The guest room closet re-do

We’re remodeling the two upstairs bathrooms which has meant rearranging everything in the closets.  The guest room closet will now just hold out of season coats, the Christmas boxes, and some storage.  For the storage, I’ve purchased matching green boxes, the same color as the the guest bath walls.  Now, I’m repacking things into them.

Repacking the boxes of cards and letters saved over 50 years—now that’s a job.  I’ve done this before, and sent back to the writer, many letters.  But there are many notes and letters inside these cards.  For some reason I was writing little notes to my husband back in the 70s. I don't know the dates or situations (some sounded serious). I did find this written on the back of an envelope.

A young mother was trying to comfort her daughter when her pet kitten died, saying, "Remember, dear, Fluffy is up in heaven now with God." "But Mommy," the girl sobbed, "What in the world would God want with a dead cat?"

How many pregnancies result from assault rape?

Let's look, using the figure of 200,000 rapes each year—and that’s a high figure (figure for 2004-2005 was around 64,000). 

• Of the 200,000 women who were forcibly raped, one-third were either too old or too young to get pregnant. That leaves 133,000 at risk for pregnancy.
• A woman is capable of being fertilized only 3 days (perhaps 5) out of a 30-day month. Multiply our figure of 133,000 by three tenths. Three days out of 30 is one out of ten, divide 133 by ten and we have 13,300 women remaining. If we use five days out of 30 it is one out of six. Divide one hundred and thirty three thousand by six and we have 22,166 remaining.
• One-fourth of all women in the United States of childbearing age have been sterilized, so the remaining three-fourths come out to 10,000 (or 15,000).
• Only half of assailants penetrate her body and/or deposit sperm in her vagina,¹ so let's cut the remaining figures in half. This gives us numbers of 5,000 (or 7,500).
• Fifteen percent of men are sterile, that drops that figure to 4,250 (or 6,375).
• Fifteen percent of non-surgically sterilized women are naturally sterile. That reduces the number to 3,600 (or 5,400).
• Another fifteen percent are on the pill and/or already pregnant. That reduces the number to 3,070 (or 4,600).
• Now factor in the fact that it takes 5-10 months for the average couple to achieve a pregnancy. Use the smaller figure of 5 months to be conservative and divide the above figures by 5. The number drops to 600 (or 920).
• In an average population, the miscarriage rate is about 15 percent. In this case we have incredible emotional trauma. Her body is upset. Even if she conceives, the miscarriage rate will be higher than in a more normal pregnancy. If 20 percent of raped women miscarry, the figure drops to 450 (or 740).

Now, then, many women who become pregnant through assault rape choose not to compound the crime by killing the baby, and they don’t abort.

Slavery is bigger now than in the 18th century

Tomorrow night Glenn Beck will be doing a special on sex slavery, and reported on the Cleveland case tonight of the 3 girls held hostage for a decade, but the special had been in the works for months. We like to think slavery in this country ended with the Civil War, but in fact, it's a bigger business today than in the 18th and 19th century. It involves a lot of children, and includes boys for the gay trade. The newer term is "Trafficking in persons," but slavery is slavery, and it also includes labor. Gay babies were aborted?

"In the eight days since NBA player Jason Collins announced he was gay, the news media have covered the story in 2,381 places. But in the first eight days of the trial of Dr. Kermit Gosnell and his “House of Horrors” abortion business, the media covered the story in 115 places, meaning that Collins’ “gay” news received more than 1,970.4% more news coverage." About 40% of the babies in Gosnell’s clinic were black, and we can assume at least 2% were potentially gay, since that's the national figure. Maybe the pro-life people just aren't using the right argument that a murderer of babies deserves more new coverage than a basketball player who made 4 points his last season and needs some publicity to help his career.

Is Obama talking about how American history and political science are taught in public schools and our colleges that drives parents to home school? Is he talking about FDR imprisoning almost a million German, Italian and Japanese American citizens during WWII? Or is he talking about broken treaties with Indians? Is he talking about Bill Ayers and some of the Communists in his White House and our elite universities who constantly bad mouth America? Or maybe Rev. Wright where he attended church for 20 years and said, God Damn America in his sermons. It was governments killing their own citizens in the 20th century that caused the biggest loss of lives--not wars between competing political systems. Citizens always need to be vigilant.

