Lethal Connections: “Complete Lives” Morphs into “COVID Protocol” in America’s Hospitals

In a shocking departure from traditional hospital policies, a hospital admission has become like reporting to prison. Prisoners in America’s jails have more visitation rights than do COVID patients in America’s hospitals.

One family member, a professional psychologist with a career focus treating victims of trauma, said that in many hospitals COVID patients are treated “little better than animals.”

Shocking recordings of Mayo Clinic-Scottsdale and Banner Health System hospital executives have been released by an attorney on the Legal Advisory Council of Truth for Health Foundation, an Arizona public charity. Executives were discussing coordinated efforts to restrict fluids and nutrition for hospitalized COVID patients and to suppress all visitations for COVID patients.

The COVID protocol that hospital physicians must follow, in lockstep across the U.S., appears to be the implementation of the 2009-2010 “Complete Lives System” developed by Dr. Ezekiel Emanuel for rationing medical care for people older than 50.

Dr. “Zeke” Emanuel, who was the Senior White House Health Policy Advisor to President Obama and has been advising President Joe Biden about COVID-19, stated in his classic 2009 Lancet paper: “When implemented, the complete lives system produces a priority curve on which individuals aged between roughly 15 and 40 years get the most substantial chance, whereas the youngest and oldest people get chances that are attenuated.”

“Attenuated” means rationed, restricted, or denied medical care that commonly leads to premature death.

In 2021, whistleblower doctors, nurses, attorneys, patient advocates, and journalists have exposed egregious hospital abuses, neglect of patients, denial of vital intravenous fluids and basic medicines to hospitalized COVID patients across the U.S.

The Complete Lives Protocol apparently derives from the 1990s UK National Health Service “Liverpool Pathway,” which in effect constituted euthanasia.

Now we see its malevolent manifestation in the “COVID Protocol.” Age-based rationing is happening every day on COVID units of our hospitals, since the overwhelming majority of COVID patients are older than 50, the age at which Emanuel claims that a life is “complete” and not worth the use of medical resources.

"Complete Lives System" and the "COVID Protocol" are pathways leading to suffering and premature death, mainly of older Americans. They achieve the government's goal of reducing Medicare costs. At the same time, hospitals make untold extra millions with extra incentive payments for COVID patients during their tortured path to death, while they are chemically and physically restrained and isolated from families, pastors, priests, and rabbis.

The heartbreaking story of Veronica Wolski, a well-known Chicago Freedom advocate, was widely publicized. Once hospitalized in ironically named Resurrection Hospital, Veronica was given remdesivir, which she had repeatedly refused, denied proper basic medical care that could have been life-saving, and was not allowed access to her family, priest, or healthcare power of attorney. The hospital blocked Veronica leaving the hospital when she and her attorneys demanded release. Her healthcare power of attorney was removed by hospital security. Veronica died alone as a medical prisoner in a Catholic hospital denied even a priest at the end of her life.

Unconscionable hospital violations of human rights, including even violations of the Geneva Convention codes established following World War II to prevent abuses of prisoners, are occurring daily across the U.S.

 
Patients are coerced to take rapidly approved drugs like Remdesivir, in spite of known risks of kidney and liver failure, and to be placed on ventilators, both of which bring in incentive payments and create huge profits for hospitals.

 
Patients are denied adequate fluids and nutrition, as well as vitamins, inhaled and intravenous corticosteroids, antibiotics, antivirals, and adequate doses of “blood-thinners” (anticoagulants).
Patients suffer inhumane isolation with use of chemical and physical restraints, in violation of existing guidelines for patient protection.

 
Hospitals are using law enforcement to deny access to hospital grounds for family and advocates.

Patients and their advocates have been denied information on benefits of early treatments and denied access to such treatment. Autopsies have confirmed many patients died because of inadequate doses of standard anticoagulation, even after family members went to court to demand therapeutic doses to help save lives.

Doctors and nurses risk their careers, their licenses, livelihoods, and even their lives as they courageously speak out to inform their patients and the public with life-saving information. One ICU physician colleague posted this on social media recently

"Just finished a 10-night stretch in the ICU. Patient bashing and blatant meanness have taken on a whole new level within our healthcare colleagues. How can we NOT spiral downwards towards despair when this behavior is allowed and is being normalized?? …I feel I’ve been thrown into a Mean Girls sequel. Making fun of patients and families for not being V’d is the cool thing now. . . . I don’t mind taking care of COVID patients. But this hateful vibe that has permeated my world is what’s going to end my career if it doesn’t end.”

Welcome to the brave new world of government-directed medical care carried out by obedient, profit-focused hospital executives eager for the government handouts of incentive payments for following the “COVID Protocol.”

Decriminalizing shoplifting has hurt black communities and store owners, says Jason Riley in Wall Street Journal, Oct. 19. Walgreens has closed 22 stores in San Francisco where thefts under $950 are effectively decriminalized.

