Thursday Thirteen

Exercise was another Thursday 13 topic I mentioned 2 weeks ago, so I think I can get 7 exercises and 6 excuses. First of all, my promise to myself is to get 30 minutes of exercise a day so that when we go to Helsinki and St. Petersburg this summer (3 months from now) I'll be in good shape to walk. I'll try to sneak work this in to my regular routine. It goes without saying that one of the exericses will be pushing myself away from the table and by-passing the free snacks at Panera's. Because eating less and moving more ALWAYS works. If you don't believe me, try it with your dog or cat.

1. Take the stairs every chance I get. This means instead of loading up my arms or stacking things on the bottom step for the next trip up (or down), I'll make as many trips as possible when I do the laundry. No more sheets, pillowcases and towels in one load. I'll make three trips.

2. Park as far away from the store, restaurant or coffee shop as possible (if the weather is good) and carry an umbrella (because it will be different when I return to the car).

3. Do some stretching while dressing, even if I don't want to look in the mirror. Stretch before checking the e-mail or blogging. Stretch before going upstairs. (Do you see a pattern?)

4. Do 5 sit ups for each blog entry I published yesterday to compensate for all that sedentary effort. So far today I owe myself 10 situps for Wednesday.

5. Walk at the park (a 3 minute drive) instead of outside our home, so I can't come inside after 8 minutes. Stomach in, shoulders back, long strides. Look sharp! Hup. Hup.

6. When I deliver the mail on Thursdays (for the church), walk around the parking lot of both locations for 5 minutes.

7. Watch a few minutes each day of a cable TV exercise program (or a DVD).

Then, the excuses I'll be using are:

8. Later. I'm in the middle of something.

9. I'm sleepy. Maybe after my nap.

10. My leg(s) (feet) (hip) hurt(s).

11. It's raining, (too hot) (too windy) (too cold).

12. The batteries are low (in my Walkman).

13. I hate these shoes (jeans) (sweats).

You're going to St. Petersburg? I'm jealous. :)

Exercise is just one of those things you have to make yourself do. I hate every last minute of it, but the alternative is not an option.

Ugh, I have to force myself to exercise too. It's SO hard, and there is always something else calling to me.

I sure wish I could commit myself to 30 minutes of excercise a day!

Great list. And greater excuses. I try to walk to work at least three times a week. It's 30 minutes each way, if I walk fast. And I start the day feeling great.

I need to try #4. I think I've gained a good 10 pounds since I started blogging.
I hope you have a blessed and wonderful Easter.

The tired excuses is always mine. But, it looks as if you've figured out all the secret keys to success.

My TT are up too. Happy Thursday!

Good for you at trying to be more active. I just started doing some walking and joined a 10,000 steps program. I also have a good walking partner at work, so she doesn't let me slide!

My TT is up. ^_^

Funny. I've used all those excuses NOT to exercise, but haven't tried a lot of the exercises you mentioned.

I've got to get in gear!!!

Ooooh... I could have come up with 13 excuses much more quickly than 13 exercises. ;)

common sense... you got it down! I like the excuses too though - how about this one, "oh! I forgot to exersize today!"

Yeah, we're going on a hol soon and are walking and cycling some to try to ready our bodies a bit.

Good luck! I am having knee replacement at the end of May (on one knee) and I hope to at least be able to walk a little more comfortably!

Now that the weather is nicer, I am inspired to begin walking - at least it's a start :)

Ohhhhh yea! In addition to my daily pedaling I have added in going up and down the steps as many times as possible! I now go UP to use the bathroom if I'm down -- and down to use it if I'm up! Craziness I tell ya! And
ALL your excuses sound good to me -- #10 is my personal favorite though! Something always hurts! :)

My list is up.

Your excuses really cracked me up!! I'm sure your trip will be a great motivator though and you'll be successful!

I liked your excuses! Sounds like me.......

I'm afraid if I did this one I'd end up with too many excuses and not enough exercises!

lol at the excuses, I know all of those too well. In fact I had the "too windy" excuse today. Worst of all I knew it was an excuse and the reason was I really just couldn't be bothered. I can almost hear my fatty tissues singing.. 'we won we won lalalaaaaa...'

LOL (Tomorrow I HAVE to exercise) :)

I'm big on taking the stairs but here at work they are alarmed, so I have to take the elevator unless it's an emergency.

Very cute, I think that you covered all of my excuses very very well. But I liked the idea about doing sit ups/ push ups after each blog entry. I should employ that for after every comment I make on other peoples blogs.

Your excuses for not exercising sound a lot like mine. hehehe

When I saw your topic, I wasn't going to read it as I didn't want to know about the exercise and I have enough excuses of my own.

But they all make sense - though, thankfully, I don't have stairs in my house - and the excuses are as flimsy as all excuses are.

Really good TT.

Mine are up.

Hi Norma
I keep telling myself to get up and do these exercises, but then I am a mistress of bad excuses. I get tired just thinking about it, but I DO ride my bike - so that's always something!
happy thursday

ah, I like one of your excuses...in fact it is my favorite.

"I's sleepy, Maybe after my nap"

I hope that you did better than I at exersizing

Norma, and here I thought you were a nice lady. But to try out the less food and more activity theory on our poor unsuspecting dogs and cats???? That's just cruelty to animals. Really. Ok, I need to go find some ice cream now! Yum. Maybe I'll skim through the Weight Watchers slow cooker recipe book I got from the library today while I eat cookie dough chunks directly from the carton...

Great suggestion to stay in shape :). I miss walking everywhere - like I did in Germany.
Thank you for visiting my T13. Have a blessed Easter

Wow Norma. Thank you for coming up with this list. I've always had problems following a schedule for exercises. These will probably help me lose weight :)

My favorite excuse is "I'm hungry"...lol!

That's a great list Norma. I can definately relate.
