Transgendered military

The New York Times this week claimed 15,000 members of the military are transgendered (mostly male to female according to other sources). That would mean over 1% of the military are transgendered. The Center of Excellence for Transgender Health at University of California at San Francisco estimates 1 in 30,000 people is a transwoman (biologically male) and 1 in 100,000 people is transman (biologically female). Even if every transgendered person in America were now active duty military, that’s a long way from 15,000. Or, correct my math.

Excellent point. Special interests love to lie with statistics.

If 1 in 4 is 25%, then 1 in 100,000, is a 1 behind a whole lot of zeros,.00001, giving an infinitesimal figure, and multiply that times our 300+ million population (3,000+) makes the NYT look pretty silly.

Maybe this is why the editor was fired. Couldn't do math.

There are studies that suggest a higher number of person who have transition with and without the surgery. If you look at the studies by Professor Lynn Conway you will find these numbers.
TG transitioners (w/o SRS):
1:200 suggested number
1:1000 conservative number of TS
TS transitioners (w SRS):
1:500
1:2500

So you see your numbers are very low.

These are not my numbers. The Center of Excellence for Transgender Health at University of California at San Francisco, and they cover many topics, but I think I'll trust their numbers.
