Clunker cars

Do you suppose this Bentley loves Obama gets 18 mpg? Could the owner qualify for a tax break from me who drives a 2002 Dodge Van that gets 26 mpg on the road, is a real workhorse, and doesn't hurt my back? (As near as I can tell from the model, this one gets about 10 in the city, 17 on the road).

Murray sez:
There was a story in this morning's Rockford Register Star about a woman with a 2001 Dodge Caravan getting $4,500 under the cash for clunkers program. The car really wasn't a clunker as it only had 54,000 miles on it. So now this car will have to be destroyed according to the plan. What a waste both in product and taxpayer dollars. Just wait, they have wasted 1 billion taxpayer dollars less than a week on this plan. This is one program that promises to be riddled with fraud. But do our legislators care. ( Unless of course you believe there is complete honesty in the car dealing trade) Why... before they even know how it's working or about any fraud taking place, they voted to feed it another 2 billion! They claim it's successful just because the 1 billion dollars is gone so fast!
The woman said " this is a great program. Usually they help the poor or the rich but this was for the middle class". Gee I guess she doesn't know who's going to pay for it.

And it's dumping more people into debt since the new cars won't be paid for in cash. It's impoverishing the poor even more, because they were the ones driving the beater cars to work--they don't take the leisure drives on the super highways. It's destroying many small businesses that repaired or restored old cars. It's like burning corn in the gas tank of 2 years ago and starting a world food shortage of rice and food riots. Congress never looks ahead. All the Obama make work, bail out, turn green, and eat less programs will impact the poor the most.