Using Target as another example, Mr. Riley notes the closure in recent years of Target stores in predominantly black sections of Chicago, Milwaukee, and Flint, Mich. in the wake of not only increased store thefts but also rioting, looting, and violent anti-police protests.

"If you are middle class and the nearest big-box store closes, you simply drive to a different one or its equivalent. But if you are a poor single mom without a car, your options are limited. You’ve just lost access, perhaps, to the closest, cheapest and widest variety of fresh produce, medicines and other goods. Mr. Riley says, "The fallout from antipolice protests in recent years has been all too predictable, as has the left’s response to it. How are our Democrats/socialists/progressives helping black communities? After destroying businesses with invitations to steal, they blame the investors and profit motive, and call the lack of retain or big box stores "systemic racism." Do all Democrats work for free? Why we shouldn't use the China model

NSBA apologizes for its letter to Biden

The National School Board Association has apologized to its members (local school boards) for the mess it made of things by asking the "Biden administration to investigate whether alleged threats against school-board members constituted domestic terrorism."  There's still a lot they could have said, for instance, the provided no evidence and the letter seems to say, we used the wrong words to start this fire storm.  All sides in this controversy over the rights of parents, the secrecy and smugness of officials, and  appropriate venues for protest could stop using the Twitterverse as their source of information.  If there are threats against anyone (like having the FBI turn up and watch at a protest of 25 parents is seen as a threat by parents) then that's a matter for the local authorities--you don't need to go to the federal government for that!

Confession of the non-busy

In January 2018, one of our pastors preached on a topic that included use of time.  After the service, I told him I was probably the only person he knew who says, "I'm never busy." I almost never have too much to do. So I offered to write him a note about it. Today I found the note, but I'm not sure I ever gave it to him, and I don't know if I ever entered it here as a blog. After 18 years and my sloppy way of adding tags/subject headings I often can't find what I wrote even a few months ago.

"Here it is; the confession of a non-busy church goer. My husband says that isn’t true, but let me explain.

I’m efficient and reasonably neat, I’m a modest cook, and I don’t obsess much over details. I keep up with laundry, but don’t do a lot of cleaning. The bed is made as soon as I get up, dishes can wait a bit. I’m careful with money, tithe my income, invest wisely, and have no debt. We’ve never had a credit card balance—ever. We paid off our home mortgage in our 40s, and never had a college loan. That’s not being so smart—it’s mainly because we were born in 1938 and 1939 to parents who had been through the Depression.

When we were younger, we (mostly my husband) did do home maintenance like painting and repairs, now we hire that, and it’s more efficient and safer. I did wallpaper a bedroom once, and I think in the 1960s-1970s I might have made curtains. When our children were at home 1967-1987 I did things I don’t do today—like sewing, driving car pools, Campfire Girls leader, choir mother, but usually pretty short term, like BVS, or volunteering at their school. I didn’t push the kids to be joiners, but that was a losing battle, because if I didn’t enroll them in sports or after school activities they had no one to play with because all their friends were doing something away from our neighborhood. Still I had limits—mainly because I didn’t want all my time tied up. Some mommy stuff I did to actually keep busy—to feel a part of things, which I think you addressed this morning.

The modern women’s movement really took off in the early 70s and there was a lot of pressure on women to bring in a second income. I crunched some numbers and figured out it didn’t pay, but did return to work part time (no summers) when the kids were about 3rd-4th grade. But keep in mind, our Upper Arlington middle class life style in the 70s would be poverty today—one TV, one car, no AC, rarely eating out, no phone contracts or cable bills (our cable bill is higher than our mortgage was when we had one—not adjusted for inflation), etc.

When I was working (as an academic librarian, veterinary medicine, Agriculture, Latin American studies, Russian language studies from 1966-2000 with time out from 1968-1978 for children, etc.) I avoided joining committees. However, it was required for my promotion and tenure to Associate Professor, so I didn’t volunteer much for task forces, or ad hoc stuff. Committees are time eaters and empire builders for the chair, whether at work, in organizations or at church. I was busy one year—the budget had been cut and I lost some employees and had to do their work, but it only lasted about 4 months. I was blessed with some great assistants. Before my annual review I would put a box under my desk and put everything from the top of the desk in it so the office would look good when my boss visited. 6 weeks later I’d go through it, and most stuff could be tossed. I still do that occasionally because my desk at home gets messy.

I believe people are busy to feel a need. God made us to be creative, be in relationship with Him, and after the Fall, to work. Our modern life is really pretty easy, but it’s sedentary. I think I read recently that because of our lifestyle and life span, the average adult American has about 40 years of leisure counting week-ends, holidays, and retirement.

But the key is pressure. I just hate feeling pressured, and it doesn’t matter if it’s internal or external. As I’ve aged and my memory isn’t what it once was, I’ve had to start making lists, something I resisted for years. I feel pressured with a list waiting for me. But. That energizes many people. They need something pushing, nagging, chastising them for not doing better, not doing more, not being more efficient. They thrill at making a line though something on the list. That just doesn’t work for me—makes me feel rebellious and anxious, like a failure. I try not to schedule more than one thing a day—can’t always avoid it—like maybe a medical appointment and lunch with friends may fall on the same day. I try to consciously schedule something social, because I know it’s good for me, like exercise.