What’s best in Columbus?

           

We've been living in Columbus since 1967. This morning when I read the (614) magazine "ColumBest" I felt like I moved here yesterday. Only recognized a few places/people voted Best with which I'm personally familiar. Like OSU, First Watch, Old Bag of Nails, Schmidt's, Wexner Center for the Arts, Mid-Ohio Food Bank, Market District, Huntington Bank, and Carfagna's. You can pick up a copy (free-circ) at Giant Eagle, and probably other stores.

That said, the last page (p. 134) editorial (hard to read white print on black paper) is beyond naive. It's about the Boston bombing. Not a word about what motivated the Tsarnaev brothers, and we all know what that was--Islamic jihad. He uses the analogy of Americans feeling like they live in a pressure cooker to the bomb fixings they used.  Really lame. He called them shysters, charlatans, and sh*ts. Deluded, foul and misguided. Every name except what they are. Shame on you David S. Lewis for not digging deeper.

Hand hygiene is not a no-brainer

“Healthcare workers also need to learn the proper technique for hand hygiene. People are supposed to rub their hands together for a minimum of 15 seconds when washing their hands. Even people who think they wash their hands for the full 15 seconds typically do not meet that minimum in the training exercise, she says. Awareness of both the proper technique and one's execution of this technique is therefore critical to ensuring hand hygiene compliance and preventing infections.

Another important lesson is the difference between soap and water and alcohol sanitizers, according to Ms. Watson. Alcohol hand sanitizers are more effective at eliminating pathogens except when hands are visibly soiled, when the caregiver has blood and body fluids on their hands or when they have worked with specific organisms that require mechanical removal — for which soap and water should be used, she says. “

Watergate created a storm that brought down Nixon. No one was killed. He just wanted to win reelection so there was a cover up of a break in. Obama and his staff did something much worse on Sept. 11, 2012, and tried the same cover up, only the consequences were much more serious. The media kept quite. "What difference does it make," "It was a long time ago." His followers are so blind, I suspect he could have been reelected even if he'd told the truth.

The President isn't the least bit worried that his teen daughter will buy the legal drug levonorgestrel to prevent pregnancy after illegal intercourse now available with his blessings to very young teens OTC without parental knowledge. They've got the protection of the Secret Service on their dates. That trumps any birth control. I don't think any guy will be taking advantage of their youth and inexperience. It's the same attitude he has toward guns--he and not thee.

While debating the issue of the Washington Redskins as an appropriate name for the team, maybe more people should look at what the federal and state governments actually DO to REAL Native Americans who have been receiving cradle to grave government assistance for all of my life time. The only ones who do well are those who choose to either be a government lackey bureaucrat, or leave the subsidies behind and live free and responsible in society without Big Brother hovering.  But then that's true of most people; their situation is just a little more obvious since it's been going on longer. Look at any government program for health, education, military, children, nutrition, elderly, housing, etc. and there's a special siphon for Native Americans plus thousands of grants to non-profits who live off these Americans.

Things have changed since I attended the U. of I.

The House of Representatives

No constitutional requirement limits the size of the House to 435 representatives (as set in 1911), in fact, if we followed the Constitution (one representative for each 30,000 citizens) we'd have over 9,000 representatives in the House. But that's the sort of power that was intended for us, the people. The power now resides in the Presidency first, and the Courts second. The people come in last. In the 18th century Americans didn't want a king; now apparently they do. We’re upside down.

By now you've heard the "God bless you" ending of Obama's speech at Planned Parenthood, the country's largest abortion provider, last Friday. Have you heard his first sentence? "I love you." It was off teleprompter and shouted out as he greeted his enthusiastic, cheering sycophant audience. He thrives on this type of devotion--and these days, with an anemic economy, expanding wars, smudged red lines, what's a guy to do but get cheers from the lowest common denominator? Is there another leader in history so eager to personally destroy his subjects before they can vote against him? His denigration of marriage and putting road blocks at every turn for Christians whether in health care or the military or education is just the unraveling of what we used to be.

