Monday Memories

Did I ever tell you about our slumber parties in the 50s?

I posted this photo at the class reunion blog, but thought it was sort of cute and decided to also post it here for Monday Memories.

I'm not in the photograph because I'm taking the picture with my Brownie Hawkeye, and it appears to be taken in the morning. But that's our living room on Hannah Avenue, before my Mom redecorated with new wallpaper in a gentle beige and brown stripe. She also took out the pocket doors and wall where I was standing to take the photo. It looks like we were using a card table for gifts.

There are many things here that identify this as the 50s besides the Brownie Hawkeye: pin curls tied up with a scarf around the head (no one had hair dryers); bermuda shorts with knee socks; hard sided over night cases; scarves tied under the collar of a neatly pressed white blouse; big print wall paper in the living room; book club novels in the bookcase; hair cuts by Mom; and home permanents we gave each other.

Great photo! I wish we could go back to the fifties, I love it back then when I was growing up. And I miss the things we had back then. Great memories of way back when. :)

I'm up too.

Wasn't it fun to recall your slumber party? I wonder if kids now-a-days have them still.
Mine is up too.

For a moment there, I thought I was looking at something from my own mother's carefully kept stash of family pictures.

Each item you pointed out brought back a memory too - some I'd like to forget; pin curls for one.
Mostly though, I cherish those days when only the wallpaper was bold.

Ah, so many nice old things to remind us about earlier time. That's the real history, photos!

Mine has no photo this time either, but it's still a sweet memory :-)

ahaha You called them slumber parties, we called them pyjama parties and today kids call them sleepovers!

They were lots of fun! We used to play music, play with the ouija board, board games, truth or dare and all that crazy stuff. That was in the seventies for me. You know that show "The Seventies Show"? I can really relate to that! LOL

Thanks for visiting my MM. Glad you enjoy the interstate drive to FLA too!!

Hello! I saw your comment on Chelle's page and thought I would check yours out. I love the pic; it reminds me of all the stories my grandma used to tell me about her and her friends back then.

What a GREAT photo -- and a great memory! Sleepovers have ALWAYS been fun times of staying up until the wee hours and giggling your butts off! It doesn't get ANY better than that! (matter of fact - that's what we did this past weekend too!) By the way -- I just put up my LAST installment of the fun with Floozie and Daisy! Come on back over!

Thanks for stopping by! What a great photo and a great MM!

I remember having so much fun at sleepovers when I was growing up. We were always exhausted then next day, though.

Good luck with the NaBloPoMo ~ my name still isn't on the list, but I'm sure it will make it's way there soon.
