Thursday Thirteen

Since September 25, I have not eaten the following 13 foods. Most were part of my TT list of triggers that make me hungry. The flat out toughest to resist have been #1, #5, and #9. I think I would mug someone for a bag of Fritos. We were at a buffet luncheon [buffets were on the list, but we were invited] to celebrate a wedding anniversary at the Scioto Country Club Sunday, and there was a table of desserts to die for--which included not only pecan pie (my favorite next to apple sour cream which no one but me makes), but also cheesecake, which I love. I selected instead, the pumpkin cream cheese roll. The point isn't the calories, but the trigger, and pumpkin cake doesn't stick up my tastebuds and kill my resolve, even if it is delicious.

1. Pizza, I particularly miss pepperoni with extra cheese from Rotolo's.
2. pastaoops--did have spaghetti--but not noodles or macaroni
3. Ritz crackers
4. cheddar cheese
5. pie crust or pastry, whether main dish or dessert
6. sandwich except for Friday night date Rusty Bucket's Philly Cheese, no bread or rolls
7. free sample bread and bagel snacks at Panera's
8. potato chips
9. Fritos
10. carbonated beverages (easy to give up--don't think they were on the list)
11. dip or sauce
12. gravy
13. cheesecake

I haven't had a beer either, but that's not much of a sacrifice. I've never even tasted beer. Imagine the calories I've saved for enjoying something that doesn't smell like rotting grain!

Well, I didn't have # 3, 4, 7, 9, or 13, but then I never do (well, except for the cheddar, but I haven't had any recently).

But now your list has made me hungry. That's okay, it's past lunchtime. :)

Sweet things tend to be my trigger. My basic diet is very sensible, until I get near some chocolate bisuits...........

I might try this!!

That's a great list. I NEED to give up all of those too, especially the chips and the cheese. Sounds like you've made a healthy lifestyle change. Good for you:)

Congrats to you! I have no foodie willpower whatsoever on my 'triggers'. Cheese? Pasta? Lordy, those are my 'staples'! *lol* I have practically given up a soda habit. I have it once in a while now, but no longer /want/ it, ever. If I happen to be at fast food type place I'll of course end up with a soda, but I rarely drink more than a few swallows. However, I've begun a new habit in its place recently - tea!

I gave up soft drinks too, except for once in a blue moon. I now drink diet green tea. I love that stuff.
My T13 is up, hope you will stop by.

Why is it that the JUNK that tastes best to us is the worst thing for us?

I've been on low carb for almost all of 2006. I lost some weight, but went off it at my birthday in October and last week at Thanksgiving. It's totally amazing the differences of what I crave when either cruising along on Atkins or off it and eating junk. On Atkins, I crave eggs, meat, and dark green stuff like brocolli and green beans. When I'm in the groove, I can totally walk past a table full of pastries and breads. When I'm off the diet, I crave stuff like honey buns and Fritos. I've been getting back on the diet the past three days, and today I feel much, much better.

Keep up the good work. I've learned not to be so hard on myself if I blow it, just get back to it the next day. I'm with you on the Frito's though. How can something that smells so bad taste so good? I love Frito pie; Frito's in a bowl, coupla big heaping spoons of chili, a fist full of shredded cheddar on top, and the option of adding some chopped raw onion on it. Stir and eat. It's known as the Cholesterol Special around our house.

Most of the food on your list is what I live off on. If I had to give it up I don't know what I'd eat. At least you didn't have hamburgers on there.

Great list and great will power if you can give up those foods.

Good for you for giving up your weakness foods.

I've been so bad lately and I'm not sure I could give up my favorites...like chocolate and Starbucks drinks.

Moderation is the key I suppose.

My 13 are up.

Oh, now you've gone and made me hungry! I could do with some Fritos right about now, too -- with my SIL's delicious Rotel dip. Now *that's* something I'd mug somebody for. ;)

Happy TT!

What a great idea to compile a list of triggers. I know I have a lot of them...maybe it will be my next step to get healthier.

Thanks for the idea...and happy TT!

I haven't thought of compiling a list of my food-triggers. I'll have to give that a go - though in my case I think it's a combination of food, and other behaviors that make me munch mindlessly away.

I am saving my "Foods I Haven't Eaten" for my Thursday Zero List. I am really bad. I will echo the sentiment here, I need to go back to your post on food triggers and make my own list.

Well better late than never, my Thursday Thirteen # 21 is up now. It is the Photo Church Tour Edition Stop by if you get a chance!

I take my hat off to you not eating #1, 4, 8 and 10. Im not really a junk foody person. I just like my once a week treats. And oh pecan pie I love that too. Guess I just love food

I could give up eating most of those things except for bread. I love whole wheat bread alot. I'm not mush of a soda drinker so it would be easy, I would rather have green tea with honey.I could do without cheese too. And I don't drink any alcoholic beverages any more. Gave it up for awhile now.

Mine are up too.

Rotting grain? Well, to each his own. The beer here in Bavaria is delicious, although most Americans beers are horrid.

I try not to give up any food completely, because that normally leads to cravings, at least for me. My mantra is "everything in moderation, and moderation in everything". After all, pizza and pasta can be healthy. Pizza on a whole wheat crust, with lots of veggies and part skim cheese is a great, healthy balanced meal. Same with pasta. Whole wheat pasta, with a tomato-based sauce is a very healthy meal, and a frequent meal for me, since I need my carbs to fuel my runs.

But I realize different approaches work for different people. So good luck with your continued efforts.

Have a good day. :)