I know people who say to me, “You blog? (or you paint? Or you have time to read?) I just don’t have time to do that.” And my response is, “I don’t have time to play tennis or golf.” (I hate competitive sports and am no good at it, never have been.) People are as busy as they want to be, and everyone uses time differently. I’m retired. If time is money, I’m a millionaire. Every verb we use with money we use with time. Spend it; invest it; use it; waste it; etc."

If I wrote more, I haven't found it.  If I've posted this before, I also haven't found it!

Darlene's prayer for the Border Control

Heavenly Father, We thank you for the border patrol and their passion to keep us safe. But we wrestle not against flesh and blood but against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realm. Lord we pray that each member of the border patrol know YOU and that every day they put on the full armor of God . We pray that wisdom for them right now.

We thank you for the fact that they were able arrest more lawless people but Lord we know they are probably tired so we ask your anointing for supernatural energy be on them. Some are at home with families. May they know your rest. May they enjoy their families and not take the job home with them.

We also praise you for the arrests, but ask for all the guilty perpetrators to be convicted and put in prison not released like some from the left are requesting continuously. Father we pray for the  lawless that they, too would come to the full knowledge of God. That they would have encounters and come to know you.

We praise you for these mighty men and women securing our borders. We pray for revelations and encounters for them also that they would know YOU ARE WITH THEM. Just like Elisha and his servant . . . may they see who is with them ( 2 Kings 6:16) So he asked Elisha, “Oh, my master, what are we to do?” 16“Do not be afraid,” Elisha answered, “for those who are with us are more than those who are with them.” 17Then Elisha prayed, “O LORD, please open his eyes that he may see.” And the LORD opened the eyes of the young man, and he saw that the hills were full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha.…

I'm so old I remember when Democrats cared about the country. We don't/ can't have a country without borders.

In 2005, Senator Barack Obama said, "We simply cannot allow people to pour into the United States undetected, undocumented, unchecked and circumventing the line of people who are waiting patiently, diligently, and lawfully to become immigrants in this country."

In 2006, Senator Barack Obama said, “Those who enter our country illegally, and those who employ them, disrespect the rule of law. And because we live in an age where terrorists are challenging our borders, we simply cannot allow people to pour into the United States undetected, undocumented, and unchecked. Americans are right to demand better border security and better enforcement of the immigration laws,”

 
In 2006, Senator Joe Biden said, "Let me tell you something, folks, people are driving across that border with tons, tons--hear me, tons--of everything from byproducts from methamphetamine to cocaine to heroin, and it's all coming up through corrupt Mexico."

The mis-named Women's Health Protection Act of 2021

This is the Leftists' reaction to the Texas Heartbeat Law. If enacted, the Women’s Health Protection Act would endanger essentially all state-level abortion restrictions, existing state and federal conscience protection laws, and various provisions limiting taxpayer funding for abortions.

H.R.3755 - Women's Health Protection Act of 2021--The most anti-life, anti-woman piece of legislation ever proposed by loyal, devoted Catholic Speaker Pelosi. It uses every intersectional and CRT term you can imagine. It lies about Black women, who bear the brunt of abortions. This Act which has "women" in the title, uses "person" more often in the language than women. Since only women have babies, it ought to be tossed just for that reason. Not once does it mention the ghoulish methods used to kill late term babies or the selling of their body parts.

"To protect a person’s ability to determine whether to continue or end a pregnancy,"

"for the preservation of the life or health of the person who is pregnant."

"Nothing in this Act shall be construed to authorize any government to interfere with a person’s ability to terminate a pregnancy" [at any time for any reason, and no previous care before termination is required]

"affect a person’s constitutional right to terminate a pregnancy," [there is no such right in the Constitution]

This is NOT HEALTH. This is legalizing murder and shifting more power to the federal government than it already has.

Wake up about Woke

Even with Republican Presidents Bush and Trump, the deep state was busy sowing dissent among government employees and had been for a long time. The current unrest--rioting, destroying businesses and tearing down statues--didn't start with the death of George Floyd or the Ferguson effect. It began in the 1930s in academe and by the time the rest of us "woke" up, it had taken root in most government agencies, and blossomed into our public schools, non-profits, think tanks, and the HR departments of corporations. Even some of our churches were reaping the thistle crops.

The FBI was holding workshops on intersectionality theory as well as diversity and inclusion.

 
Former CIA boss John Brennon, who lied under oath about Trump, declared he's infused with "white guilt" for being a white male. Brennan’s plan required diversity training and included agency-wide “unconscious bias” training.

The Department of Homeland Security was telling white employees they were committing microinequities and had been socialized to be oppressors.