Planned Parenthood performed 333,964 abortions in fiscal 2011, an increase of 4,519 from the 329,445 abortions it did in 2010. Abortion is not its only service, but it is the big money maker. PP assets are $1.2 billion, and still it gets our tax dollars.

Obama didn't use the word "abortion" even once in his 12 minute speech, but used "health" 27 times. Planned Parenthood is not about health--except in the sense that the Gulag was a hospital, or Buchenwald a rest home for tired workers soon to die of overwork.

Buttermilk bacon pralines

I haven’t tried this recipe, but it certainly sounds yummy.

Ingredients

1 cup granulated sugar

1/2 cup packed light brown sugar

1/2 cup buttermilk

1 tablespoon light corn syrup

1/2 teaspoon baking soda

1/4 teaspoon coarse salt

4 tablespoons butter

1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 cup chopped pecans

1/2 teaspoon orange zest

4 slices bacon, cooked crisp and crumbled

Directions

1. In a heavy deep saucepan, combine the sugars, the buttermilk, corn syrup, baking soda and salt. Cook slowly over medium heat for about 20 minutes, until the mixture reaches 235 on a candy thermometer.

2. Remove from heat and add butter, vanilla, pecans, orange zest and bacon and beat with a wooden spoon until creamy. Be very careful - this stuff is HOT.

3. Drop by teaspoonsful onto a silicone mat or buttered parchment paper. Let stand for 30 minutes or until cool and firm.

Architects and Engineers may be losing money through inefficiency

June Jewell, a CPA and owner of Acuity Business Solutions consulting, says the architectural, engineering and environmental firms she works for easily lose $100,000 each year through inefficient and ineffective practices.

“Of course, sometimes the waste is much, much more – and this goes for larger and smaller businesses,” says Jewell, author of “Find the Lost Dollars: 6 Steps to Increase Profits in Architecture, Engineering, and Environmental Firms,” (www.FindTheLostDollars.com). “The problems are usually so fundamental to a business that they will never see why and how they’re bleeding money; they’re too close.”

There are several nooks and crannies in which firms are apt to lack efficiency. Jewell reviews three general areas where most of these firms can turn unnecessary losses to gains:

• Company culture: While the culture may vary somewhat from one firm to another, architectural, engineering and environmental firms share some of the same characteristics. One is that their founders tend to go into business because they’re creative people who love what they do -- not because they’re business people. So they don’t focus on profits, and they tend to be casual managers with regard to employees’ time. Shifting the culture to a focus of being profitable is not only necessary for sustaining the business; it allows creative people to do more of what they love.

• Ineffective practices: Of course, there are many moving parts in an A&E firm, which means there are many potential areas for improvement. That includes customer service, time management, marketing, strategic planning, accurate budgets and estimates, and the cost of lost opportunities. Failure to create an accurate, meticulous job estimate, for instance, can have multiple consequences, from having disappointed clients to jeopardize projects to losing money because time, materials and other costs were not accurately forecast.

• Systems & IT: This is the third way to improve business management and increase profits. Technology is able to help companies leverage their resources more effectively, yet many of them are still using outdated software and non-integrated systems. By looking at systems as a strategic investment that can help them to be more competitive, they can realize a great return on investment (ROI) from their projects. While the transition from old to new software has its cost in time and work, the efficiency gained in future work production is worth it.

“I’ve worked with hundreds of A&E firms in my 28 years of consulting, and I see these shared problems so often, I offer what I call ‘the $100K Challenge,’ ’’ Jewell says. “That’s a guarantee that I can work with any business that’s doing a few million dollars a year in business and find $100,000 they’re losing in profits.”

In this post-recession economy, she says, it’s vital for firms to tune up their business management practices in order to thrive.

The police have a lot more fire power than the citizens

This is what the Boston police had to track down 2 guys who maimed and killed with ordinary kitchen cooking tools.  They finally lifted the ban and a man went outside to smoke and found one of the brothers in his boat.  It is shocking that 2 terrorists managed to shut down a whole city and several suburbs and all we had was unarmed citizens (strict gun laws in Mass.) and police with tanks and machine guns.  Scary. I’m sure this has sent a message all over the world.

