1162 Teaching English ain't easy

Nathan Bierma loves the English language, but he has discovered that teaching grammar is different than using it professionally. Here's his English 101 story from the Chicago Trib. I occasionally try reading the blogs of college young people and have definitely experienced his #1, #2, and #4.

Hi Norma! Good post. Great blog. I always enjoy visiting! You don't know me but I tagged you. Re: Important Books at my page. You know the game, list and answer the questions on your page and tag 5 others. I thought your answers would be especially interesting since you have worked with so many books. Besides you are a lovely lady with interesting insights. Thanks for sharing.

Who knew, aside from thou, of course, that book title weren't to be punctuated as appositives?

Also, would you have wrapped "of course," (above) in commas? Ordinarily, I wouldn't bother.

People really get crazy about commas. And frankly, I'd never heard of an appositive. I think they've changed the name of everything since I was in school.