The Army had launched Project Inclusion and is moving to stamp out "unconscious bias" a malicious theory that white people are born with inert bias in their genetic makeup that they are unaware of.

 
The Treasury Department was requiring training sessions to tell staff members that virtually all white people contribute to racism and needed to convert to "antiracism."

Sandia National Laboratories (nuclear) sent white male executives to 3 day reeducation camps and were taught that white male culture was analogous to the KKK, white supremacists, and mass killings.

 
This is loosely known as critical race theory and burbles with words difficult to define but quick to lob a bomb such as equity, diversity, inclusion, cultural sensitivity, microaggression, and links arms with transitioning of sexes, cisgender and militant feminism.

 
The movement is moving more quickly than most Conservatives can comprehend. Bush just grinned, and Trump was slow to do anything, or maybe couldn't imagine that our freedom loving, capitalist country was eroding so quickly. And then when he did take action, was roundly criticized by the MSM and Leftist think tankers using their template--racism. But he was the first president to act against this threat. Now Biden, of course, has it in full swing again, as you can see from his disastrous Afghanistan move with the weak generals.

Wake up, don't be forced to accept woke lies. Vote even in the lower level campaigns that you would usually ignore--city council, school board, judges, school and library bond issue. Remember, non-citizens are allowed to vote in some states in local elections. Who brings them in? Democrats. Write or protest to your representatives. Support the writers and speakers and pastors who are knowledgeable. Talk to your friends and neighbors. Speak up. Workers who are paid not to work--a Biden disaster

Some of you think those economy crippling benefits have stopped. They haven't. If your favorite restaurant closes or shop owner locks the door, it may not be supply chain. It's no one will work when being paid to stay home.

Even before the Covid-induced recession struck, public policy in America had been increasingly discouraging work through expanded and more generous disability payments, longer bouts of enhanced, less restrictive unemployment benefits, and more generous social-welfare payments. Recently I heard a speaker say just toss out diversity and inclusion, and go straight for equity. The speaker was white, so did she mean to be diverse or inclusive, whites might be on the roster? I think the words diversity and inclusion will gradually go the way of "multiculturalism" and "non-discrimination."
Equity is not a Biblical value, but a political tool, although some Christians are trying to climb on that band wagon by cherry picking Bible verses. Although they say otherwise, Christians love being in the "world." In fact, what equity means in real life, in real workplaces, in real award shows or real institutions when codified or regulated is

October 14, 1066, the Battle of Hastings

The Battle of Hastings was fought on 14 October 1066 between the Norman-French army of William, the Duke of Normandy, and an English army under the Anglo-Saxon King Harold Godwinson, beginning the Norman conquest of England. I only mention it because as I figure the names in our genealogy both the Corbett surname and the Bruce surname came from France, and I think maybe our forefathers made the trip to England and then a few centuries later to Ireland and Scotland.

How the media are handling the Loudoun County, Virginia story

Admittedly, I haven't done a thorough deep dive in the archives on whether CNN, MSNBC, NYT, and WaPo have covered the rape and sodomizing of a female student by a boy in a skirt at a Loudoun Co., Virginia school bathroom. That boy was transferred to another school where it's been reported (also by non MSM sources) he did it again to another girl. It has been covered by Fox and Newsmax who apparently thought that the previous spin on this story which was everywhere on the MSM was newsworthy. If you watch CNN, have you seen the coverage of the father who was arrested for speaking out at a school board meeting? That video went viral. Have you seen the current information now available on why he spoke at the meeting? (The school was covering up the rape because of the transgenda bathroom policy.)

In 2005 a Columbus school principal was fired and 3 assistants put on leave for covering up the rape of a disabled girl in her school and not calling the police, but handling it in house. In the Virginia case, the police have the record of the assault, but the school denied it happened. In 15 years the intersectionality pendulum has really swung back at the expense of the children.

Fox has a much bigger audience than CNN and MSNBC, so let's hope someone in the Northeast or the DC bubble has seen it, as well as our school board in Upper Arlington which is making a big mess of the bathroom issue. We've had a huge "Keeping up with the other Suburbs" building expansion here with our taxes soaring.

Also, there is an election going on in VA and this is one of the issues. It seems the Democrat has said parents should stop telling teachers how to do their jobs. VA is part of DC. Glenn Youngkin (R) and Terry McAuliffe (D). I just looked at MSN News and the reporter is spewing the usual--white parents, right wing media yada yada--but says nothing about the rape in a bathroom charges by the father and why he was protesting at that meeting in June. You can lie without saying anything!

Occasionally I look at a pound sign (particular topic) on Facebook. Checking #southwest I found many enlightening posts, but noticed this one particularly:

Although I'm sure there are less expensive ways to solve the menstrual problems of young women, it is a problem. I remember a decade ago talking to a female Columbus teacher who told me about how often she had to come to the rescue of a student, and particularly low income students, or girls who don't have good parents who look out for them. I was shocked.

