promotes good skin health.
  • Coconut flour is an exceptionally good source of manganese which helps you to better utilize many nutrients including choline and biotin (found in eggs), vitamin C and thiamin. Manganese also supports bone health, nervous system function, thyroid health and helps to maintain optimal blood sugar levels.
  • Coconut flour is not grain-based, and, as such does not present many of the issues that accompany grains. Coconut flour is gluten-free and, while it does contain food phytate, the mineral-binding effects of phytates in coconut are virtual nonexistent so coconut flour does not need to be soaked (read more about soaking coconut flour).

Salmon Cakes- Gluten Free

2 tablespoons onion, finely diced
2 tablespoons celery, finely diced
1 tablespoon parsley, finely chopped
... 1 small garlic clove, finely minced
1/4 cup avocado, mashed
1 teaspoon Old Bay seasoning (or other preferred seasoning)
1/4 teaspoon dried dill
6 oz cooked salmon
1 1/2 tablespoons coconut flour
2-3 tablespoons full-fat coconut milk*
2 tablespoons coconut oil

Finely chop the onion, celery, parsley, and garlic. Place the chopped veggies, avocado, seasoning, salmon, and coconut flour to a bowl. Mix well then add 2 tablespoons coconut milk and mix again. Add additional coconut milk, up to a tablespoon, if needed to hold the mixture together. Add additional salt and pepper to taste.

Form patties and arrange on a plate or other dish. Make 14-16 mini cakes or 5-7 medium sized cakes. Cover place and place in the refrigerator for approximately an hour.
To cook, heat coconut oil in skillet over med heat. When the oil is hot, add cakes, cooking in batches if necessary to avoid overcrowding. Fry 4-5 minutes per side, flipping only once (make sure first side is crispy and golden brown before flipping).

I don’t cook gluten free; just thought it sounded interesting.

National Equal Pay Day, April 9, declared

According to John Goodman in his Health Alert Letter:

A recent study shows. . ."no evidence that antidiscrimination policies have made a difference, including the actions of the Equal Employment Opportunities Commission (EEOC) and the Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP). . .  In addition to years of schooling and test scores, men and women differ in the amount of work they do. Men are more likely to work full-time; and among full time workers, men work 8%-10% more hours than women.  Also, men typically accumulate more continuous work experience and therefore acquire higher productivity in the labor market.  The gender gap shrinks to only 3½ % when adjustments are made for work experience, career breaks and part-time work."

My favorite equal pay story: One time I asked my boss Jay Ladd why Bruce (a librarian) made more money than I did when we had the same years of experience, almost the same name, and were both science librarians. He said, "Because he asked for more."

Obsequious, groveling, sniveling and up for a possible ambassadorship

Vogue editor Anna Wintour was a big fund raiser for President Obama and has Michelle Obama on the cover again and a puff piece inside called  "Leading by example." Laura Bush was up for the tough questions, but not the current FLOTUS.  Do they think she can’t handle it?

Unintended consequences of helping

Together our two parties have created a cushion for the unemployed, disabled, the poor, single mothers and low income--the earned income tax credit (EITC), child tax credits, Supplemental Security Income for the elderly poor, Medicaid, S-CHIP, Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), unemployment insurance, food stamps (SNAP), subsidized school meals, summer lunch programs, low-income housing assistance, energy assistance, block grants to create education programs that have almost no long term results (like Head Start), Social Services Block Grants (Ohio got $63 million+)  and more. GW Bush expanded the food stamp coverage in 2002 and 2008, and Obama added the people to the nearly 50 million today, so if there is a food stamp president, they should both have the “honor.”

For many receiving state and federal benefits, they can't afford to work, or take a raise/better job because they would lose benefits. I heard a man on a Christian talk show last week say that after he and his wife lived together (blended family) for 3 years, they decided to marry because they thought it was a poor example for the kids, but she lost a lot of benefits by getting married.  I doubt that this was the intention of these programs, many begun in the 1960s, but it is the unintended consequences of making people more helpless and less independent. 

The only difference between the parties is the Republicans say this isn't good but vote to add to the deficit anyway, and the Democrats love it because it buys them votes. And it takes 74% of our federal budget when you toss in Social Security and Medicare for the older not poor (who paid into those programs their entire working lives).

This Ohio State student (or maybe faculty) thinks everyone who has an abortion is a crack head and on welfare. That's the liberals' solution for poverty, disability and addiction--kill them before they can cost money.  All these methods were first tested on black, brown and poor women and girls so they would be safe for college co-eds like Ms. Poster Stomper.

Maybe giving women the vote was a mistake

The USSR and Maoist China tried this, Melissa. "MSNBC Host Melissa Harris-Perry narrating a new MSNBC “Lean Forward” spot, laments that we in America “haven’t had a very collective notion that these are our children.” She said, “we have to break through our kind of private idea that kids belong to their parents or kids belong to their families, and recognize that kids belong to their communities.” Fits right in with the compulsory pre-k program Obama wants.

She's also the one who called an unborn baby "a thing" when explaining the cost of raising a child. "When you’re talking about what it actually costs to have this thing turn into a human, why not allow women to make the best choices that we can with as many resources and options instead of trying to come in and regulate this process?”

But apparently regulating is fine after they are born, just not before.

Monday Memories—Schmidt’s

Our Friday night date spot for years was Schmidt’s Sausage House in German Village.  I always ordered a Bahama Mama and my husband got the bratwurst.  Then they opened a restaurant on Henderson Road, maybe early 1990s.  It didn’t last long, and closed—no warning—we were there on a Friday and it closed on Monday.  By that time, we’d decided eating close to home was kind of nice, instead of fighting traffic to go down down town. For awhile we did Gottliebs on Third Ave., closing it down, and a spot on Fishinger Rd. in Upper Arlington, also closing it after a few years, and one on Rt. 33 that had a great view of the river, closing it.  We switched to Old Bag of Nails in Tremont Center, and it’s still going, but we eventually changed to Rusty Bucket on Lane Avenue because Old Bag dropped our favorite menu item.  Still miss those Cream Puffs from Schmidt’s, however. The founder of Schmidt’s,  Geo. F. Schmidt, passed away today at 91.

How low can he go?

I really thought my opinion of our president couldn’t sink any lower, but his use and abuse of the families of the Sandy Hook tragedy just blows my mind.  He will do anything to achieve his political ends.  His agenda is to 1) short term, take back the House, and 2) long term, destroy the Bill of Rights, and he will use these children’s deaths to do it.  Hundreds of Black children die in Chicago his home city of beatings, strangulation and guns, and he does nothing, because that doesn’t get him the House in 2014. The man is beyond contempt.