Cancers caused by CT scans?

My cousin includes little snippets of medical information in her weekly news to friends and relatives. This keeps my library skills sharp because sometimes I look at the original source—if not the source she quotes, which is usually for lay people, then the cited research. After so many years in a medical library, I just like that stuff.   So when I saw

“According to April 2013 “Health Alert”: CT scans=800 chest x-rays. Nuclear scans=2000 chest x-rays. Medicine causes 30,000 cancers annually. Drugs, medical procedures, surgeries and scans are the #1 cause of death in America every year.”

I decided to look it up.   Health Alert which may have cited the sources is a fairly common title, so I skipped that.   I haven’t found all of it, but I found several articles referring to a 2007 study, then found this editorial about CT scans in Arch Intern Med. 2009;169(22):2049-2050, which is a little easier to read than the research and provides some information on how the study on CT scans was done:

Although if they were using Medicare claims data, those patients mostly likely won’t be around in 20-30 years given that the reason they were having a CT scan in the first place might have put them at some sort of health risk.  Also, it would be interesting (and I might look) to see how common CT scans are for younger people who are much healthier than the over 65 demographic.   That said, Dr. Redberg’s advice about being cautious should be noted.

The other study by Bindman [free] noted in Archives reports  a patient could get as much radiation from one CT scan as 74 mammograms or 442 chest X-rays.  That’s less than cited in Health Alert, but still way more than one would expect.  You would certainly want to weigh the benefits of so much radiation. Bindman also noted that CTs used to be recommended only for the very sick, and are now often used for people who are basically healthy and therefore exposing them to a lot of risk.

Why we need to continue praying

Congressional leaders in both parties are engaged in high-level, confidential talks about exempting lawmakers and Capitol Hill aides from the insurance exchanges they are mandated to join as part of President Barack Obama’s health care overhaul, sources in both parties said.

George W. Bush's popularity is up. That happens with most presidents, but usually not in 5 years. History judges them.

Obama has helped that by not bringing the troops home, not closing GITMO, redefining terrorism as workplace violence, or just ignoring it, by taking credit for the killing of Osama bin Laden, when it was the "interrogation" techniques of the Bush era that provided the intelligence, by flubbing and lying about Benghazi, by dancing on the graves of the poor dead children of Sandy Hook for his personal political gain, by rushing to mega storm Sandy, which made no difference in the recovery and the victims suffered for months, by worsening race relations by constantly playing the race card, by raising taxes on everyone with his lies about healthcare, by crony capitalism worse than Bush-Cheney fans could have imagined which has enriched the "fat cats" he loves to criticize, and by exhibiting extremely poor taste in his family's hedonistic life style while so many people still suffer from the recession.

Yes, Bush will probably be glad to see him and shake the hand of the man who made America miss him.

She didn't believe in abortion but felt she had no other choice. During the ultrasound, the nurse was able to find a heartbeat and dated the pregnancy at six weeks. Molly did not want to see the ultrasound screen and refused pictures. The nurse spoke with her about her concerns and shared resources that could help should she decide to continue the pregnancy. She left the appointment undecided. A few days later, our nurse called with the physician's review and Molly said that after talking things over more with her boyfriend she had decided to continue the pregnancy! Our nurse gave her more information about how to get started with prenatal care and other resources. She also invited her to come back to PDHC for maternity clothes and parenting classes. “

40-50 years ago this would have been a no-brainer.  She knows this is a sibling of her child; a grandchild of her parents; knows what it is to be a mother.  Why snuff out a life that others would welcome?

Let’s not shed more blood for Islamic civil wars

Everyone by 2015 will be paying more taxes under the President's plan--except of course, those who don't pay any taxes. Although even the poor get to pay more taxes for their cigarettes--the poor and less educated do not respond to price pressure so most will continue to smoke anyway.  Cigarette excise taxes are regressive--lower income smokers spend a disproportionate share of their income on cigarette taxes compared to smokers with greater incomes . In NY from 2003–2004 to 2010–2011, the percentage of income spent on cigarettes for smokers with annual incomes less than $30,000 more than doubled (11.6% to 23.6%). These taxes really hurt the poor--and the first tax Obama passed in 2009 was $1 on cigarettes.  He's not the first president to lie about taxes, but we've got more gullible voters these days. And they ARE educated.