 
So California's new law isn't a joke, it isn't a left wing plot. Many rest rooms for women supply these products free. I'm sure some abuse this and think they'll take a bunch home, but it's a God-send for many. And for a student who is already between a C and a D, it could mean staying in school.

Why was there no transportation crisis or cargo ships waiting for weeks to unload because there are no workers when Trump was in office in 2020 in the middle of the pandemic? Because his administration moved quickly and anticipated the problems that could result from questioning and accusing a behemoth like China. Because Trump was a businessman and Biden is a bureaucrat who has never worked a day in his life. Biden colluded with China, created inflation, imported illegals to take American jobs, and paid American workers to stay home to bankrupt small businesses so giants like Big Tech, Big Pharma, Big Ag can destroy our capitalist economy. "The announcements on Spirit Airlines today got me like...really?! You almost can't help but laugh and roll your eyes--and take notes!

Some of the announcements today:

1) During the usual safety instructions at the start of the flight:
"If we lose cabin pressure, oxygen masks will drop from the ceiling. You will need to remove your face mask before putting on the oxygen mask."

Really, Spirit?! Who would have thought? So now, we've got to try to figure out two different kinds of masks while wrapping our brains around being on a plane falling from the sky! So do we take the face mask off the kid traveling with us before we take off our face mask, like we are told to put on our oxygen mask before putting the oxygen mask on said kid? Just wanna make sure I have the mask order of operations right. LOL!

2) "In a few minutes, we'll begin our descent into St. Louis. This is a good time to go to the restroom, blah, blah, blah--and to make sure your masks are securely covering your nose and mouth. You are required to have your mask on unless you are actively eating, drinking, or taking medication."
My question: Are there people IN actively eating, drinking, or taking medication?!

3) "We are making our final descent into St. Louis. Please be sure you remain seated for the duration of the flight, your personal item is stowed under your seat, the tray table is in an upright position, and your mask is fully covering your nose and mouth."

...because, of course, a safe landing is connected to one's face mask fully covering one's nose and mouth!

I did not support him in 2016, but he really opened our eyes (obviously not yours). Being a Trump supporter is an adult education like we've never had before. He was not indebted to either party and we really saw the fangs and claws come out when he began calling out the good old boys' club that is DC politicking. We saw the unelected bureaucrats rise up and defend their lives at the public trough. We knew the legislatures at the state and federal level had become very weak, but we really took notice on how the most insignificant judge on the lowest court could take on the president and prevent him from undoing the shady Executive Orders of the previous president.

We began to see why his slogan "Make America Great Again" was such an anathema to Democrats, increasingly controlled by its left flank. Why the red hats had to be snatched from heads, and ugly arguments started. Why the pink hats had to make women look like blood thirsty baby killers.
If you can't compare the current bumbling fool to a blustery business man that runs circles around him and see the difference, advice from an 82 year old former Democrat won't convince you.

Update by Anna: Let's add criminal justice reform, record funding for historically black colleges, and dumping NAFTA for the USMCA. The list of his accomplishments is endless, but liberals have not heard about any of them, because their preferred media sources don't report them. He probably accomplished more in 4 years and kept more of his campaign promises than any other president, and this while being attacked from all sides.

Toni Evans, Olentangy Liberty school law suit

I heard the lawyer of Toni Evans (fired from Olentangy Liberty school district) on the radio today and she's suing. He says she was fired (told to resign) for commenting to a student in April that the virus had come from China and US was getting PPE from China. Three administrators (she's suing them) said her comment was racist. Isn't it amazing how that word has become widened and bloated just since 2008? I'm not sure, but I think it was a private conversation. She's not a person with any power; she's a study hall monitor, single woman, 58 years old, 20 years employed and her dismissal will prevent her from getting another job in a school, the lawyer said. You know how they are with the "little people," let's hope they let her keep her pension.

I think it was just filed, however, when I looked online, I found she was suspended for a poster that was "anti-black" on her Facebook page. So I checked that and it was a photo of "The Squad." I'd say it's the school district that is racist if every time they see a Democrat black politician they only see the race. I've commented about The Squad many times, and it's not about their race even when they insert it.

Another employee, with a very Slavic or East European surname in that same article was also suspended for posting a photo of a transgender couple where "he" was pregnant and "she" had provided the sperm. Again, there was nothing inaccurate in the photo or information that I could see, except by positing it she was accused of being transphobic, by the standards of the school administrators. Where are they finding these laws that they are "enforcing?" Suspended for understanding biology? Do the administrators discipline employees who are Marxists or Socialists or Monarchists or Tribalists? Or just people with ordinary values and intelligence.

So I looked through a few other items about that school district (Delaware County, north of Columbus) and see it is really in to intersectionality, BLM, transgenderism, anti-racism (which is the opposite of what it sounds like), "women's health" (aka pro-abortion), congratulating their mostly white wealthy community (ca. 4% black) with virtue signaling after George Floyd's death, and obviously not for freedom of speech or diversity of thought.

