It’s a kitchen tool from my stove drawer, and I think I’ve had it at least 51 years. I think its purpose is to remove hot things from water—like baby bottles being sterilized—something we used to do, when we moms made formula. For the last few decades I’ve only used it occasionally—probably for salads or to pull something hot out of the oven or microwave. But I don’t know what it’s called.
I was watching YouTube and an OB-GYN, Dr. Levantino, speaking on Priests for Life while rather drily describing a 2nd trimester abortion (D & E), of which he’d done several hundred. He was using fetal models, but had the actual tools to dilate the cervix and invade the uterus (that’s a medical term—invade—not kidding). My tool has some semi-sharp teeth for griping, but his were very pointed and sharp and straight, less curving. He described going into the uterus with the tool, grabbing an arm or leg of a living baby with those sharp teeth, all by feel since he can’t see what he’s doing, and twisting and pulling, until a little arm or leg came out. The limb or heart or lung was then laid on a tray because after the abortion, all the pieces had to reassembled or the woman/girl could hemorrhage.
I don’t think I’ll use this tool again.
How many pro-choice voters, who send donations to Planned Parenthood, the largest provider of abortions in the U.S., know what goes on during an abortion? The doctor said sometimes he pulled out a little face that was looking back at him.

We have always had one of those at our house in the kitchen too. My mom was a home education major and we call them tongs.

Your main tool for griping is not this metal tongs that you display. The metal tongs is a tool for gripping.