Students at Bishop Watterson High School in Columbus, Ohio are petitioning and organizing to have a gay teacher reinstated. Unless they wish to attend a government school, this is a bad idea. Unlike Protestants who protest and regroup at the slightest secular wind change, Catholics have a few more restrictions. Protestants get to have the burden of private interpretation of scripture and see the pope in the mirror every morning; Roman Catholics do not. The government has already destroyed the Catholic adoption agencies by insisting children be placed, not for their best interest, but the desires of the adopting couple. Let's not destroy a very fine school system by misguided beliefs about the purpose of sexuality.

People are being quick to judge the current administration for failures to apprehend the Tsarnaev brothers before they assembled their arsenal and bombs (in a state with strict gun control). I'll wait (surprise!). There are hundreds of plots foiled that we never hear of. It's a huge country; there are big cities; and how watched do we want to be to prevent this?

That said, if our media were more diligent and less worried about offending some ethnic group, and if they they took their eyes off Sarah Palin and the Tea Party once in awhile, they might actually be a help in protecting us. It makes me yearn for the days of the Watergate investigation and the Bush derangement syndrome. With the way the MSM portrays this country, sometimes I wonder if they are a hate group trying to discourage immigrants from coming here so they can hang on to all the good jobs.

And if the Obama Administration had not been so careless about classifying Ft. Hood and the recruitment office killings, it might have been able to send a stronger message about what the U.S. security forces would tolerate.

I really don't think you can learn explosives and bombs just using the internet. It takes some practice and support. Most people can't even light firecracker flares without getting hurt. I hope the FBI, DHS and police don't follow the President's reasoning that this is over. They've found the YouTube videos, and these aren't the only young men flexing their hatred for America.

Why does the left wing media like to portray Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold of the Columbine killings as white supremists? Apparently because it was April. The McVeigh killings were in April.  And he wasn’t part of a conspiracy either.  Or they need more chalk marks on the right side of the board. They were kids! They weren't bullied, they weren't outcasts, and they had good parents. The left just can't fathom evil, because they don't understand good.

Andy was killed by Abdulhakim Muhammad an American Muslim who had traveled to Yemen and Somalia for training.  Survivors of the Ft. Hood massacre also have had no justice from Obama, who calls it "work place violence."

And minorities its target.

Arizona, Aurora, Sandy Hook,  the Austin plane attack (2010) by the guy who didn’t like the IRS,  the guys who murdered the army recruiters, and the various vandalism at recruiting stations, the woman who hated her promotion and tenure committee so she blew them away—none of these people were right wingers, or even particularly political.  They were evil or mentally deranged.    Even Timothy McVeigh 18 years ago was a loner and not part of any group plot. In his letter to the media he justifies his actions as being anti-military—bombing Serbia and Iraq at the time.  That doesn’t sound very right wing to me.  And he was executed for his crimes.  Have we executed Muslims for their crimes? Isn't the guy who shot Bobby Kennedy still in prison? The American Muslim who shot up Ft. Hood?  Has he been executed? 

This latest attack by the Chechen brothers the MSM can proudly say, was from “home grown, white terrorists,”  like some hoped, but immigrants from the former Soviet Union.  One a citizen, the other a legal resident.  But they are  most likely a part of a global philosophy that these liberals in the media and buddies of the president just can't seem to recognize.

COFFEE FILTERS

Who knew! And you can buy 1,000 at the Dollar Tree for almost nothing even the large ones.