I suppose it will be on the news, so follow this case. And I wouldn't move there if you are house hunting.

Big reveal for Pfizer

Two bombshells this week about Pfizer. 1) Researchers admit natural immunity is better, and 2) Yes, fetal cells were used by Pfizer and they chose not to reveal it (to better compete), and lied to the various bioethics commissions. Meanwhile, Biden is not excusing those with conscientious objections. Add this to the whistle blowers in HHS revealing heart problems and the gaslighting by the media calling millions of people paranoid conspiracy theorists, and we have a HUGE mess. And yes, it was undercover research that revealed their lies to the American public and the churches.

Remember the Henrietta Lacks story, and the Tuskegee syphillis scandal? Do our "investigative" reporters only wake up when the trust of black citizens is violated?

 
Adult stem cells and cord blood stem cells do not raise special ethical concerns and are widely used in research and clinical care. President Bush stopped new embryonic cell lines from being developed with government money (did not affect privately funded research), but Obama jump started embryonic stem cell research I think during his first week in office. A huge difference in the characters of the two presidents.

Much of the income from Planned Parenthood is from selling baby parts--hearts, livers, scalps, eyeballs, etc.--for research.

If you are on Facebook or a member of a church, you see or hear a lot of prayer requests. You might be one of great faith, little faith or no faith. You might be in a yoga pose, clutching your beads, or looking at today's request for the president.

Agnostics and atheists have studied prayer. And guess what? Prayer has been scientifically proven potent. Even I have difficulty believing the results (being a Christian I suppose I prefer my tradition to be the one that works).

 
Today I was reading Erling Olsen's book, "Meditations in the Book of Psalms," specifically Ps 86. He had a popular radio show during the Great Depression which was later turned into a book. He quoted and commented on the 1935 book, "Man, the unknown," by Dr. Alexis Carrel (still available in print and also in the Internet Archive in digital form). He says Carrel wasn't a Christian (don't know if he was of any faith family, being a scientist), but he wrote:

"Prayer should be understood, not as a mere mechanical recitation of formulas, but as a mystical elevation, an absorption of consciousness in the contemplation of a principle both permeating and transcending our world It is incomprehensible to philosophers and scientists, and inaccessible to them. But the simple seem to feel God as easily as the heat of the sun or the kindness of a friend." He goes on to say, "There is no need for the patient to pray or even to have any religious faith. It is sufficient that someone around him be in a state of prayer." He comments on the miraculous results he has seen in patients from TB to abscesses to cancer.

This reminds me of a double blind study I read back in the 80s that I've never forgotten. People of faith and unbelievers were assigned to pray a certain number of minutes a day for patients they didn't know, or even know what the problem was, or where they were. The researchers also didn't know who was matched with whom. But the patients who were prayed for had better outcomes.

So when you see or hear a frantic or sad message (or in the church bulletin) it's a comfort for the requester for you to dash off an emoji or "thinking of you" note, but also take a breath, slow down, and actually pray about the elderly parent, or accident of a friend, or a pregnancy in distress, or a financial problem. You don't have to be a believer, nor does the person in trouble. According to science.

When Mrs. Soccer Mom raises her voice because no one on the school board cares about her kid, then she's a domestic terrorist. Hillary Clinton whined and raged for 4 years after 2016--and the media gave her a pass. The J6 event has been played up as worse than the Civil War. Illustrated History of the Diocese of Columbus--today's new book purchase

 

Dear UAPL:

This is not a purchase suggestion; I'd like to donate it for circulation.  There are 9 copies in the system, none in UAPL and 5 are non-circ. I purchased it today at VOA for 90 cents.  Published in Italy in 2001, it is in prime condition with good quality paper and color photos. I'm not a Catholic, but enjoyed reading it due to the local history and excellent photos of local churches including St. Andrew, St. Timothy, St. Agatha, plus local schools like Ready and Watterson, Ohio Dominican and the Josephinum.  It also has photos of local works of art. It's not really a reference book, or even just local history (the diocese is huge and covers many communities) which is why I'd like to see it in your circulating collection. The UAPL does not have a good collection on Christian denominations, the history of Christianity or even Christian values or ideas, and I believe this would be a valuable addition to your collection.

WASHINGTON D.C. — British medical journal “The Lancet” is dealing with the ongoing controversy regarding the September 25 journal cover which labeled women as “bodies with vaginas.” People in Britain and around the world are condemning the controversial language, with one critic stating, “This framing makes it sound like a coincidence that ‘bodies with vaginas’ have been neglected by medicine, as if it were not the product of a discrimination and oppression specific to the female sex… Medical misogyny exists—and refusing to acknowledge women perpetuates it.” Another critic commented, “It’s really difficult to imagine why any medical researcher would want to submit their paper to a Lancet journal when they are happy to refer to women on their front cover with language which would be considered inappropriate even in a red-light district.”

