1594 Blogs redistribute power?
That's what this librarian thinks. Here's a paraphrase of a presentation by Danah Boyd (I have no idea who this is) at LITA (Library and Information Technology Association) on October 1. And Michael Gorman is still out to lunch at lunch and doesn't like Google. I saw this item at www.LisNews.com.I'm a blogger. I don't feel terribly powerful. Do you?

I would say the Internet redistributes power, blogs for the most part have little intellectual content. OK -- not this blog :), but seriously, most blogs are just nothing.
I look at blogs and bloggers as the pamphleteers of old, a soap box where you get to talk, no one has to listen. The collaborative power magnifys the reasoning that can be applied to real problems, but often is not used. Possibly as the medium matures, more will see the value of combining to solve problems.
The threat to libraries comes from when books go on line. Then power will go to those that know how to wield the keyboard. Sadly, I find myself longing for a book, but the search function is limited when you just want information.
I just wrote about this presentation by danah in my blog today. Interesting reading. I have to agree with Bill that most blogs are of no interest but to friends of, say, the teenage bloggers themselves, but there are a few really interesting and thought-provoking blogs out there.