1. Cover bowls or dishes when cooking in the microwave. Coffee filters make excellent covers.
2. Clean windows, mirrors, and chrome. Coffee filters are lint-free so they'll leave windows sparkling.
3. Protect China by separating your good dishes with a coffee filter between each dish.
4. Filter broken cork from wine. If you break the cork when opening a wine bottle, filter the wine through a coffee filter.
5. Protect a cast-iron skillet. Place a coffee filter in the skillet to absorb moisture and prevent rust.
6. Apply shoe polish. Ball up a lint-free coffee filter.
7. Recycle frying oil. After frying, strain oil through a sieve lined with a coffee filter.
8. Weigh chopped foods. Place chopped ingredients in a coffee filter on a kitchen scale.
9. Hold tacos. Coffee filters make convenient wrappers for messy foods.
10. Stop the soil from leaking out of a plant pot. Line a plant pot with a coffee filter to prevent the soil from going through the drainage holes.
11. Prevent a Popsicle from dripping. Poke one or two holes as needed in a coffee filter.
12. Do you think we used expensive strips to wax eyebrows? Use strips of coffee filters..
13. Put a few in a plate and put your fried bacon, French fries, chicken fingers, etc. on them. It soaks out all the grease.
14. Keep in the bathroom. They make great "razor nick fixers."
15. As a sewing backing. Use a filter as an easy-to-tear backing for embroidering or appliqueing soft fabrics.
16. Put baking soda into a coffee filter and insert into shoes or a closet to absorb or prevent odors.
17. Use them to strain soup stock and to tie fresh herbs in to put in soups and stews.
18. Use a coffee filter to prevent spilling when you add fluids to your car.
19. Use them as a spoon rest while cooking and clean up small counter spills.
20. Can use to hold dry ingredients when baking or when cutting a piece of fruit or veggies.  Saves on having extra bowls to wash.
21. Use them to wrap Christmas ornaments for storage.
22. Use them to remove fingernail polish when out of cotton balls.
23. Use them to sprout seeds.  Simply dampen the coffee filter, place seeds inside, fold it and place it into a plastic baggie until they sprout.
24. Use coffee filters as blotting paper for pressed flowers. Place the flowers between two coffee filters and put the coffee filters in phone book.
25. Use as a disposable "snack bowl" for popcorn, chips, etc.

The hottest book publishing trend today--less is the new more, says Michael Levin, founder and CEO of BusinessGhost, Inc., who has written more than 100 books.

“The first time I saw a 73-page ‘book’ offered on Amazon, I was outraged,” says New York Times best selling author Michael Levin. “But I thought about how shredded the American attention span is. And I felt like Cortez staring at the Pacific.”

The trend in books today, Harry Potter notwithstanding, is toward books so short that in the past no self-respecting publisher—or author—would even have called them books. But today, shortened attention spans call for shorter books.

Levin blames smartphones and social media for what he calls “a worldwide adult epidemic of ADH, ooh, shiny!”

“Brain scientists tell us our brain chemistry has been transformed by short-burst communication such as texting, Tweeting, and Facebook posts,” Levin adds. “Long magazine articles have given way to 600-word blog posts. And doorstop-size books have been replaced by mini-books.”

This sudden change in attention spans changed the way Levin approaches ghostwriting. “Even five years ago, we aimed for 250-page books. Today we advise our business clients to do 50-page mini-books to meet impatient readers’ expectations for speedy delivery of information.”

Levin, who runs the ghostwriting firm BusinessGhost.com and was featured on ABC’s Shark Tank, says that people are looking for leadership disguised as a book. “Today,” he asserts, “people don’t want you to prove your assertions. They just want to know that you have legitimate answers to their questions and that they can trust you. If you can’t get buy-in with 50 pages today, you won’t get it in 250.”

The trend toward shorter books caused Levin to offer what he calls the “Book-Of-The-Quarter Club,” which creates four 50-page hardcover mini-books a year for BusinessGhost’s clients. “This allows them to address four different major issues, or four different sets of prospects, and provides quarterly opportunities for marketing events,” Levin says.

How short will books eventually run?

“Can you say ‘haiku’?” Levin asks. “We’re waiting for a three-line, 17 syllable book. It could happen.”

September 11 vs. April 15

Should we be looking to Europe for guidance in health care?

In Europe they are combining euthanasia and organ harvesting how-to symposia to specifically target the disabled. Their organs are less likely to be damaged by diseases or accidents. Remember those death panels that weren't in Obamacare? They were in the Stimulus. Hitler went after the disabled before he targeted the Jews. It's important to desensitize the populace. In Holland and Belgium they are probably wondering what the fuss is about in the Kermit Gosnell trial. The Lancet reports that about 8% of their infants who die--80-90 a year--are euthanized. And that was 1997--probably higher today. Sure, Gosnell was messy and spreading diseases to his patients, but the babies? Collateral damage of the pro-abortion, pro-euthanasia, anti-life movement. Perhaps the Nazis won after all?