Richard Horton, editor-in-chief at The Lancet, issued an official apology for the cover, saying that the journal accidentally “conveyed the impression that we have dehumanized and marginalized women” and that they “apologize to our readers who were offended by the cover quote and the use of those same words in the review.” Many critics are unsatisfied with this response, arguing that this choice of words promotes female erasure and bows to transgender ideology.

And today October 3 is Respect Life Sunday.  From the tiniest unborn to the oldest person in a care facility or in your own home, respect life.  You were once that little one and you will someday be frail in need of tender care.

We will soon be welcoming a great-great nephew (grandson of our niece) and would wish all children could be so celebrated.

Why 80 million Americans like Trump

I posted this a year ago, and nothing has changed, except the man in the White House is a puppet and a bumbling fool who took us all down in August over Afghanistan. We have sunk so far since January.

Others know he doesn't judge by skin color or ethnicity but looks at skill, character, and quality.

Others love that he isn't wasting our tax dollars on international agreements that never benefit the U.S.

More money for failed Head Start in the budget bill

One of the problems I see in all Biden's programs is the "no legacy" legacy of Barack Obama.  If there were ever evidence for this administration being Obama 2.0, it is the trillions now being thrown at Obama's failures in the Build Back Better spending bill.  It includes a $3 billion “tree equity” outlay for planting saplings and $25 million on “anti-discrimination and bias training” in the healthcare industry — as well as nearly $79 billion for the Internal Revenue Service to step up its enforcement of tax laws. (Don't spend more than $600 or you might get audited.)  And now this boondoggle.  The belief apparently is that it was lack of money, not lack of history, of common sense, and his own racism.

September 30 is the feast day of St. Jerome, patron saint of librarians and libraries as well as archivists, translators and encyclopedists. It is celebrated in the Catholic Church for this canonized saint and Doctor of the Church and as a day of commemoration in Lutheran churches. I was aware of this since I was a librarian, but it was not until 2009 and we were on a tour of the Holy Land that I visited his cave where it is said he translated holy scripture into the language of the people, which was then Latin. It took him 30 years. According to St. Augustine, St. Jerome had a remarkable knowledge not only of Latin and Greek, but also of Hebrew and Chaldaic, and had read almost every author. He translated the Old Testament from the Hebrew, and, at the command of Pope Damasus, the New Testament from the Greek. Besides this, he translated into Latin the writings of many learned men, and enriched Christian learning from his own pen.

 
He wrote many letters over 50 years which document the history of religious controversies and squabbles among Christians about scripture (imagine that!) and also his own sarcastic and sharp temperament.

 
And today we think we've accomplished something if we send a text or hit send on a blog or Facebook post. Even librarians, who should know better.

Our medical ethics, rules and Covid

In 1974 President Nixon signed the National Research Act which established the National Commission for the Protection of Human subjects, requiring Public Health Service to promulgate regulations for the protection of human subjects. This was necessary because until the 1970s, our government was engaged in some pretty dicey research, like experiments on living aborted humans removed from the womb by c-section, testing products and procedures on mentally challenged adults, and perhaps the most famous, the Tuskegee syphillis study on black males. But in over 40 years, we haven't moved the needle that far. Primarily, because academics and bureaucrats are so smart and devious.

I am vaccinated, and will wear a mask if the venue requires it or if there are crowds. (Even though I know the research on masks is contradictory and confusing and almost useless outside a medical setting.) That said, I believe the mandates, passports and cancel culture attacks on anyone who suggests treatments rather than vaccines is in violation of laws already on the books.

 
You see, elected Democrats (they believe stealing our rights is "progressive") and some very unethical Republicans are willing to go around all our protections, and the unelected bureaucrats (like Fauci) and lobbyists (Big Pharma, Big Tech) don't seem to be constrained by any code of ethics, laws, regulations or even common sense. And we have no way to get rid of them.

Biden's record of disaster

Earlier this year, Twitter expelled President Trump from its platform, citing the danger that he would incite violence. As Kabul fell in mid-August, Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid tweeted updates on the progress of his comrades. His account has been active without interruption since 2017. R. R. Reno, First Things, Oct. 2021.

This makes Twitter a supporter of the Taliban, and Biden a fascist. Fascism is a form of government which rules through private businesses to achieve socialist goals.

As the MSM get a bit squeamish wondering who is in charge, the real reporters like Lara Logan are taking the pulse of Afghanistan and noting the slaughter of minor tribes and an underground railroad to help those who Biden left behind that is quickly running out of food and water.

 
Bush made a terrible mistake thinking he could infuse democracy into a medieval state controlled by fundamentalist Muslim warring tribes. Obama made it worse by increasing the troops to 100,000. Trump ran on getting out, and we know from his love of country and his Christian values he would have never left Americans behind.

 
Then Biden jumps in, he creates a hasty exit, leaving a disaster not only for Americans, those Afghans who helped us, all the nations who worked with us, but also all those other vulnerable countries in the Middle East.

