3300 Hannah Montana

Until I read someone's Thursday Thirteen yesterday whose daughter wanted a Hannah Montana (doll?) I'd never heard of this Disney character. Sort of out of my range of interests. But today the WSJ mentioned that the album for this 14 year old sold 1.6 million copies in 2 months. It is marketed to 8-12 year olds.
The Disney plot: a young teen moves from Tennessee to Malibu and moonlights as a rock star (undercover, I think) managed by her dad. In real life Miley Cyrus, who plays Hannah, and her TV dad, Billy Ray Cyrus, are in fact, father and daughter. Why would any dad in his right mind want his 14 year old dressing like a hooker--and encouraging your 8 year old to want those clothes?

I'd say I'm glad I have boys, but these are the kind of girls that they'll be bringing home. Not an outfit appropriate for a 14 year old. And this is what's on DISNEY, you should see what's on the rest of the "childrens programming".

I agree. When I heard the name "Hannah Montana" the first thing that popped into my mind was that the name sounds like a you know what kind of star. Noggin in the evening is even worse. I watch Noggin during the day with my kids because of the awesome programming like Blue's Clues but I usually have to turn it after the preschool programming ends.

I find it sad that you can publicly compare this teen to a hooker, yet I bet you don't realize that her faith is strong, and the reason she works in Hollywood is because there is such a big Christian movement now, to nurture young people with talents. Shame on us adults who tear down these people by name in a public forum, yet would cringe if anyone were to say the same about our kids. The same goes for Britney. Yes, she has been a disappointment, but wouldn't it be more constructive to pray that she would return to her faith roots and turn away from the mess she has allowed into her life? How dare we cast stones, when any one of us could take a detour ourselves.
It's sad. I would much rather think that someone--even a stranger--was out there praying for my loved one than publicly adding to the problem!

It's too bad you would call someone a hooker. Focus on the Family did a great review on this show. You are an uneducated, opinionated women and if you are a child of God, you would not call a 14 year old a hooker
Here is the link to Focus on the Family. Glad you are not my mother!

You guys are being ridiculous.
Since when was it up to you to judge another child of God.
You should be helping her in ANY way possible and that doesn't include saying such negative things about her.
Maybe you ladies are too old to remember but as you grow out of your childhood into the real world it's hard NOT to get influenced. Nobody is perfect.
Stop talking like you could do any better because you don't know what it's like to live a life for God without being effected by the life of Hollywood.
You call yourselves Christians and yet you're judging someone's parenting and their child.
Well, i say GROW UP.
You don't even know what the Cyrus family may have gone through in life. Don't judge when you don't even know them. I'm not sure if you knew but both the father and the daughter are strong believers of Christ.

I'm pretty sure you wouldn't want anyone saying your daughter is a hooker. Especially when it's hard to fulfill God's purpose and shine His light onto the crazy life in Hollywood. They're trying, and most importantly, they have faith. I bet if you were famous and trying to do that, you would get upset if you heard someone called your daughter a hooker. Love EVERYONE.

1"Do not judge, or you too will be judged. 2For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.

3"Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother's eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? 4How can you say to your brother, 'Let me take the speck out of your eye,' when all the time there is a plank in your own eye?

Matthew 7:1-4

So instead of saying things about other people who you don't even know, i suggest you pray for them.

First of all...Norma didn't say Cyrus was a hooker. She said: "Why would any dad in his right mind want his 14 year old dressing like a hooker--and encouraging your 8 year old to want those clothes?" And that's right on. Christian brothers and sisters had better start speaking the truth and stop being so politically correct. Read what Paul said in his letters to sinful believers, he called sin what it is, SIN. Stop defending shallow, worldy Christianity and start speaking the truth people. Now if you want to get ruffled read my blog on GUITAR HERO at craiggleasonDOTcom

Hannah Montana is deserving of her fame and good fortune. STOP... CEASE AND DISIST with your negativity and labeling.

Her music is inspirational, and uplifting...

SILLY MORTALS! defining the divine soul of a child and by her vestige

CPA: I didn't say anything negative about Miley. I questioned why her father is encouraging 8 year olds to look and dress like her.

If by vestige (small trace) you mean vestment (outer garment or clothing), yes, her father is allowing her clothing to define her. I'm not making those decisions. But I do admit to being mortal, and looking forward to the day of the resurrection and a new, immortal body.

Wayne Dyer, who apparently never met anyone in the entertainment world or their fans, also said, "People who want the most approval get the least and people who need approval the least get the most." In fact, he said a lot of things that aren't true.

Folks, it's not judging to pay attention to the fact that something targeted to young girls is inappropriate. Don't forget, someone is trying to sell this to your kids. To point out what's wrong is not judgmental or unChristian in the slightest.

Sometimes, things are wrong. That's not the actor's fault; it's the fault of the people who are selling wrong ideas to our kids and using her to do it.

Of course, we ought to hold up a kid like Miley in prayer, because this lifestyle isn't good for her either - but at the same time, our family will be boycotting this product. Listen to the songs: do we really need to encourage 8 and 9 year old girls to swoon for boys, etc?