It’s been a tough week

            

So thankful for all the first responders and volunteers who selflessly stepped up to save lives in Boston and West, Texas.

At the nursing home in Texas, one man pulled out 16 people from the collapsed building.

Students petition to have gay teacher rehired at Catholic high school in Columbus.

Her lesbian relationship appeared in a public way--the newspaper.   I'm sure the school authorities knew, and there was a tacit agreement about her not announcing her relationship which she apparently did in her mother's obituary by announcing her partner as a survivor. There are thousands and thousands of Protestant churches that have no over site except the local congregation, no magisterium and no pope (except the one in the mirror). Where 2 or 3 are gathered, they create a new church to fit their private interpretation of scripture. 

If all those students signed the petition, then their parents have wasted a lot of money on private school tuition, or the school has done some very poor religious instruction. Remove the nature of the firing and replace it with something else the church teaches, such as denying the sacraments,  or the real presence in the Eucharist, or teaching birth control methods in health class. Would she be on staff?

This happened with the ELCA.  Lesbians were ordained as pastors decades ago with the agreement they would remain celibate.  They changed their minds and ripped the church apart for 2 decades, ending in a split and the formation of a new synod. Essentially, they said scripture and church rules didn’t matter, only their private interpretation. Chocolate Lasagna—looks criminally delicious

INGREDIENTS
1 package regular Oreo cookies (Not Double Stuff) – about 36 cookies
6 Tablespoon butter, melted
1- 8 ounce package cream cheese, softened
... 1/4 cup granulated sugar
2 Tablespoons cold milk
1- 12 ounce tub Cool Whip, divided
2 – 3.9 ounce packages Chocolate Instant Pudding.
3 1/4 cups cold milk
1 and 1/2 cups mini chocolate chips
DIRECTIONS
1. Begin by crushing 36 Oreo cookies. I used my food processor for this, but you could also place them in a large zip lock bag and crush them with a rolling pin. When the Oreos have turned into fine crumbs, you are done.
2. Transfer the Oreo crumbs to a large bowl. Stir in 6 tablespoons melted butter and use a fork to incorporate the butter into the cookie crumbs. When the butter is distributed, transfer the mixture to a 9 x 13 inch baking dish. Press the crumbs into the bottom of the pan. Place the pan in the refrigerator while you work on the additional layers.
3. Mix the cream cheese with a mixer until light and fluffy. Add in 2 Tablespoons of milk, and sugar, and mix well. Stir in 1 and 1/4 cups Cool Whip. Spread this mixture over the crust.
4. In a bowl, combine chocolate instant pudding with 3 and 1/4 cups cold milk. Whisk for several minutes until the pudding starts to thicken. Use a spatula to spread the mixture over the previous cream cheese layer. Allow the dessert to rest for about 5 minutes so that the pudding can firm up further.
5. Spread the remaining Cool Whip over the top. Sprinkle mini chocolate chips evenly over the top. Place in the freezer for 1 hour, or the refrigerator for 4 hours before serving.

Self-hatred among liberals

David J. Sirota is a male, white American liberal, a political commentator and radio host based in Denver who writes for Slate.  Apparently he said something so stupid, it is hard to believe.  He said or tweeted or wrote that he hoped the bomber looks just like him (that's a paraphrase). Can you imagine a Mexican American or an African American or an Iranian American saying that?  What self hate and guilt consumes these white liberals. Maybe they really do know what their toxic politics are doing to babies and minorities? 

Based on the fact that most violent crimes are committed by males, and that whites are the majority in the country, their ancestors having come here from Europe to escape centuries of oppression, Marxism and dictatorships, that wouldn't be a bad guess.  However, few men know how to use pressure cookers. (Unless they can tomatoes.)  Really, you men should be embarrassed to claim him.