If there was ever a President who wanted to tear down the United States, its reputation and its values, it is Biden--or whoever is pulling the stings of the puppet government with his demented persona as spokesperson.

The Biden administration is building upon the rotten foundation of the Obama years to create some real structural deficiencies in our economy and are building in crises for the future - and there are giant corporations who have signed on to help.

Electric car mandates are an example. The auto industry is killing the internal combustion engine at the behest of government. The fossil fuel sector is being dismantled - both at the same time when electricity generation is predicted not to be able to keep up with demand. This guarantees future shortages of electricity - and likely rolling blackouts, something more common in third world countries than in a nation that has led the world for over a century.

It's not just Biden, there are many powerful forces (foreign and domestic) that have been cheering for decades for America to fail.

The next 18 months are going to be bad, I fear.

The fall can be stealthy - you may have the same job and a paycheck, but each week that pay will buy less and less (that same theft by erosion will happen to your savings). You may be able to do most of what you used to do, but over time, more will be forbidden to you.

Look, 9/11 shut down our national transportation systems. The mortgage bubble burst and collapsed our financial systems. The reaction to Covid 19 shut down our supply chains, shut down a national economy and locked us behind closed doors. Cyber attacks and ransomware are in the news weekly for shutting down hospitals, agricultural and energy transmission businesses.

Imagine all of those happening at the same time.

I get accused of being pessimistic - and that is a fair assessment, because I am - but it isn't a violent pessimism, it is more of a resignation, a "better get ready" sort.

 
Better have enough space for a garden, better have a few critical things stocked up, better know a few basic SHTF (sh*t hits the fan) skills, better be ready to protect yourself and your family and have the equipment and supplies to do it, better transfer your investments into hard assets, better know where your loved ones are and how to communicate with them when cell phones no longer work.

I wake up every morning with a burning anger toward the people who destroyed my America and stole the good life I have had from my children and their children.

But more than that, I'm like one of those movie characters that has been shifted in time. I can see the explosion about to happen but nobody can hear me yelling at them.

My Spidey Sense is tingling, telling me there is something wrong. I can't put my finger on it, but it sure feels that something wicked this way comes.

The biggest scandal in our history is their candidate and former FLOTUS. Democrats in Congress are crooks and the Republicans in Congress are enablers and wimps.

An old, old story

 Social media--e-mail and Facebook and Instagram--will never give you joy in memories 80 years later--those pixels will be long gone (unless you've printed them), and the next time I get a new computer, most of what I saved from my sister, cousin, and friends will be gone. But generations before this had the post office. I've seen the letters that my great-grandfather received from his parents in Pennsylvania after he settled in Illinois in 1848. And until recently when I repacked all my old letters, I had a birthday card from my mother written in 1995 that I would re-read. She died in 2000 so I loved looking at her handwriting.

Dear Norma--This card will probably be late for your birthday, so we can look at the date this way.  You were born several days--one or two--early.  Dr. Dumont gave me the hurry-up treatment of castor oil and something on the evening of the 19th so the baby would come quickly and allow him to go on the fishing trip scheduled for the next day.  There was no harm done and one or two minutes before midnight you were on the scene.

Of course, that quick journey  left you a most beautiful baby, not red and wrinkled.  So you became "Peachy" at a very early age and you probably would have had September 20th or 21st as a birthdate!

Who trusts government when Biden is in charge?

I was reading through the comments of yet another expert, Dr. Michael Osterholm, an epidemiologist and director of the Center for Infectious Disease Research and Policy at the University of Minnesota. Virus Expert Just Issued This "Sobering" Warning (yahoo.com)  He is baffled by 2 things--the fast increase in cases among children, and the distrust of the government mandates. I have no idea either why it is increasing among children, but have an opinion on the federal mandates.

 
During the Trump administration, the media and "experts" were insulting and lying about him, and his supporters. Trump supporters were called deplorable racists, white supremacists and stupid. That transfers to the entire country. You can't expect a complete turn around when for four years Democrats have been telling people they can NOT trust the government! The flip flopping by Dr. Fauci, who after all did advise Trump as well as Biden, has been stunning.

 
The mismanagement at the border and the disaster in Afghanistan certainly haven't caused Americans, even Democrats, to trust Joe Biden! Renaming "infrastructure" and slapping a $3.5 trillion bill (our money) to build up the Democrat party doesn't help. Saying Climate Change is the no. one problem when other things are more pressing and more difficult is also a terrible mark against federal mandates. That ill will that Democrats have seeded for years is bearing fruit, and it just may be costing lives. It's bleeding into the minds and hearts of the American people.

John Stossel features Student Sponsor Partners, or SSP, a nonprofit that helps low-income students go to Catholic schools.  Not only scholarship money, but mentorship.

Jeniffer Gutierrez, a parent in the Bronx, was ecstatic to get SSP's acceptance letter. "I cried so hard when I received that letter because I knew it was an opportunity for my son. ... High schools in the Bronx are violent. There's no discipline. There's no education."