Axelrod and Frank, doing what the left does best—blame first, investigate late

Regardless of who the terrorist is found to be in the Boston bombing, whether he be singleton or a groupie enamored of a philosophy that doesn't like American freedoms and symbols, our left leaning media and politicians seem bent on finding blame not among their own policies of down playing the seriousness of international terrorism, but on the right. After all, even the word had been struck from the official vocabulary, but there it was-- the deed. 

Has the Tea Party caused mob disruptions like the Occupiers the media excused for every indecency and burned building?

Have abortion protestors caused the mayhem, disease and death perpetrated by abortionist Dr. Gosnell? 

Who has been in the streets marching against taxes on April 15?  I haven’t heard of a single story. Stories of Obama’s 18% tax rate, yes, I did hear that.

Were the first responders not quick enough that we should think higher taxes would have prevented this? 

Barney Frank, political hack,  and political strategist David Axelrod seem to be really messed up. They admitted they knew nothing, but shifted blame anyway.

Humor in headlines: Family held captive. . .

There’s a story in the Washington Post about a “Loudoun family held captive in home-invasion robbery.”  A reader suggests a better story line and says he’s unemployed and looking for a job—and could do a better job.  Personally, I always thought “home-invasion” was over kill for break-in.  And why are we left to speculate about the weapon?   “. . . used a weapon to hold the family against their will, authorities said.”  Was it a gun?  A pressure cooker?  A box cutter?

Obama and the polls

President Obama bases his gun control efforts on poll results that claim we the people want more restrictions on access to guns (he doesn't like the Constitution, especially those pesky amendments).

When has he ever listened to what we the people want about lower taxes, fewer regulations killing the economy, his take over of the health care industry, his drones killing innocent civilians, his reluctance for a thorough Benghazi investigation, or even something as simple as sending a high ranking official to Margaret Thatcher's funeral? He manipulates the wording of the gun polls to suit his campaign to win back the House for Democrats

President Obama claims that polls show the overwhelming majority of Americans want to make it tougher for criminals and the mentally ill to own guns. Then he proposes legislation that will restrict only non-criminals and non-mentally ill.  At least, my definition of a criminal is someone who doesn’t obey the laws.

An insult to our ally, Great Britain

When John Atta Mills, the President of Ghana, died last year, then Secretary of State Hillary Clinton personally led the delegation to his funeral. But everyone knows Ghana is more important to our history and alliances than Great Britain. Obama can't pull anyone away from this gun control efforts, so everyone is too busy to honor Margaret Thatcher. Of course, that's bogus. He believes the free market and capitalism isn't important, and that is what she represents, so he won't honor her.

Democrats will probably be happy this story of bugging will be bumped by the bombing tragedy in Boston. Democrats bugging Republican Mitch McConnell office. Where are the Watergate investigators when you need them? Well, they were Democrats.

Just for "fun" I decided to read through the privacy rights I was giving away in order to complete a store survey (in order to enter a sweepstakes). I had to click through a number of hot links to even get to this level. Reminds me very much of HIPAA, which by the time you read through all the ways your privacy is protected, everyone except possibly the janitorial service has access to your medical records.

“START’s Global Terrorism Database (GTD) records 16 terrorist attacks that have occurred in Boston since 1970, but only three since 1990. The most recent recorded terrorist attack occurred in November 1995 when an explosion occurred at the Boston-based headquarters of the Christian Science community. This 1995 bombing caused no fatalities.

According to the GTD, Boston has been the 14^th most frequently targeted U.S. city by terrorists in the past 40+ years. Houston, Texas, has similarly experienced 16 attacks during this period. New York (430 attacks) is by far the most frequently targeted U.S. city, with Los Angeles (103 attacks) the second most common target.

The majority of Boston’s terrorist activity occurred in the 1970s, with Black nationalists responsible for five of the 12 attacks during that decade. Violent White supremacists and violent far-leftists were also active in Boston during this time.

There have been two fatal terrorist attacks in Boston since 1970, both classified as assassinations: In 1992, Iwao Matsuda—the president of a Japanese university—was assassinated in his hotel during a visit to Boston; in 1995, Paul McLaughlin—a prosecutor specializing in gang-related cases—was shot in his car in a parking lot in the city. “
